C'mon, how can you knock a Lisboa institution??? This old-gal needs some loving, and I'm giving it to her! :D On our post-Christmas Day stroll around our neighborhood, we decided to play "tourist" and check-out one of three funiculars in this town. (Our apartment is literally a hundred feet from the popular Elevador da Gloria--we can hear and feel it doing its up-and-down throughout the day.) To be honest, we wouldn't pay the tourist price of 4+ euros; however, with our Navigant card, we can zap on for a mere buck-sixty! We started at the bottom (at Rua de Sāo Paulo), which took us up to where we needed to be to get home (the Bairro Alto). It was all fun and amusing watching all the tourists taking pictures and videos of us making the ride up! The conductor was a bit of a bah-humbug kinda guy; but, that's perhaps par for the course, as it's not the most exciting job. (That said, I'd be a bit more sociable....) ;) All-in-all we had a great two-and-a-half minute ride uphill...! :D read more
