Tradewinds incorrectly installed a heating and air conditioning unit in our condo. They refused to honor the warranty and fix the unit. We went to Small Claims Court and won a judgement against them. I have a rental with an old furnace that uses a standing pilot with a thermocouple. I requested service and reported the pilot light that would not stay lit. Tradewinds sent a technician within hours. However, he apparently did not know that a furnace with a standing pilot that won't stay lit generally needs a new thermocouple. He did not replace the thermocouple, a part that costs about $15. The tech reported he cleaned the furnace, relit the pilot, and tested it. I requested the thermocouple be replaced, but because the tech did not call me as I requested, he did not get the communication that I wanted the thermocouple replaced. The charge for that service was $300 ($75 trip fee + $225 for the diagnostic, cleaning, and relighting the pilot light). Within hours, the pilot went out again. The next day, the company owner came out, checked the furnace and right away found a loose connection due to stripped threads, which occurred during the previous day's service. He replaced that section and secured it. He also took apart other sections and discovered a lot of built up of white soot creating a blockage. The amount of build up indicated the previous day's 'cleaning' was cursory and incomplete. The owner did a thorough cleaning and replaced the thermocouple. The furnace was working again! I asked the owner what the tech the previous day could possibly have cleaned and done to justify $225. He said he didn't know. A few hours later, the home's renter returned and immediately detected the strong scent of natural gas. I called Xcel and had the renter vacate for safety. The Xcel technician found a gas leak caused by a connection that had not been properly tightened. I contacted Tradewinds to report the gas leak and suggested they not charge me for the second trip and requested a refund for the first trip. The response was that they would consider a discount, which would be processed that day. UPDATE: In a very timely manner, I received a $50 refund and was not charged for the second service trip. I am grateful the problem is solved and the stress of no heat and a gas leak is behind us. read more

A previous company came out and told me the part that was needed was longer available, so they recommended me replacing the whole swamp cooler. Obviously, that was an unexpected cost that I wasn't looking for right in the middle of a series of 95 degree days. Well, when Eric came out, he told me the part that needed to be replaced. Between him and Nick, they were able to locate the part and save me thousands of dollars on the repair. It's been a few months since we've got our AC and new furnace installed and it has been working like a charm! We vetted a few AC companies prior to choosing Tradewinds. From the start Nicholas has been very helpful and answered all of my husbands millions of questions. They did have to come out twice for the initial walk through and second to do measurements of the house per my husbands request. The measurements helped better fit our system and I wish that was done in the initial walk through. However, I'm happy all the proper calculations were done and completed accurately. The crew was very friendly! They were very respectful with keeping the doors closed, as we asked because of our 15 month old daughter. Finished everything in 2 days, right in time for the hot June weather!! Our furnace didn't work the first time we turned it on for the first September snow storm. Fred came out first thing in the morning and fixed it for us! He was so kind and compassionate about it and told us he would've been here the night before if he knew! Too kind :) Very happy overall with our AC! I can't live without it haha! Cons - sometimes communication was off. We wouldn't know what time the crew was set to arrive. Had to email Tradewinds regarding our first inspection. Crew also used one of our buckets in the basement and left some metal on it. A little frustrating but not a deal breaker. read more

This is my attempt to reach the owner, Mr. Fred Pedroza. Unfortunately the person that has been my POC for my A/C and Heater installation (Nick) has been unable to provide me with the warranty info or the required permitting info that I've been asking for for over 1 month. Every week I'm getting the brush off and I'm extremely concerned that I am going to miss the warranty registration deadline. I attempted to do this myself and was advised by Nick that Tradewinds will do so. Now Nick is simply choosing not to respond to my texts or voicemails. I have paid Tradewinds in full and I cannot get them to follow through. I am hoping that the real owner, Mr. Pedroza sees this and contacts me so that I can get this matter closed. Thank you. Edit: 8/7/23 - Still no follow up from Tradewinds and I'm still getting the brushoff. I have contacted the CO Secretary of State, The Colorado Attorney General, DORA, The City of Wheatridge Building Permitting and Licensing, and Arapahoe County Public Works which oversees their licensing and permitting. Tradewinds is NOT licensed to complete any work in unincorporated Arapahoe County and therefore cannot pull the appropriate permits required for their work. Therefore you are unable to validate the quality or safety of their work performed on your home. The CIty of Wheatridge also advised that they are required to show that their licensing is current in the counties they are completing work. Both Arapahoe County and the City of Wheatridge will be following up with Tradewinds. In the meantime I will be following up to determine my legal rights. read more

This is an awesome HVAC company. Our existing furnace stopped working on the coldest day of the year and when I called them the next day, they re-arranged their schedule to come over and troubleshoot the unit. Their technician (Mike) had amazing troubleshooting skills and explained every step he did to isolate the fault. They also recommended that they give us a quote on a new furnace since the existing one was 22 years old. They were super fair in their pricing and gave me 3 options to choose from. All questions I had were thoroughly answered. There was no "hard" sell at all on purchasing a new furnace. We decided to have it replaced and they were out the next day and did a very professional install. Their technicians Eric and Tony were very qualified and super nice. The best is all I can say! Save their number! Now let me tell you why. Hot day here in Arvada. Bam, my 20-year-old AC dies. It won't fire up. I Yelped "air conditioning" and came across this local business. Expecting to take out a bank loan for what I thought was going to be a completely new unit, I called them. The owner calls me right back and says hold on, let me send my brother over tomorrow to take a look. My time slot was between 11am-1pm. He arrived at 10:30am. Mike arrived at my home and immediately starts troubleshooting. Because I thought I had to purchase a new unit he starts to explain his trouble shooting process. I followed and listened as he went from inside the house to the roof unit explaining the process of elimination. I listened and after about 20 minutes I hear he just might be able to fix my old jalopy. He discovers a bad coil and replaces it. He taught me how to properly use my thermostat which I have been doing wrong the whole time. Who knew! Bottom line is I got away with a $400 repair. $99 to come out and $300 to replace the coil. I lucked out finding them! A week later and my old unit is still cranking out the cold. Thank you, Nick and Mike, for running an honest business. You could have lied and said replace, but you got me up and running with a small price tag. Use these guys for the best, most honest service around. read more

I was not informed that they would charge a service fee for a quote when I scheduled the appointment through Yelp messaging. If I was, I would not have scheduled as every other company was providing free cost estimates. They recommended a new cooler and provided me with a quote, but I ended up going with another company. We began working with Tradewinds due to their relationship with American Home Warrenty, as we have a contract. This began back in July and after several visits our Heating and Cooling unit was deemed non-repairable, this was mid-August. As of this writing we are still waiting on Tradewinds to tell us what comparable unit is going to be used, to replace our older Rheam unit. But somehow, Tradewinds was able to send us a bill for $5,200 for additional costs, above and beyond our warranty companies costs; $1,500 for electrical work and $1,700 for adjustments to the stand on the roof, plus $2,200 to rent a lift to remove and install the old/new unit. When asked what the electrical entailed, crickets. When asked what adjustments needed to be made to existing stand crickets! Our tenants have had nearly ten days with no air conditioning since August 1st. Nick is the contact who is working with us, but doesn't seem to care enough to answer our questions or get the job done. It appears that Tradewinds has some flat pricing when working with AHS warranty company, where somehow they recover 50% of the entire cost of HVAC replacement. read more

Typical story. I had a guest coming to town and our water heater went out on us. It's the kind that is attached to our heating system so we were concerned about hot water and heat for the house. Nick and his team responded quickly and arranged a time to come out and install a replacement in time for our guest. Great customer service, efficient, and clean. And they are family owned. Thank you so much Pedroza Heathing & Cooling for coming out to the rental property I am selling to do my HVAC checkup to make sure it was in good shape! My unit AC/Furnace were given a good bill of health (unlike the last company that did it when I had a property management company managing my place that charged over $300 for the basic service, then charged for a filter, and then Freon). Mike said that all looked good and just needed a blowout for the dust/particles done for $141...which I had no problem doing. They waive their "visit/Diagnosis" fee if you have them do the work, and for Yelpers they waive their trip/truck charge. There customer service and phone presence were excellent from the first contact with Fred, to the office manager Nick who told me who was coming out and payment/invoicing review, to Mike who was on time, was great with communication, and explained the good bill of health. I felt they were very professional and now that my condo unit is sold I will definitely use them in the future for my residential property instead of using the big boys that my husband used the last time. I am shocked by the good reviews for this business. The only thing stopping me from giving one star is the person Nick on the phone and email over there. I had a small leak from my condensate tube and figured it was the clogged filter. The owner Fred came by same day and diagnosed the problem with a new filter. These things are 60-100$. He tried to charge me over $400 for the install. This was as simple as changing a refrigerator filter. He was here under an hour too. It's 99$ for a service call. So where did the extra $200+ come from? Still leaking too - it was not the filter but some other pipe that he failed to replace. I ordered a part on my own for $60 that he claimed would cost $150 and that was with service call removed. He tried to downplay my previous service company expertise without even opening the boiler to see they cleaned it. In the end I got $200 removed from my bill and still have a leak. So $200 down the literal drain still and nothing fixed... read more

My evaporative cooler wasn't working properly. Although Tradewinds Heating and Cooling was booked with schedule service calls, they put me on a wait list, kept in touch and were able to service my cooler within a very short period of time. Fees were all discussed and explained in advance and I found them to be more reasonably priced than other heating and cooling companies. No surprises or cost increases once the service provider arrived. How nice to have a repair man show up on time!!!! read more

I've had a leak in my A/C system for knocking on 3 years. Every year, I have a new company come out to see if they could find it. To date, none have, until yesterday. Mike came out and ran several tests to find the culprit. He then gave me some options and was very upfront about costing. Not only that, but he also gave me some much-needed education on how A/C units work. I'm originally from England and from those of you who have been there know that we generally do NOT have air con. Unfortunately I have to update my review. After that first positive experience, it's been completely downhill from there. We got upsold $500 to clean our heaters (because it'll make it last longer and run for a while! Insert sales pitch here). And...our heater promptly breaks down right after. Literally right after. We called them back and paid more money to fix heater. The next winter, we turn heat on for the first time and it promptly breaks down again. At this point, we're getting irritated, if the heater needs replacing, just tell us instead of telling us to fix a bunch of things that doesn't work and charge us a bunch of money that never actually solve the issue. By now we've sunk about $1000 into heater repairs. This winter, we turn on the heat and behold! It's not working YET AGAIN. We call them back and it's another $200 (but this will fix it they said) Literally 2 days later, it stops working on the coldest night of the year. Now we're getting pissed, I think we've been pretty understanding up until now. We were understanding when they showed up at 3pm for an 10am appointment without the parts and had to come back the next day. We were understanding when the very next day, they show up late again at 11am for a 9am appointment... We tried to be patient when we rearranged our work schedule to be home and then sit there for hours waiting without a call to tell us they are late... Now we're done being patient. (And by the way, the heater's still not working but they did leave a nice $1000 bill) What they sell you and what you actually get is such a drastic difference. BEWARE!!!! I wish we had gone with our gut and hired another heating company after the 3rd "this will fix it" and it just doesn't. We've spent a lot of money on their recommendations because we trusted them and all that money should have gone towards a new heater if that's what we needed. We have friends visiting tomorrow who will now be sleeping in a freezing room which we cannot allow so we'll now be paying for a hotel for them to stay in. After 3 visits in the past two days and paying a butt load of money, heat still doesn't work and they have not returned our calls when we called to tell them that our bedroom is still freezing and heat isn't on. I found these guys on Yelp and due to the good reviews, trusted them with my business. Since I rely on Yelp, I feel compelled to add my review here. I must have looked just before the review on 11/14 which sounds familiar.... Fred came out for my first issue of potentially moving a furnace and water heater. (That was at least three weeks ago and I still don't have a quote, but I don't want one now). After this initial consultation, I needed someone to re-vent my stove before getting a new roof so I gave him another call to come take a look. He came (about 4 hours late this time with one phone call in there and some BS excuses about traffic on I70 which I can easily check that on my CDOT app - stupid lie, just apologize) to take a look, and came up with a solution, didn't know what it would take but said he would do time and materials, not to exceed $500-600. Fine. He schedules his guys and because I work from home it isn't a big deal.... except when after they are 4 hours late, I call the office. Oh, they thought Fred was going to call me yesterday to reschedule, blah blah blah, they aren't coming. Reschedule for 3 days later. Luckily this will work because the roofers are also delayed. Guys show up - to take a look, not do the work as I was told (even though Fred already looked.... clearly they aren't on the same page). As he's leaving and telling me he will be back on the same day the roofers will start, so there aren't any leakage problems, he also tells me it will be time and materials but probably about $600. Convenient.... I ask him their labor rates which he doesn't know. So, because I feel that I am about to get screwed, I call the office and ask Nick what their time and materials labor rate and markups are. He doesn't know but Fred will call me back. Rigggght. So the day comes, several days after my last phone call, no one has called to tell me when the guys will be here and what I can expect to be charged for time and materials. Call Fred who says they just decided to bill it at lump sum for $600 but if that's a problem, that I can just find someone else. Sure, because the roof is coming and I'm basically out of options. He also tells me their labor rate is $150/hr and they had already spent time looking at it (when they were here the first time and supposed to do the work?), plus, they might have to put a guy up in the small attic. They give me a BS bill with a BS arbitrary number pulled out of some flat rate pricing book for "vent modification" ($450....) plus a truck fee, a "diagnostic fee", materials, etc and "discount" that comes to the magic number of $600 (this is not how you bill time and materials). Still waiting for the actual detailed time and materials invoice but I doubt I will see one. As far as I know, the work was done correctly but we will see. Poor communication (both with their customers and apparently internally) is the biggest problem and had they been clear, I wouldn't be feeling taken advantage of. But alas.... read more

I'm a commercial customer. I was screwed over by another HVAC company (not naming names Laguna's heating and air) they left the job undone and wouldn't warranty their work. I called around everywhere and couldn't fit into anyones schedule for over a week. Was given Pedroza's information and called. Fred told me he could be out the next afternoon and he was. Took a look at my problem and began to fix it. An hour later we were good to go or so we thought. The crappy company before him switched my refrigerant and didn't label it. Fred called me back after researching what could be the possible problem. He came back in and fixed a problem I had been having for 2 months in 3 hours! Fred and his son Mike were very prompt, respectful and professional men. I can't recommend this company enough. Every aspect of my experience with this company was outstanding. Two and a half years ago I purchased my first house. Not knowing much about maintaining my air conditioning and heating systems, I called Pedroza to ask about what constitutes normal maintenance. First call, Nick answered immediately. What a pleasure to get a real person! Nick was kind, patient and gave me all of the information I needed. He was able to send a technician out to my house the next day, which was great for my schedule. When I asked the name of who would be coming to my home, he said that it would either be his brother or his father (now that's a real family business!) He completed a thorough maintenance of both my air conditioning and heating system, all the time explaining to me exactly what he was doing, and what he was looking for. Excellent service! My air conditioning unit stopped working on one of the hottest day in Denver. I had the company who originally installed the Air conditioner come and look at it. They advised me that the whole unit needed to be replaced. The unit I should add, was not old. They were just trying to scam me. I called Pedroza and was so pleasantly surprised that being a new customer, that they would immediately attend to my situation. Everyone I spoke with was very professional and did what ever they could to fix the air conditioning. They did not try to sell me anything I did not need and guess what? These guys are super nice and helpful. I wanted a swamp cooler installed and figured I would need to have it put on the roof, which has a very steep pitch and would have been $$$. They told me for a house of my size that a window unit would suffice. They originally installed one that was underpowered for the house, but they fixed that in short order and now my entire house is downright chilly for a fraction of the cost of running the window A/C units I used to have. Just had a very unpleasant encounter with one of their workers. We were on our bikes, riding through a neighborhood. A big Penske rental truck was parked on the wrong side of the road in front of a house, completely blocking that lane. Then a trash truck pulled in, so the whole road was blocked. My husband yelled that the road shouldn't be blocked. The Tradewinds guy was parked in a driveway and had nothing to do with the encounter, but as we squeezed by the roadblock he sarcastically said, "Quit complaining." My husband said they just shouldn't be blocking the road. The Tradewinds guy said "Aw, just go home." When we started to talk back to him he proceeded to swear at us. Told us "shut the fuck up." Totally unnecessary. He wasn't even part of our complaint about the road block. read more
