    The lanes
    Nathan H.

We decided to go bowling on our children's winter break. So we booked a lane for one hour on a Wednesday afternoon. The girl at the register said it would be $87 dollars. We were blown away by how pricey it was. But played our two games we fit within an hour. Mind you we took no breaks or relaxed just bowled to make the 1 hour time. Something didn't seem right so I called the alley after the fact. Come to find out I was charged per game not for the hour. This should have been conveyed to me at the time of checkout. I called and spoke to Henry Poole who made everything right. He apologized and advised me that per game is more expensive than just the hour. It ended up being a $30+ difference. So here is some advice to anyone that's not an experienced bowler pay for the hour get there before your time pick out a ball and get your shoes. I was a bit angry about the experience but Henry resolved that it. Bathrooms were clean.

I met up with a few friends and decided to go bowling for my birthday. I haven't been bowling since before COVID. I was pleasantly surprised and happy to see how awesome this bowling alley has changed for the better. Everything looks and feels brand new. There is fun lighting, updated scorekeepers, TVs, and comfortable benches and seats. It felt like a brand new volley alley from the last time I was here. The ball return was super fast, the machines never had an issue with the five of us bowling on the lane. The bathrooms were super clean and very updated. Overall, this was a great birthday plan and it was so much fun. We will definitely be coming back way more often.

Fun night bowling with a couple friends on Friday night. Places was busy, we had to wait until 9:30 in order to get a lane because they have league going at 7. Went there at 9:30 and made it in the line. Friday night at starting at 10 is comic night, where all lights are turned off and neon lights are on. Prices were decent for games and rental. Great atmosphere and chill. We played 3 games and lasted for a couple hours. Overall, nice bowling place around Buffalo.

Even with the bumper up one kid got the ball on top of the bumper! So funny!

Great time for kids at my daughter's birthday bowling party! The assigned "Hostess" was attentive and friendly. They knocked off the price for 1 guest as one of the Lanes had continuous problems and slowed down the kids from enjoying bowling. I'm glad they offered this - good customer service. Pizza was yummy. Balloon decoration with bowling pin to take home (guests write a message on the pin) makes for a nice memory. Fun for kids. In 2 hours all done. No cleaning up for Mom! And no hearing "I'm bored." Or "nobody wants to play what I want to do." No complaints. Kids had 1.5 hrs bowling, rest of time ate pizza, cupcakes from home and opened gifts.

Good bowling experience. Lanes have electronic score boards that are easy to use. Plenty of lane balls available if you don't have your own.

We ended up having a fantastic time, and I was really happy with how the party went. The man who booked it for us, I think the owner, was really nice and helpful and in the booking process. I was extra happy when, after I picked a package and gave him a number of people, he allowed me to only pay for the food of the people not bowling despite the package being a set price for food, bowling, and shoes. I expected to pay a flat rate for all, despite my parents not wanting to bowl, so I thought it was kind that he didn't have me pay for them for bowling. The party went off without a hitch! Everyone got shoes and they put us in a couple lanes on the side of the alley so it was more private. They also dimmed the lights so we got to have midnight bowling. Our food package included pizza, wings, salad, and pop. I also added on some nachos and fries, and I was able to have a tab at the bar for pitchers of beer. Speaking of the beer, they had a wide selection of them available for pitchers, including many local and some hard cider! The food was set up right behind the lanes for us so we didn't even need to leave them to eat. I wouldn't expect a bowling alley to have really good food, but we all loved it and my family, often picky about wings, were raving about them. Overall, the experience was lots of fun, prices very reasonable, and friendly and helpful staff. Best part - the 90s playlist they had playing throughout, giving us the most fun nostalgia boost!! If you are looking to have a great time for a party, I recommend!!

He was quickly corrected by a woman and then he said begrudgingly, "Oh...we already oiled the lanes. I forgot. You can stay." Nice. Then we had a machine that wouldn't reset our names and scores because it was acting wonky. My husband went up. He told him, "Hit reset." So...we did. 3x. No dice. So I went up. Do some bowling Wednesday , work two more days and boom it's the weekend. But as much as bowling helps move the week along. It has also taught me to control my temper and not kick, scream profanity or get into fights and throw things. It's bowling. It's a league that is named after a close friend of my neighbor who was also a person that many people on the league knew. My teammates are each a story in themselves. Representing Buffalo. The best neighbors anyone could ever hope for. We laugh - we have a few drinks- I try to bowl, I don't understand the handicap thing and i support my team with more enthusiasm then number of pins I knock down. So if it's only bowling why is it five stars? Simple - cosmetically- the facility is in the process of being upgraded with a focus around the bar area. Sue has brought her touch that in time will work it's way everywhere that it can with out interfering with the fact that it's bowling. It's not the IMAX not a roller coaster. You don't wear it on your face or have to plug it in. It's bowling. But the food. As the name of the business changed so did the cook, so did the menu, and so did the opportunity to try some very tasty staples along with some excellent variations of fan favorites. The fried Bologna is simple but done right. Like it's supposed to be. Quesadillas are enough for everyone to get a piece - and they are not only large but good. Everything always tastes fresh. It's a total mind melt when you realize that this is coming from a bowling alley. Had a Ruben. Home run. I mean really good. There are these house made chips- they are great. Thin but not drowning in oil- try the barbecue ones. The wings are a consistent solid 10 outta 10. My teammates and I have done our fair share of sauces but we keep coming back to the sweet chili. Wings are cooked right - sized right and sauced right. Other flavors have always been good but the sweet chili is the one we agree on the most as the best. The menu says DINE in for the after 9pm deal but I have seen people picking them up so I think you can call on and get the deal. It's bowling. It's great people. It's a bar. It's some really good food. The bowling alley has recently changed hands and with a kitchen like that, bowling is a lot more fun. There's wood floor and rental shoes and oil and all those things that make bowling, bowling. Try the food.

AMF Airport Lanes in Cheektowaga feels like someone took a perfectly serviceable neighborhood…read morebowling alley, handed it to a private-equity consultant, and asked, "How can we make this more expensive, less pleasant, and vaguely resemble an abandoned Dave & Buster's?" Bowling alleys used to be honest institutions. You entered a windowless building that smelled like lane oil, cigarettes absorbed during the Clinton administration, and fryer grease of uncertain provenance. You paid a reasonable amount of money, rented shoes last disinfected during the Carter administration, bought a pitcher of domestic beer, and bowled. Nobody demanded your email address. Nobody tried to enroll you in a "rewards experience." The scoring screen displayed your score instead of repeatedly suggesting that you purchase a mozzarella-based appetizer. Now the entire place radiates corporate enshittification. Everything has been "enhanced," "streamlined," and "reimagined," which means the lights are darker, the music is louder, the prices are higher, and there are fewer employees available to explain why your lane has stopped working. The bowling itself--the actual reason the building exists--feels almost incidental, like an inconvenient legacy feature that management has not yet figured out how to replace with a subscription. You can practically see the consultants' PowerPoint deck: convert community recreation into a "premium social entertainment experience"; replace straightforward pricing with packages; make every surface glow blue; rename ordinary food; extract the maximum possible revenue from each person before the lane malfunctions. A cheeseburger is no longer a cheeseburger. It is an "artisan lane-side dining experience," apparently assembled from the same Sysco ingredients but now priced like it received an undergraduate degree. And this is Airport Lanes in Cheektowaga--not a rooftop nightclub in Manhattan. I should not need to consult a financial adviser before taking two people bowling near Genesee Street. This is supposed to be the democratic beauty of bowling: a sport equally accessible to serious league bowlers, families with children, intoxicated coworkers, and people who throw the ball with both hands and somehow score 170. It should not feel like surge-priced recreation administered by an airport concessionaire. The saddest part is that the bones of the old bowling alley are still visible underneath all the corporate lacquer. You can sense that this was once a genuine local gathering place: leagues, birthday parties, cheap beer, elderly men with personalized balls, and regulars who knew exactly which lane had a slight pull to the left. That culture still exists, but now it has been trapped inside a glowing corporate shell designed to monetize "fun" in fifteen-minute increments. This is the lifecycle of everything now. A normal business develops a loyal customer base by providing a decent service at a fair price. A corporation acquires it, centralizes everything, fires or underpays the people who understood the place, raises prices, introduces an app, degrades the core product, and then acts bewildered when customers stop coming. Eventually, management announces another "bold transformation," which invariably involves fewer employees, more screens, and a new fee. I do not need AMF Airport Lanes to be an immersive entertainment destination. I need it to be a bowling alley. Turn on the lanes. Maintain the equipment. Charge a sane price. Serve cold beer and edible fried food. Let Cheektowaga bowl in peace. Not every human activity needs to be converted into a frictionless, data-driven revenue funnel managed from a corporate office in another state.
