PROS: I really like the apartment, it is roomy, well laid out - believe it or not, the complex was designed by a young Cezar Pelli. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%C3%A9sar_Pelli We got a three bedroom with a huge lanai which has been great for having friends over or just working and hanging out. I can live with the area, I work right downtown and it is super convenient. I love the maintenance guys, they are wonderful...big shout out to them they work hard and keep smiling. (Unfortunately I needed maintenance a lot, see cons). It's been a great spot for my dog and he has made many doggie friends. I love the chickens and baby chicks (feel free to move this to cons if that's not you). Most of my neighbors are very nice and I enjoy kids (kids see cons). The community is a mix of families, many I expect on section 8, students, and some professionals (like me). I really liked Jennifer who helped me with the leasing process and the folks that call when maintenance needs to come in are efficient, friendly, and I believe do their best to help. CONS: I had a plumbing issue for the first three or four months, it was disgusting, the tub would back up with gunk and hair and debris coming from the next door apartment. Finally after maintenance came about 25 times I complained loudly to management and they finally got an outside plumber to come in and fix it. Now there are small blips but mostly the plumbing is fine. If you don't like kids (or kid sounds) beware because the culture seems to be to allow kids to be up late, late, late into the night at least in the summer. I have 5 kids next door aged 2-9 and they literally kept me up until 2am many summer nights. To make it worse, kids need sleep and these kids were exhausted ALL THE TIME, so they screamed and cried...a lot. Sleep is a very important thing. Oh and yes, cockroaches! But note they will send an exterminator. I will say that worst experience so far (which may sound a bit silly) is how I have been treated by the leasing team as I decide if I will stay, go, or move to a smaller unit. I guess I had this crazy idea that they would want to keep a decent tenant paying market rate rent. But they REALLY do not seem to care. I went to the office to ask about moving to a smaller unit and was told that although I'd been living here a year and my circumstances hadn't changed, I'd still need to create a completely separate new application for the lower priced unit. Could I transfer some of my $2,575.00 security deposit to a smaller unit? Nope, AND in addition to the new application AND new deposit they also want a $500 deposit to secure a new place that I can't see. If there was any budge or anything done to make it any easier for me to stay here than go somewhere else, I'd probably have done it but there was absolutely NO effort made. But honestly, it wasn't even the policies making it just as difficult to re-rent here as to go elsewhere...but rather the attitude that made it clear to me that I didn't matter to them and that they were perfectly happy to see me go...if even one person in the office had said "we'd love to keep you" it would have made a difference. Stay clear and stay away. If you want to see your $1,000 deposit then pick somewhere else to live. Per the Hawaii State Handbook https://cca.hawaii.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/2024-Landlord-Tenant-Handbook-Final.pdf they have 14 days from the date of termination of the rental agreement provide an itemized receipt. They did not. We also have video of the walk through inspection. Not only did they keep our entire security deposit they attempted to charge us a cleaning fee, as well as charge us for replacing the entire apartments floor. When called out and even presented with a demand letter from an attorney the "management" will consistently be out of office, away, and not reply to any emails. And then when they reply again after enough time has passed they will say "it has been longer than a year" The goal is to take advantage of people who are busy, pcs, or do not know any better. The one thing they did right was spray for roaches but take a look under all the cabinets if you still decide you want to give this place your money. The security gates are never secured, the rfid keys never work, security is non existent so when you are stuck at the gate good luck. I would go on, but at the point they will steal your deposit there is no reason to consider living here, ever. read more

The worst apartment ever. One star is still too good of a rating. HOLY theft. My apartment was on the bottom floor so we had access to a door in one of the rooms. We had to call the cops 4 times due to a man trying to unlock the door/ move around window panels. I PROMISE YOU this management has no idea what's going on in the place they SCAM. Shortly after, a detective showed up saying that my neighbor's house got robbed in the night and it was the same guy trying to get into our apartment. I had TWO mopeds get stolen in my assigned parking spot. (Yes, chain on and everything LOCKED). Asked the office and security for the cameras because then we can see the car leaving through gate and they said "we don't have any in that area if we do they broken" soooo why do we have a sign up that says "area is surveillance"? THEN when the gate got hit they sent us the video of the gate ... did we not ask yall for that exact camera. Another incident was a homeless man with a big 9-inch knife just wandering through the apartment sitting on benches.... Security is a joke. Security can't hold jobs there. The older security guy is super nice. Now that young one....he be running a STRICT program on that electric scooter and yet mopeds get stolen, apartments robbed, and homeless enter. Idk why he even bought that scooter. I threw away a trash bag... BRO WENT AND LOOKED IN THE TRASH CAN. If he was so interested in the trash bag, I would have kindly given it to him to throw away. He does do his job tho BUT DAMN, you must go to bed stressed. You will NEVER feel safe in Weana apartments. To add the cherry on top, there was a shooting in the park in January. Gunshots were so loud my room rattled. (If it allows me to add videos, I will add it.) The office has no idea what they're doing. They just try to bring in as much money as they can. One time I lost my key fob and mailbox key. I go back to the gym and it was gone. The lady walking out of the gym said she turned it into the lady at the front desk. DEADASS, I go to that office and say "a lady just said she just turned in my key" office lady said "I never received a key." GIRL, I SEE IT ON THE SHELF BEHIND YOU. (Lady who sits right in front of the floor plans) The laundry room is gross; you find other people's hair in the machines every time. Your clothes will be in the washer and come out dry and still stained, but YET it costs $2.75. The basketball court is loud, and they never stop playing music even when the lights go out. When the lights do go out, you are awakened by kids sneaking out at 3am screaming. The kids wrote all over our door and then never fixed it when we submitted a request. Douglas will respond to this with a BOT response saying "so sorry about your experience, we will grow from this" girl stop lying to yourself I emailed that man, woman, they/them, and they don't say anything; they leave you ghosted. As a business, they should just shut down and do the galaxy a favor. "Affordable housing" " for the low income" HELL NO, they are looking for every last penny to take from your pocket. Everyone needs to be fired ASAPPPP and never work for an apartment complex again. Like seriously, a watch list they are evil. Serious investigating needs to happen. They are so full of shit. Shutting them down would be world peace. They took my entire $1,000 security deposit and are STILL trying to say I owe them money... like why the HELL do I owe you money on top of taking my whole deposit?? During the inspection, the lady Tiana (I think that was her name) literally said, "Everything looks very good One of the best we've seen around here!" So why are we suddenly being charged for all this? I have move-in photos AND move out photos. Like... why are we lying?? They're saying they "replaced" the tub. Did we not do our job last August 2025 orrrr? Because that damage was already there when we moved in. I took pictures of it when we first moved in, and we even put a water mat over it to protect the damage from getting worse. Obviously, we thought, "If it was already here, they're not going to charge us for it ." Yeah... no. And let's talk about the mold. Mold is a serious issue in these apartments. You will get mold on the bathroom walls and showers because the bathrooms don't even have windows OR proper ventilation. Then they turn around and charge you for mold. LMAOOO. Whoever designed these bathrooms needs to answer some questions because... what exactly do you expect in Hawaii?? On top of that, the apartment looks and feels like a jail cell. If you're THINKING about moving here... save yourself. I don't care if this is your last option. There are better options out there. Take pictures of EVERYTHING if you do decide to move in because you're going to need them. read more

!!!! MOST HORRIBLE APARTMENT COMPLEX I HAVE EVER SEEN !!!! have been patiently waiting to write this review until after my roommates and I finished taking Waena TO COURT over our security deposit. We read the reviews of everyone saying DO NOT expect a security deposit back so when we moved in we documented EVERYTHING plus filled out WAENA'S OWN MOVE-IN FORM to show and document the condition of the apartment beforehand. But upon move-out, we still never saw our security deposit back and they claimed "the move-in form didn't count because they didn't have it on file." So basically threw it out and decided actually it doesn't count anymore. After showing them a picture of it and video/photo proof of damages/filth that we moved into, they still ignored us/acted dumb and gave us the run around for months so we took them to court and got our money back. It's just so sad it has to come to that and most people do not have the means and time to do all that. A disgusting company that exploits low-income families and greedily takes all they can get from you. Shame on you guys for treating people like that. Other things include: -The NASTIEST people in the office I have ever encountered. Which is hilarious because over 3 years the staff has been replaced multiple times and STILL they're all horrible. I think the job description includes "take from the poor and act extremely demeaning to tenants." -YOU WILL LIVE WITH THE COCKROACHES. No matter what we did (exterminator came every week as well), we would wake up and our kitchen would be crawling with hundreds of roaches. We had to clean out our entire kitchen soooo many times and it did nothing. We had to live with our entire kitchen in our living rooms for days at a time. Termites also ate a hole through our front door (and guess who got charged for a brand new door!) -Black sewage constantly coming up our tubs/sinks -Parking spaces are AWFUL and if you have more than one car you will be waking up at 6 AM to move your car every day from the street to the park. My car window also got smashed and broken into THREE times. -Many scary situations next to our apartment, lots of people on meth, running around naked with weapons, shootings and fights at our apartment constantly. The amount of times our complex was featured on the news.... -The kids scream at the playground (central to apartment complex) after school and then scream and play basketball until 11 PM every night. Do not expect any peace after work. -Laundry rooms are disgusting, washers dryers are never available because 3/4 of the machines are broken at a time and there's not enough for the amount of people who live there. Clothes get stolen. -Random charges on our account all the time !!!! There is so much more but this is the main stuff. The ONE thing that was amazing was the maintenance staff. They are wonderful and helpful and kind. Shoutout Ryan. They have nothing to do with the horrible people in the office/the company. Anyways, do not move in here :) Even when they act kind during the move-in process because the SECOND you sign it will completely change. I hope you find a better and kinder place to live. Seriously, it's not worth it. read more

This is the worse place to live at on Oahu. Very bad customer service and very rude employees. First of all, the lady Gemma lost our rent check and blamed it on us when she had it in her hands and the camera only shows it. Fanny has a attitude problem. Courtney acts nice in the beginning and then she has attitude problem. Jason the security supervisor is two faced. He was jealous because he knows for a fact that Aunty Patty, Teki, and Eli does their job at all times. When my daughter was assaulted by a chukese male while sitting in her car and I called him to the scene he was in the playground area chasing papers. Jason only came to the scene when the cops and the ambulance was there. He DID NOT even protect us tenants from this dangerous person. He even lost the trespass paper. Jason sees the male on premises and does nothing. Now trying to find a place for an emergency situation, NATASHA is very rude and has a very bad attitude. She made me look stupid by telling me to FCO regarding a balance did not have my name or any information on me. When I called her back to let her know that she tells me I have to pay the 4000 something dollars in order to even clear out that balance when it was not our fault for leaving. We left because of it was jeopardizing the life of me and my kids. My kids safety and my own safety is more important than $4000. You can never replace a life. read more

Our moving experience was crazy hectic since we didn't have any credit anywhere & money was tight. But we needed a place for our kids. I seen Waena Apartments had a opening for 4 bedrooms which is exactly what i needed. The room sizes are perfect for us. Shout to Shaniah for making the process very easy. She made sure we knew everything before signing up. She did end up getting sick during the original set move in date but she still made everything else go smoothly up to signing the lease. She also did a thorough walk through before we arrived and made notes that we probably would've missed. We didn't even see the actually apartment until our move in date. So far so good. read more

DO NOT RENT HERE! Once you move in, they don't care about you AT ALL! I've had SO MANY issues, and 0 was resolved. 1. Clogging issues all the time! Your kitchen sink, shower tub, toilet will NEVER be clean, you know why? cause sewage from other apartments will come out from your sink and tub. Wanna see other people's food scrapes, dirt, hair balls, or even kids toys in your sink? Wanna experience the feeling when you come home and thought somebody had broken into your home when you see a random toy in your tub? Come live here! 2. Strict rules. Ok, I understand, but no plants on the balcony?? If I can't put plants on the balcony, what can? I even took a photo of their "periodic inspection" notice because of how ridiculous this is. 3. Speaking about "periodic inspection", they will randomly go to your apartment for no reason! their reason is "periodic inspection". figure it out yourself what that means. 4. Parking spot is SO small that you can NOT get out of the car. I'm only 120 lbs adult woman driving a 2 door sedan, and if I can't get out, I believe most people can't. Asked the office if I can get another parking spot, all I got was sarcasm like idk how to park. Asked if I can park anywhere temporarily? Nope, they will toll your car. Park on the street? Nope, you have to move it after certain hours, so figure it out yourself, maybe lose weight first and then park. 5. The renovation materials are so cheaply made. The curtain blinds are so flimsy that it would just fall off by itself. Called the office to fix it, and guess what? YOU are responsible to pay for it. 6. I personally went into their office and told the employees that I will be moving out on XXX day. The front desk also said she will tell the people in charge. This was way before their 28 day notice policy. Got a phone call 8 days before the move out day and told me I didn't notify them. They didn't care what I said and covered their mistake and charged me another 28 days of rent. So basically I have to pay extra rent for the mistakes THEY made, and they don't care. The list goes on and on, but if you want to deal with a company like this, live here and hate on your own decision! read more

No. I am a current resident. And. Just. No. Roaches to high hell. Rats in common areas. Management is disrespectful and doesnt take accountability when shown proof of evidence that they messed up. Residents are dirty and have people coming and going at every hour of the night. Cops are frequently called. People double park which causes traffic. Toddlers dart out on roads with parents no where to be found. God awful. Trust the reviews. The community manager Charlene doesnt know how to own up to her mistakes. And yes, i know that management will see and respond with something along the lines of "we dont see you as a resident, please contact us to address these issues". Trust and believe, I have tried. They fix one mistake then let the rest slide until they're called out again. Three weeks ago my ceiling was leaking from above unit. Ruined all my pictures on the wall. Called emergency repair, no response. Still have yet to hear back from them. A kids sock was found clogging our drain that somehow came up through the pipes. If I could I would not give this supposedly living replenishment environment any star. Let me tell you something, I am born and raised here in Oahu all my life, and let me say we lived in this complex for many many many years since I was 13 years old. Yes I'm 34 years old now, I don't care if I'm putting my personal life in the public but for anyone that is planning to live here LMAO good luck, the people in the office they don't care about you, once you sign the papers and get the keys your trash, they don't care if you have a complaint about your unit, nor the cleaning in the unit may look remarkably when you first move in, but behind the walls? Lmao don't get me started. There are living creatures behind your walls they cover the walls with cheap paints and trust me I swear I seen a little rat behind my stove... if you want to make your money worth it, go find somewhere else where you know your living area is safe, Security there they don't do nothing, noises policy 10pm? Lmao I don't want to get started on this. I really hope corporate sees this message too, because living in Hawaii is suppose to be an environment to feel like your home, a home you can go home too from a long day at work, but it ain't.. it drains me every time I leave work knowing that I gotta go home to this. The rent is TOO DAYUM high for no reason and wait it worse, when you do decide to move out, I say don't bother cleaning it, because even if you do hire a professional cleaners to do it, your wasting your money, they will not return your deposit. Its sad that I had to move out from this area an area where I called home when it was once called KUKUI GARDENS but now a private owner took over and just changed the name to "WAENA" lmaoo I have family members that lives in KUKUI garden that's located across from waena and let me tell you, NO DIFFERENCES from the inside units than how it is in WAENA. Units are the same, the only difference is that the rent in WAENA is twice more than kukui gardens because supposedly kukui garden is a low income housing? SHIT WAENA should be too, Everything from the units including the dayum toilets are the same. PLEASE be careful about looking into moving here because I will NEVER recommend it to no one.... I rather live on the beach than living in this environment. Again RUDE people in the office, they like to twist words and only care about your money, RUDE securities that sleeps in the guard shacks and you even pay for trash too and the trash bins are always full and people just don't care... so don't even think about moving here I really don't recommend it at all. We asked the office since Nov last year to see why we still other charges that they are WAITING on lol they have not yet replied until my husband had to reply back to them asking them about it.. lol very sad I tell you.. read more

Secondly, today they unclogged my kitchen sink. I was not well so I was upstairs in bed. They let themselves in telling me they were here. Update to my post: Security Supervisor Jason Liberado has messaged me on Yelp, telling me to get the facts straight. 1. I, along with a LOT of other residents, have seen Jason Liberado do the things I posted in my review. 2. Insinuating that my family does not abide by the house rules and have received multiple violations is his way of trying to make himself look as if he does an outstanding job and I'm sure his pride is hurt hence the insinuations. Living here can be great or a headache. It really depends upon where you live in the complex. There are a lot of noisy children who venture unattended so if you like peace and quiet, do not live near the playground. There are also a lot of smokers so if you decide to live there, definitely ask about a unit with no smoking neighbors around, though the management can lie and are fine doing so. Rent usually increases by $100 every year. Water and sewer are not included in rent but the electricity costs are a bit ameliorated by the solar power in the buildings. Washers and dryers are industrial grade but you have to pay about $2.25/wash and $2.00/dry. One draw back is that you only get one parking stall no matter how many drivers live in your household. There also is a problem with property crime and vandalism in the parking lot, so it's best to request a second floor apartment and a well lit parking stall. Maintenance staff is excellent and if anything breaks, they fix it right away. There is also security patrol and the property itself is very safe within the bounds of the gates surrounding the property but they do not work on weekends. When you move out, expect the management to charge you for every little thing and even unjustifiably. read more

Where to begin... my roommates and I have lived in Waena for approximately two years now. We have had a plethora of issues with this complex and their management. We can begin with the fact that upon having my car shipped and having purchased a parking spot, they refused to let me park in my spot, forcing me to park on the street (in a generally not safe area), and walk home after coming home late from work, as a single female. Bolts were stolen out of my hood, and my brand new tires stolen off of my car while being parked on the street. In total it costed me $400 to replace. Me and my three other female roommates had filed multiple complaints with the front office as we had issues with a peeping Tom who lived on our floor. Occasionally following my roommates to work or home from class and creeping through our windows. When we left the complaint, with photo and video evidence of these encounters no one reached out to us regarding these concerns. After having lived there for a year, it came time to renew our lease. When we began the paperwork, we came to find out that my name had never been added to the original lease, despite being the primary for the household. We also came to find out that they had lost personal banking information for me and two of my other roommates, forcing us to resubmit all of our documents. This process took over a month to complete, with constant back and forth with the office. After eventually deciding to move out, my roommates and I had taken days off of work to meet the cleaning criteria of the apartment, as they had provided to us. After moving out we were hit with a $400 cleaning charge in addition to a $500 repainting fee. After trying to dispute the fee, we were told that we were supposed to dispute during our final inspection, which we were not informed of or invited to. After a month we are still going back and forth with their offices to try to minimize the costs of moving out. My personal advice to you; do not even entertain the idea of living here. I would not have left such a lengthy review if I did not feel so strongly about this complex. read more

I'm not much of a yelper. I usually only leave reviews if I'm really satisfied or really dissatisfied. Okay where do I start? Great experience from the start. We came in for a tour a couple years ago and they had a 4 bedroom available for us but it was on the Liliha side of the complex. To be honest I did not want to move that side because I like quiet. After we did the application process and waited for our credit check Fanny called us and offered us a unit next to the office. I was so excited because the closest to the office you are the better. (My opinion) The move in process was good. The office was very helpful and continued to check in on us every once in awhile in until we was completely settled in. Management-Every encounter I had was a peaceful encounter. Communication is good. When I needed to speak to them and they were unavailable, I would get a call back immediately. Office staff- very nice. We took advantage of the room upstairs the office weekly for small group meetings. I was told not to many people use it. If you live here and have not used it, I say use it. they have a computer room you can use and a printer. When the printer I'd out of order you can email your document to the office and they will print it with their printer. Maintenance-THE BEST. They come as soon as they are available. Very helpful, very detailed on what they are doing. Very good at the work they do. Landscaping-These guys need to take a break. Everyday like clockwork he blows the sidewalk and sometimes blows the trees to watch leaves fall. Like I mentioned earlier. I like quiet. I know it's his job but everyday? Same thing? The landscaping looks great. Guess it's from doing it everyday. Residents- okay I'M NOT PERFECT IN ANYWAY but can some of these people lack any more common sense? I see people walking dogs with no leash. People not cleaning up after the dog. Kids eating snacks drinking juice box and leaving it in the ground. Children as young as three running around with no supervision. Smoking on property when it's been said it is not allowed, people forget their keys and instead of waiting for someone to go through the gate they kick it open. That poor gate has been broken numerous of times. security- Aunty Patti and Jason are doing the best they can with the type of tenants they deal with. It's not easy to deal with all this things. Lol. They are the aunty and uncle of the complex. If they see your kids doing things that they are not supposed to be doing, they scold them. Hey, it really does take a village. Especially if you are not watching your kids. When I need security assistance they are there in a heart beat. I appreciate the hard work they do. If you are looking for a place and need a place in town, I highly recommend here because it's affordable and convenient. The staff is great and there really is some great neighbors. We are moving out on Friday because we finally have a house otherwise I would stay here. Thank you Waena for a wonderful living experience. I will continue to recommend you to all my friends. Especially friends with fur babies. read more

I'm kinda really disappointed, I have not even expected to have this problem here because my kids are always supervised on the premises. But the "NIGHT" security was so rude to me it was unbelievable. First off we were washing clothes near the bbq area so I figure there is no sign that my kids cant play in the grass while I washed clothes . But than a big guy security was yelling at the other peoples kids for sitting in a skateboard in the side walk he wasn't even moving !!!!!! Than he tried to scold my kids and even was walking toward them in a threatening way my sons 3 and this guys like 200+ so after I put my clothes in the dryer I went to ask for his name because now I'm pissed off . I found them by the community police building . I went to ask his name and I also let him know I didn't appreciate the way he approach and spoke to me and my kids who are 7 and 3years old . . I think he thought I was a teenager or something because the way he spoke to me was like a child maybe because I was playing with my kids . When I confronted him this time he was with a woman security guard . He tried to get upset and get out his cart to walk towards me and get louder telling me there is no one allowed on grass you are not allowed to have balls outside your home and we are to loud playing at 6pm!!!! . I told him I feel threatened the way he got out to rush towards me . Than the lady with him starts to LAUGH!!! And then they said just take it up with management as they laughed about it and drove off ,this made me even more aggravated I never ever had a problem with security or the apartments at all but I definitely think the staff should be trained on how to approach kids and especially woman ! Worst apartments to rent from. They never fixed there washers and dryers. Rediculous, all these renters and not enough washers and dryers. I live here, and can't wait till the least is up. Now in my section one end has only one washing machine working, and at the other end there are only 4 machines working. So sad with all these renters they can not have decent wash machines. UPDATE, DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE. BAD NEWS. RUN AWAY. THEY CHARGE FOR NORMAL WEAR ON AN APARTMENT WHEN YOU HAVE LIVED THERE A YEAR. ELEVATOR CONTINUOUSLY BREAKS DOWN. WASH MACHINES BREAK DOWN CONTINUOUSLY. They will nickel and dime you when you leave there. DON'T even think about renting here. RUN AWAY. If you made the mistake of renting there, when you leave they will attempt to charge you for normal wear and tear of the rental. Stay strong and fight it. Make sure you fight it with proof. We did and the waived what they were trying to charge us. Best way to avoid the hassle with them. STAY AWAY, AND DO NOT RENT FROM WAENA APARTMENTS. read more

Shaniah has been unbelievably stellar throughout this whole process transitioning from the east coast to Hawaii. She was extremely knowledgable throughout our tour on Waena when viewing possible apartments to apply to this fall . However, her much appreciated character didn't stop there. Throughout all the steps in the application process, Shaniah has been there every step of the way. Between all the forms needing to be completed , employment verification for both current and future jobs , and ensuring all necessary steps are met to qualify as applicants, she has been constant , reliable point of contact to ensure a smooth move from New England to Hawaii. I highly recommend anyone looking for an apartment, whether moving to Hawaii or transition to a new local one , to look at Waena and never hesitate to reach out to Shaniah for a smooth , reliable process from start to finish. Your work ethic is truly remarkable and you have been very much appreciated for all you have done for me and my family to move to Hawaii. Thank you so so much, Shaniah. read more

Update: Don't bother living here if you have furniture or a queen size bed. It doesn't fit through the stairwells and no one will go over the balcony. Leasing office failed to even mention this. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Like most of the reviews you'll read- when we originally toured the complex, it was in the lower quiet end that appeared to be newer. The apartment was clean and had beautiful wood floors with a decent size kitchen. It's loft style with small stairway up to the bedrooms. The husband and I were looking to be closer to town without paying a ridiculous amount to live there. This place was a reasonably priced 2 bedroom. They even discounted the security deposit. That's where the good ends. We had wanted to see the place we were moving into, but told on several occasions it was not "ready" yet and they were still painting. So we viewed a model. Our own fault for signing a lease without seeing the actual apartment. Move in day- called to confirm elevator availability because in the current building my husband and I live in, you have to reserve the elevator. Linda, the lady assisting us with move in said no need it was small and could probably not fit large furniture. Disappointed since we were on the 6th floor. After hours of loading up the moving truck we arrive at our new "home" to find that the elevator was actually broken and according to our neighbors had been broken for a few weeks. Our 1 parking stall was so small and the person parked next to us had an SUV that took up all of their spot along with a lot of ours. After 6 hours of moving, yes 6 hours, just wanted a hot shower, but there was no hot water. This also had been out for multiple days and continued to be for the rest of our short stay. To sum this awful experience up, our bedroom and bathroom doors didn't shut. There were cockroaches, kids screaming everywhere even late night. The location is terrifying. The "24/7 security" doesn't exist because the gate is broken so anyone can enter. We moved out after 5 days and that's only because the office wouldn't return our phone calls and said they were in meetings every time we called. Please don't move here. read more

Thank you to Frank, Burt and James for the quick and convenient fix on our new apartment. Thank you also for working around my schedule. And Big thanks to Lorenzo and Pepito and the rest of the crew for keeping our home looking so clean and beautiful. Without all of you I don't know where any of us would be. read more

If I could honestly rate this place a ZERO I would, worst place to live. Management SUCKS, appliances are cheap & never last. Rent goes up every year (lease renewal) not worth over $2,000 in all honesty, water is split between the entire building. Electric separate which is expected. The laundromat is complete s*** with just 1-2 washers/dryers working (card operated) reload your laundry card. The inside it decent size it's actually very roomy which is the only positive. I've grown really close to the neighbors & people in the community which made leaving hard but I couldn't stay there any longer. Oh and the parking stall provided is small so if someone is parked next to you on both sides good luck getting in & out of your car. Douglas Emmett is the WORST! This is just a warning, this was a nightmare place to live especially if you have kids. read more

Two stars is generous. I've been living here for a couple months and gratefully can say the lease is broken so I don't have to deal with it anymore. Try only getting ONE parking spot per household. You and your S/O or roommate both have cars? Nope, not allowed. You get one parking space and no guest parking at all. There is zero free street parking anywhere near by so have fun wasting all your money paying to park to live here. Also love spending countless nights listening to the fire alarms go off and the apartment building not caring to shut them off till hours and hours go by. Place is sketchy and not how it looks online. PLEASE save yourself the hassle and find any other apartment complex to live it. PS I never take the time to write a review like this but I genuinely don't want anyone to make the mistake of living here. read more

I've attempted to view an apartment here twice in two years. Each time the advertised apartment hasn't been available at the advertised price, and no apartments were available to tour despite having an appointment. Once, I was at least shown a model unit. The second time another group was also there to tour the advertised apartment and they were told the same lies about the apartment prices changing daily. Everyone, every-time, was pressured to sign a lease on an apartment sight-unseen! The deals never change here, they're always the same baloney. read more

I can only speak to the leasing process, but I want to give a shout out to Linda West. She was very helpful all throughout our time evaluating the apartments. She answered a ton of questions for us, provided us with good recommendations based on our preference, went the extra mile by taking additional pictures of unit for us, and was always very prompt in responding to me. Thanks so much Linda. read more

I would not recommend for any of my family or friends to ever live here, WAYYYY to overpriced and on the last day of living there they charged us $460 for Cleaning. Cleaning that we already did. In the beginning of our move in she told us once our lease was up to leave it as you left and Lord knows how much we scrubbed and cleaned our best. I knew we would be charged for some things here and there but for a FULL cleaning, disgusting. Just a greedy over priced company. I also had a former employee who worked there that came to my workplace and complained and quit because from her experience, it was a terrible place to work at. No to Waena Apartments read more

Been here a little a over month and I have been pleasantly surprised. My family and I have been looking for a 4 bedroom apartment after squeezing in a 2 bedroom for years. The apartment is very well maintained and appeared brand new upon move in. The grounds are meticulously manicured. Security makes their presence known and maintain around the clock watch. We were a bit hesitant because of the location and past history but the dramatic improvements is what made us decide to make this our new home. read more

I am a new resident at Waena Apartments and wanted to share my move in experience as well as my first month calling Waena home. Personally, I experienced very courteous and helpful staff. My unit was very clean with freshly painted walls, appliances were clean and in very good working conditions and I was very pleased with the bathroom and floors. I was assigned a parking stall, which was very important to me and have not had any issues with the security gate and the safety of my vehicle. Moving can be very stressful but Robin, Barbie and Fanny made my experience smooth and I am happy to call Waena home. read more
