This is a relaxing spot with a rare find in the area- water. I recently moved to the area and took a book with me to sit here and enjoy the water and watch others fish. I think it would be a fun spot to camp in the summer/ fall/ spring. The campsites are pretty nice. Unfortunately, with the COVID orders, I was soon kicked out because I have not had a chance to change my driver's license yet and only NM residents are being allowed inside the park right now. Even though I explained to the rangers that I just moved here, it didn't matter. They were nice about it at least but a shame I couldn't stay longer. I'll be returning for sure once my license is changed.

Decent little place to get your outdoor on especially if don't want to drive, way out into the boons to do so. Oasis state park gives a otherwise pretty dry place some good water even if it is man made and a decent amount of outdoor fun Parking is 5 dollars, it's based off the honor system. But fork it up and you'll pay foe the continuation of state parks. Every bit counts especially in small areas like Clovis and Portales. There are some nice little trails in the area, nothing super difficult, but lots of flat ground. Great for a casual stroll or to bring the puppers around. Additionally there is camping available but from what I can see it's pretty much the bare necessities. I came here for the fishing. It's a pretty sizable little pond than a lake. It's stocked with rainbow trout during the colder season and some pretty nice catfish during the warmer months. I imagine alot of the donations go towards the stocking of the pond. They also host a little derby twice a year one for catfish and the other for rainbow trout. Tagged fish earn the fisherman cash prizes, which is always a little extra fun. If you're not into fishing it's just good to get outside especially with the kiddos and teach them to love the outdoors. Catching a fishing won't only net you a fish but it'll get them hooked too ;). If you do fish abide by the park rules and limits to share the fun with the rest of the community. Overall: this place is a decent little honey hole. It's not the grandest or super suave, but it gives the patrons of the park a little taste of bigger nature. The fishing is pretty good at times and if anything else just drop by and watch the sunset over the little pond. Bring a date and you won't regret it!!

The wind died down as the sun went away. Clear glassy water was the beautiful result.

Beautiful park. Well maintained camp spaces. The park was mostly free of trash even after the fishing derby which was very nice. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful. There is an amazing little man made pond which is stocked with fish. People enjoy fishing there. There are full restroom facilities and even showers which is nice to have. My dogs really enjoyed the trip to the park. Around the pond there are overhangs with tables and BBQ pits which makes for a great afternoon lunch. Some of the camp site also have overhangs but not all of them do. You can reserve specific camp spots if you know which one you want and call in advance. The one thing that I wish was different is that I wish the camp sites also had barrel fore pits in the ground. The higher BBQ pit was nice but nothing beats sitting around a proper camp fire.

What a lovely place! No showers (they might have been under construction) or wifi, vault toilets, small vehicle fee via the honor system, full hookups and water. Very peaceful and beautiful. The flies were a bit of a problem... It's really just a perfect place to get away from it all. I only stayed one night but it really was a great place to camp.

A favorite spot at the pond!

Oasis is a great place to spend time away from city life. Camping, hiking, fishing or just spending time reconnecting with nature. We have spent time in the upper campground (with RV hook-ups) during several different seasons and we really enjoyed our time there every time. The park staff is small but very friendly and helpful. They hold events that help encourage families and children to learn and spend more time outdoors which is priceless to children who never get to experience these things. The dark night skies and lack of artificial light (street lights) are a huge PLUS for star gazing. Local astronomy clubs meet for "Star Parties" and offer telescope views free to the public that want to attend. Restrooms were always clean and well stocked. Camp sites are always well maintained and clean. ALL the RV sites here are pull through! We have enjoyed watching wildlife to include Mule Deer, porcupine, coyotes, badgers, lizards, snakes, turtles and a multitude of bird species. Both Bob White and Scaled Quail are resident here. For photographers the subjects and unique composition settings are ENDLESS. For bird watchers spring and fall migration are wonderful! Summer nesting species include Bullocks Orioles, various flycatchers, woodpeckers, owls and raptors. Fall and winter offer different waterfowl best seen at sunrise on the pond. Summers can be very hot, early spring can be very windy. Overall a GREAT place to visit! We appreciate the efforts and hard work of the small staff on duty keeping the park clean and safe for all visitors. I wish everyone would take more pride in keeping our land CLEAN by practicing "leave NO trace". Now for my review on some of the previous reviewers: Fees are NOT FREE or by "donations" as previously stated. Fee's are $5.00 per vehicle for day use, $10.00 for overnight tent camping and $14.00 for overnight camping with electric hook ups. $5.00 per vehicle for DAY USE applies to everyone entering whether you are sleeping, fishing, playing, hiking, or eating a quick lunch. The huge sign at the gate clearly states the fees and payment options to those who actually STOP and follow the rules. Those that gave bad reviews for OASIS STATE PARK because of the flies are being ridiculous. You are in the outdoors and pests of some kind are inevitable. The flies are not the fault of this park (nor is the heat, wind, cold, etc...) and spraying would require crop dusters and chemicals that are non-discriminate killers.

I visited the refuge in early January of 2011, to see the sandhill cranes. They have about 17,500…read morethis year according to their website, but I only saw a few hundred from a distance. We hiked across Pauls Lake, one of the salty and pretty much entirely dry (at this point) playa lakes. There are 3 main playa lakes, Goose, White, and Pauls. Bring binoculars. I also saw some Western Meadowlarks, a large raptor of some kind (about 2 feet long), American Kestrels, and prairie dogs. You can hike on pretty much the entire preserve, but there is cactus and rattlesnakes, although we didn't see any snakes. They have a picnic and tent camping area, and there are no fees to get into the park. They have a sign-in point at the headquarters, but there weren't any people there. There are chemical toilets at the picnic area and near Pauls Lake, which is a little farther down the highway. There also was another scenic overlook/picnic area on the very end of the preserve, which you can enter off the highway. Scattered around the property are signs that talk about points of interest with visitors. Overall I enjoyed the wild and lonely scenery but didn't see too much wildlife. Maybe because it was kind of cold out. The premises appeared well cared-for by the refuge staff, we saw them repairing a bridge on the picnic area trail. There also were various burned areas of grass which they do to remove undesirable plants and to maintain the prairie ecosystem. If you visit I recommend sturdy shoes, binoculars, a picnic lunch (there are no nearby eateries), and to print a map beforehand. There was one available online but I didn't see any in the lobby area.
