History
Established in 2021.
Surfbreak HNL was founded in 2021, at a time when remote work was reshaping how people lived and worked. As more professionals gained the freedom to work from anywhere, many also faced a new challenge: loneliness and a lack of meaningful community. Surfbreak was created to help bridge that gap.
From the beginning, our goal has been to offer more than a place to live. We wanted to create a welcoming home base in Honolulu for remote workers, professionals, students, entrepreneurs, creatives, and anyone on or coming to the island looking for genuine connection alongside the flexibility of modern work.
Community has always been at the heart of Surfbreak. Through shared living, coworking, events, adventures, and everyday moments together, Surfbreakers can build friendships, exchange ideas, support one another, and feel more rooted. What began during a major shift in how people work has grown into a global community centered around connection and belonging.
