That Crossroads location I had put up there as being competitive to some of the better stores in my area, which is pretty high praise, as the stores where I am, as mentioned, are generally quite good, but this location...I will be blunt. This location needs to hire someone who actually understands how to lay out a grocery store, instead of creating a maze that artificially keeps people in the store longer. If I wanted to be stuck somewhere artificially for no reason, I'd drive through the toilet that is Iowa. Selection also did not live up to the hype, though that is not Hy-Vee's fault, but rather the person who suggested this granddaddy of them all store could be the answer to my prayers and so on...if it is better than the Crossroads, it is only marginally.

I ended up getting a case of ramen noodles because I have always loved eating them growing up. While checking out my old neighbourhood, I swung by to check this market out again. The Chinese restaurant that I never frequented is still in this plaza, across from this store. I believe that this market took over another store and tore down a wall. It's definitely larger than I remember it to be. I parked and walked inside. I loved seeing all ingredients to create your own banh mi. The snacks looked good, from shrimp flavour chips, to roasted seaweed. I was happy. The man cashing folks out asked me if I needed any help. I was browsing and reminiscing. I was good. I ended up getting a box of Choco Pie. Each pie is individually wrapped. Chocolate and banana work nicely together. I ended up bringing half of them back to Canada because my eyes were bigger than my stomach. I found Korean ramen and decided to give it a try. I got the mild flavour, which had a bit of a kick. I loved how chewy the noodles were. Full marks for them. You can only pay with a credit card if your total is at least $10. Thankfully, mine was. My credit card transaction worked nicely. The man was personable and helpful. We wished each other a great night as I happily headed to my car with my purchases. The Cub grocery store on NW Scott Road in Rochester is gorgeous - clean and spacious and…read morewell-marked so you can easily find what you need. It reminds us of the more "boutique" grocery stores found in the Minneapolis area, such as Lunds & Byerlys. They have a great selection of gluten-free items that we haven't seen since moving to the Midwest. Their produce section is amazing, with everything you could possibly want, including more obscure things like yucca and taro root. They also have a huge aisle full of imported products from all over the world. If you can't find it here, it doesn't exist! Their "drugstore" area also has everything you could possibly need. There's also a Cub liquor store a few steps away, which offers great stuff we've never seen. Unfortunately the grocery store is tucked away near an enormous Costco (we do not belong to Costco), so I imagine they take away customers who may prefer a store like Cub. But if you like a relaxing nearly magical shopping experience, stop in at the Cub on NW Scott Road because you will be amazed by the selection!

The berry bowl was phenomenal: overnight oats, acai, coconut, cashew-almond butter, blueberries, strawberries, and goji berries. Delicious and healthy.
