We have a place in the area where we live part time nearby the Albany Lodge. On rare occasion we head in for dinner or drinks. We know not to expect much...the food is just ok and always way overpriced. This last visit was the worst. We were never waited on, after seating ourselves per the 'seat your self sign'. Some little scrawny guy got our drinks for us and then wandered to other tables and talk about himself nonstop! Waited for about 30 minutes and mini man couldn't seem to make his way back to our table. We left, without paying for our drinks since we couldn't get service. Met a lady out in the parking lot who was waiting for her pizza that she ordered 'over an hour ago'. It's the only place for many miles so I guess they can have bad service and mediocre food with stupid high prices...if you can get service! read more

For us, Albany Lodge was a place to get lunch and gas, the midpoint of a day that began and ended in Ryan Park. The "Lumberjack" burrito I had was awesome except for one important aspect: the tortilla was really tough (dried out). My kids got sandwiches that were fine but unremarkable. Our waitress was nice, and did a nice job. It was good to be able to thaw out before continuing our ride. read more

We come to this lodge every year and this was our absolute worst experience. We went down to the restaraunt for dinner waited 20 minutes without being greeted or having a server come to our table. We went up the bar to get drinks and was told we could order food while there. So we ordered our meal. After 30 minutes still no waitress came to our table so I went back up to the bar and was told, "your food is being cooked, we are short staffed and will bring it out when it's ready." I went back up to the bar again 15 minutes after that requesting an update. I was told by the gal behind the bar she would personally check on it and come to our table to give us an update. After 15 more minutes (an hour and a half total of seeing no waitress or staff at our table,) I went back up to the bar and was told "your waitress will bring it to your table when it's ready." Again related we had no waitress or received no service over the past 1.5 hours and the restaraunt was now closed. They said they would check the kitchen and get back to me. I said I will wait at the bar while you check. Two staff members come back about 8 minutes later and say "the cook thought your order was a duplicate so they didn't cook it." Which makes no sense as we were literally the only people with kids in there. By then my child is grabbing left over food off of peoples plates left at the bar because he was so hungry. They said they would cook our food and bring out asap. A waitress brought us food and profusely apologized and said she would be back shortly to check on us and refill our drinks. Not surprisingly, she never came back, no one did. So again we went up to the bar and just requested our checks to leave as it was now 9:30pm at night. A waitress checked us out charging us full price. I requested a discount for the delay and complete disregard for any service that we did not receive. However; I was informed you got your food, so you pay for it, we are sorry. This was our worst experience there and we plan to stay at fox park moving forward. read more

I don't really want to give 5 stars because, selfishly I dont want to have trouble finding a reservation when we come back. This place is truly wonderful. We came with 2 other couples to ride our atvs. We actually had snow (June 23) so it was hard to get out too often. Our room is comfortable (I do wish I had better pillows, but that's my only complaint). The restaurant was great, the servers were wonderful, service was great and the food was super yummy. The hospitality was great and we will be back read more

We stopped for lunch. Opted to order appetizers. We had fried mushrooms, soft pretzels and hot wings. The pretzels were delicious with a good cheese sauce. The mushrooms were nothing fancy but they were hot and delicious. The wings would have been better had they not been swimming in sauce. My husband actually wiped sauce off of the last two wings at the bottom of the basket. If they were fried before being sauced you wouldn't know it. Don't get the iced tea, this is one of the places that serves it fresh from the soda fountain, yucky aftertaste and all. read more

My wife and I spent 5 days there for our 25th wedding anniversary back in July. What an amazing place!! The owners and staff are fantastic! Go get yourself a room or a cabin, rent yourself a UTV and get away from it all! If you have to work they do have Wi-Fi which worked fantastic for me. Don't forget your fishing poles, there are several great places to drop a line and if you do forget anything the general store they have on site will likely have it and if by chance they don't, Laramie is only 30 miles down the road. If you don't feel like cooking the restaurant on site has great food and a full bar. I can't wait to go back! Next time it will be when there is snow on the ground so I can rent a snowmobile and hit the trails. Thank you making our anniversary trip a very memorable!! read more

This place is very unprofessional I wish they would right the wrongs they've made claiming the sled is totaled so they can scam their customers. read more

We went snowmobiling for a work trip. I was very excited cause I have never been snowmobiling before. This was one of the worst experiences that I have ever had regarding rentals. My group and I went riding on the trail about 20 miles out and we were a little over an hour into our day. I took the sled no more than 50 feet off the trail and it broke down. Since there was no way to contact the rental place, and there was only one person in the group that knew the directions back, we left the sled there and continued our journey. For my first snowmobiling trip I had to ride tandem most of the trip. When we got back into the rental shop, the staff was surprised that I did not bring it back and told me they would contact me the next day. When I received the call, they charged me for my sled $220 for the day (1.5hours) and charged me $500 for the vehicle breaking down. They were kind enough to not charge for the $400 retrieval fee. I guess it is too much to ask for a rental shop to ensure their snowmobiles work. I would only rent from here if you are an experienced mechanic, or if you are willing to take the risk of a potential $1000+ rental. BTW enjoy talking with the staff. read more

DO NOT RENT ANYTHING!!!! I took a group of 5 of us up to rent and ride at Albany lodge and was ripped off 5,000 dollars and ended up buying the sled that my friend broke for 11,000 dollars to hopefully break even. We were riding and stopped to check the map at a crossroads. My friend was in front of me and slowly backed into my sled which popped my seat off and busted the bar under the seat. I thinking the bar is like 40 bucks no big deal we strapped the seat back on ride hours more and took the sleds back at 5pm. The mechanic and the owner came to check out the sleds and said my sled was totaled. I was thinking 500 bucks for a deductible that's no big deal, well yes you have to pay the 500 plus they made me pay for 2 weeks of them working on the machine which they say they lose, which was another 4,480 dollars. So a total 4,980 dollars. My friend that barely hit it is in the military and doesn't make enough money to cover that so the owner and mechanic pressured me into covering it for him. I'll be uploading receipts and pictures of the damage so everyone can see. Their insurance definitely should have covered that and if not if you don't want to risk paying 5,000 for a small mistake DO NOT GO HERE. I've rented from other places and had someone in my party total a sled and max it was the deductible 500 bucks. They took advantage of my military friend and I. Instead of taking a 5,000 dollar hit for nothing the owner said I could buy the machine for 11,000. Hoping I can sell it and maybe only loose a grand or two. Also the owner David isn't supposed to sell me the machine til March 15 2020 since it's a Polaris snow check and Polaris doesn't allow it but I have it in my possession and will be calling Polaris to see how much they appreciate him breaking their rules. I'll add pictures of the machine and bill of sale. And I will be having all the guys I was with leave reviews and all my friends and family. Maybe the owner will try to make this right. read more

We've given this place a few tries over the years and it just gets worse and worse. The service is terrible, the food tastes frozen and uninspired at best, and terrible at worst, and the rooms are vastly overpriced for the outdated mess that they are (we've tried hotel and cabins--they are both ridiculously overpriced and ridiculously out of date). Just go somewhere, anywhere, else. read more

This is truly one of the most catfishing places I have ever been to. I wanted some privacy and a break from the word so I decided to stay in the "hideaway cabin." Although it does have a private entrance, that is the only private thing about it. It is located directly below another cabin where all the employees stay. Throughout the night you hear creaking and footsteps, making it hard to get a goodnight sleep. The road is not plowed and I was forced to park on a snowy hill. The first night I stayed there I decided to go up to the lodge and get some dinner, the service was awful and seemed more like a bar than a diner and was filled with drunks. The food was Mediocre but took me 45 minutes to simply get a basket of chicken strips. There was 1 polite employee throughout the entire establishment, and even though I did get the opportunity to meet the boss, I was met with attitude and spite. The cabin was small and very bare bones. Minimal cooking utensils. I expected for it to have a fire place due to the harsh winters. This was not the case, all that was provided was a thermostat with settings up to only 75 F. Due to most people wanting to come to this "lodge" to go out and explore the wilderness, there is no place to warm up after. This cabin also has no service, so don't expect to be able to receive and or send text messages. Overall, I wish I could give this place a 0 star review because it is not somewhere that I will ever even consider staying again, and hope that the administration will read this and make improvements. read more

This place was great. We came to stay at the Lodge and do some sledding. Having a restaurant on site was a major bonus. That restaurant cranking out tasty food for hungry lodgers... nothing short of rhapsody. I think it's been about 15 years since I've eaten at a place that includes a soup and salad bar with a dinner entree. I miss that aspect of dining. The salad bar was pretty good. It wasn't just iceberg lettuce and dressings. They offered mushrooms, tomatoes, hard boiled eggs, ham, etc. to top over a Spring mix. I heard a rowdy bunch laughing that the vegetable beef stew was Dinty Moore. Good thing the cook didn't hear that! My guess is the soup was a concoction of steaks and veggies that don't get sold from the previous night. Personally I like a restaurant that does this. It's resourceful. And getting huge chunks of ribeye and NY Strip in a have-at-it soup is my idea of good eats. That kind of resourcefulness leads to prime rib sandwiches on Sundays after Prime Rib special Saturday nights. Good on them. I went with a chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. It was pretty good. The potatoes had a smokey? flavor that was interesting. My wife got the Salisbury steak special. That was a monster beef patty for sure, and the brown gravy was a win. The atmosphere is what you would expect at a lodge. Lots of boisterous groups of mostly guys enjoying their active vacation. The waitresses are friendly and really know how to handle a table of ten outgoing dudes or a quiet table for two. All for the food and drinks are priced right. For being 30 miles out of civilization, the Albany Lodge isn't out to gouge your wallet. It's well worth a visit. read more

**** NOTE - this happened in 2010 I believe, a long time ago, but the incident was such a bad experience I need to share. If you don't plan to rent 4x4 toys from them then ignore this and give them the benefit if the doubt, maybe they have changed the place. ****** I've been waiting for this place to pop up on Yelp, and I'm glad it did so I can warn folks. First of all this place is the only "hotel" for many, many miles so if you wind up here it's probably too late to go anywhere else, and I'm sorry. Anyway, the place is basically a bare bones hunting camp with a liquor license that wants to grow up and be a real resort someday. In 50 years maybe, for now, it's just sad like visiting your redneck cousins who say they are rich, but all they have is the only double-wide trailer in the park. I can really only speak to the cabins which look like the last guests left in body bags. Now if the ground floor of the main building is any reflection of the 'hotel' rooms quality - think of a Leningrad apartment complex built in 1974 and you'll be close - dont expect much from them either. But enough about the cabins, what I want to review mostly is the tragedy/scam nightmare we experienced when renting a side by side Polaris Razor. Long story short, my girlfriend wrecked it and I had to pay them $9,000 cash immediately for the Razor, and as I was sprinting for the car to take my lady to the ER in Denver they had me over a barrel. This would have been unpleasant, but we destroyed it and there was no insurance available to cover such an incident, they told me of the risk and I accepted it, but that's not the end. A month later I took the Razor to a repair guyCollins to replace the radiator and repair the cracked body parts so I could drive my $9,000 side by side. What I learned then was that this Razor had been wrecked very badly before I even got in it. The frame had been twisted so badly previously, that while my damage to the radiator had knocked it out of commission, it couldn't be repaired safely. Ever. No money could fix it. These guys made me pay for a brand new Razor for their already crippled unit (the previous damage may even have been what caused our accident) and they hid this from me. This was years ago, not long after I left the country for two years, and my window to sue them closed quickly. That's life, they won, but I'm telling my story to anyone who will listen. If they are still renting these toys, don't be an idiot like me -- walk away if they don't sell an insurance policy, it ain't worth it. read more

Super place! Great staff, EVERY YEAR!!! Thank you for your support for the firefighters!

Save your money and your happiness - rent machines elsewhere. The folks who run the rental area - one of them in particular - is extremely rude and has no patience to hear a full story. I have had issues with him every time we rent from them - 5 years in a row. This will be our last though. We had a previously damaged unit (unknown to us - and probably to them - because they cannot look at every clutch in their rental fleet each day) that we may have pushed over the top - but would have not happened had the unit been performing correctly. Long story short - the sled would not backshift - causing the belt to slip and ultimately wound up grinding the primary clutch. I am going to use my experience here (about 20 years of snowmobiling) and say that there is no way we could have damaged the clutch that much in as short a time as we were messing with it. Though it was not our fault that the clutch on the sled was faulty - we were on the hook for the damage - and a full days rental price, even though the sled broke down 1.5 hours in. Then they were mad we did not return the unit to them - though they never explained protocol on a broken down sled, nor provided tow straps, or radios, to communicate with the lodge about a faulty unit. That being said - their guides, especially Austin, are great. I would avoid renting from these yahoos, but if you have sleds and are looking for someone to show you around a beautiful area - this would be a good option. read more

The new owner is making some great changes. He is very friendly and we enjoyed a nice conversation with him the last time we stopped for dinner. The food and drinks were great and they did everything possible to make sure it was just perfect. They are in the process of revamping the menu and adding some new dishes which we look forward to trying. We enjoy the rustic atmosphere. So since the new ownership has taken over some things are improved. Rentals for one thing. But this review is based solely on our tries to have food in the restaurant. We go up camping several times a year and usually come down to the lodge once a trip to eat and not do dishes. On our first visit this year we went for breakfast. Over 1.5 hours wait for out food. So no big deal we are up to relax. However over the Labor Day holiday it was so bad several people left without ever talking to an employee. We waited like idiots for over an hour only to be informed that our waiter had lost our ticket and had never entered our order. Well after seeing the nightmare that was doing the work in the kitchen we declined to wait another out for food. Horrible horrible horrible is the only thing I can post here that doesn't use words not suitable for children. The entire restaurant needs a makeover when it comes to employees. read more

HORRIBLE experience, We stayed a weekend there in July of 2018. We belong to many 4 wheels drive and off road clubs in Colorado and were looking at the Albany area for new trails for our groups to explore. We booked a Friday and Sat night in the small cabin at Albany. The Friday night was ok. We woke up Sat morning to their owner and crew setting up large circus size tents 10 feet from our cabin door. We were told they were having a wedding there that day and we were asked to move our vehicle as the walk way to the wedding was in front of our cabin. We had no problem with that. We left for the day of off roading. When we returned at approx. 7pm. We found other cars parked in front of our cabin, loud music and about 300 people all within 20 feet of our cabin door. We asked the staff how long this was going to go on and were assured it would be over by 10pm. At 1015pm the music was still blaring and my wife had enough. She went to the office/restaurant and pointed out the time. The music stopped shortly after but the crowd of drunk, loud and belligerent people continued on until aprox 1-2am right outside our door and on our porch. The next morning upon our check out I asked to speak to the owner. A short grey haired older man came out and stated that he was the old owner as they are in the middle of changing ownership. As I started to explain my issue with the previous night, he butted in and told me that I was lying and that everything was quiet by 10pm. I then pointed out to him that he was incorrect as my wife had to tell their staff to turn the music off at 1015pm and that she was really upset about it. I then tried to explain the continued loud drunk people that we dealt with. He then said " what should we have done? stop the wedding just for you?". I replied ," NO. but you could have advised us when we made our reservation 2 weeks prior that there was a wedding planned right outside the cabin you just rented for $300" At that point the man threw his hand up in my face and said" just leave!" The next week we tried at least 4 times to call the new owner to tell him our experience. We were told that he was in Cheyenne, then twice in Texas, then finally just not available. Our opinion is, this place will tell you anything to get your money and they do not care about your stay or any of your concerns after you have paid. Needless to say, we gave our review to the 4wd and off road clubs that we belong to and advised them of our experience. We will never be back there again and we highly suggest simply driving about 1 mile further up the road and camping for free in the national forest. read more

Unfortunately due to Covid risks, we needed to cancel our lodging reservations for this year. I had no idea it would be so difficult to accomplish this. My first call went right to voicemail. My second was finally answered and I was asked if I could hold so the woman that answered my call could serve tables first, and I agreed. I was on hold for nearly 15 minutes before I was disconnected. I called again, was put on hold, again "so I can get to my computer up front". 3 minutes later the phone was answered by Jake. By this time I'm just thoroughly annoyed and was asked again to be put on hold and this time I was simply hung up on. My third call was answered by Cortney who was able to finally complete the transaction and agreed to send an email confirmation of my cancellation. This type of transaction should be able to be accomplished easily and quickly. It saddens me, I expected better from this business, it's staff and ownership. read more

We went snowmobiling for a family trip. This was the worst experience I have ever had regarding rentals. My family rented 4 sleds and looked forward to riding the trails. An hour into our day a sled had mechanical issues. My wife and daughter were thrown from the sled after the emergency stop didn't work. It would not shift to reverse to attempt to get it out and since there was no way to contact the rental place we left the sled there and started the journey back to the lodge. Once in the lobby, there was no assistance or concern for my daughter (who was in tears). They did not ask if medical attention was needed. They gave her a lollipop and went about their day. The shop staff was quick to come in with their iPads and ask for signatures of course and to fill the gas up. With my focus on my daughter I just wanted the event to be over. Little to my knowledge that 2 days later they call to inform me additional charges were needed to be paid. Fuel and a recovery fee. Are you serious? I told the guy I do not authorize any additional charges. He said ok and the owner would be in touch with me. 15 minutes later pending charges on my card were submitted. During 3 conversations there is no concern for the experience or trauma my daughter might have suffered. The conversation with the owner David was completely about what they are allowed to charge and how the machines are in perfect condition. Not once did any of the staff ask about my daughter or make any attempt to promote customer service. You would think that return customers in the rental business is what they would strive for, absolutely the opposite. Will never return and would not recommend on the rental side of the business. Risk is not worth the experience by any means. Find another place to rent. read more

I came 1st with my brother back in January for 2 days to scope Albany Lodge out for the 1st time prior to bringing 10 others for a March trip. The previous 5yrs we'd been going to the U P but decided to try something different. We did some research and found this place. We'd read some of the negative reviews but we took the chance...whoops! The 1st morning at Albany Lodge, Brad got us on our machines and personality wise he seemed a little cocky but was okay. Riding that day I put a little penny size rip in the seat and brought it to his attention the next morning, and as soon as I showed it to him he grinned and said I'd have to buy a new seat cover and it'd be about $300, I said 'really!?', and that's when a whole new Brad showed up as though the gloves were off and he was ready to fight. He said 'You broke it, you fix it, I'm not paying for it!' I asked if I could get something discounted off a full priced seat cover since I was renting for 2 days and was bringing more business potentially in March? 'Nope!' I forgave Brad's switch in demeanor because I empathize with the fact he probably was guarded because he probably often dealt with jerk customers. Yeah, it sucked to have to pay close to $300 for a seat cover, but it sucked more when Brad was neither friendly or empathetic.(Gotta pay to play!) Then there's Austin... When I met Austin for the 1st time he acted angry at me because I showed up to have oil put in the sled 1st thing in the morning and I putted slowly over from our cabin to the rental building while the red temp light was still on, 'You could blow up the motor.' I thought, okay, you probably could mention that without the attitude (I know to let a machine idle for a bit to let the oil cycle through and definitely don't rev a cold machine) My brother and I rode all that day, had a blast, and strategized for our group trip in March and ignored the questionable customer service from Austin and Brad. Then comes this past weekend, with 11 of my close friends and relatives. We show up for breakfast right at 7am when the restaurant opens and are greeted by a young red haired waitress who seems unhappy we all showed up so early. She lacked customer service qualities and came across very rude. Christin took over and she was very pleasant and knew the true meaning of customer service and understood that without customers, she wouldn't have a job. She was great! But then, unfortunately, we all got to meet unpleasant Austin at the rental place. He gave the impression the 8 of our group renting were just a pain in his ass. My brother-in-law asked about helmets and was debating whether to use the lodges or his own and at one point Austin basically said 'Use your own, use ours, do what you want, doesn't matter to me', it wasn't what he said, but how he said it. Good customer service seemed completely foreign to him. Austin didn't smile, he acted arrogant and rude the whole time he checked us out. He was rude to my father, when he asked a simple question his response was 'Don't touch that', but it wasn't said in a friendly manner. Again, it wasn't what he said but how he said it. Everyone in our group witnessed his poor attitude. We all rode off and enjoyed our day! We stayed the night and woke up and ate at the restaurant at 7am again and we were greeted by Christin who was once again great! We brought the sleds to be filled up again with oil and I didn't interact with Austin nor Brad at all, thankfully, but I still watched how Austin interacted with other customers and I never saw him crack a smile. Another gentleman at the rental department put oil in my machine. He had a dark beard, tall, wore a bandana around his neck and seemed genuinely friendly. He was a pleasure to speak with. That morning, an 11th friend joined us to rent a machine and he also noted that Austin seemed unfriendly. 2 of the 9 renting were charged for damage, $250 for a set of 'bent' handlebars (1/8" off from new) and $1100 for some light structural damage underneath from going over an exposed rock. Here are my suggestions: Brad and Austin are not doing the reputation of the owner nor the business any good. They should either be back in the kitchen or back working on the machines. They should neither be seen nor heard of by customers. They should not be anywhere around friendly, happy customers ready to spend their hard earned money for some fun. We were ready as a group to do this trip every winter and spend close to a total of $6000 for 2 days once every year. So long as Austin and Brad are employed and the owner supports their behavior at Albany Lodge I will never be back, nor will I ever recommend anyone go to Albany Lodge! They may not care that they don't see me, but someone who runs a successful business would realize the danger of bad customer service. https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/20130604134550-284615-15-statistics-that-should-change-the-business-world-but-haven-t read more
