I've had a few bad experiences here due to the employees and likely, poor training and instruction. First, during the pandemic when there were elderly hours I was held up by an employee who had to check with his supervisor about letting pregnant women in with the elderly. I told the employee that I called ahead of time and was told that pregnant women fall under Immunocompromised. Employee Joe said it was okay after making me wait outside and making me feel like I'm trying to cut the line. "No, I called ahead and wanted to get food to feed myself and my unborn child." Second, I called ahead of time to see if there was a seasonal item in stock. I was told it was in and when I asked if it was on the shelf, I was told yes. It takes me 45 minutes to get to Trader Joe's, so this is why I call ahead of time. I arrive at the store, don't find it on the shelves. I ask a crew member, was told to check the pumpkin area, not there. The helpful crew member asks the front desk. They mumble something about Janine, again. They didn't have the item and said they won't get it for another couple months. Gee, that would've saved me a long drive. Third, I remember having to hunt down a crew member to ask about stock. Apparently customers needing assistance isn't too important and it's ok to clearly ignore a customer in need. I like Trader Joe's. This store isn't the best in terms of service and knowledge. Don't rely on calling to see if an item is in stock. Also, don't rely on information when calling in. Why offer call on service if it's just going to be wrong? read more

Always great finds at Trader Joe's. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Their wine selection is great, they have a lot of everything at every different price point. They floral selection is great too, again, something for every different price point. The latest and greatest find I have recently purchased is the pizza crust that is the length of a surfboard. Well, not really but you can top your crust and both skins fit side by side on my cookie sheet to go in the oven. You get two per package so I can make mine how I like it and my husband can make his own. read more

January 6th I had my wallet stolen from my cart as a man walked up to me to distract me. I am always very careful, keeping an eye on my purse but this was a planed robbery. I was coming from Kaiser hospital after very long days at my elderly fathers bedside as he recuperated. I was bringing my mom home to stay with me since my dad was in the hospital and I needed groceries. When I realized my wallet was stolen I asked the manager to look into his cameras so we could see who had stolen my wallet and he said they did not have cameras. He acted as if he was not concerned. When I went to my bank to close my accounts the bank manager told me that one of her customers had her wallet stolen the previous week from the same Trader Joes in Modesto. Please be very careful with your purse! All these big stores need to make sure they have cameras to protect their customers!!! read more

Of all the things I've taken for granted when I lived in California, Trader Joe's takes top high on the list! Half an hour before they closed, I swooped right in. Three steps in, and I already wanted to buy everything! Oh my god.. whoever put those toffee candies on display put the biggest sweet tooth in my mouth! How could I pass that up?!? Before I knew it, I had it in my hand. Next, I found sipping chocolate in a tin. That ended up in my other hand. Then, I found Christmas advent calendar full of different artisan chocolates! That found its way under my arm. Looking left and right, things kept finding their way into my grasp. I was a juggling performance! Of course, it just so happened that just as one staff worker walked past me I dropped a bag of chips that slipped through the curls of my fingers. She graciously helped me, "Oh, no! You need a basket for all those things!" At which I replied, "Oh, no.. then I will just buy more things!" "There's nothing wrong with that!" she exclaimed. And, of course, I tossed at least three more items to the bunch: tea tree hair conditioner, skin salve, and ginger ale. I had walked into the store with an agenda of only purchasing tea. I walked away with a larger sweet tooth, Christmas presents, souvenirs... and did I mention that I found non- dairy chocolate ice cream made with coconut milk?!?!?!?!? read more

Wow this store is exceptional. It was definitely worth the drive from Manteca to Modesto. This place is large. And the prices OMG no freaking way CHEAP. Almost like Food Max or Food For Less price point with better food. The layout of the place has great flow. I was able to find what I wanted really quick because of it. The staff is friendly and was willing to help me with my groceries to my car. When they saw me with my toddler. Since there was two bags of groceries. I was ok without the extra help. I appreciate the customer service from it. So Thank you so much. I will be back. Cons: You'll end up going broke. Shared parking lot since it's at a strip mall. It's located on a busy area. Customer service is always real good. Today wife went to return an oil that had the seal broken and they noticed that it leaked in her shopping bag so they gave her a new one. The ready to eat salads and wraps are good. Very good quality produce and awesome beer and wine selections. The big loaf of wheat bread is the best. read more

TJ's ala Modesto...the usual packed and small parking lot greets you as you surface in search of that grocery store and so much more as a staple of much of CA. Entrenched in a strip mall, this TJs is a bit small, but contains all one wants of the conveniences of quality that the Joe's are so fond of offering. The store as usual is packed with patrons, picking up everything from the freshest of veggies and fruit, to the ready made meals for bachelors and bachelorettes, and everything in between labelled with the usual TJ themes. TRADER JOES TRANQUILITY TRAUMATIZED! Generally, I go off-peak to this store, and now I know the fringe benefits of this, such as lower concentration of Psycho, Demented, or Annoying co-shoppers. Just the other day, after work, I tried to check out the Cheese/Meat/Prepared Food section and there were two fools there who appeared to think that CHEESE SELECTION EITHER INVOLVED A PUBLIC DISCUSSION WITH WHOMEVER PASSED BY AND/OR WAS MORE COMPLEX THAN A MIDDLE EAST PEACE TREATY. Since I was wearing my Beaver Fur "Russian" Hat and looked even more Psycho than they were, they did not speak to me...but still were in my way. Therefore, I looked at stuff on either side of them until they eventually left. Later, while I was looking for the freshest and cheapest jumbo Yogurt, some demented lady, who looked 90 billion years older than I did, started to yell at some poor middle-aged guy there with his Elderly Father, who could barely walk, because of stroke (and was equally old), over a damned parking spot, that he allegedly "stole" from her outside. The Demented lady also could barely walk, but still looked like she was ready to bite or fight someone. Since I used to work in Nursing Homes, you have to be ready with meds, soft restraints, and keep you limbs from their mouths. SHE LOOKED RABIDLY DEMENTED AND I PRAYED THAT THIS WOULD BLOW OVER TOO. Thank god it did! After I finished shopping, I was checking out at the cashier and thought I was home free. TO MY SHOCK, THERE WAS NOW A YOUNG FOOL COMPLETELY PUNKED OUT (WEIRD HAIR, NOSE RING) WITH AN ATTITUDE ABOUT MY COFFEE BEHIND ME. "Are those 6 cans of Coffee all yours"? she asked like if I was a caffeine fiend. I stated that I liked to stock up for a few months (obviously to avoid Psycho's like you). She obviously had a problem with this and said, "Well you can get coffee a lot cheaper at Shop & Save". SINCE THIS APPEARED TO BE A LOUD PUBLIC DISCUSSION ABOUT MY FRIGGING COFFEE, I stated calmly," Well I really love their Dark coffee from Sumatra, that they got here" (e.g.- for only $4.99 a whole bean can). God all mighty, I was so glad to get out of there the other day, and learned never to go there straight from work. It is best to go there about 7-8:30 pm, after the Psycho-rush has passed. I used to work as an Ice-cream store manager, and these rushes can be very unpredictable at times, but you still try your best to ride them out. Here is the stuff that I like at Trader Joes with a Crappola scale (1=horrible to 10=great) IMHO, after each one: Yogurt tubs=9; Cheese wedges=8 (slices=rip-off$); Sausages=7; Coffee/Sumatra=9-10; Coffee/Expresso=9; Almond/Flax seed butter=9; Maple Syrup=8; Olive oil/Balsamic Vinegar=7 (TJMaxx has better); Eggs=9; Milk=8; Butter=8; Fresh Carrot/OJ=5 (rip-off$); Fresh Veges=5-6 (too small & rip-offs$, O'briens or Farmer's Market better); Breads=6; Cake/Pie=5 (rip-off$); Wine=7-9 (German whites/Muscat are great buys, Costco can be better for others, 2buck chuck is OK for parties I guess); Organic soaps/vitamins=6; Organic candles/toilet paper=2 (you are shitting me right, ripoff$$$$$); Chocolate Huge Bars=10; Fancy Cookies/Sweets=6-8 (fun, but pricey); Nuts=8; Cereal=7; Canned/Bottled Stuff=6-8 (good fish, soups, sauces but pricy); Boxed Soup=7; Bagged Chip-like stuff=5-6 (popcorn=ripoff, rest is pricey); Bottled Fruit Juices=2-5 (really big ripoffs here with only minimal fresh quality juice in mixes) ; Big Prepared Dinner pack=8-9; Small prepared food/salads=5 (ripoff pricing). Oh, and cute little x-mas trees,plants=8-9. JUST LIKE ALMOST EVERYWHERE ELSE, THEY HAVE STARTED TO REALLY CHEAPEN MANY THINGS IN THE STORE, WHERE THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH IT, WITHOUT MOST PEOPLE KNOWING. I hardly see anyone actually read the ingredients or look at the nutritional label. I still love going there for select items that cannot be found elsewhere or close by. LET THE BUYER BEWARE! Trader Joe's is one of those places that I should go to more often. It's so weird. One day I'll just start thinking about something that I've purchased there and then I simply must have it (artichoke tapenade). After I go to TJ's I will tell myself that I need to shop here more often. But for some unknown reason I then forget about TJ's until another craving (hummus) hits me. Anyway, when I finally find my way back to TJ's, I have a few items that are necessities, not luxuries. ;) In no particular order: 1. Artichoke Tapenade: OMG, so good. I love to spread it on a baguette slice. Yum! 2. Frozen gnocchi: I cannot remember the exact name but it is located in the frozen food section. It has a red tomato sauce and cheese on it. You just open the package up, place it in a pan with the teensiest amount of water and heat it up. Soo good. 3. Hummus: It's pretty difficult to mess up hummus, but I love the different varieties that they have. I especially love the hummus sampler. Perfect for a party. 4. Frozen Naan bread: not as good as your fave Indian restaurant, but a must have if you are experiencing a Naan bread craving and don't want to make the trek to a restaurant to get your fix. 5. Tortilla chips: I am addicted to their tortilla chips. They are they closest I've ever found to tasting like they could be served at a Mexican restaurant. And they always have what is needed. I see a lot of form comments on Trader Joe's produce not being great so I don't get my produce their so I can not speak on that. read more

Still love my TJ's and hope they never close it down. I suspect that will never happen since I can rarely find parking near the store and it always seems to have people crowding the aisles I want to be on! The staff continue to bring a smile to my face and are very helpful when I can't find something. Sometimes their merchandising can be confusing especially when some of the featured items in the Fearless Flyer are on my list but I can't fault them for that when they're working with a smaller footprint. Good old Trader Joe's. Went into the Dale Road location with the intent to only buy flowers, but, yet again, bought what groceries we needed at the time. Why? Because their flowers are "the best" and freshest, and same for eggs and produce. And the employees are so friendly. We are not into organics, but if you are, this is the place as they offer both options and do have more extensive organic selections that found at main-lime grocers. I love Trader Joe's. Lots of healthy and organic options to supplement my regular grocery list. There really is something for everyone here. It's a common misconception that the store items are expensive, but that's just not the case. Just a few of our favorites are the whole wheat lavash bread, speciality sliced cheeses, ALL the hummus flavors, spicy black bean dip, heirloom tomatoes, garlic chipotle salsa, basmati rice, chia, the single serving veggie lasagna, potstickers, and the tomato and roasted red pepper soup. And don't forget to put a box of the 70 calorie mini cones on your basket! Everyone who works here is super friendly and helpful. I love Trader Joe's and this Modesto store is no exception. I will say they were a little panicky and unfriendly when Covid first started and I got hollered at because I brought in a cart from the parking lot so I could lean on it (bad knee injury) while I waited in line. I thought that was crazy because yes, I'm sure the cart has germs, but I have germs all over me too if they want to be that way. I get they were afraid and nervous about Covid in the beginning. Otherwise I have had great customer service and I love all of their products. I will always drive the 30 miles to shop at this particular store. read more

When I returned to California, I half-expected to see a Trader Joe's on every corner because of all the organic, alternative foods they have. I generally prefer the other brother's grocery--Aldi--that ends up with more typical food, including a lot of German and Swiss specialties but they don't seem to be in California at all. I was looking for something in particular--Macarons--those fancy meringue cookies that are a pain to make that usually cost nearly $3.00 a piece. They had a very small dozen in the frozen section for $4.99. Each cookie is bite-sized. It's good but maybe I was expecting more from it than it should deliver? I don't know. In any case, i wanted to taste them to see if they were worth it. I talked to a couple of the employees there and they were friendly. Prices are reasonable, and they certainly have plenty of alternatives that you won't find in everyday grocery stores. read more

On October 11th 2022 I hobbled into the store with crutches hoping to figure out a way to bring a gift home to my fiancé for all the help she had been given me. Lucky for me the perfect employee (Sarah) jumped up without hesitation, Sarah came to my aid with a smile on her face and excitement about the opportunity to help my crippled self. I informed her that I was looking for something to thank my fiancé, and was in need of some help. Being right by the entrance, Sarah immediately pointed to the flowers and helped me pick out a beautiful bouquet of flowers(Lillies, lavender spears and petite white bundles). She then helped me pick out a wonderful desert for her and a bottle of wine. By the way, whomever is reading this please tell her that the desert choices were "fire"as she would say. Your store is so fortunate to have such a humble, helpful, and smart woman working besides you. Please don't be blind to the great employees today, they are few and far between. I hope you can recognize her ability to go above and beyond her scope of duty and reward her for the great reputation she upholds for your company. read more

I have shopped at Trader Joe's for years. I like a lot of their products. However, they have become so hostile in their enforcement of masking. (As an aside, masks do nothing to stop the spread of viruses.) Anyway, I have a medical exemption but still I get stopped and have to ask for the manager's approval to go inside. Then, I am stopped again by employees asking me to wear a mask. The one woman out front often, I think her name is Rose, is so mean! Most of the other employees are nice, though. Anyway, forget it, Trader Joe's, I am done with you for now. Besides, now that I shop at other stores who are a whole lot nicer to people with disabilities, I am finding the other stores' food is fresher and better tasting overall than Trader Joe's. Win Win!! I reward stores for being kind to me and get better quality food also. Those of you saying you like how TJ's cleans their carts, etc., -- have you asked what is in their cleaning products? How do you know you aren't being exposed to nasty chemicals by touching their carts? Anyway, goodbye, Trader Joe's. The staff are always very helpful and friendly; the food selection is fantastic and very well priced and I always look forward to their seasonal selections. Shopping at Trader Joes feels like you've stepped back in time into a smalltown USA grocery store. It's adorable. They are also my go to place for fresh flowers. The flowers always look great and are super inexpensive! My dad passed away earlier this year and my mom went to Trader Joes to fill the house with flowers to make her feel better. When the cashier made small talk with my mom about the flowers my mom confided in her why she was buying them. The cashier gave my mom the flowers for free and the manager brought even more over to give her for free. How many other grocery stores would you find this at? read more

Great place for good and unique food on a budget. I love coming to Trader Joe's because you never know what good food, and deals on that food, they'll have. You can't find everything here. I still go to other grocery stores for certain produce, fresh meats and non-perishables, but the pre-seasoned and pre-cooked selection is the tops! The store is always clean and the staff is very friendly. Bonus: They have the best flowers here. I get pick up daisies for my wife here every week.
