Hmm, this one is a tricky one as I'm not sure what to make of the place! I went for a Funzing event that was discounted from £15 to £5, so this is the only reason I entered the Trapeze Bar's doors on Wednesday evening.
We were welcomed by a waitress who seated us at our table. As no one came to serve us, I ordered at the bar - 2 canned beers (only £2.50 each during Happy Hour!) and the Tasting Platter (for £15) that was listed on their Happy Hour menu. I actually had to order this 3 times!!! The man I first ordered from didn't really make eye contact with me and was clearly distracted by something else. I then ordered from another man, who didn't seem willing to take my order... I then stopped talking to him to then order again from the original man, who had forgotten my initial order... Eventually I managed to make the order! I then sat down with the 2 beers for my boyfriend and I, and we eagerly waited for our Tasting Platter, and for the Cirque Noir show to being (at 8pm).
The Tasting Platter took a reasonable time, and it was just about enough food to keep us going for the night. We were slightly disappointed as we thought it would be the first sharing platter from the normal menu, but it turns out that the Happy Hour Tasting Platter is a mix of 2 sharing platters from the normal menu. The chicken goujons were slightly dry, but all in all, it was an okay platter - there could have been more salsa and cheese on the nachos... and there was quite a pathetic amount of coleslaw unfortunately. I was a bit annoyed we had spent the £15 on it, but if you're hungry, it's something that will do to keep you going.
We then ordered a round of cocktails, only £5 which is a great price for London. However, I can understand why they're only £5... They weren't made very well at all, it was all a bit too overpowering, the alcohol and the syrup, or the mixer, it was just all a bit too much! It wasn't very well shaken or shaken with enough ice, but again, I guess "it'll do" for only £5. It is just a shame that they weren't slightly better.
The night in all in all was quite fun, especially after downloading a 2-4-1 voucher on cocktails from their website, I recommend you do the same as they certainly aren't worth the full price...! The show that we saw was entertaining, the MC called "Chastity Belt" was good at keeping the crowd entertained, and the acts were quite impressive: fire breathing, nipple tassles, a big long pole with a man climbing up and down it, and some crazy impressive yoga poses, that were extreme!!! It was a fun night, so recommend going for this show I found, but otherwise, I wouldn't recommend popping in there for a drink as the cocktails are disappointing, and if you're not there for Happy Hour it would indeed be a rip off! read more
