Scotturb - Coming and going on a very narrow road

Tickets are purchased on board and the driver was not only able to make change and provide my ticket, he was busy driving the bus at the time. That was impressive. The bus did have a wifi network but we're out in the sticks here in many cases on switchback roads in the mountains east of Lisbon. It didn't work very well so I switched to cellular. Other than that, it's a pretty standard city bus with 2x2 seating, hand grabs throughout and even USB chargers (through the one at my seat had been vandalized). The bus was clean and well lit. It kept to the schedule posted in the bus stop where I picked it up in Cascais and where I returned from Cabo da Roca. [Review 19047 overall - 241 in Portugal - 16 of 2023.]

Terrible experience - dishonest pricing and overcrowded buses…read more I took a Scotturb bus in Portugal and was extremely disappointed. The driver refused to sell the regular €4 ticket, insisting that I buy the 24h pass for €13.50. On their own website, this pass is listed at €12, but the price on the bus is made to look like a discount (they cross out €18 to make it seem like a deal -- it's not). To make things worse, the bus was completely packed, with people standing shoulder to shoulder for the entire ride. No comfort, no space, no respect for the advertised service. A tourist trap on wheels. Avoid if you can -- especially if you expect fair pricing and basic travel conditions.

There are multiple tracks and you might need to ask someone which is the next train to depart. Or you can just follow everyone who is boarding one or the other. If you miss it, there's another in 30 minutes (off peak) or 12 minutes (peak). But before that, you will need to purchase a ticket to scan at the turnstile. The machine has an "English" button and accepts cards, notes and coins. One-way fare is €2,30 and you should expect a conductor on board checking tickets. It is easy to find your way to the bus stop from here as there are signs and a tunnel. The 403 bus stops here for the ride to Cabo da Roca. Head out and to the left, stay on the sidewalk and follow the coastline to the Cidadela de Cascais or the Farol de Santa Marta. Beyond those, it is a 1.5 km walk to the Boca do Inferno but it's mostly smooth and handicapped accessible. Or you can wait for the M27 bus that goes the long way. The station has some snack shops and quick restaurants but you're also right into downtown, so there is much more nearby including all the tourist shops you can imagine. The station toilets charge 50 cents for rather grubby facilities. If you'd like something better for free, and can wait, you can go across the street to the Cascais Villa. This train line has four fare zones - going all the way to Cais do Sodre' will set you back E 2.20 unless you're a kid or over 65. It takes about 40 minutes from one end to the other, and trains come pretty regularly. During rush hour some trains may not stop at all stations.

Comfortable flight to Lisbon…read more TAP literally provided us with a smooth transport by air to Portugal. This is a Star Alliance airline that offers direct flights to their central hub in Lisbon. Among our choice between TAP and AC, they came out on top for value of the flights. The planes were relatively new Airbus A330neo with decent entertainment and comfort. The highlight was the in-flight service. The cabin crew were consistently friendly and hospitable. For long haul, meals were served shortly after takeoff and a small breakfast was also served closer to landing in the 7-hour flight from Toronto. Premium meals were surprisingly flavourful created by local renowned chefs. Complimentary wine was served and we enjoyed the sweetest orange juice. Seafood stew included mussel, shrimp, scallop, served along with a buttery crab & shrimp salad starter. On the return flight, meagre fish fillet was flakey elevated by the sweet potato purée and the codfish salad starter was equally refreshing. The desserts featured a traditional trilogy of ice cream, fruit and cheese along with espresso and dark chocolate. Portuguese fruits tasted so ripe being sun-kissed in the region. We did carry-on only and avoided any potential with luggage issues that has been a complaint. I was initially asked to drop in the carry-on while printing the boarding pass. Everything was quite smooth otherwise. One drawback is the frequent bus gate which often took a while to depart. Skip it or hit it? We will consider TAP again if we fly to Portugal due to the good service and value.
