We called 30 minutes prior to arriving to see if there was a spot available. No problems in getting one. We pulled up and were greeted with a smile and 2 homemade chocolate chip cookies. We were able to buy a cable cord in the gift shop for our rv. We only spoke to the one lady in the shop but she was very nice. Our site was a pull-through near the edge of the park. There is a swimming pool and a small dog park, but we used neither. The grass does need to be cut and edged.

Picnic table falling apart - we had to move it because it was hanging in the space when we went to pull in. Over priced as well. We stayed at 6 other KOA's that were all much nicer and all were $25 to $30 less. Also there's no way to connect your coach to WiFi as those system is antiquated. Skip this KOA.

We were in site nine, which actually has a pretty private little area for your stay as well as as a picnic table that had a shelter over it. They do have a pool as well as a nice size laundry room with four washers and four dryers everything operated on quarters. It was two dollars to wash a load at $1.25 for 45 minutes of drying. They did offer us a menu when we arrive for a barbecue restaurant. I've included a picture of that, but the prices were really high so we did not partake. They were friendly at check-in as well. You were just a couple miles from the small town of Santa Rosa, looks like they have events and stuff happening down there so might want to check out the local calendar. We also found a little gym called Lyons heart that would let you do a day pass for $10, you can see that review separately. It's a short drive out of Roswell, but it feels like you've stepped into a quieter, older story. Legend says they tried to measure the lake with ropes tied end to end and never hit bottom. Maybe that's true. Maybe it's just a good tale told over a couple beers. Either way, standing there, staring into that dark water, you start to feel it--that little itch in your brain that wonders if everything you've been told is only half the story. We rolled in like we knew what we were doing cooler packed, grill fired up, chicken skewers sizzling, jalapeño poppers snapping over the flame, and my buddy throwing together something that leaned suspiciously close to Hawaiian poke. No crowds. No noise but what we brought with us. Bose speaker cranked, music bouncing off the water, beers cracking open one after another like punctuation marks in a long, lazy sentence. It wasn't polished. It wasn't fancy. It was just right. That's the thing about a place like this it doesn't try to impress you. It just sits there, quiet and a little mysterious, letting you project whatever story you came with. Some of it feels real. Some of it feels like the kind of myth you tell because reality isn't quite enough. Either way, it sticks with you. Bottom line off the beaten path, a little rough around the edges, and exactly the kind of place that earns its spot on the list.

It was fascinating to me, but I am sure my dog was wondering why it was scorching out on that August 2, 2016. We had been in Angel Fire where it was much cooler. Lol. I drove over to the first Visitor Center area. Then driving back over the dam some guy with a boat was tailgating us so I pulled over back into the day use area. What a jackwagon. The lake was a bit low, but there were several RV campers and a few boats out fishing. No entry fee that day. Not sure I would ever return, yet, I am glad I got to see it.

The busiest weekend is July 4th, otherwise it's a fairly quiet lake. They have various events throughout July 4th weekend, such as a parade, glow and the dark golf, a picnic, etc. It's quite fun! The fishing is great at the lake, and the water is high.
