I would recommend this building to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, safe, downtownn, somewhat upscale unit in Honolulu. There is always security who seem to take their jobs more serious than most on staff. The elevators haven't had any problems since I've moved in here. The building has a nice modern feel for honolulu. Each unit has at least one lanai, floor to ceiling windows in every room, and access to the pool, Hot tub, and gas grills. You can usually find reasonably priced rental units in this building. read more

Renter Buyers Beware! I'm a current renter at Honolulu Tower and over the past year there has been plumbing issues where the hot water is spotty to non-existent and has gotten extremely bad since September 2024. Over 90% of the days there was no hot water. The manager Idor does not seem to care nor give timely updates on the progress of the fix and the HOA managers do not care as the issue doesn't affect their top floor apartments. Additionally, there is a fire alarm and sprinkler issue that hasn't been resolved and instead of informing the residents in a building wide announcement the Management only posts a piece of paper next to the fire alarm systems. read more

We've lived here a year and couldn't be happier: friendly staff, clean, well landscsped grounds that make it feel really peaceful as you walk off the hectic city streets, convenient location close to downtown jobs, airport, easy transit to Ala Moana, Waikiki, Kailua Beach, tons of restaurants and bars. Dog friendly building and theres puppers everywhere. you get to know fellow pup parents from elevator chats and morning/evening routines. Its lovely. Cons: elevators go down a lot. Normally theres three but sometimes get down to 1 which is frustrating if you live on high floors. Its a block from fire station so loud midnight sirens aren't unusual. Chinatown is pretty vibrant and isn't for everyone. You'll see a lot of people struggling on the street which can be heartbreaking. but never feels unsafe to me. People drive like jerks getting in and out of parking garage. Not super convenient bike parking. read more

I have lived here since October 2019. I love this building, it is my forever home and it is one of the best values for real estate in the downtown area. The building is well maintained and flyers are constantly placed in common areas to advise tenants of issues. Yes the parking garage can be a challenge but the inconvenience rates on the scale of a "pebble". And elevators will go down. That's life. As for the management team, I only know Hillary and Atlanta and they take care of business. I trust them and have always had good communications with them. It's not a popularity contest! In reading some of the other yelp reviews, it just makes me sad that someone is devoting such an effort to the demise of another human for what is obviously a communication problem! read more

Do not buy or rent from this building!!! Let me first off by saying, when I first started renting a unit in this building I fell in love. The resident manager at the time was a lady, and she was very pleasant to deal with. The units are spacious which is quite rare in Hawaii. The amenities are decent and majority of the security staff is friendly. Location is always prime. We been here for about almost a year now. We had absolutely NO issues with security or complaints. We get along very well with our neighbors. So basically we have never had any issues or complaint with any units or buildings we have rented from prior. We keep to ourself and we're courtesy to those around us. So what's the deal right?!? It all went down hill one morning when security asked if they can inspect my lanai. (Christmas Eve) I let them in and they said someone had vomited off their lanai which had effected some other units lanai. You can see small residue of throw up on my lanai and a few others below me. I was surprise to see this since of course I didn't even go out to the lanai for days. The security took pictures and said they would be sending someone to clean it. No biggie.. I THOUGhT!!! A few days later my landlord asks us if we threw a party the day before Christmas Eve and I was shocked to find out the resident manager was accusing us. As we did not throw a party, nor were we even home that night because both me and my bf were working till almost day break. Being that we have a good standing relationship with the landlord and him knowing that we are business owners who work ALOT we had his trust and he too knew it wasn't us. So we tried calling the resident manager who not only insulted me because I'm sure I sound like a kid on the phone but then started telling me he really didn't care what we had to say. Wow... I asked him why he was being so rude and he said if I had an issue with him write a letter kaz he doesn't care. In the end, my poor landlord got stuck with a 20k (yes, 20,000.00) bill for cleaning up throw up. How crazy is that?!? Screw college, let's all just clean up vomit. Wait.. there's more! Apparently this vomit had effect windows too, so they charged him for window cleaning of all the units below us! CRAZY!!!!! As you can tell by the photos theres no way the windows could be affected. They been cancelling our window cleaning for months now, I really feel like they just use the throw up as an excuse to clean windows too. Sad part of it all was my landlord got stuck with the bill. So if you really want to get screwed or just have drama just thrown at you for no absolute reason, this building is for you! It's so embarrassing because apparently I been told by a security guard that everyone knows us as the problem unit now. Wth?? Sooo uncomfortable. I don't understand why they won't even listen to us, all they want is the bill to be paid. In the end this whole ordeal just made my landlord want to sell and I'm moving the hell out of this building. I'm scared to even sneeze in the hallway, I might get charged with some crazy amount for sanitation fee. such a horrible feeling being falsely accused then treated as such. So Mr. Stephen Reichard, here's my letter. Good luck, because the person who is the real culprit in your "bio-hazard" incident still lives there. Jerks like that will keep being jerks, so I hope next time he/she does it I hope the board makes YOU clean it up! As a former employee I can say this. It's a good place to work and most of the residents are funny and warm hearted people. The board for the most part never changes so it's a little self serving at times and leaves a lot of the younger residents out as far as policy changes and enforcement goes. The General Manager was awesome! She really sticks up for her workers and is fair in her judgments. She can be a little crazy but she never hesitates to apologize when she knows she's wrong. The staff is great! Cesar & Joven are very quick with handling work orders. the housekeepers(Consuelo,Jona,Angelito,Johnny)really take pride in their work and you will mever see them standing idly. Bernard the landscapers AMAZING! if your a resident reading this google what Honolulu towers gardens looked before, they pale in comparison greatly to what he has done. As for the security staff Frances John Vee and Losi are the friendliest and most knowledgeable. Feel free to rely on them when your in need of any help. One of the girls has an amazing voice and she even sings happy birthday to every resident who grants her that knowledge. Also, if your thinking of applying I must warn you though, the operations manager/Watch lead, I think his first names IGOR. Hes soft spoken but his favoritism speaks volumes. in the time I was working there, there were multiple times he'd give time off to his favorites and decline those who asked months in advance. He didn't let us fill out request off, shift swaps or vacation forms so there would be no paper trail and the ones declined couldn't fight it without proof. Scheduling was very haphazard. Noone really cross trained and Igor was very adamant about who could work what shift. Hardly any of the staff are first aid knowledgeable or CPR certified And even less of them know how to write a simple incident reports or trespass forms. I think the worst thing about hI'm was the way he spoke to some of us. He'd yell and cuss at the guys but try to sweet talk and finesse the girls. Yuck! The property is definitely beautiful and is a good location for socialites and entrepreneurs! however the elevators are continuously breaking down and the mail room is Atrocious! The amenities are wonderful and aesthetically pleasing! Gibes off an Oasis vibe in the middle on the city which Is a good change of scenery! The neighborhood is a complete coin toss situation. Some days the homeless population is all but nonexistent while other days it seems like an encampment may form before your very eyes! I'm glad I left honestly, wasnt worth all the drama. read more

This is a horrible place to live. Here are a few of the highlights - The building is antiquated and not very well maintained. Two of three elevators are broken on a regular basis, and one of two garage elevators are usually not in working order either. The management refuses to call for repairs over the weekend because of the overtime charges. The building went without trash compactor/chute operation for close to ten weeks yet management felt it was a bigger necessity to power wash the garage floors. While there is an available BBQ and picnic area for residents to use, the propane grills are so poorly maintained that it's difficult to light a single burner. The amount of chlorine in the pool leaves you with burns. No kidding. And they keep talking about adding more. The parking situation is bad. the garage is tiny and it's difficult for cars to pass in opposing directions without veering to the side. In addition, when BOTH elevators aren't working, no one bothers to post any sort of signage indicating so. The guest parking is limited to 15 minute visits and is usually filled with service vans (i.e. plumbing, elevator repair). Is it any indication of what sort of shape the building is in when these people are here all the time? The majority of residents are lack personality or are downright a*$holes. Security is nice...ineffective, but nice. We won't even get into "resident rules". The board looks for people to break the rules. It's a little Japanese man's fiefdom. For the amount you're paying, you should be getting more - even in Hawaii. This place is terrible. Head down the street to Capitol Place. read more

Been living here for over a year now and I am extraordinarily happy with Honolulu Tower. I face Ewa and get a great view. Friends are always jealous! Location cannot be beat, especially since I like to party in Chinatown. As of my review, ALL 3 elevators have been working for the most part I've lived here. There are always grills available, if not, the security guys are more than happy to turn them on for you. The sauna has been fixed and the pool is fine. The garage door has been maintained, without problems on my side. Parking is an issue in Chinatown and luckily, it seems like someone is always renting out a parking spot. Just check the bulletin board. Security is ALWAYS friendly. They really make it a point to do their job professionally and with a sense of friendliness. Highly recommend living here! read more

It's always amazing to me how everyone focuses on the negative. Honolulu Tower is a GREAT PLACE TO LIVE. Yes it is an older building and has it's share of quirks, however there are many positive things about it. The management is friendly and attentive. Security always says, hello, opens the doors or gates for me if my hands are full, and knows many residents by first name. The elevators had issues last year, but are in top shape thanks to a new service company. The elevators are going to be replaced in the next year and that is the only reason they will be out of service, and it will be one at a time being fixed. The pool is a salt water pool so I'm not sure what the other poster was talking about with the chlorine, and they just installed brand new BBQ's. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and well maintained. The location is perfect! You can bike, walk, or bus to anything you need! Located in the heart of Chinatown, there is so much fun stuff to see, eat, and participate in on a daily basis. I would highly recommend living here. read more

Honolulu Tower is a great place to live, esp. if you're attending HPU, which is just a short (5mn. walk away) from the downtown campus and bus stop to the Windward campus. -Pros: Centrally located, easy to get to the ever-evolving Chinatown bar/restaurant scene and downtown work/school locations. Also a short Uber/taxi/drive away from Waikiki. Super friendly and kind staff that will make you feel at home even when you're miles (or thousands of miles) away from home. Pet friendly. Pool, hot tub and bbq amenities (also a burgeoning library). Pretty grounds that are well maintained. Parking stalls included with most apartments and people offering stalls for sale/rent on the downstairs bulletin board regularly. Bike friendly. Metered parking and a 15 mn guest parking area on the Maunakea St. side. City bus stop on Beretania St. side. Lots of public parking nearby. Package acceptance. Trash chutes on every floor and recycling and donation bins downstairs on the first floor of the parking garage. Trusted staff (can't stress enough how nice the staff is). More square footage for your dollar than the next door Park Place apartment complex. Great security. Closed circuit tv security monitoring on channel 57 of the pool area and front and back entrances. -Cons: Your rent will be raised after your lease is up (as with most complexes). After renting you are required to pay for professional apartment cleaning, carpet cleaning, and exterminator treatment if you have a pet (something I've never been required to do at any other complex). This is a smoker friendly building (only within your unit/lanai) which may be bothersome to some or a plus for others. The units that offer ocean views, although beautiful, do get a lot of noise from the crazy Chinatown scene, particularly if you have an AC unit in your bedroom (which is akin to leaving a window open in terms of street noise). I lived on the 27th floor and was still awakened regularly by Chinatown noises but I am also a light sleeper so heavier sleepers may not mind so much. -All in all a beautiful building in a prime location that has its pluses and minuses. I truly enjoyed living here but apartment life is hard to enjoy long-term. Very appreciative of the friendly and caring staff that made my time so memorable. Would recommend for HPU students and temp. downtown professionals. Family friendly building. read more

Honestly, I think in this online space, it's mostly the haters who want to share their dissatisfaction. I lived in Honolulu Tower for several years and loved it. The location is fantastic. You are close to downtown Honolulu and very close to the freeway to access other parts of the island. The staff was great when I lived there. Be nice to others and they just might be nice to you. I never had a problem with my parking spot. Sure, the elevators broke from time to time, but just add a few more minutes into your planning and it should be fine. Never had a problem with trash or anything else- great common areas. Seriously, it's a terrific place and for the amount I paid for rent-- pretty good. I think this is a great rental property for Hawaii. I've lived in other cities around the country and they have better management overall, but for Honolulu in that location, I am really happy I lived there and I recommend it to others relocating to the area. read more

As I had visited this past summer I find that this last post has alot of wrong information. The pools are salt water pools no chlorine is added. It is self generated at a methodical electronical control rate. and is checked every day for ppm. And the management stated they have had no complaints of any burns or sicknesses. The Barbeques are in bad shape but ask how did they get that way, it surely wasn't the staff trying to take care of them and having to clean up after the residents used and abused them expecting the staff to have to clean up after them. Good news is they are about to be replaced. The elevators are 26 years old and have lacked the proper maintenance, and are long due for modernization. That is now in the works to happen this year. This is not due to Management however just poor planning on the Associations part as this is their responsibility. However the past managers could have given them a head up if they were paying attention. Management also calls for repairs anytime they are required if there is an incovenience to the residents. But budgets are what they are and all Boards try to save the most for the Association and try hard not to run the reserves into the ground. The building went without a trashcompactor for ten weeks due to the compactor being constructed from scratch in a mailand facility, then driven to the west coast for shipping and then shipped and delivered and installed at the building. If the residents would pay attention to what is to go in one of these machines maybe they wouldn't break down and have to be replaced as often. Granted the Garage is tight but it has nine floors. there are two elevators and they are also old and are to be renivated. The posted sign for a broken elevator for years now has been a safety cone in front of the door of the elevator on the ground floor. If it doesn't come up its not working which is common sense. Being that we only have four guest parking stalls to some 400 units its a no brainer why there is a fifteen minute limit on parking. Also the reason there are alot of plumbing vehicles and service vehicles is people are renovating or having a plumbing problem, window and screen repairs, etc. Usually these vehicles park along the exit side of the driveway as to not take up the guest parking in violation of the House Rules, but the Board has allowed this for years and it has become common place. I agree many resident do lack personality and some are down right as the last poster noted, as well as some thinking their special. Apparently the rule have not been enforce for some years and management lax in enforcing them. Now with the new fining system in place and a new manager enforcing them the whole condo seems to be out to kill the manager, and all he is doing is his job. May he continue doing a good of job as he has been. read more
