I've been food shopping at Trader Joe's for as long as I've lived out here which is from August 2003. Everything about the store is fantastic. Like most Saturday mornings, I visited Trader Joe's (store 636) located at 5605 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803. Because the store is conveniently located near my family which I visit every weekend, I often begin my day at this store location. The store is typically clean, organized and the inventory of my most-purchased items is usually good. However, on 2 occasions I was unable to get the alkaline water by the case. Both times, I purchased the individual bottles, but it is pretty inconvenient for transporting and storing them. At the customer service desk, I requested 2 cases of the water be ordered for me. The less-than-pleasant woman told me that they would order them and then have 2 days to pick them up before they'd be returned to inventory. Two days later, this person left a voice msg on my telephone, which I still have, stating that the 2 cases of water that I ordered was in for me to pick up. The next day (NOT A SATURDAY), I drove 14 miles out of my way to pick up the 2 cases. When I arrived, the manager at customer service picked up 2 bags of loose waters and told me they were for me. I explained that I specifically ordered cases and his response, "there must have been some miscommunications, sorry" as he walks away. My family and friends are always commenting on how kind I am to everyone and the folks at this store have all experienced nothing but kindness from me. When the manager was so cavalier about this situation, I was furious, but still I shrugged and walked out of the store. I didn't say another word and I have not and will not return. read more

I'm a huge fan of Trader Joe's but there isn't one where I live so I figured I would go way out of my way on a trip to hit this up. The great thing that I immediately noticed was that they didn't have wine, not sure why as this location is not in PA but maybe DE has some weird alcohol laws as well. Trade Joes has an awesome frozen foods section. Their Indian frozen foods are packed with flavor and are a great price. The service is always amazing and friendly. Trader Joe's is one of those places that changes what they carry often. So if there is something you like, stock up. This is a smaller location but they pack a lot into the small location. The cashier offered the woman in front of me a free chocolate dipping kit, and I saw she had another one ready to give to the next customer but she didn't offer it to me, because she was sexist and made assumptions about me. [1096] 7/2020 I visited this Trader Joe's location during a time of Covid social distancing. The staff was outside limiting the number of guests that entered the store. The carts were being wiped down. The TJ location is in a strip mall so plenty of parking. The store itself is large compared the ones by me in PA. A lot of hype for prepackaged groceries. It seems they have everything. Either canned or frozen, but not both. I wasn't impressed with the veggie section. I felt it was hard to find simple things. There are a lot of 'dips', frozen foods, pre-made foods. Not really all that healthy when you look at the nutritional facts. Lots of plastic waste. I expected better. I expected a smaller Whole Foods, but it's not... I feel like the people who constantly rave about Trader Joe's, are snooty. I like it but I don't love it. If Costco had a TJ sized grocery store, I'd be all over it. I was impressed with the bread section/cheese. Will I come back? Probably, since they don't have HEB here (Texas based grocery store). The only TJs in the state! You can count on it being busy on a weekend! One of my best friends is vegan so coming to this store is like bringing a kid to a candy store. Prices are reasonable, products are healthy or try to be, and employees like working there (it shows!) They have a nice big parking lot out front and plenty of checkers so you don't ever have to wait long to checkout. They are well-stocked and if you can't find something there are people on the floor more than willing to show you where something is. Can't say enough good things about this location! read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! All staff are very helpful and friendly. This quaint supermarket provides all of the necessities and then some. Most notable are the free drink and foos samples available around the clock. Also, the excellently priced ground beef (80/20), the seasonal Kringle pastry, and the awesome selection of produce. I shop at the Wilmington TJ's when I am working near there. The parking lot gets crazy around lunchtime on weekdays - but other than that the lines are never ridiculously long and the staff is great. So friendly. They have lots of cool "fun" foods at TJ's. read more

My former review was: Always exceptional! Always a peaceful, inclusive atmosphere! I've been going to this location for years now, and I have NEVER been disappointed. Well today, a bagger, Blake with the skinhead hair cut, thought it was amusing to see a Black woman with short hair come into the line. He never said hello, nor did he give eye contact. Why? Because he was too busy laughing. The White family in front of me got smiles, greetings, and well wishes. I was not privy to that professionalism. His cashier, Alex, went right along, barely accepting my money. I was disgusted after so many years of shopping there. I will NOT be back. I called and a manager named, Katie, spoke to me and said that it would be handled....however, she never took my information, so we'll see how that goes. read more

I used to live in Cecil County, Maryland. Would it be a lie to say that I moved to Delco, PA to be closer to Trader Joe's? It was definitely a part of the decision. This TJ's is usually well-stocked, and parking here is way easier than the Media location. Staff is without fail friendly and eager to please. I probably come here about once a week for hummus, Ak-mak sesame crackers (the best!), and other stuff. I *don't* come here for produce or meat, since there are better deals elsewhere, but all the TJ's-specific stuff that you can't get anywhere else is fantastic. read more

This store sets in a plaza next to a few eateries and retail stores; as such, depending on the day the parking can be hectic. However, I just love this place! Fresh flowers always available. New flavors and selections all the time. There's been an increasing amount of vegetarian and vegan options lately. Great prices for organic produce. Most of the staff go above and beyond in their expertise and willingness to assist. You ever walk in a place and say, 'can I just work here once a week?' I mean I go there probably once a week anyway. Tons of selection and you can have samples, as well as fresh hot coffee. Want to give your mouth flavor explosion- try the cookie butter- it's delish! I love the seasonal products as well as their classic products. They do t just sell food def check it the home products and pet needs. If I could marry three stores, they would be (in no particular order): Blick Art Materials, Apple and Trader Joe's. Blick for creativity, Apple for music and technology, and Trader Joe's cause fatty likes to EAT! Now, I recognize I'm biased when I give this store 3 stars because I come from the land of In-N-Out Burger, but I just couldn't honor this TJ's with all 5 stars like I normally would with its west coast counterparts. The produce section was minimal at best, and there were horrible selections of salsa and guacamole. And we all know I base life off selections of salsa and guacamole. The only kind they had came in a plastic bag. Gross. Everything else seemed like a good selection (except for Clif bars... not the widest range of choices). I like Trader Joe's. It is a good market place to get your groceries compared to other chains. Prices are reasonable too. I've been to the one in Jenkintown, PA. In comparison, this location is much smaller and limited of options on the items they carry. Don't let that stop you from discovering new stuff though. You're bound to find something that may catch your interests and curiosity. I suggest avoiding coming here on the weekends because it does get jammed packed congested. Parking can be a hassle. Barely squeezing through the aisles and long lines at checkout. Besides that, everyone is respectful and kind. Stay up-to-date on their website. It's a good resource to introducing you to their new products and items they're carrying, especially with seasonal. Be sure to try out their Turkey Cranberry Apple Salad and Gingerbread Sticks! This is my favorite Trader Joe's store in the greater Philadelphia region. (I work in commercial development so I've had occasion to grocery shop in the Ardmore, Media, Wayne, Marlton, Cherry Hill and Center City Philly locations, as well). Location - Located in a larger shopping center populated with multiple anchor chains, this store is easy to find and easily accessible with multiple entrances off Concord Pike feeding into the parking lot. Parking - There is usually plenty of parking. It can get pretty packed during peak times (weekends, early weekday evenings and the holidays) since it does share parking with so many other businesses and restaurants. Navigating the lot can get a little dicey during those busy hours with pedestrians crossing the lot and cars parking and leaving. Cleanliness - The store (and the bathrooms) have always looked spotless to me. I think part of that is because the staff always appear to be hustling so much that if there is a mess, it gets addressed immediately. Staff - For the most part, the staff is friendly and professional. Between that and the fairly small size of the store, it lends the feel of being in a neighborhood grocery store. I've encountered an employee here-or-there who didn't seem like he/she was playing with a full deck but nothing to complain about. (And I've noticed it in each Trader Joe's location I've shopped in). There are a couple employees who, at times, have come across as being a little gruff or rude but I just chalk that up to a personal quirk on their part. Nothing so egregious as to be worth complaining about. Covid Measures - With Covid, the lines to get in can get pretty long at times but they usually move pretty quickly. Most of the time, I try to go during off-peak hours to avoid them. There is always staff at the front door monitoring store occupancy to allow for social distancing measures. Additionally, they provide each shopper with hand sanitizer and a wiped-down shopping cart before entering. read more

I have two Trader Joe's close to me: this location and Media. I prefer this location much more over the one in Media because it's bigger and parking is way easier. You don't constantly feel like you're in someone's way here, like you would at any other TJ's. That being said, I freakin' love Trader Joe's. Trader Joe's is always my number one stop when I'm running errands. The vibe is so cool and relaxed, and I've never met an employee who didn't seem like they weren't having the best day of their life. Regardless of what's on my list, I always make a beeline to the cheese section. I'm a sucker for a good cheese sample and a majority of the time I'm in luck to find one. There is one employee in particular, Steve, who owns the cheese samples as if it was his life's calling to be a cheese hype man. His positivity seeps into the cheese I'm sure....that's why the samples are always so good. Now don't get me wrong, this Trader Joe's positive attributes span beyond the allure of free cheese samples (and the daily sample of a Trader Joe's product and samples of their coffee).......I swear I don't only stop in for the samples, I do actually shop here. The produce prices and eggs especially are better than what you'll find in any other chain grocery store. They have a wide variety of products that highlight cuisine of different cultures and organic farming so there is always something new to discover. I have never successfully walked out with only the items on my list. This location is small, so it does get crowded. I think it's worth the crowd to find quality groceries at a fair price. read more

I've been shopping here since this store opened and they are managing the crisis so well, keeping their customers and staff as safe as possible. They have senior hours 8-9 a.m. and the shelves are always well-stocked. I can't say enough about this store. This is my favorite store. I can buy fresh veggies and fruit at a great price. The employees are always polite and curious. There are limitations to the selection, so I have to use Food Lion to supplement. The management actually research the businesses they buy from. I was so excited when I moved to the Philadelphia area and found out there as a Trader Joes in Media and in downtown Philly. However, the one in Media is kind of small and the parking is not so great. Philly has parking issues as well. I much prefer this location in Wilmington. Yeah, it takes me a little longer to get there, but the store is bigger and the parking is plentiful. The staff is also super friendly and helpful. When I first started shopping at Trader Joe's I only bought Olive Oil, cheese, and chocolate because I noticed it was cheaper. However, I soon realized that almost everything at Trader Joe's is cheaper than the regular grocery store, and if it's not it's close, and probably better quality. Now I do 90% of all my grocery shopping there and it makes things easier. The products are of good quality, and I feel like I'm shopping somewhere upscale like Whole Foods, but without emptying my wallet. Here are some particular foods I like: Green Thai Curry- in the pouch that you just heat and eat. I usually hate this kind of packaged food, and yes you should not eat it all the time as it has a lot of sodium, but lately with work and school being hectic, I don't often have time to cook. This is a much better alternative to fast food, or a can of soup. The Dark Chocolate Candy Bar with Sea Salt and Caramel- This is divine. I think others must agree because it's not always in stock when I come to get more. Cheese-The cheese selection is really good and only second to the Fresh Market in Glen Mills of the 320 Market in Swarthmore. However, you don't pay those kinds of prices here, so it's good enough for me. Spices-Saffron is only around $5 here, which is so cheap. Olive Oil- Try the Kalamata Olive oil. I use it to make Greek food. It's got a different flavor to it. Olives- Many varieties and way cheaper than the regular grocery store. My favorite food, so I'm in heaven! Pre-made foods (not frozen)- The pre-made salad with the curry chicken with spinach, red quinoa, and coconut dressing is a lunch staple for me now. I'm not a huge fan of the wraps except the turkey and swiss one. My boyfriend always has me buy the "Middle East Feast" which contains felafel, tabbouleh, hummus, and pita bread. I had it once, and it was okay. He seems to enjoy it more though. Produce-tomatoes....try the kumatos (brown tomatoes). They are so sweet and I love them in salads, wraps, or just eating them for a snack. Also, the salad greens are good. They often have deals on local produce from Jersey. Big packs of berries are cheap in the summer. Right now they have really cheap red bell peppers (69 cents each) and winter squash. There are plenty of other things I buy and this is only a sample. The only thing I've not liked from here was the chicken shumai. The texture reminded me of wet cat food, so I would stay away from that and you'll be good to go. Since I shop here every week, I'd say one food I don't like out of hundreds, isn't bad at all, especially considering how particular I am about food. read more

Regardless of how you feel about Trader Joe's the chain, this particular location is very well managed. There are always enough cashiers and everyone is friendly. They've expanded this store's footprint so it is really easy to navigate. The one I go to in Philadelphia is always packed, albeit full of attractive hipster girls, and they are sold out of stuff all the time. It is just too crowded and busy to enjoy shopping there, so I prefer the Wilmington branch even though it is in a strip mall. read more

We have been here a few times and since having more frustration than usual with Whole Foods (which is 3 miles further away) we are frequenting here more often. Our last visit was on 02/28/14. Just got done dinner at Anthony's Coal Fire Pizza (see my review here) and just walked next door to see if anything struck us. Husband picked up a frozen cheesecake (we have yet to try) and some chocolate mint candies & I picked up a container of chocolate covered dried fruit, a small tin of Chocolate Toffee Espresso Beans & a PB&J candy bar. Trader Joe's Chocolate Toffeedd Espresso Beans - Have been buying every brand under the sun of chocolate covered espresso beans for many years. Have had my share of good and horrible. These were simply incredible. Like if I had to choose three things to take to a deserted island with me, this would be one of my things incredible. Who was the genuis that thought to combine a slight toffee crunch and warm taste of toffee with a subtle chocolate and a fresh espresso bean??? Am asking for many tins of these for Easter (right beside the sugarless gum I always ask for!) Now here's where it gets interesting.... (Take a comfty seat and settle in, this might take a few moments but it will be well worth it in the end.) I settled on the couch with a few of these oddly shaped chocolate covered fruit. Dried strawberries, blueberries, apricots and another random fruit. Every one of them tasted off. No fruit taste. No chocolate taste. Began to worry if I read the packaging wrong. Got up, went into kitchen and checked....yep, label says Chocolate Covered Dried Fruit. Just Yuck. I put them and the reciept on the dining room table to take them back. Because, heck, why wouldn't I be able to take them back? My husband interjects and says Why would they take them back? Just because you don't like it you think they are going to take back an opened container that they can't put back on the shelf and give you $5.79 back? I don't think so. The phone number was on the reciept, so I figured what the heck do I have to lose by calling and asking? So I called. Woman that answered the phone says "Yes, we have a taste guarentee - bring it back and we will give you a refund. No problem." So the next morning, before I made my weekly Whole Foods run, I stopped by Trader Joe's to return my item. I walked to customer service, they tell me any open cashier can do the return for me. The cashier and a manger are there so I let them know that my husband thought I was joking. Manager points to a sign in the store, it says "We tried, we liked it. If you don't like it we will take it back." Fast return with money in hand. As I was putting my money in my wallet, the manager hands me a bag of Toffee Covered Butterscotch Caramels and tells me it's on the house with their compliments and not to give my husband any! (Did he look on the reciept and see what else I brought or just randomly chose a chocolately bag of something, who knows and who cares!). I walked out happy and am now bragging about this place to everyone...which IS the best form of advertisement! Kind of felt like I was cheating on Whole Foods...in the good way!! Thank God Delaware has a Trader Joe's. There is no alcohol (or anything containing alcohol, like the seasonal Christmas brandy beans) at this location, due to Delaware law. I believe the closest one with alcohol is in Princeton. Oh well. My staples: Mediterranean hummus; brie and Delice de Bourginon cheeses; organic fruits and veggies for cheap (baby carrots, sugar snap peas, bell peppers, grapes, etc); Tuscan pane; organic peanut butter; Spanish and California Estate olive oils; and various nuts, dried fruits, and trail mixes. I also go a little crazy in October with all the pumpkin madness, and around Christmas with the piles of ridiculous holiday candies and other goodies. Ahhh... looking forward to those. read more

I would like to say that it is possible to really dislike NPR and love Trader Joe's. I will also say that I was introduced to TJ's by someone who loves NPR. Trader Joe's is awesome. They are my favorite grocery store anywhere (I'd happily take them over the local choices Giant, Acme and national chains like Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Wegman's and specialty organic stores) and I love shopping here. TJ's has really good stuff really, really cheap. The tempeh, soy milk, tofu, and cereal (among so many other things) are super cheap. Everything they sell is actually good food. They have really great unique items (I love the frozen veggie combinations, pastas and frozen herbs!) and all sorts of great staple foods. TJ's are small stores, usually 6-8 aisles in my experience. They do not carry national brand stuff (you will not find Campbell's soup here thankfully) so it's not the best place to find household type stuff you'd get a regular grocery store. The only thing I don't love about TJ's is that sometimes they will stop carrying certain things after you've fallen in love with them. This is usually OK because you will find you're also in love with whatever is next to it on the shelf. read more

This has got to be one of my my all time favorite stores! I love this place because they are for the most part reasonably priced and have a great variety of foods. I have been coming here for years and have seen this place become wildly popular over time - so much so that I think they need a larger retail location as the parking lot on a Saturday evening is a nightmare. With that being said, it is well worth the trip if you have never been. I enjoy trying new things, especially when they offer samples and with their return policy - if you don't like it, you can bring it back for a refund - you have nothing to lose! Some of my favorites are the Lobster Ravioli, Chicken and Pork Shu Mai, Pistachio Cookies (to die for), their ready to go salads for $3.99, and their Green Tea with Pomegranate, which is lightly sweetened with Pear juice and Elderberry juice. Elderberry juice is a natural flu remedy and so when I saw this ingredient in the tea, I fell in love with it even more! So now you can drink iced tea and stay healthy at the same time! So yes I like the foods here but my all time favorite product of theirs is the Trader Joe's Nourish Spa Shampoo (and Conditioner). The Shampoo is only $2.99 a bottle and is clear in color and is made with grapefruit extracts and other botanicals. It not only cleans my hair very well but smells so darn good!!!!! Go in and take a sniff, try it and if you are not delighted with it - return it! It's that easy! Dang, I sound like a commercial! LOL Hope this review helps someone! read more

I'm absolutely, positively, in love with this store. I try to go there for everything but, unfortunately, I find that it can't provide me with everything I need at the price I need (mainly toilet paper/paper towels). I love the employees, they are always helpful or upbeat. Their frozen food selection is to die for. I love that they have found a way to make frozen food NOT full of massive amounts of sodium and random ingredients that you cannot pronounce. When I eat their frozen foods, it is almost like I took the time to cook it and freeze it myself (almost). As much as I love the store there are some things where you don't have a lot of choice in what you buy. For instance, there is only one brand of soy-lunch"meat" (Tofurky). Just one brand and one kind. I understand that there may not be many people like me out there but I NEED more options. Good thing I work in Philly and can go to Whole Foods. Also, their produce section seems to leave me wanting more. Let's talk about some of my favorite items. Do you love coffee? There are many, many, wonderful options for the delectable morning drink. There is also a grinder on premises so that you can grind it to your needs. They have a wonderful selection of cheese and bread also. Last but not least, I need to have a shout-out to their soups. Im talking cereals, soups, hummus, frozen pizzas ($4.49 for an Organic pizza that feeds 2 easily? WHAT?!?!). The list goes on. The service? Its what makes this place what it is. The absolute friendliest people imaginable. You just cant explain it. Its like they are you're best friends....that you've never met. Oh how bad I wanted to give Joe's 5 stars, so so bad. As good as their prices are on practically everything, their steaks (Im a huge steak lover), ehhhhhh, come on Joe's, drop that price! I even splurged once to see if its worth the price per pound, and while it was good, it wasnt great. At that price, Ill drive 2 miles down the road to Whole Foods.
