Trust is the name of the game here! Early morning - most people still asleep, pitch black outside, heavy rain, cold, and all of a sudden, what lights up the sky? That smile! And that smile belongs to the most punctual, most efficient, most reliable, most helpful, and most good-natured taxi driver on the planet: Margarida Neves! Then ... destination Lisbon Portela Airport! She definitely doesn't fit the widely held view of Lisbon's drivers being some of the worst in the world. She's an excellent driver. (She's also completely fluent in English.) This lady gives the term 'personalised customer service' a whole new meaning - from carrying one of my bags to seeing me all the way to the check-in counter at the airport and making sure I had all the info I needed. I should add that I am not by nature a fan of taxi drivers and typically avoid them as I would the plague. Such cynicism comes from years of bad experiences with them: a jimmied taxi metre in Shanghai to an unwanted city tour of Istanbul to both a jimmied meter and an unwanted city tour in Marrakech to a 'l'Il take you to a better hotel' in Tunis! Problem is that I look like 'easy prey': single, female, white hair (well, most of the time), English speaking; therefore, automatically assumed to be a wealthy foreigner just waiting to be fleeced. My first and last impression of this lady, Margarida Neves, can be summed up in one word: 'trust'. And that, for me, is a very important consideration! read more

Margarida was recommended by our concierge at an AirBnB in Lisbon when we asked about getting to Sintra. On a day's notice, Margarida arrived on time and took us along the beautiful coast with stops at Boca do Inferno, and a wonderful, completely non-touristy restaurant in Sintra for lunch. She is not only an exceptionally good driver, she is an extremely knowledgeable guide and takes you to places that are not the usual, crowded, touristy sites. Her car is very clean and comfortable, her English is excellent (not true of most taxi drivers and even Uber drivers), and she's an amazing photographer to boot. She is a wonderful person to spend time with: she is lots of fun and has a wonderful sense of humor. She took us to the airport after first giving us a tour of the TimeOut Market and the Parque das Nacoes with its extraordinary, modern architecture. She even walked us to the correct elevator to make sure we didn't get lost. She is punctual, reliable, generous with her time, and very reasonable. Our experience in Lisbon was definitely enriched by our having met her. We would definitely use her service the next time we are in Lisbon, and will also ask her to take us to places in the interior. She should really be listed in TripAdvisor as a Tour Operator as her service in the regard is outstanding. If you're looking to tour Lisbon, Sintra or any surrounding areas of Portugal we encourage you to contact Margarida for her tour services. The day we left to return home, she drove us to Lisbon airport and then walked us inside to get us to the check-in area. My first thought was we didn't need the hand holding, but in hindsight we're really glad she took the time because we needed every bit of the time we had to get through security and customs. She is the best taxi driver I ever had, even including Uber or Lyft drivers, and I take a lot of Uber and taxi rides in different states in the US and in Paris France. In fact, my child is having a lay-over in Lisbon soon, I will make sure that my child get in touch with Margarida Neves for a short "tour" of Lisbon . Margarida has a reasonable per hour rate, to drive around Lisbon's tourist sites. I will ask Margarida to just drive my child from the airport , have a short drive to some of the sights, grab a better meal (than the airport's), before my child continues her journey.. I hope to be back myself in Lisbon to stay a few days, instead of just a lay-over . Margarida was so nice , that I will give her a free tour of my city if and when she visits. My family and I had a great time touring Lisbon with Margarida last week. She took us to all of the best spots with the best views. She even took some lovely photos of our family. She is a great driver and having been raised in Lisbon, she has tons of knowledge. Her van is new and clean with a huge sun roof that provides a great view. We really enjoyed the 3 days that we spent with Margarida touring all over Lisbon and the countryside. She took us to places that we would not have seen had we tried on our own complete with many pictures of the both of us. I'm glad we made initial contact with her as she has created memories of our trip that we will cherish forever. A friend forever and you will be missing a great opportunity to see the "real" Lisbon if you don't contact her and spend some quality time with her. I called this service the day before we needed a ride to the Train Station and made all the arrangements for her to pick us up. She advised on what time we needed to leave and provided the cost ahead of time. She stayed in touch texting us and showed up on time. We laughed and talked all the way to the station. Not only did she drop us off but went inside the station with us and made sure we got in the correct line to get our seat assignment. She is the best!!! read more
