Gran Caffè Gambrinus - Free snacks (pastry on the right had a hair in it)

Gran Caffè Gambrinus is a must-visit if you're in Naples. Open since 1860--before Naples was even…read moreofficially part of a unified Italy--the historic cafe has been serving guests for more than 165 years and has welcomed everyone from artists and writers to politicians and royalty. The beautifully preserved interior, with its marble, chandeliers, frescoes, and ornate details, is reason enough to stop in. We visited later in the evening and were pleasantly surprised to find no line or wait. It was a bit confusing at first. There's a few different areas to order and a separate line/section if you want to dine-in. We dined in and got seated at a table right away, but I imagine it's much busier during the day/peak hours. Though there is plenty of seating inside and outside. We ordered a variety of pastries, including the maritozzo con la panna, a sampler platter, sfogliatella, and the famous Delizia al Limone. The Delizia al Limone was what I ordered and was light, fresh, and perfectly balanced without being overly sweet. The lemon flavor was perfect and I was perfectly happy with my choice. The menu also includes coffee, espresso, cocktails, sandwiches, and other light bites. What impressed me most was how affordable everything was, especially considering the stunning setting and the café's reputation. I am from Hawaii though where everything is twice the price, so that may be subjective. While takeout is available, I'd recommend dining inside if you have the time. The atmosphere is part of the experience, and it's worth slowing down to appreciate the history and beautiful art inside their historic walls. Gran Caffè Gambrinus is absolutely worth adding to your Naples itinerary. Between the rich history, beautiful interiors, delicious pastries, and surprisingly reasonable prices, it's easy to see why it has remained one of Naples' most beloved institutions for well over a century.

A 3.5 star experience for me at this very busy & definitely a tourist attraction of course (that's…read morewhy we were there ;P) on this famous 19th-century historic café. We stopped by for an afternoon pick-me-up and drinks. The wait for indoor seating was longer, so we opted for the covered patio with a shorter wait. I walked in to tour around and took a peek in the dinning room, It's totally 2 different vibes from the grand interiors inside (like Angelina in Paris) vs casual outdoor patio which offers a front-row view of bustling Piazza Trieste e Trento. We had a nice time to wind down sipping Aperol Spritz along with the complimentary snacks and people watching.

5 stars easy. I was walking my way across the city coming on my way to go get some fried goodness…read morea few blocks away. I walked by this bar and wasn't necessarily in search of a drink, but there were a few people standing and smoking and drinking at the stand up tables outside, I heard music that sounded cool and I glanced in and saw a full bar and a fridge full of high quality beer. I was tired, thirsty, and I was on vacation. When in vacation mode I have more of a, "hey I'm on vacation, I can splurge a little" type of attitude. I noticed a kwak beer in the fridge, but didn't see any prices anywhere. I figured I would get one no matter the price and just sit down, take a load off and enjoy myslef and my beer. To my surprise I was met with a smile, an eagerness to please and a price of 4 euro. I've noticed that most bars in europe don't tend to try to gouge you on drink prices. I was happy with my beer, the ambiance and everything this bar had to offer. My feet also needed a break and this worked out perfectly for everything. I also looked up this place on yelp b/c it had a yelp sticker outside and it was rated well, so I figured I couldn't go wrong with giving it a try. Then it was on to Di Matteo....
