    Morning coffee in my RV!

We stopped here on our way to CO last week and I can definitely say I would stay here again. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and the women's restroom was very well kept. Needless to say I definitely felt safe here and highly recommend anyone who's looking to stop for the night with their family and pets to give this place a chance! Especially compared to other places nearby...

We stayed here overnight in our fifth wheel trailer on the way to Colorado. We had a full hookup site which was a gravel pad a pretty close to level. Staff were very friendly and we would definitely stay here again.

Great location between Cannon AFB and Clovis NM. Wide, long sites with full hookups. Many pull thrus. The laundry room is nice and the bathroom/showers are very nice and clean. Friendly people. Also, on site propane fill up. Train tracks are behind the campground and the trains run often.

    Park bathrooms always clean

Super friendly. Lot was clean. Stayed open late so we could get a lot for the night. Went out of their way to loan us equipment in the rain.

Out of potato salad. Pulled pork definitely needed to add the sauce. Maybe a bad day but not for all the meats. I think they need to try some real bbq and then they will know. Hope this isn't the best New Mexico has to offer. It's pretty bad when you have ribs brisket and pork and the best things were the fry's and onion rings.

We arrived tired and super stressed after just driving through a horrific hail and tornado storm in North Texas. In addition to the storm and possible hail damage on our roof, our AC compressor gave out so we had no AC. I had called the park earlier because I wasn't sure we'd make it by closing and was assured (by Chris) there were "many spaces" available and to "come in in" and that he will "come around." We arrived, I checked the reserved spots on the board, grabbed the map and registration envelope and went to see what our choices were. Husband picked one and I immediately got out to go pay (I had paperwork in my hand) and this nasty, ill-tempered man rolled up on a golf cart and berated me for entering the park. This was after he earlier told me to "come on in" and that he will "come around." He then told us we had to move our RV and that no dogs are allowed in the front section of the park which seems odd as the rules do not indicate that at all. Due to his rude, nasty and unwelcoming temperament we decided to leave and then he got even nastier and more rude. Too bad because we wanted to check out the town, we left town due to his aggressive and bullying behavior. Unfortunate way to end our 4000 mile road trip.

It's a short drive out of Roswell, but it feels like you've stepped into a quieter, older story. Legend says they tried to measure the lake with ropes tied end to end and never hit bottom. Maybe that's true. Maybe it's just a good tale told over a couple beers. Either way, standing there, staring into that dark water, you start to feel it--that little itch in your brain that wonders if everything you've been told is only half the story. We rolled in like we knew what we were doing cooler packed, grill fired up, chicken skewers sizzling, jalapeño poppers snapping over the flame, and my buddy throwing together something that leaned suspiciously close to Hawaiian poke. No crowds. No noise but what we brought with us. Bose speaker cranked, music bouncing off the water, beers cracking open one after another like punctuation marks in a long, lazy sentence. It wasn't polished. It wasn't fancy. It was just right. That's the thing about a place like this it doesn't try to impress you. It just sits there, quiet and a little mysterious, letting you project whatever story you came with. Some of it feels real. Some of it feels like the kind of myth you tell because reality isn't quite enough. Either way, it sticks with you. Bottom line off the beaten path, a little rough around the edges, and exactly the kind of place that earns its spot on the list.

We just dropped in during the winter months on a beautiful sunny afternoon to watch the NM sun go down over the west horizon. We stopped by the visitor center and met volunteers, Will and Jody. Let me just say they were super friendly and knowledgeable about the park. When we come back it will certainly be because of these awesome hosts...they were living their best lives. I was jealous. We drove over to a couple of the lakes. We checked out Mirror Lake and the Devil's Inkwell. They both had small trails around them to view the watering hole and the surrounding layers of red quartz on limestone. The area around Lea Lake is better set up for picnics, swimming, and water sports. It was closed for the season, but would open in the Spring. Tip: Make a reservation for space during the warmer months. It was a great outdoor distraction just outside Roswell. Beautiful sunsets, and super calm during the winter.

This lake (to those from New Mexico to others it maybe a pond) is big enough that you don't feel crowded. The water on a clear day is like glass. You can tear it up on a jet ski! The camp sites range from being able to rent it all they way to bringing your most luxurious RV. There is something for everyone. For the clamper camper there is a bathroom and shower place. It is the prefect getaway for a long weekend. Who would not want to spend the day on the lake and an evening under the stars. The only down side is there is not a lot of shade so make sure you pack a lot of sun screen. Being those sun shades as well. "Here fishy, fishy" that's right not only can you jet ski, wakeboard, and water ski but the fishing is pretty good. Tons of places to fish. There are a variety of fish from Bass to Walleye. Bring your fishing poles and gear. It most likely will pay off. Pack up the family and enjoy the fun. Make sure you bring cash. There is a charge per vehicle at the campsites. You can always phone a friend and ride together.
