Whoever is in charge of ordering items and keeping things stocked does a terrible job. I have literally thought TJs has run out of items only to find it at the Rockville location. Examples: Tahini Apricot and Pepita salad mix, seed and fruit granola, ginger chews, unsweetened soy milk, asparagus... I've found them at Rockville and then have to place a special order with this store, and then call ahead to hold it and then make sure they actually held the correct item. Such a pain. My hope is the manager(s) or someone higher up will read this and take it seriously because when I raise it in person they always have excuses. Example excuse: people hoard the seed and nut granola. If that's the situation, then order more! Prepare to go home without a few things, ALWAYS. read more

Who knew? Ok, everyone knew. It was just me who still had no idea how nice it was to live close to a Trader Joe's. I've been in the stores a few times before this move, but had never even lived in the same state as one until now. And now here I am, just a few blocks away from this fun little store. I don't drink, so I only notice that this shop does not carry alcohol when a visitor mentions it. I also don't really eat cheese or nuts, and as those are the other popular items here, I really can't compare. What brings me back at least once a week (other than the fact that it is my only walkable grocery store!) is the fact that I can walk into the store at 3pm with no idea for dinner, and can walk out a few minutes later with exactly what I need to make a healthy, filling meal for a reasonable price. The products and portions sold lean towards single people or small families, so I often find that an item will have unrealistic portion sizes suggested. This is partly marketing and partly the fault of nutritional guidelines, but I find that I have to pay no attention to most of the portion suggestions here. Example? They have cookie butter listed as more than one serving. They even suggest that you eat it with things instead of out of the jar with a spoon! Crazy! Better example? Fine. Cauliflower is sold in one pound bags, which list 5 servings. Unfortunately, most of the bag is made of very small pieces, with a few larger florets tossed in. Three of us did well, but I would have had a difficult time with a fourth person at the table. read more

I didn't feel like travelling to the other location so I travelled 30 mins. to this location to return eucalyptus plants because there was no smell. I asked several employees including a manager before I could get someone who was familiar with the plant, uses, etc. One of the female employees rushed over and showed me a plant and rushed off as I was talking to her. I know she was busy working as everyone is but there's nothing more important than helping customer's who are paying money and in need of a product to help with health issues. I found it very rude and I hope mgt. will speak to her and I did bring it to their attention. I may return or just travel the extra 10mins. for good customer service which is hard to find these days. I love Mom's but they don't sell it. I assumed Trader Joe's would be on the same level especially being in Silver Spring. read more

Lots of healthy stuff. More expensive than supermarkets, cheaper than Whole Foods, and some bargains are to be found. Lots of items you you wouldn't have thought would exist, and some groaningly punny names (Avocado's Number Guacamole). Very mellow staff. I wish traffic and parking weren't so infernal for that location. Especially love the Sumatran coffee and the Pounder dark chocolate with almonds - daily antioxidants in one wonderful bite. read more

I buy everything at Trader Joe's, it's my go-to place for groceries usually. So this trader joe has the usual things I like, however, it felt smaller. Not sure if it's actually the same size or if it's actually smaller. Service was quick, but sometimes, I dread standing in line behind someone who takes 10 minutes to check out, and that's what happened to me. Overall, I would still come back. Everything seems up to par! I came here via bus, so I can't really comment on the parking. It is a small complex with Starbucks and a tortilla place. read more

Very friendly workers, although the people in the produce section were slamming boxes down very close to my feet and didn't even say hello! One guy managed to find some rice noodles in the refrigerator section and found me shopping and brought them over to me! Great prices and quick service! This place is very expensive you have to know what you want and how much you're going to spend when you get there! But I do indeed love their organic food! Very satisfying and healthy here! Just make sure when you come here that you have a money goal in mind and how much you're going to spend because they're expensive for no reason! I rather shop at Whole Foods! A gem! You will quickly realize what a rarity this store is across most categories. From the upbeat employees to the chopped and washed produce to the wide variety of frozen foods, whether you're looking for a snack or a full shop, this is great choice. Some details: I usually am able to finish a week's worth of grocery shopping here in under 30 minutes and $60 dollars. In fact, even during this pandemic, I'm surprised how much they've kept their prices to a reasonable limit. In comparison, when I shop at WF, I'll leave with a $140 receipt in my hand for a comparable selection. Having worked at a grocery store, I can say that this location does a fantastic job of keeping helpful and positive staff employed and engaged, where you never have to worry about terrible customer service, long delays, or empty shelves. In all the times I've shopped, it has only been once that they didn't have in stock a product I wanted. And even when the lines have been long, the checkout moves quickly. I find the small store a plus, because I can scoot around fast, but it does lead to drawbacks like not having speciality counters like a larger one might. Also, the parking lot can be a real clog if you don't pick the right time. All in all, I can overlook these slight flaws to see it for what it is, a perfect small grocery store on a budget. read more

I love Trader Joe's on 29. The one in Rockville is good, too. I love the team. They are great. Heroic, actually, in light of C-19. Sure, they find a way to dump a lot of the things I like, but hey! The parking lot is not their fault. Neither are the suburban mom's driving SUVs they can't park. Nor are the entitled customers that behave like the world revolves around them, ESPECIALLY in Bethesda/Chevy Chase, next to St. John's Episcopal. That Trader Joe's doesn't have MORE stores in DC, nor any in PG, does stink... And don't complain about the new hours. It's just for the duration, so cowboy-up, and don't crowd people. read more

Trader Joe's is my friend and one of my favorite places to shop. It has all of the delicious snacks that I probably do not need, but absolutely have to have in my kitchen! Seriously, they have delicious snacks. But, don't worry; there's balance! You can get all the healthy, organic veggies and fruits, but the real action happens in the snack aisles. Also, the staff is friendly and they are really good at making small talk while they're bagging your groceries. However, this location is quite small and lines become backed up into the aisles, which can be frustrating at times. Additionally, the parking lot, at peak hours is bananas! I prefer to park in the back, but even that gets full too. So, though you can never go wrong with Trader Joe's, this location may frustrate you if you don't have patience for crowded stores or parking lot obstacle courses. read more

Hi! I just want to do a shout-out to this lady named Cal. I will not forget her name - Cal from Cali! The only person who has the fabulous hair! Aside from her natural charming, beyond pleasant personality AND efficiency, she was able to assist me with my shopping experience. I appreciated on how she navigated me to the sections of the store, gave me options and shared her experience with the product. She also mentioned that she was new to the team. I saw that she was more than willing to stop what she was doing and help me out. It did not seem at all that it was only her 4th week working at TJ's. Furthermore, on the day of my visit to the Silver Spring store, it was packed. Lines were long. As soon as Cal finished assisting me through the aisles, she grabbed her broom and dustpan and went to open a register. What a busy bee!!! I've been coming here on a regular basis for at least 7 years now, now I'm here about 3 times a week! A few of the employees know me by face and are always friendly, helpful. I've gotten so many recipe ideas/new products from the sample station. The parking lot is small, but that's almost every other TJ's...everywhere. It's less busy after 7:30pm (nearer to closing- and note, they close at 9pm unlike the DC locations at 10pm). Only issue is that they might be restocking or out of a product- the employees are always willing to check for a product in the back for me though! Sunday afternoons, as one would expect, are the worst. I've tried several times and usually end up coming back at another time. Lunch time can be a little busier too. read more

Two stars because the fruit selection, except the grapefruit, is pretty fresh. As a previous yelper noted, the store is not well stocked. I have been having an issue retrieving all the items from my grocery list the last few visits. I inquired about my products to a staff member but received a thoughtless response. My query afforded no diligence, and I was given no information as to the anticipated arrival of my items. I don't feel valued as a customer, and to maintain the integrity of the brand each customer query should be taken seriously. I love Trader Joes in general. But why 4 stars instead of 5? You can only get there by car or a once in a blue moon bus, and the parking is terrible if you go there during the weekends. While I don't see the melodrama posted by the other yelpers, you just need to exercise patience in the small, crowded lot. I usually park in the side or the back - it's often overlooked and less likely to be full than the spaces in front, and it's still a short walk from your car to inside the store. Also, since Maryland has some strange laws regarding alcohol sales, we miss out on their cheap (but surprisingly good) store brand beer and wine. Apart from these shortcomings, this TJs has a special place in my heart for the great shopping experience. It is refreshing to come to a small and friendly grocery store with all sorts of neat stuff at a reasonable price, and for a single person, a couple, or small family, you can do most of your grocery shopping here without spending a fortune. I went earlier today this Sunday, and all the check-out lines were long. However, I waited perhaps 7-8 minutes until it was my turn, and while I was waiting, a cheery employee offered us patient customers oatmeal cookies while we were waiting in line. He said these cookies would make us happy. You know what? He was right! read more

You're thinking, "Oh great, ANOTHER Trader Joe's review..." Insert raspberry, split-blowing noise here. Being morbidly verbose, I'll try to stick to my revelations and leave out the obvious; a task that I may or may not be able to accomplish. You know, I've always wanted to be a Captain... First off, NEVER go to Trader Joe's hungry. You will emerge with bags loaded with snacks and mismatched items that you can never make a meal out of or explain why you bought them. Secondly, if you are like me and like soft fruits, but want the organic kind, stop here and see if they have it. I have never seen organic peaches or nectarines at Whole Foods, so I was very excited when I saw them here because they are on the EWA's dirty dozen list (*see note). Lastly, hubbs and I were here to get all kinds of heat-resistant snacks to send to a good friend of ours that is enduring his third Iraq tour and we loaded up on all kinds of trail mix, seasoned nuts, protein bars because Trader Joe's is really, very well stocked with these kinds of snacks. I was really impressed and so many items looked good. We expected to walk out of here spending over $300, so we were shocked when the screen said $200. Trader Joe's is A LOT cheaper than Whole Foods; oh man! *The Environmental Working Group has a "Dirty Dozen" List of Fruits and Veggies that average the most pesticides on them and always recommends that you buy these organic. My husband and I like going to Trader Joe's because they have a different product mix than Whole Foods or Harris Teeter's or Safeway. We wish they would carry more organic produce and meats. But most of all, we wish that the older white guy, fast-moving, aggressive manager/owner would learn some manners and patience. My husband has Parkinson's Disease and is a little slower than others, but is highly intelligent. This manager/owner watched as he got coffee. When he had trouble with the canister, the man shouted, "Don't break it", making my husband nervous. When he tried to put coffee & half & half in, the man harassed him about how much he put in. I recall another visit when the same employee, and what I think is the manager, was loudly complaining to everyone that the store was too crowded. I don't think an owner would complain because he would be making more money. It'll be a cold day before we go back there. read more

Generally the Columbia Pike store has the same goodies as other of their stores at the same great prices. Staff are pleasant and hardworking. What would really make my day is buying all of my groceries in one stop. However, I have to get back in the car to shop another store for the produce section. This Trader Joe's displays stuff that looks good but softens or goes brown within a few days in refrigerator. Lady Apples - half the bag brown within a week. Organic bananas - yellow and ripe looking but hard and brown within, so much so that half of each one was inedible. Before buying, you have to check out the mini-carrots in bags to make sure they're not mushy. read more

I love TJ's! This store is a great place to get basics and discover some new items. Their milk is the lowest priced (compared to Giant and Whole Foods), and their sliced turkey keeps me alive!! I also like their big selection of 'treats' like the cookies and candies (Trader Joe's Brand). I am also addicted to their organic corn chips. Anyway, the location. I like this little section of SS for some reason. This strip mall also seems to actually have some character! I think it is just the neon signs. Who knows. As with all Traders, the decor is a little tacky, but who really goes to a grocery store for that. Trader Joe's is a good little grocery store with some unique products and low prices. If there was ever a 'cool' grocery store, this is it. read more

The issue with every Trader Joe's everywhere is overcrowding. TJ's has a great product and people flock to it--but someday, they're going to have to come up with a long term solution for handling that volume. This location in particular is a disaster. The parking lot is well overcrowded at any reasonable (non-working) hour (tip: try out back), and the checkout lines are backed up through the isles. This part of town is clearly underserved by other grocery stores (such as the abominable Safeway down the street), so this TJs could be literally twice as big and still be jam packed. That said, this location has what most every other one has, including the great prices. The service has also been about as friendly as it can be under the circumstances. I was here once on a Saturday night--because I'm that cool--and got free cookies from the staff. That kind of thing really is nice. ...but unless your social calendar permits grocery runs at prime time, good luck getting any use out of this TJs. read more

It's a Trader Joes. What stands out about this particular store are two things. 1- The staff are extremely friendly. I mean they are so nice they made me reevaluate my love affair with fatalism until I left the store and reentered the dark and vastly cruel world outside. 2- The Parking lot is a lot like a scene from Mad Max; just replace savage wasteland scavengers with the run of the mill pent up suburban Marylander and you'll have a pretty good idea what's in store for you. read more

The three stars are relative to OTHER Trader Joes. This TJs is probably the worst I've ever been to, but that's more of a comment about how awesome many other TJs are. The produce section, while never TJs strong suit, is woefully stocked here. There were several products, beloved back home, that I couldn't find here -- it's on the small side. And, I think the most jarring difference between this TJs and the best TJs is the meat section, which is about half the size of a normal TJs meat section. I will say that my understanding of normal is based on a more "suburban" understanding, so I don't really know how this place stands up to urban, city center TJS. Maybe it's amazingly huge. But, you know, Silver Spring IS a suburb. But, the staff were very nice, I was able to get Candy Cane JoJos Ice Cream (um, yes please), and I had no issues with the parking lot. read more

The parking lot is horrible!!! There is too much traffic for such a small center. The shopping carts are just everywhere and people park any kind of way. If you want dents and dings in your car go here. The staff is hit or miss......sometimes they are helpful and other times, they are rude. Came to this Trader Joe's this morning 9/2/2021 and literally had the best customer service from your staff ever! This locations always amazing but this morning Anna told my 2 yo about a penguin search for stickers, I come here all the time and never heard of it until today. Then we get in line and was assisted by this amazing guy I forgot his name but he has a cool mullet like hairstyle and an amazing personality! Good job Trader Joe's! read more
