We were here on a Monday night so it wasn't crowded at all. It was about 8:30 when we got there and I didn't realize that they closed at 9. (I mistakenly thought since it was inside the casino, it would be open later.) The wait staff seemed pretty new and very unsure of what to do. My husband got a beer and I ordered an American Mule. The waitress comes back 5 minutes later to say that they don't have Tito's, would Absolut be ok and I said yes. 5 more minutes later, she comes back to say they have none of the ingredients for that drink so I order a diet coke. She says she'll take it off the bill. She is apologizing for everything and says she's stressed because she's planning a wedding and has a UTI (which is TMI IMO) and squats beside our booth is pain whenever she comes over. We both order the fish and chips. They come out relatively quick and they are fresh and hot and SO YUMMY! There was so much food that we probably could have shared. The waitress brings our check. The drink that I never got is still on it. We had to wait another 10 minutes to get a manager to remove it. She continued to talk incessantly. I realize that we came in 30 minutes before close and the food was great, I was just really put off by the actions of our waitress. Absolutely horrible! We arrived at 11am and they rudely told us they re-open at 1130am. We waited until 1130am to eat and when we arrived again we saw a sign on the door that they weren't going to open until 12p. What a disgrace that they made us wait only to open later than they should. They should have told us right away that they weren't going to open until later so we could have found another place to eat before catching our flight. What a shame ! read more

Pour-your-own beer seems to be the new fad among craft beer bars and 99 Hops House does a good job with the concept. The process is pretty simple. You walk up to the bar, place as much money as you want on a cool 99 Hops card (you can use cash or charge to transfer a balance,) then you walk over to the beer wall where there's probably 15 or 16 choices, maybe more and it includes some local brews that you can choose from. You're charged on the amount you pour. It's a cool concept. If you want to try a beer, but you're not sure if you'd like it then you can pour a small sip, just to make sure. If you know you want a certain beer then you can drink as much as you want. In addition to the beer wall, the bar has a small little booklet that lists the rest of the beers that the bar offers either through a bottle or a stiff draft pour. Unfortunately you don't get to test some out like you do through the pour-your-own beer concept however the list is pretty extensive so if you're a traveling beer connoisseur then there's a good chance you will find something you like, even if it's a bit rare. One small drawback, at least for me, is this bar is in a casino that is a bit out of the way and out toward Riverside and Parkville, which isn't a drive I make very often from central KC. I will say that if you're a beer drinking fan and you're in the area and / or wanting to gamble, this is a good place while you're in between games or relaxing. Bottom's up. read more

All hail the beer wall! And wasabi deviled eggs! A terrific place for someone like me - sampling a variety and trying new beers at the same time! For $8, I tried 4 different beers, but I also sampled my date's selection bringing the grand total to 9. I found the perfect one for my taste buds - Gose Gone Wild by Stillwater. Beware, it is tart! We also really liked the Founders' Porter. The descriptions are clearly listed for each beer. They have space for 28 choices which is switched out from time to time, but they were out of 2 when we were there. They will show you how to operate the wall. It is so easy! Also note: you should switch out glassware every time for sanitary reasons. The downside is that some of the beers are kinda expensive, but what do I know? The prices ranged from like $0.35/oz to over $0.70/oz. Beer wall! (Insert outburst of joy) You do have to get over the fact that it's located inside Argosy casino. Nothin' against casinos other than the smoke factor. I don't like going home smelling like an ashtray. With regards to food, my chicken sandwich was average (a bit dry), but they do have delicious flatbreads. Looking forward to coming back soon! read more

This is my second time at 99 hops house. I always want to call it an alehouse because of all the selections of beer but that's not the name. What's not to like about 99 hops house? They have several TVs at least 50 inches by almost every table and viewing area. For someone that's into sports especially around tourney time, this is your place! I believe my pride and joy this place is the beer wall. They have twice as many selections behind the bar with the bartender will be happy to give you. But the beer wall is where it's at! You have several North Kansas City and Kansas City favorites on tap. You can put as little or as much as you like. Just simply run a tab with a credit card and they will give you one of the house cards to put on the touch screen to select whatever beer you would like to sample and enjoy. The chicken flavor was not pleasant and may have been dark meat. The cheese was cold and reminded me of cheese wiz. The toppings are not the normal nacho fixings. The wings were a star! They were full size chicken wings (yes hunty), and 4 came in an order. Cooked well inside and out. Very flavorful buffalo sauce. Crisp wings and very juicy. I'm a big fan of this place but I have had issues for many years with the self service beer wall. It's an absolute disgrace. The beer is often WARM, over pressurized which creates a flat beer, and also often dirty beer lines that weren't cleaned properly before the next style of beer goes on tap which creates an awful taste making the beers undrinkable. Now when I visit I just order beers from behind the bar, or sometimes a mixed drink from Tommy, and he's an amazing bartender. The food here is pretty decent so no complaints there. I'm just frustrated that for years, many years it's the same old thing with this beer wall that might as well not even exist. Someone needs to be brought in to fix the keg temperature and lines before it's ever worth someone wasting time getting a beer card for the self serve station. Time and again I continued to be amazed with the service and friendly atmosphere at 99 Hops House! It's not just he employees! It's the other patrons! Walk on it pull up a seat at the bar, order some grub from one of the wonderful bartenders and then head back to the beer wall! Back at the beer wall you'll still find that amazing rotating variety of beer. This place has been going strong a little over 2 years and has been getter better each day. Decided to eat here for convenience and was so surprised at the wonderful flavor of everything we had. We had poutine fries with rich salty gravy. For our main courses we had chicken fried chicken and a burger called the Bella burger. The mashed potatoes with the chicken fried chicken were real. Lena and I met our friends here yesterday for some beer and I'll just say this cool new joint at Argosy is really really fun. First of all, I really enjoyed the bar top setting. The bartender was very nice and helpful, and the all around experience and atmosphere was just the sort of thing that could keep me sitting there for a few hours.....unfortunately, I had to drive! They also had a beer tasting tap wall, that I have never seen before, but I'm assuming is becoming more popular. The bartender hands me a key card and I walk to the tap wall, pick the beer I want, and pour it into my glass. They charge by the fraction of an oz, so you can have as much or as little as you like. Basically, I had about 7 1-2 oz samples and it only cost me around 7 bucks, and they were very good beers. Also, we tried some food, which was also good. We shared some deviled eggs and poutine which were both surprisingly tasty. I certainly recommend this place for the beer selection, very good choices and many from my home state of Oregon! read more
