This was my first time at this Trader Joe's location, and I like it quite well! It was clean and easy to navigate, with lots of goods. I was hoping to find a couple of new cheeses I'd seen on social media, and sure enough, they had them and several other tasty-looking things as well. It was busy on a Saturday but there was no line, so I was in and out fast. Note that like other stores in Minnesota, the alcohol section is in a separate area with its own checkout. For example fresh Italian chestnuts should be inspected or removed, way over 50% of them are spoiled (mold) inside when sold, not just once but repeatedly and over the years. We shop at Trader Joes in Rochester during our annual Mayo follow-up (1400 miles roundtrip). As a result, my order focuses primarily on pantry items (think bottles and jars). This year's trip amounted to just shy of $300 (no alcohol). Just like all the previous years, the cashier was friendly and talkative and never complained about the order size. And, as always, other staff members chipped in to help bag. All the heavy items were double bagged and chocolate items were packed with cold items. They asked if I needed assistance to my car and when I declined, told me to just catch an employee in the parking lot if I changed my mind. The store is immaculate. My friend and I were chatting over lunch. She let me know that Rochester now has a Trader Joe's and a Costco. If you had a limited amount of time to spend in a city that you once called home, and you are a Canadian who has to choose whether you want to go to Trader Joe's or Costco, which store would you choose? To me, it was an effortless decision and I chose the former. This Trader Joe's is across from Macy's at Apache Mall. After spending some time shopping at the mall, I drove over to check Trader Joe's out. It has taken me a while to figure out what used to be where Trader Joe's currently is. I vaguely remember it as Linen & Things. I do remember Chuck E. Cheese that remains next to it! It was busy at around 5 pm. That's Rochester for you! I parked a bit further way and walked in. On the left is a huge wine room. I've never seen anything like it. It's a room, folks, with a separate entrance! I didn't need any booze, so I headed over to the right where all the food and groceries are. My original thought for dinner that evening was to grab something at Fazoli's, which is where I used to get spaghetti and meatballs through a drive-thru. I always liked that idea of good, fast pasta. Well, I threw that idea out the door when I ended up in the frozen Asian foods section. I found bags of pork potstickers and soup dumplings. I have a huge weakness for them. I knew that I would be heading back to my hotel room and having them for dinner. This was my second trip to a Trader Joe's during my vacation. I had a few mini Thai tea mochi left in the freezer. They are made of coconut milk, so they are dairy-free. I bought the other dairy-free mini mochi in mango at this store. The desserts and baked goods continued to taunt me. They all looked so yummy. I wanted the brookies, tiramisu, cookies, mini cheesecakes, ... you name the dessert and I eyeballed it. Reality set in that I was only here for a couple of days more. So, I moved on. This store is clean and bright. Everything is nicely stocked. The aisles are wide and everyone seemed relaxed, even though the place was buzzing. I had a nice man cashing me out. He was from northern Iowa, heading back home on the weekend. I paid using cash. He bagged my goodies in a sturdy brown paper bag. I wished him a good night. He reciprocated. I got back to my hotel an hour later. I made the soup dumplings first. They were authentic and delicious. I was impressed! They didn't taste frozen at all. The broth was perfect. The dumplings were juicy. The wrapper holding everything together was thin and perfect. I then had some pork dumplings. Wow! They also tasted authentic. The wrapper was also thin. The pork filling was flavourful. I was incredibly pleased. I then had the mini mango mochi. I dare you to say that fast five times in a row! They were delicious and refreshing. It's tough deciding whether I like the mango or Thai tea the best. It's a tie. It's funny that Rochester has more interesting, cool stores since I left the city. See, it was a blessing in disguise. I love this TJ's because I always find parking, the aisles are big enough for multiple people to walk through, and the employees are so friendly and talkative. And best of all, I find products here that I can't find at other smaller TJ locations in the Twin Cities. For example, dolmades / grape leaves - didn't expect to see those in the aisles but I'm so glad I found them here ! Not only that, but the price couldn't be beat as well. I would have to pay double the amount at a place like Whole Foods. My only regret is that I don't come often enough. But when you live in the Cities, you would think that other TJ's have a large selection like this one does. I only hope that more of them in the Cities can expand their products to have as many items as this one does! In the meantime, I will just have to keep coming down to Rochester once in a blue moon and keep adding this store to my rotation. :) read more

First time here. The layout is a little different than other Trader Joe's stores. Seems more spacious too. A nice sized proper parking lot too. I was over an hour from home so didn't really buy much to be refrigerated or frozen. I picked up 2 bags of frozen Japanese fried rice. The cashier was real nice. Take exit 53 off Highway 52 to access this store. In the same strip mall as a defunct chuck e cheese. read more

A line wrapped around the side of the store was easily forgotten when we reached the entrance and met some of your amazing employees. I realized I had somehow lost my mask at out last stop and asked one of the greeters if there were any disposable ones available. He said unfortunately not but walked off and came back with an ADORABLE and comfy cotton mask in a Hawaiian print which was super cool considering we were visiting from Hawaii! These masks are meant for employees and aren't for sale but you all were kind enough to spare TWO for me and my husband! Such a great gesture of "Minnesota nice" meets "Aloha"! Love, love, love this store. I went in for pomegranate seeds from the produce dept and walked out with multiple treasures. They had good quality greeting cards for 99 cents. The floral section was gorgeous and cheap! I found some great Brie for less than I would pay at HyVee. Produce was amazing. Not only did I find my pomegranate seeds but also found fresh, shelled edamame beans for a song. The decadent treasures abound too. I stocked up on dark chocolate covered ginger and espresso beans. The staff is amazing. If there is any kind of line, they quickly open another cash register. read more

It is fabulous that Rochester got a Trader Joes.....I finally got a chance to swing in here and check this location out...first of all---love that they have a ton of parking close to the door...... This Joes is huge inside and has lots of room to push many carts down the aisle....I really appreciated and noticed this...because sometimes it is like a sporting event coming out of TJ's alive and unscathed because people get rude sometimes.... The bread was displayed very well and I know they carry mostly the same stuff at all locations but perhaps due to the room I noticed new things and made new discoveries. I tasted the mandarin orange chicken on the demo table and yummmmm... Love the chocolate potato chip like candy...addicting.... AND they have arborio rice for 2.59 and the local grocery wanted almost 8.00 for some.... This location has hard liquor also and it seems trader joes now has a brand exclusive on some types of liquor---i noticed vodka of the Gods and rum of the Gods...etc.etc. They had some nice choices in vodka and rum....and cheaper than the regular liquor store.... I spotted this Trader Joes when we got off the freeway. We actually just finished a 12hr drive from Buffalo, NY and to my surprise there was a one in Rochester. I told my friend that before we drive back, I need to do some damage (shopping) there. He stressed that it had to be quick because the drive back home would be brutal. Normally i pickup tons of snacks which are above the coolers in the middle of the store. THose little candies and sweets is where I do most of my shopping. The kind of shopping I do there is alot of omiyage to bring back home and share with family & love ones. So i get in, get a basket and do some speed shopping. I pickup my usual things i need, first and foremost is the Cookie Butter regular and the crunchy version. those two are a Must. I picked up 3 bottles each. Next is the ginger snaps cookies, and then the Belgian cookie waffles, other things that are must when going there is the Maple leaf cookie and then recently they have a speculoos cookie which is like a MUST get item. Glad I was able to do $75 of damage to my wallet in about 15mins. Very worth it for sure. Over all the staff is very very friendly, i think it recently open too, so its nice & very clean. One of the best Trader Joes I have visited so far. read more

Went to this Trader Joe's while I was in Minnesota and on my way back home!! Love this Trader Joe's!!! It seems much bigger than the other TJ's I've visited. There is so much room in there, and even if they are really busy, you still have so much room to get around and not feel so crowded, which is a PLUS because every TJ's I've been in, for the most part, is usually VERY busy!!! It not unbearable!! It has a tad bit of sweetness which is perfect. Goes great on tacos!!! I might fix some grilled chicken and add some other things to it to make it a meal! I've ordered food from Trader Joe's but never actually gone into a store before. I was quite tickled with the opportunity, honestly. Is cookie butter not a thing anymore? They seemed out. I looked down every aisle. I was going to ask, but then I had to leave in a hurry to be somewhere as I had lost track of time. I did however pick up some awesome finds. I got some pumpkin pasta and sauce, some windmill Almond cookies, their peanut butter cups are the very best, some chocolate animal crackers, beets and sweet potato crackers, And I've never been to the store before so when I went to check out I didn't know what to do and I started bagging my items in a paper bag. I must've looked confused because the lady who is wearing the most awesome cosmic shorts first of all complemented my super festive fall outfit and then asked if I needed guidance. I've been to a lot of Trader Joe's in a lot of different cities, and this relatively new store in Rochester is very nice. The store is spacious compared to a lot of other locations, and it's easy to maneuver through the aisles. For those not familiar with Trader Joe's products, I'll mention a few I purchase regularly and recommend: Yogurt cheese slices, whole-wheat pasta, tomato-basil pasta sauce, organic polenta, whole-wheat couscous, assorted organic canned beans, pita chips, sundried tomatoes in olive oil, extra virgin olive oil, kalamata olives, savory baked tofu, brown jasmine rice...I could go on and on! Maybe Trader Joe's is different from the typical grocery stores you are accustomed to, but if you give it a try, I think you will find some products that you won't see at other stores at really good prices. read more

I would like to first say this is the first Trader Joe's I have ever been in ever. Second, the local newspapers and many many "fans" of Trader Joes locally made ALOT over this store coming to Rochester. That said, I had high hopes for this place. I went in hoping for a Byerly's/Lunds feel. a place for the food-a-holic to get ideas and the products to implement said food ideas. I was very unimpressed with the look of this place. If I am going to pay 10 dollars for something I can get at Hy-Vee for 5 dollars-i want 5 dollars worth of glam factor. You will not get it here-it is an overpriced Aldi. And that may very well trip your trigger-but with prices going up on everything-I am pretty disinterested in TJ's selection. I was glad I went in to check it out, but will not be back. I didn't even make a purchase sadly-I love to spend money, but when you have to force yourself to find something interesting, it's time to give up. Just hope our Rochester shoppers support Trader Joe's, because there is a history of getting amped up about a business and then the honeymoon ends a la World Market, Romano's Macaroni Grille, Centerplace Galleria, and Econo Foods. read more

I'm surprised by the negative attitude about TJs. I shop here strategically. I don't buy everything at Trader Joe's, but I buy the stuff that would cost more elsewhere. It's certainly not an "overpriced Aldi" (though they are owned by the same people). The parking situation is a little sketchy though; I'm often worried about somebody backing into my car in the lot filled with Chuck E Cheese moms and dads. GOOD STUFF: Dairy, fresh meats, deli meat and cheese, Lactaid milk, prepackaged foods (like olives, snack crackers, etc), wine and beer, (real) maple syrup, chocolate, fruit jam, etc. are all a great deal at Trader Joe's. The flower section is usually a great deal, too, as are the parbaked breads and pre-chopped lettuce. This is the stuff I pick up there. In the winter, they have fresh fruits and veggies nobody else around has, but they are more expensive than other grocery stores. BAD STUFF: Don't buy the pre-prepared foods; those are a rip off at every grocery and never taste good anyway, no matter where they're from. Learn to cook! Fresh fruits and vegetables aren't a very good deal here (more expensive than down the road at HyVee), but they are a nice option in the winter when other stores have limited availability. I'm awfully glad we finally have a TJ's here in Roch so I can get my fill of staples at a decent price. read more

Being a person who hates grocery shopping, I found this place kind of fun. Lots of stuff you wouldn't find at Hy-vee, like massive wine selection. Their 3 buck chuck wine is great. Large selection of gourmet and organic type food. Their produce seems good too.I bought a guacamole mix that turned out great with their fresh avocados and tomatoes. I have to put in a good word for Trader Joe's, one of my favorite grocery places from back East. I was happy moving to Rochester to know that this would be here, although as it turns out Rochester has a number of good grocery places, which are all special for different reasons. The same is true for TJ's. Don't go here to buy produce, buy that at the co-op or the farmer's market. Do not go here looking for some specific brand you normally like to buy - TJ's keeps prices low by putting its own brand and packaging on everything. Examples of great things that you can find at TJ's: - $2.99 Charles Shaw wine, it's not half bad! aka "Three Buck Chuck"! Now that we have real jobs we don't buy Charles Shaw anymore, but we always buy 2-3 bottles of wine that is priced at $5-$10 while we are at TJ's. They do tastings on the weekends. - $2.99 Trader Joe's O's High Fiber Cereal. All the TJ brand cereals are cheaper than what you'd get at other stores, and they're yummy. The TJ's O's are cheap, addictive, and boy, will they keep you regular. - The frozen dal makhani. I don't know how much it costs, but it's the best vegetarian frozen dinner I've ever had. This is better than the dal makhani at India Garden OR India Curry House, which isn't saying much. Final plugs for a few special yummy things: the freeze dried fruits (not just dried, freeze dried!! makes them better), especially mango. The banana chocolate chunk protein muffins. The truffle brownie mix (Consumer Reports 2011 winner for best tasting brownie mix, $2.99). I only wish that there wasn't such turnover of the items, sometimes I fall in love with something that only they make, then they stop making it. They used to make a Macedonian dip called Pinjur and discontinued it - no one else sells this stuff. read more

I was in two Michigan (Northville and Grosse Pointe) Trader Joe's last week and could not help but notice how much better their plants and herbs were than ours in Rochester, MN. Why such a difference both in volume and quality? They had absolutely stunning basil and mint plants to name a couple. Ours are small and quite pathetic looking. One of the smaller Trader Joes I've been to but excited it's here in Rochester. Didn't expect to see one. As far as Trader Joes goes it has the same items available. Only issue I have is the lack of pre-made food items. I.e salads, meals for one, burrito fixings. I specifically shopped at this TJ because I was looking for a healthy dinner to eat in my hotel room. Lots of fast food and chain restaurants in Rochester. This TJ didn't really have meals for one like my regular TJ in Chicago. Oh well they did have their regular brand of frozen meals so I could at least enjoy some Chicken Tikka Masala. Friendly staff and plenty of parking available. Absolutely awful experience- for the second time. I understand "precautions" for COVID, but the staff at this particular location have taken it too far. The first ridiculous experience I had here was about 2 weeks ago when I was left out in the pouring rain with my 8 month old daughter- refused to be let inside (not even in the entryway)- because they had reached their max capacity within the store. Thought I'd give them another chance today and upon walking in and politely refusing hand sanitizer, I was stepped in front of by the employee and she still squirted hand sanitizer onto me. It was a spray sanitizer and got onto my face. This is unbelievable, inappropriate, and invasive. Trader Joe's, you have lost my business. read more

Your average Trader Joe's, which means it's awesome. The prices are decent (some things even cheaper than hyvee). I'm disappointed in their vegan meatless meat options. They have one kind of tofurkey, meatless meatballs And some meatless burgers. Hyvee and natural grocers have a way better collection. What a refreshing place to go for groceries. I was amazed at the selection of organic and gluten free products that they carry. And they are much cheaper than shopping at the local health food store. The staff there are so friendly and went out of there way to help me find the organic foods I was searching for. High energy, refreshing atmosphere which is such a nice change from a regular grocery store. read more
