This was a most welcome surprise on our quick pass through Centennial. Stopped for an early breakfast. It was warm and welcoming and wonderful from the moment we walked in the door. The woman taking our order was delightful -- and did a great job explaining the offerings. It has a terrifically interesting menu, so it wasn't easy. My husband and I decided to 1) begin with a lemon poppyseed scone that the lovely server told us were made that morning; and then 2) chose one savory item from the menu and one sweet -- to then share it all. So glad we did all of the above. I chose the the hash brown omelette, topped with eggs over medium; spouse chose the strawberry brioche french toast. Oh my goodness!!! This was fine dining restaurant quality. Every bite was beyond our wildest expectations. I'd be there every day if it was any closer!!! Can't wait to get back here ASAP. read more

Cafe: Best High Altitude Cooking in the West The cafe is great and the newly dedicated chef is amazing. If you're just passing by for coffee, I highly recommend trying anything on the food menu because everything is worth a taste even if you're not hungry. read more

There are places that you think you'll enjoy when you plan to stay there, but when you actually are there you wish you'd planned an even longer stay. Mountain View Hotel is just such a place. The rooms are comfortable (I assume ours was typical in that regard), the hosts -- Kat and Mike -- are genial, the food and coffee were marvelous, the views are amazing, Centennial has more character per capita than any place I can recall, and it is the gateway to the Snowy Range -- probably my favorite mountains anywhere. So, if it's along your way, or out of the way, Mountain View Hotel is a place you'll want to stay. read more

Phenomenal breakfast! Gourmet food with a great outside porch option, which is usually warm and sunny in the morning. Heddi and Dan are wonderfully accommodating and every morning they are open (Fri they Mon) we looked forward to driving down from our campsite for their coffee, omelet, pancakes and scones. Great clean room with pet friend options. Rolled into town super late and they answered the phone. Booked over the phone and were able to get in with keyless entry. Friendly town dog greeted us in the morning. Mid week everything is pretty much closed in this small town. Great little price of history to enjoy. read more

This was a neat place in centennial Wyoming, such a nice clean place with enough room and totally quiet, walking distance from great bars and restaurants the reason for the four star review is they reminded me about the 11am check out at 7 something in the morning and woke me up and then I tried to take a shower but I couldn't get it to get even warm I tried everything! I'd stay here again but I wouldn't waste my time on the shower again. read more

My husband and I went up there for the quiet beauty. And it was all that, till the next day. They charge 150.00 deposit. Well we thought no big deal. BUT They kept it. When I asked for an explanation, they said the room smelled funny and a cigarette pack in the trash. They didn't say it smelled like smoke, they couldnt. I WOULDN'T DO THAT FOR 150.00. LETS BE REAL. Now understand, we left at 6:30am. Checked out taking our stuff to the car in and out. And they probably didn't go in the room till around 9. Any smell of arthritis cream, perfumes, dog farts would have disappeared in that time. Common sense right. But before I left I got the trash out the car, thru away the left overs, folded the towels neatly on the sink and staighted the bed. Yes, there was a cigarette pack in my car( my sons who wasn't there). I smoke orange spirts. The leftover could have been smelly, onions and such. I feel they may do this often and people just except it, or don't catch it. I feel so ripped off. Centennial is a beautiful Place, this place is the only bad experience you would have there. Centennial is not a mecca of restaurants and dining experiences, especially with a population of less than 275 people. I am not even sure if that includes all those who come to stay in their second homes or if it is those who stay year-round. Either way, this little unimposing little dot on the vast landscape of Wyoming has some real gems. One of those gems is the Mountain View Historic Hotel. We did not stay at this hotel, but we visited for breakfast. The owners (and their very friendly golden retriever) were in full evidence. They were friendly and offered to make us some breakfast on what was a fairly limited breakfast selection. However, the coffee is freshly roasted and ground on the premises. Everything from the pancakes to the waffles and the omelettes are made from scratch. My wife and girls had the oatmeal, and although I do not like oatmeal, it looked and smelled fantastic. In fact, the only time I have ever eaten oatmeal that I liked was at a very expensive Bed and Breakfast in Missouri. This oatmeal was just as good. My egg omelette was just about perfect and was loaded with Swiss cheese and mushrooms. One day we will stay at the hotel as well and probably enjoy the nostalgia that comes with staying at a hotel established in 1907. Back in the waning days of the way of the west, Centennial still manages one hundred years on to offer a taste of life in the old days. Very rude customer service. They answered the phone with a curt "Mountain View", followed by silence. I then asked to place a reservation and the 'customer service representative' (and I use that term loosely in this case) told me that I'd need to call back tomorrow or go online. I explained that I tried to book online, but the website directed me to call the hotel directly. She then said (again, quite rudely) "We're already booked that weekend." I responded with "Oh, I see. Well, thanks for your help", at which point she said nothing and simply hung up. If this is illustrative of their customer service, I'd be wary of staying there!! read more

Very nice historic hotel - nothing fancy, but clean and charming located in Centennial. The breakfast menu is superb, delicious. This morning we had the egg scramble with turkey sausage, tomato, green onion, and black beans. So good. Centennial has not changed much in the 40 years I've been there. The Bear Tree was a perfect spot for dinner both nights. Little shops still serve ice cream and souvenirs. Unfortunately the Trading Post is no longer open. Greatest salad and steaks ever. This is our favorite breakfast place ever. Actually, it's one of the reasons we have stayed in Centennial when we go snowmobiling every year. The owners are an amazing couple who have the big city knowledge of running a business and chose to bring that vibe to a community of less than 250 people because they love the mountains THAT much. And it shows! Their hospitality is unbelievable. They always talk to each customer. My advice? Talk back to them and get to know them! And try to get their recipes while you're at it! We came to the area for a ski trip and stayed 3 nights. Our room was nicely appointed and a warm space. The owners were welcoming and accommodating. They met us on our arrival and personally showed us to our room. We enjoyed breakfast all three of our mornings. Service was prompt and friendly. Portions were generous! Each day two omelette specials and a daily special were presented in addition to the usual menu. Great to fill up the tank for a long day on the mountain. Looking forward to our next stay! read more

This Historic Hotel is absolutely charming! Mike and Kathleen are absolutely amazing hosts and owners. The bed was SOOO comfortable and everything was squeaky clean! Their homemade breakfast in the morning was out of this world and the coffee was delicious. Couldn't be happier with our weekend ski getaway in the mountains! Terrific breakfast! We were traveling from Saratoga to Laramie this morning along Wyoming Highway 130, which traverses the Snowy Mountains. The town of Centennial is at the eastern base of the Snowys and we stopped in at the Mountain View's Café for a nice breakfast. The coffee was quick and hot, always a good sign at breakfast time. My wife got the last salmon quiche, and I had the spicy chicken sausage scramble. Both were excellent. The portions were generous, but not excessive, IMHO just right. The owners are friendly and engaging, and we had a very pleasant conversation. I think some time we would like to return and check in to the historic hotel, to take advantage of the outdoor activities immediately nearby. BTW Wyoming 130 is a beautiful drive and worth the detour is you are in southern Wyoming, but be advised that the road across the Snowy Range is closed in the winter from about mid-November until Memorial Day. read more

The food was good. But the chef in the back was COMPLETELY inappropriate. He spent the entire time we were there telling and cussing at the waitstaff. We heard every cuss word in the book. It didn't seem to occur to him that the patrons could hear him. It was abusive behavior. read more

We stopped in for breakfast this morning and sat a table near the kitchen. I have never been so appalled at the way the owner and cook treated his staff. He continued to verbally abuse the waitresses the entire time we were there; cussing, and shouting derogatory remarks. It was beyond offensive, and ruined the experience for everyone in the restaurant. As a staff member of the Wyoming Office of Tourism, I would strongly encourage visitors to centennial to support the other local businesses in town who are friendly, and appreciative of your business!!! We found the Mountain View hotel too be quaint and charming. The rooms were cozy with plenty of room to move about. Our room and bath were very clean and tidy. The owners were polite and helpful without being intrusive. We were offered tea upon our late arrival, and even though we didn't stay for breakfast they offered to provide coffee for the road. Be mindful that this is a 110 year old building. It is well maintained with all the rustic squeaks and groans which only add to the unique experience. If we find ourselves in the Centennial area again we wouldn't hesitate to take advantage of the hotels charm once again. read more
