The owner Salim Safran quoted one price to rebuild my transmission on my 2017 Ford Edge and came back and tried to increase the price. I refused as this was not what we agree upon. The quote was for $2200, and he increase it to $2600. After receiving my car from the shop on March 3, 2025, 1 day later, I brought it back as the transmission was not shifting correctly. I was told by Evette a gray hair woman who works the front desk, who become very aggressive and rude when you ask questions to give it more time. My car is my sole means of transportation to get back and forth to work. The warranty is 6months or 3000 miles whichever comes first. Here we are after multiple time of bringing my car back, transmission is completely out. Now, September my transmission out. I'm out of $2200 and when come to discuss, they agreed to look at the transmission. Concluding I'm out of warranty. After coming and asking to see the owner, I was asked to leave and then they demanded we take the vehicle right than even though it not running. Mr. Safran has no respect for people who patronize his business. I will be reporting this company to the Better Business Bureau. Warning, Don't waste your money, avoid this business, I spent 3 thousand on a transmission with this company, thinking that I was getting a deal and trying to save a few dollars, comparing to the car dealership prices, I now wish that I would have paid the extra at the dealership, because my transmission only lasted 3 and a half months, my transmission went back out right after the 3 month warranty, had expired. Let me first start by saying that this place has a pattern with the customers in this community. While I was waiting to get my car serviced, there were several customers that returned, due to the problems they had with their car after Transmissions 4 Less fixed their car. They have the worst customer service and worse mechanics (I believe that are not licensed) I've ever experienced. The owner of the company Salim Safran is a practicing mechanic (not licensed) nor does he honor his warranties. I had my car serviced (transmission rebuild) on 12/24/2019. The original problem with the car was that the transmission was slipping. After I had it serviced. I picked it up on 1/2/2020, test drove it with the mechanic in the car and it seemed to be working fine. Less than one week, I heard this dragging noise underneath my car where I shift the gears that I wasn't there before, so I took the car back into their shop since I have a 6month warranty. The shop opens at 9 am, I got there at 8:55 am and they didn't open the shop until 9:45, the receptionist said they had only one mechanic, so it was going to be a while. Unbelievable! I was the first one to arrive there and I still had to wait. After waiting for 7hrs for them to tell me the noise was from a cable from my 4WD they apparently broke and didn't tell me when they fixed my transmission. Salim (they owner) me I needed to buy the cable to fix the problem. Huh? I didn't pay $1300.00 for them to tell me that I had to purchase a cable they broke when they supposedly fixed my transmission. Because I know a little about cars, I tried to explain to the owner Salim Safran that the cable he was referring to that needed to be reconnected to the transfer case/transmission to resolve the problem was something they needed repair. He dismissed everything I said without even investigating the problem and told me he only fix transmissions. Well, if I'm not mistaken that cable connects to the transmission. I know because I've asked a number of mechanics. I asked that he should at least drive the car and listen to the sound I was describing, but he refused. I then asked one of his mechanics to ride with me to investigate the problem and the mechanic (Hakeem) noticed the sound. Hakeem explained to his boss the issue was associated with the transmission. After the owner, Salim Safran refused to honor the 6month warranty, he proceeded to throw me and my father out of his shop. This is the worse place on the SouthSide of Chicago. They do not honor their warranty and the customer service is horrible. Now I wonder if the parts are new they use to rebuild my transmission. They are not REAL mechanics! DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE FOR ANY CAR SERVICE. I WILL DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMEND TRANSMISSION 4 LESS to ANYONE! I hate mechanics. There, I said it. This coming from a guy who likes to drive 10 year old luxury cars. I live up in the north shore and there is a saying that you get what you pay for. That may be true, but I paid a lot for repairs done wrong in the past. My trans started slipping. The BMW Stealerships wanted over 7,000.00 to rebuild the transmission. Another private mechanic in my area wanted 3,500.00 and he was going to ship it out to another guy. I started looking around and nobody would quote a price over the phone except these guys. What I liked the most was that they posted their prices on their website. They stick to their price. Another plus is that they have something like 16 bays to work on cars and all they do , I think, is rebuild transmissions. They must do over a hundred cars a month. This left me with confidence and I dropped my car off on a Saturday. After a week and a couple of days I got my car back. I went on the expressway and drove home. I didn't have one issue and was happy to be back in my 2005 645 vert. I still have to go back after a week and then again in two months. I guess they do this with all cars for adjustments in case something is not lined up 100%. But as of today, no issues. So why not five stars? I almost did. The negatives 1. It's in a bad neighborhood. But let's be realistic. If you have to pay more for the property or rent, the prices go up. 2. I feel horrible saying this , but the on-hold music is very difficult on the ears to those who don't understand the language. Please don't take that personally, but consider turning it off. 3. The signage needs to be updated. They say they only take checks, or cash. They take debit cards as well. I still am on the edge of upgrading them to a five. So, for those of you considering hiring these guys....... Please consider that ( I'm guessing) they do 1,200 transmissions a year and upset people are the vocal ones. Since there are only a few negative comments on here, give them your business. You will end up with a car that is running good and you will save some money. I'm going to wait and see how my check ups go and update this post then. But, for now, thank you for a good job and a great price. Oh, as listed on their website, I paid $2,500.00 for my BMW 645Ci. Most cars are much cheaper. Well the check up didn't go well. The car still had problems. Six weeks of trying to fix my trains and then he gave up and refunded my money. I ended up going to another mechanic who swapped my transmission. The car runs great now. Funny thing is that the second mechanic said it was a ford transmission in my BMW. I didn't think that could happen. I don't know who put that transmission in there, but don't you think T4less should have told me? In any case, I went on a roller coaster ride with these guys. But, like most when you are need of something and you do not want to get hustled by the in person shop you took car to, your sub conscience gets the best of you. What I mean by this is you shop quick to get a second opinion to find out that this was truly the con. I almost rushed into something I would of totally regretted after not only seeing these reviews but experiencing horrible initial customer service. So, I call in about the $699 (most cars) no hidden fee, less than most transmission rebuilders in Chicago speal I saw on the website. The receptionists hits me with "where did you get $699 from cars start off at $799"! Really, so she must of not received the internal memo because their website was last updated this year. So when was the increase and why wouldn't they have updated their misleading price? Probably because this is how they sucker you to get you in the door! So she quotes my vehicle with less than $1200 ($1050) "out the door, taxes included" and then when she tells me about the free diagnostic and switches up my quote to $1200? So I contest this and you know what comes next.....well you can take your car somewhere else rebuttal. All I have to say my friends is read all the reviews and especially this one from Judith M. After reading that review right now I was appalled to even see that the owner wrote back to her and argued with her instead of remedying the situation. My car has been in this shop for damn near 3 1/2 weeks I was told 7 to 10 days drove from the border of Wisconsin for there service. I continuously call and constantly being lied to I am now out of money for an extended rental and lost out on a trip I paid for. I left my 2006 Range Rover there to get repair I paid 400 dollars which they said no warranty,its seemed kinda funny with no warranty but I went ahead and got it done and my truck was still leaking a new pan but horrible work I do not recommend this place to anyone I will rather pay 1000 dollars then to get ripped off from these guys again. It was not making that noise when it went in. The brakes ,the muffler and the transmission are three different things. You didn't do anything for me when you made the adjustment. You adjusted it because you didn't do it right in the first place. IF SOMETHING IS DONE RIGHT IT DOESN"T NEED ADJUSTING. The brakes got fixed and the transmission was still messed up. The car had to be driven in neutral. I'm not stupid, no one can tell me ,that the gear was shifting incorrectly because of the brakes. We didn't have the time to bring the car, from Naperville to the north side of Chicago, to have it adjusted for 6 months . My son went to fight a war, he didn't have time bring the car in to be adjusted over and over and over. When he got back, the warranty was over. Nevertheless, the muffler was making a noise that it wasn't making before, like a part was missing. You said the exhaust system would have to be replaced. Actually,seeing that you were driving the same car, that added to my suspicion. You sure remember a lot for a car you worked on from 3 years ago. Did you look it up, when you saw this review? Well, go look up the others too...lol I don't have an attitude . I don't have to lie. I'm very blessed. What you don't know is I'm in business for myself too. I took my 1999 Honda Accord to Transmissions 4 less in December 2010 for a transmission job. They had the car for about 5 days and then called us to say it was fixed. Upon receiving the vehicle we proceeded to drive it about 50 miles, with the transmission apparently fixed, but starting to get louder and louder. We eventually stopped about 50 miles south of Chicago on I-57 and called the owner of the shop. He did arrange to have the vehicle towed back to the shop for no charge, where he did some more work on it. Although his shop is located in a rough neighborhood and they are not exactly customer friendly, I can overlook that if the price is low and they do a competent job. For example, I recall they did not want personal checks or credit cards, and that's fine if they spell it out for you at the beginning, but they didn't. They did not do a competent job the second time either. After having my car in twice and proclaiming it fixed both times, I came back and took delivery of the vehicle. It was obvious there was still something wrong with the transmission. The transmission was very loud and rough shifting. At this point I just simply did not trust them to do a competent repair. Since I had moved to a new city and did not want to engage in a very time-consuming dispute, I traded in the vehicle. It's a real shame, because if they had repaired it properly I would likely still be driving it. Unfortunately, I had a new job in a new city and had just had major surgery, so I could not really deal with further incompetence. The test driver at the trade-in place said it was obvious there was something wrong with the transmission, and I got very little for the trade-in. So here's the takeaway; you get what you pay for. Transmissions 4 less may offer a very attractive price, but they do not know what they are doing, at least on Hondas, and you'll pay for it in the long run. It still burns in my craw that they took a nice 1999 Accord with years left on it and ruined it. read more

I have a '98 Honda Accord and took my car here 2 weeks ago after my hubby noticed my trans was slipping. I thought it was because maybe my foot was slipping off the gas pedal, oops! lol. anywhoo.. we looked around and found that this was by far the best deal. For my car everyone was charging over $2,000. Ridulous! Although i still feel $1300 is still a lot of money.. from what i hear for a transmission that's cheap. I have had no problems since, and they also give you a warranty, After 7 days they tell you bring you car in for a check up, and then back to them in 2 months for them to refill all fluids. I came to this place to swap faulty engine on my VW 08 Passat and haven't regret. First of all that is the only shop that allowed me to bring my own engine to install, not that they will find for me, so I saved a lot on that. Second, labor cost was flat and cost me 800, this is 25% cheaper then in other shops. Owner is a very nice person, he answer all your question via email fast and at almost any time. After job was done and I drove to my home on my new car with the new engine, I found that oil pan on my new engine needs to be replaced, so I returned back and they installed oil pan from my old engine for free on the same day. From contras I can mention that this place is packed sometimes, so it's increases service time. Also they dont accept credit cards at the moment I was there, only debit and cash, but may be this is not so anymore. So this place is not a 5 star of course ( how yelp suggests "Woohoo! As good as it gets!") but I'll pick a 5 star to balance all negative reviews on this page. This is because people come to this page only if there are any problems, and don't come if everything went smooth. I took my vehicle there late June. I was told the y will install and rebuild my transmission, also do an engine swap for me too. Realizing the job at hand they were trying to finish wasn't an easy task but in the weeks to come I would call just to check the status of my vehicle and no one would give me a direct answer. I would call back and someone will tell me they will give me a call back and no one never did. After three attempts and TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Trying to reach someone I took it upon myself to pay them a visit. I was told the vehicle was finished and I can pick it up the following week a week went by and I still wasn't able to pick up my vehicle. I decided to pay them another visit to check on my vehicle, finally I was told it was finished. Drove off the lot and I noticed immediately that my vehicle was driving worse than before. LONG STORY SHORT! The transmission they rebuilt for me is missing the torque transmission converter seal!!! They didn't realize it wasn't on there!!!!i WAS LIVID AT THIS POINT!!! $2000 NOT WELL SPENT! This place IS AWFUL. The owner gives you the run arounds daily! Soooooooooo here is the update. 2 days shy of my 6 month 6 thousand mile warranty driving down the street after picking up some food my car suddenly came to a hard stop throwing my entire body forward. My engine was revving but my car was going nowhere not even shifting gears and I could hear every kind or noise coming from my transmission you could possibly imagine. So I called transmissions for less and they tell me that since my miles were over 6000 that my warranty was expired and I needed to purchase another rebuild for $1700 and apparently couldn't even find my paperwork in their files go figure they also told me they couldn't give me a tow to their shop but said they would work out a deal with me if I did decide to get a rebuild of course I wasn't I thought at this point I would get my own transmission and have them just put it in for the $600 they offered me for that but then I thought they might purposely defect that transmission just to try and get me back in their shop 6 months later. screw this place screw their offers and cheap prices and bogus warranties if the job was done right the first time there should have been no reason for a brand new rebuilt transmission to fail again 2 days shy of 6 months.Thank god I wasn't on the expressway in the fast lane as I usually am driving back and forth to work everyday I could have died the way my car just stopped moving it literally felt and sounded like my transmission fell out the bottom of the car. read more

I have been using internet for more than 15 years now. I have never given any reviews to anything/any business. I am forced to review these guys today. I was looking for a zero star or negative one but couldn't find and have to stick with 1 star :( I have been to them once before 2 years ago when they were located in Elston. This time I gave my car on the 16th June. Initially, the lady on the reception said it will take a week to get it fixed. Then, I spoke to the manager explaining my situation for the need of the car and he promised that it will be ready on the 19th June end of business. So, I called them on the 19th around noon to check if its ready and the lady said, its not ready yet and will be tomorrow. From then on I started calling daily to see if it will be ready and I was keep getting the same answer that it will be ready tomorrow. I was asking the lady if I could talk to the manager and I will be put on hold for about 5-10 mins and then will get an answer saying that he is busy with the customers and cannot talk. Few times, they said the manager will call me back and that never happened. It was almost more than a week passed and nothing changed. Obviously, I got frustrated and one day I told the lady over the phone that I NEED to talk to the manager and don't mind holding the line. I was on hold for 35 MINUTES and Guess what? I got the same answer that he is busy with customer and cannot talk. The next day I called and was on hold for almost 15 MINS and got the same answer that the manager is busy with other customer. I told the lady what kind of ridiculous customer service you are doing? Why can't he spend at least 1 minute and come and talk to me over the phone and the answer I got was that he is with customer and cannot come. So, I told them am I not his customer? and I got a brief pause as the answer. Anyway, this continued for another week of struggle for me to get the answer when the car would be ready. They said it would be ready on the 29th and I call them on the afternoon of 29th and the answer was it's not ready yet and after much struggle I got the car on the 3rd of July. My biggest frustration is the level of importance/service they give to the customer is absolutely ridiculous/bizzare/outrageous. You would expect at least that the guy would come and talk to apologize for all the inconvenience. But nothing. Well, I shouldn't expect that from these guys. Rebuttal to the owners update: The owners is completely wrong, I was not the one with the expedition. My trans had almost 100k miles on it and was barely slipping. I have young kids and figured I should get it fixed rather then take a chance of getting stranded. I put less than 6k miles on the "rebuilt" transmission and it started slipping to the point it was no longer driveable. I should have either left it alone or taken it to a real shop for a real repair. Please, please don't go to this shop. Do your homework and read the other reviews. I can't begin to thank transmissions for less right down the street from my business for the wonderful, courteous and professional service on my Mercedes that I generally only take to the dealer. I'm so glad I didn't this time! The car shifts better than when it was new, I swear it's true! This not a place with guys in spotless white shirts taking your order. The facts are the prices are pretty much cheaper than every one else but keep 1 thing in mind u get what u pay for! I'm going to try and keep this short and simple. Horrible customer service, the lady was ghetto and didn't care about how she talked and treated customers. Had my suv 2 weeks before even bringing into shop to start on it. Had truck 2 and a half more weeks before claiming it was done. Picked up and drove home with no issues, then went back out to store and while getting ready to cross the street I pressed gas pedal and nothing, had to push the damn thing to the side of the road. Called in, had towed back to shop and they refused to reimburse towing charge! 2 weeks later picked up again drove it home and it drove pretty good no slipping or nothing. This place is a rip-off. They rebuilt my transmission and put a "new" transmission computer sensor in my car for $750. I had to drive downstate and my car became unsafe to continue driving. I had to have it towed to a repair shop and they said the sensor that Transmissions 4 Less put in my car was used and did not work. My car is still being repaired and when I went to talk to the owner at Transmission 4 Less, he would not listen to me and flat out refused to give me any money back. I took my son's car in to get a rebuilt transmission that I paid $1650.00 the same month the warranty was suppose to end my car starting doing the same thing and they told me to bring the car back in. Took the car in and they then say it's something inside of the transmission and it will be another $1000.00. I then took my car to another transmission shop and they told me that the transmission was never rebuilt, he spray painted it and it needs to be replaced. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. I was given a quote by the owner and informed that my truck (repair: transmission with radiator) would be ready in a few days. After 1 week, I had to call to check on the status of my vehicle. The owner, Salim, stated that my vehicle would be ready the next day (Tuesday). I never heard any news back until I called on Friday!! The receptionist informed me that I would require additional parts and work to my truck. Huh???? How when it was supposed to be ready for pickup on Tuesday and today is Friday. This basically means that I was lied to and my truck was NEVER assessed to begin with. Now I am without a vehicle for approximately a month. When picking up my truck, it had to be jumped because it had been sitting for a week in the cold. I requested my money back and to speak Salim regarding the misinformation provided. He NEVER came to speak to me, no apology, and no customer service recovery as a business owner. Used to work for Salim when he was at his previous location. All employees were required to do the bare minimum on labor to turn over cars as quickly as possible. 90% of parts were removed from a stash of used transmissions in the back, I had first hand experiences when techs would cut corner after corner.
