My daughter had just been discharged from the hospital on September 19 after spending a week there going through detox from fentanyl. On September 20, she became extremely sick again. She was vomiting very badly and was visibly very ill, so I took her to Hendricks Regional because I was concerned about her condition and wanted her evaluated. When we arrived, her blood pressure was taken and recorded as 114/120. She was then taken to a room, but after that, we were left waiting without any explanation about when someone would come in to evaluate her. Because my daughter was so sick and vomiting severely, I asked the nurse how long it would take for the nurse or the doctor to come see her. The nurse stated that the doctor had other patients and that there was no turnaround time for when the doctor would come in. At that point, after seeing how sick my daughter was and not knowing how long we would be waiting, we decided to leave and seek care at Community East. Before we left, the nurse asked where my daughter and I were going. I told her that because Hendricks Regional was so busy and we did not know how long we would have to wait, we had decided to go to Community East instead. Her response was simply, "Okay," in a manner that came across as dismissive, as though it did not matter that we were leaving with a very sick patient. As a mother, this was extremely concerning and upsetting. My daughter had just gone through a week of detox from fentanyl, had only been home for one day, was vomiting severely, was very sick, and had returned to the emergency department because she needed medical attention. I expected her condition to be taken seriously and for someone to communicate with us about what was happening. I am also African American, and I cannot ignore the fact that experiences like this can leave patients and families questioning whether they are receiving the same level of urgency and consideration as other patients. I am not making an accusation that I cannot prove, but the experience made me uncomfortable and concerned enough that I feel it needs to be addressed. Patients and their families deserve communication, compassion, and appropriate medical attention--especially when someone has recently gone through detox and returns to the hospital extremely sick. I hope Hendricks Regional will review what happened, including the triage process, the communication from staff, and why my daughter was left waiting without being evaluated despite how sick she was.

It turns out it may be a double entendre as it is Dr Moody's optometry one stop shop. Located on the first floor of the Saleforce Tower in the heart of Downtown Indy, Moody Eyes is an affordable destination for purchasing glasses with lots of great options to choose from. We've been coming here for many years now and much prefer it to Lens Crafters and the other pricey alternatives. Dr Moody himself is such a kind man with a great sense of humor and I dread the day he retires. I don't want to go anywhere else! After looking at some frames i was told that with my "you have amazing vision insurance", I would still be required to pay nearly $100 for just a pair of single prescrition glasses. I then asked for a cheaper alternative and was told that i wouldnt be saving much money by doing so. I was then reasured how good my insurance was and how good of a deal I was getting. After several minutes of being intimidated by who I assume is Mrs. Moody, I then calmly explained how I normally do not pay for frames at the place I had previously gone. She responded with a look and tone that I can only describe as "unnecessary" and asked "well why didn't you go there then'? She was not nice, she absolutely meant it to be rude. I then said that I would not be getting glasses today and that i just want to pay for my visit. "Ten Dollars" are the only words she says next and I quietly handed her my payment, asked for my prescription to which she says "well we aren't going to give you measurements", which i replied with silence. I then proceeded to leave while promising never to return. I have never been treated so poorly by someone at a doctors office. I want to believe that I took things out of context or the wrong way but body language and tone said everything. As if they are angry because I can not afford their overpriced Luxottica frames... I will take my "had to do a double take your insurance was so good" and go somewhere better.

If you want your loved one to be treated with respect, dignity, and appropriate care this is NOT…read morethe place. Fact, I visit my loved one at least every 3-4 days. Each time I am emptying and cleaning the bedside commode filled with urine and feces, table tops, bed anything my loved one is touching in the room. My love one bed covers and clothes smell of urine, why because she does not have the disposable underpants available in the room. They accuse her of not asking however, I have asked on a Thursday and have gone back on Sunday and still none where available in the room. I asked again and waited for them; this time I was given the correct size. My loved one stores her soiled clothes hidden in drawers and stuffed behind her bed. She attempts to wash her clothes in the sink because it's embarrassing for her when she soils her clothes or bedding because she has no supplies, I have had to ask for toilet paper. This place ignores patients calls for help for long periods of time. My loved room partner called for help several times; the help light was flashing above the door. An outside health worker (that was visiting my loved one) went seeking help down the hall at the nurse's station, however no one was around, in the meantime the patient began to get up (wheelchair dependent). After a while I went to seek help, no one was in the hall. After some time, I saw a staff member walk passed the room I went out to tell her, and she said I'll be in in a minute. I had told her the patient had got out of the bed. She enters the room telling the patient she should not be out of bed on her own. This was very concerning to me because the patient had time to pull herself up out of bed and was holding on to her dining tray. 15-20 may not sound like much time but she could have fallen and hurt herself seriously. Not addressing or forgetting to assist patients' needs is unacceptable. I have had to ask for OTC pain medicine (topical) for my loved one and have applied it myself because my loved one was forgotten or staff had not had the time to address the request, my longest wait was an hour and a half, too long. This is just a few of the reason why patients' well-beings are being compromised. You have to be an on-site advocate for your loved one to get any help. I feel sorry for patients who have no one to advocate for them while they are in this place. THINK TWICE BEFORE PUTTING YOUR LOVED ONE IN THIS INSTITUTION. Treating every person with respect, compassion, and empathy, recognizing their inherent worth, autonomy, and individuality, regardless of health status, age, or dependency level is NOT happening with my loved one and other patients at the institution.
