It was ~ 40°F outside and windy, so we popped in this restaurant and felt so warm and comfy inside :) The menu had a long of great options, and the seafood risotto was verrrrry tempting (must order for 2x people). We ended up ordering the paccheri and linguini with seafood to share. The linguini was so good and the serving of seafood was so generous that I was starting to run out of linguini (unheard of, really!). The artichoke mixed in the paccheri really elevated the flavors of the tomatoes and shrimp. I think we have a new love for cherry tomatoes, raw or sautéed. We finished our late lunch with a macchiato each, and the espresso was strong and flavorful. I might be a coffee addict and I'm not afraid to show it! Aside from the food, the interior was tastefully decorated with a coffee bar at the entrance, and an extremely clean bathroom with a separate sink area. There's also free WiFi, plus lighting or USB-C chargers in the wall just makes this a great place to leisurely have lunch and coffee. Our waiter was very kind and we didn't feel rushed or ignored. As expected when dining in, there is a cover charge, which was only €2.50 per person which is not bad for the location near Rialto Bridge, and is much lower than some places at St. Mark's Square. The restaurant seemed far enough away from the main tourist area and there weren't menus with pictures sitting outside, both of which would have been obvious signs to stay away! Service was good and the food was great. My carbonara was excellent, you could tell that they were using very high quality pasta. The courtyard were sitting in was lovely if a bit plain, and really the only complaint that I have here is that despite the patio being empty, both other parties that were sat were directly next to us with one of them being smokers, and that really put a damper on the end of the meal.

For dinner in peak season, try to make a reservation as the restaurant is very small. We arrived before our reservation time and were seated immediately inside and greeted warmly by the restaurant owner. We ordered a bottle of wine to start (most under 20 Euros for a 75 ML bottle). For appetizers we ordered the cheese with honey for 13 Euros, absolutely amazing! We also combined this with the local olive oil and fresh bread brought to the table to start as well. For our second course we chose two pastas, the Penne Alla Amatriciana (I think it was around 12 Euros), and the Spaghetti Alla Carbonara (I think it was around 12 Euros as well). Both had extremely fresh homemade ingredients and were out of this world and extreme attention to care in the preparation. For our entree we split the breaded pork chop (I think it was around 20 Euros), including a side of potatoes (similar to the steak fries that you would see in the U.S.) The service was absolutely amazing and we loved dining alongside the owner and his family and meeting the cat that also lives at the restaurant and comes by to greet you during the meal as well. The short, scenic walk rewards you with a simple but charming trattoria with more tables spilling around the corner. The wait staff are pleasant, efficient, professional. Everything is molto fresco, rich with deep, layered Mediterranean flavors. I don't think you can really go wrong here.

This is how I wound up at Muro Venezia - Frari my first evening in Venice. Arriving to what looked like a full restaurant, I was happy to be seated al fresco along with everyone else who'd heeded the message to come here. Service, food, and ambiance were all quite good. Over beer, wine, a shared starter of assorted meatballs, and a shared pizza I found nothing to dislike. In fact, by the end of my 5 night stay I was almost ready to return here rather than risk having a mediocre meal elsewhere. You'll walk by a million restaurants in Venice, most looking almost identical to one another. Muro Venezia - Frari looks similar but it has a different, better energy. It's busy for a good reason. Stop, and see if there's a table for you.
