Today's journey brought me to Saldanha. It is one of the crossover stations as it serves both the…read moreLinha Vermelha (Red Line) and the Linha Amarela (Yellow Line). It is one of the oldest stations on the Lisbon network, having opened in 1959. It is an underground station and is surprisingly handicapped accessible. At the street level, look for the lift station. I couldn't find it. That would have been helpful for me with my big suitcase today. Instead, I lugged it down the stairs. The ticketing concourse has the usual automated vending machines (my 24 hour ticket hasn't expired yet!) and turnstiles. On the Yellow line, it is between Campo Pequeno (towards Odivelas and Picoas (towards Rato). And on the Red Line, it is between São Sebastião (the next station is the end of the line) and Alameda (towards Aeroporto). Signage was good enough that I did not get lost or on the wrong platform. You can use the red line from this station to get to the Airport within 19 minutes, and the central location within the city would make this a likely stopover point for those travelling to the Airport. It is also reasonably close to the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel. The Lisbon Metro seemed straightforward to navigate between lines and in stations. Ticket machines have an English language option. The pricing is reasonable, costing €1.80 for unlimited use of the metro within one hour, however, you must also purchase the "navegante card" for 50 cents, this can be re-loaded, but with it only being a tiny bit of paper, it is easy to damage or misplace, and the cost does add up if you keep leaving it behind. The Lisbon Metro as a whole is unique and many of the stations have interesting artwork which can be a tourist attraction in its own right. In terms of everything else, it's pretty much an average Metro station in Lisbon, the art is nice, but there are certain nicer-looking stations on the network, once you're underground it is fairly easy to follow the station and get between lines, with signage provided in English and Portuguese being quite good. I do agree with other reviews that the lift was hard to find, and I too had to carry my large suitcase down the stairs on my way to the Airport. 3*

We hopped onboard the third tram that came around as they have limited seating- about 20 seats. You can stand though. The ride was about 30 minutes and ended around Chiado. It was a nice ride, but I don't feel as if it's a must.

We were warned at our hotel about pickpockets here, they were hawkers offering us rides & things. We weaved past churches, shops, cafes, museums, lots of beautiful tiled buildings. The ride ended at a cemetery where we all disembarked and waited for an electric car back. I don't know what o was expecting, but it wasn't anything special.

The tram takes 90 seconds to climb the hill from Largo da Anunciada, by Avenida da Liberdade, to Rua Câmara Pestana. It departs every 10 or 15 minutes and carries up to 42 passengers. UP A CURVING HILL- I follow him then he cancels the trip. Unacceptable- unprofessional and not a standard UBER should stand behind. No call- no text. I was left to find my way to town 30 min walking on windy roads. This could have been avoided by your driver having the decency to keep the ride since I waited!!!!! I have never had this happen to me. It's humiliating and has caused me so much stress. A taxi ride back home was $45 USD!!! There is another ride share option in this country but I choose to support Uber. Not sure why.

Side platforms. Like many of the stations in the Lisbon metro, the walls are decorated with artworks to enjoy while you're passing through. A number of benches are along the wall to sit while you're waiting for the next train. There is a sign with the current time and how long until that next train arrives. There are exits at both ends of the platform though only one has a lift. Otherwise, expect quite a few stairs. The usual (limited) signage at street level indicates that there is a metro station here. Below that is a ticketing concourse with turnstiles and automated ticket vending machines. It is between Alameda (towards Telheiras) and Anjos (towards Cais do Sodré). The Mercado de Arroios and Miradouro da Penha de França are near the station.
