We stayed at this property in unit 405 from March 06-14, 2026. It's listed on Air B&B. I couldn't leave a review on Air B&B because my friend made the rental arrangements, so I'm leaving it here. This will take a while but you won't be bored.
The apartment was clean and accommodated three people just fine. However, there were some quirky issues, some kinda hilarious and some downright hazardous:
1.The first thing my friends and I noticed was that the living room TV is attached to a wall right next to the front door entry at about shoulder height, and if you aren't careful you'll bump right into it when you enter the kitchen/living area.
2. Once we got around the TV, we encountered the next hazard: the ceiling light in the living room/kitchen area. We named this monster the DeathStar. It was so bright that we turned it on only once because it was like looking directly into the sun. We ended up depending on a wall light in the kitchen and a clip-on work lamp for the stove, which had no light above it. (One of my friends found the work lamp on a nearby shelf-- we figured a previous tenant had also experienced the DeathStar and decided to avoid severe nuclear burns and blindness, so they must have purchased said lamp for survival).
3. The living/kitchen area AC unit was leaking condensation on the inside of the apartment. The AC worked, but the leak puddled on the floor despite a bucket and towel which had apparenly been placed there to solve the leak issue. This MacGyvered solution didn't work, and we just LOVED stepping in puddled water, which made its way to the living room jute rug and completely soaked about 1/4 of it. We contacted the owner about the AC. A handyman showed up, looked at the unit, and told me there was nothing he could do but recommend that the unit be replaced and for us to "put a towel down" in the meantime. The floor stayed damp and the rug remained soaked the whole week we were there. The AC was leaking so bad that we found A MUSHROOM GROWING UP THROUGH THE FLOOR near it.
4. The garbage disposal in the sink didn't work. We had to buy a sink plunger (which suspiciously looked like a sex toy) and use it every time we did dishes.
5. The Wi-fi was practically non-existent (an ongoing issue according to other reviews of this space on Air B&B). The TV was useless as well, so we had to entertain ourselves by watching the neighborhood drug dealer ply his trade across the street as we sat on the balcony. (This proved to be way more entertaining than the TV anyway due to the regularity of the dealer's business and some of his repeat customers, one of whom we called Disco Debbie since she danced and skipped all the time when she wasn't making a purchase).
6. There were plenty of towels but no wash cloths. Huh? We had to buy some and left a few behind for the next unlucky vacationers, much like the person who left behind the clip-on lamp.
7. We were there for eight days. Three people times eight days generates a bit of trash. We were supplied with only two kitchen trash bags for the entire stay. I happened to have one with me for dirty clothes, so we ended up using that as a last resort.
8. From March 10 through the 14th, Oahu experienced constant rainstorms. It rained solid for four days. On the 12th and 13th, the power intermittently went out all over Waikiki and on the 13th it went out for five or six hours. Nobody in the area had power. The building maintenance people had to manually prop open the stair doors since the elevator didn't work. Since it was also dark, they had to manually tape flashlights to the stair hand rails. The building is secured with an electric key fob system, so this was actually treacherous because the stair exit doors locked behind us on the fourth floor and we had no way to get back in. Some of the doors on the lower floors were zip-tied open, but we were afraid we would not be able to get back in the building when we went to dinner. Fortunately the power came back on just before we returned. This is not the apartment owner's fault, but something needs to be done about emergency exits for sure when there's no power.
9. The Tradewinds Plaza is located on Lemon St., which is actually a side street where trash is picked up every day early in the morning. And it's LOUD. This is also not the owner's fault and didn't bother us nearly as much as the stuff already mentioned, but it's worth noting if you like actual sleep.
10. The parking garage is under the building and looks like a place where murders happen.
11. Communication with the owners was spotty. When we contacted them about the Wi-fi and the AC, they were slow to respond.
In conclusion, if you simply want a roof over your head and a hot shower, stay here. If you don't mind sunstroke by DeathStar and you can live without Wifi and a dry floor, stay here. Otherwise, stay at the Queen Kapiolani or one of the hostels on Lemon St. read more
