My appointment was for 10am on a Wednesday. I arrived about 15 minutes early, as accustomed to many other spa treatments I've had, in order to fill out paperwork, etc. Amy had not yet arrived. I sat awkwardly in a makeshift waiting area and finally sent her a text to let her know I had arrived as it neared 10am. She arrived an began scurrying around the place turning on music, lights, etc. I completed the paperwork and we discussed what I was needing. Let's just say it was the most unrelaxing massage I've ever had. It was chaos. She would move all around instead of focusing on one side of my body and then the other, as all of my other massages had been like. It just wasn't what I was looking for and if I had paid more than my Groupon price, I would have been even more disappointed.

I have the feeling that I will not have a massage that can live up too well to Amy's technique! What to expect: The business is located within a building, in a single room, where outside there is an arm chair, a coffee/tea bar, and a table set up with an arrangement of different spiritual and holistically therapeutic artifacts, including a few flags that describe various chakras. The room itself has a sign to let you know when there's a client in session, and there is also a very cool, large bell to ring for assistance. It might look a little odd compared to places like Massage Envy, but don't let that deter you. Her rates are very reasonable. Groupon afforded me $30 for a 60-minute session, and the regular price is $65, which is a typical rate. And, during the month of your birthday, your massage costs only $40! Pretty cool. Natural Recovery Massage also offers very competitive self-pay rates as well, if you don't have insurance. The chiropractic office handles scheduling and payment. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and their system utilizes automated texts for appointment reminders. Interacting with them is always friendly and efficient. There's a small waiting room for the massage area; I can't tell for sure how many LMTs they have working but I think it's probably like 3-4? I chose one and have stuck with them, but in listening to others make their appointments, it sounds like they all are wonderful; most people find a favorite and stick with them. The LMT I see has been with the clinic for a long time (8 years, I think), and that longevity and consistency says a lot. Treatment rooms are a nice mix between spa-frou-frou and clinical, always cool and comfortable with nice sturdy tables with warmers. I've been a 1-2 times a month client since January or so. I'd recommend them -- and others would as well, as they were a winner in the Best of Mid Valley this year. My only complaint is he is supposed to get massages along with his chiro but the massage place is always booked so he rarely gets them. Technically the massage place is a different business but it's all owned by the same person and they work hand in hand. Most providers in Salem were very good, BUT they were NOT "Annie" at Happy Holiday, and who's care and ministrations are decidedly ~extraordinary~. Sure, my back scar was a pretty obvious source of pain and stiffness, but Annie's fingers worked their magic as she seemed to know intrinsically where my problems emanated from. She gently worked the soft tissues with great tenderness but in the full scope stiffened her resolve to include my deep tissue issues and the relaxation of my whole being. On my drive home I was fully satisfied and happily content. I've been going to her whenever possible for over a year now and will continue to seek relief with her for as long as possible.
