One of the smaller Trader Joe's, located underground, in the Brooklyn Plaza/food court. Small space, so the store feels very crowded. Felt stressed shopping here, pushed around by overzealous customers and super efficient staff. A lot of noise and movement. I took my time studying items, de-stressing with my grocery shopping, however, all the frenzy made me feel rushed and stressed. Staff members at checkout are super quick. Staff members who were unpacking boxes of frozen foods, made very loud grunting sounds, rushing from isle to isle, creating more chaos. Felt like there was not a second without noise, movement, and hustle. Try to come here during slow hours (morning and weekdays, when not as many customers are rushing to make their purchases). A restroom is available inside the store (but the line is insane, so just go outside Trader Joe's, to a public restroom a few feet away from the store entrance). Some items that are on sale do not check out as sale items, so don't be afraid to ask the cashier for a price check to get your items for the correct price. read more

Yes, two of my favorite stores in the same building complex (there's so much going on here including the Dekalb Food Hall). Unfortunately I can't carry heavy bags since I don't live nearby, but rest assured, like other TJ's, this has it all. The secret is no longer a secret and the lines can get just as crazy at this location. The space is huge and the layout is convenient. I like how their produce is situated like farm stands with apples, onions and tomatoes in the middle and everything else to the sides. I love the location of this Trader Joe's and the workers are very nice! It's nice because target is right upstairs. I love Trader Joe's affordability and wide section on all their products, even their plants. However this location has the craziest long lines of about two blocks. Kid you not the last 4 times I've been here the line has been crazy. I've gone weekends and weekdays at different times. The staff tries to be on top of lines and move every one along. This is my grocery store of choice for sure! It is about a mile and a half walk from my home but I just use that as exercise when I need to get groceries and/or run to one of the many conveniences in downtown Brooklyn. It's mostly pretty worth it! The prices are consistent nationally and relatively affordable for the quality (compared to a lot of specialty stores and smaller NY grocery stores that jack up their prices for everything). Everyone that works there is pretty helpful and nice. A couple weeks ago I was looking for pine garlands to decorate for the holidays, but I didn't see them in stock, despite confirming their availability over the phone. I asked a very accommodating guy named Jeremy at the counter if he could help me find some, so he went to the back and brought out a box just for me to pick from before they were even on shelves! I love that the Trader Joe's brand is all about honoring the customer and making their experience as positive as possible. :) The only drawbacks of this location are that 1) the lines tend to be quite long, like, all the time. And 2) they don't have the widest selection of things.. I usually leave with a couple things on my grocery list that I still need to find elsewhere. During Corona times, they do a decent job of limiting the number of shoppers at one time. Sometimes it still seems like a lot, and once people are in the store, they kinda forget about giving others space. But everyone is always wearing masks. Trader Joe's and Target in the same building is absolutely unbelievable. Trader Joe's is located in my old teenage stomping ground, the mall formally known as Albee Square Mall. Trader Joe's is downstairs in the basement of revamped Albee Square Mall now known as City Point, which also has the trendy Dekalb Market Hall in the basement, a 26,000-square-foot food court, this location is conveniently located to every bus and or train in the downtown Brooklyn area. Trader Joe's is housed in that basement. The lines move much quicker here than in the Court Street location, the shopping carts are always well stocked and ready for use (another problem I had at Court Street), and yes all items are in stock. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a Trader Joe's fanatic. I've shopped at most of Trader Joe's in the New York area and find this one to be my favorite. The customer service at all Trader Joe's is great but this one is exceptional. They're very helpful and will go out of their way to make sure you are 100% satisfied with service. The food in my experience is always fresh and top-quality making this place my only supermarket. I often go in with a shopping list to buy about $50 worth of stuff and end up leaving with $150 worth of stuff. AND I don't even live with anyone. Yes it is just that good and that addictive! Some of the must-haves for me are at the coconut water, roasted plantain chips, avocados,lox, everything bagel seasoning, capers, grilled artichoke, salads, frozen organic wings, sofrito seafood, carrot juice, oat milk and dumplings... just buyeverything! You will love ALMOST everything there. The best part is you can always take it back if you don't like it for a full refund no questions asked. Trader Joe's is the best! COVID-19 SAFETY NOTE: They are taking extra precautions to meet Covid-19 safety guidelines. A quick review of this TJ's to note that the staff are EXCELLENT! I was helped by Amy (the manager) and Michelle, a mate (who even helped me take my huge bags up to street-level to hail a cab!!). I went during a Saturday afternoon, pre-holiday crazy rush, and my experience was seamless. Also, I think this spot has a more robust selection of flowers than the Court Street Location. We all love Trader Joe's for their amazing products, and this location has it all on a small scale. Like all Trader Joe's in NYC, this location gets insanely crowded. It's tough to enjoy a leisurely shop unless you come at odd hours. During the Coronavirus closure, a line wraps around to Century21 outside Dekalb Market. I went around 3pm on a Wednesday (they close at 7pm) and only waited about 15min. But once you do get in, it's much less crowded than it normally is (it's almost nicer), so you can take your time and enjoy browsing TJ products. I noticed (pre pandemic) that this location stopped serving coffee samples. When things return to normal, please bring back the caffeine! It's a TJs tradition. *To get inside, you just be wearing a face mask. You can bring your own bags, but you must pack them yourself. They're not charging for paper bags! read more

I've been a Trader Joe's fan for over 10 years when I lived in the DC area. Since moving back to Brooklyn, I've discovered this location. The location is great--I can go to Target, I can hit up the bookstore and maybe catch a movie while I'm at it all in one day because all are in the same place. Plus, there are several train options which is very convenient. Sometimes, the lines can get long but they seem to move quickly. It's very clean and well-stocked. I have been to TJ's across the nation and love that I know I can find the same high-quality foods almost everywhere I travel. We don't have a TJ's in Alaska, so I tend to go a little wild when I visit one. This TJ's has one super thing going for it, and that is LOCATION! What a fantastic spot. Easy to get to using public transport, easy to locate, and you will find plenty of other shopping opportunities around if TJ's doesn't have what you need. But it also has the LONGEST lines of any TJ's I have ever been to, but they have e pretty great system of getting folks through so even if it is 40 people deep you don't have to wait too long. But I will echo what some others have said about this location; which I read before going into this but went in with an open mind as I have NEVER had a rude staff member at TJ's. But let me tell you; these folks are SICK of the crowd! I had more than one fed-up staff member encounter, but the one that stood out to me the most was the young woman taking stock from the spices. She took up the whole shelving unit, so I waited a few moments trying to let her finish as I get this is a high demand job. She did stop but to argue with another shopper about fish seasoning. I finally said, "excuse me," so I could jump in and grab my item, and she turned around and snapped, "WHAT?!!" I stated I wanted to grab a couple of things real quick from the shelf, and she CONTINUED to stock with a hefty eye roll...I walked away, and when she was finished, I came back. I am not sure if this would deter me from shopping there regularly. I would have to see if it continued, but this IS my first time not giving a TJ's five stars..... read more

I don't think I've ever met a Trader Joe's that I didn't like. The food, the prices, the staff. There so much goodness happening at Joe's... but then the TJ's at City Point opened and I realized that not all Trader Joe's are created equal. Some are even better... This particular location gets bonus points for these extra awesome reasons: + It's not as crazy crowded as the other stores in the city - I don't know if it's because its still new or if its just a little off the beaten path for most but even after five pm on a weekday the line to check out is totally bearable. + It's easy to get to and leave from. Within a block there's at least 4 subways lines and just as many bus routes, so the convenience factor is super high. + Inside the store are short wide aisles that make it so easy to navigate. We all run into those shoppers who park there cart and just wander - at this TJ's there's room to move around them! Yay! + It has the friendliest staff of any store I've been to! Most Trader Joe team members I meet in stores are always nice but the crew at City Point are beyond. They're so friendly, so helpful, so courteous and totally funny. I've really really enjoyed shopping here since they opened, and until they open one up in my own Brooklyn neighborhood - this will be my regular Joe's. read more

I can't believe I haven't left a review for this Trader Joe's location! This is my favorite and most frequented one by far due to it's extremely convenient location. Not only is it located literally next to Dekalb Ave (B/Q/R), it's also nestled within the Dekalb Food Hall. The space is pretty decent, though lines can get long. If you're planning to come during peak hours, I'd recommend shopping while waiting in line simultaneously. Take the Fleet St (west side of Flatbush) exit from DeKalb station. City Point will be to the left, and TJ on your right at the bottom of the escalators. read more

Yikes. I've definitely been helped by stoned workers in various establishments before, but none had, by a long shot, been nearly as stoned(?) as the guy who rang me out at register 18 tonight. He could barely function and seemed to experience a lot of difficulty figuring out what to do when I brought over my purchases. Nevertheless, he eventually proceeded to move each item slowly, one by one, from my cart to the register counter... then to slowly scan them and place them, one at a time, back onto the register counter... then to slowly reach for a bag and open it... then to reach slowly for a second bag and slowly align it in the first bag... and then to loosely place each item inside the bag with further sloth-like speed. At one point, he mumbled something softly, but I was too stunned to ask him to repeat it. The timing could not have been worse, not only because I had just emerged from a 12-hour work day, but also because I was trying to escape a creepy customer who kept on silently appearing RIGHT next to me, pretending to look at the same stuff, even after I zig-zagged my way randomly across the entire store. I've been here pretty regularly since my previous review and there were some issues with things being frequently out of stock, but tonight was definitely a tipping point for me to update my review. read more

This place is okay and customer service is good but I am APPALLED that they don't enforce masks in the stores while everyone else in Brooklyn is. They're not even asking people for vaccination cards. So many people walked around without masks, INCLUDING a lot of the employees and I'm just at a loss. When I asked why they're allowing people to go unmasked, they said they're going to make an assumption everyone is vaccinated. I expected so much better from Trader Joe's. read more

I really like this TJs for several reasons. It would start with how I love the Albee Sq Market and what a great addition it is to the area. If you come by, you can grocery shop when you're done eating and drinking so you feel productive. This is on the smaller end of the TJs locations but it's lesser known so the lines don't make you want to commit suicide. There are lines but they are not hours long full of misery. This may also be because the location is new. Customer service here is much better than at other TJs. Must be the outstanding selection of lunch places the staff can chose from on their breaks. My favorite TJ location! What would make it better is if they had a wine shop too, one can wish. This TJ can get packed after work and in the afternoon on the weekends. If you go early in the morning on weekends it is less crowded. I like the way they organize their items at the TJ. Additionally, its right inside the Dekalb Market so you can have some tasty food in the market before shopping or you can grab some quick food from TJ and eat in the market. Pro tip: if you're looking for fresh produce, avoid going on Sunday nights - I think that's right before they restock for the week, and I've often found that they're out of some stuff. The only downside to this place is that it gets *super* busy from 6:30 - 8:30pm with the after-work rush. I'm talking the-line-snakes-around-multiple-aisles type of busy (if you avoid the after-work rush, you'll be in and out fairly quickly). This TJ's is a great place for a quick trip. The line can get long (per the usual in all the boroughs), but the cashiers move quickly. Downsides: because it's in Dekalb Hall, you have to fight through hordes of people to get to the store and fight them going back upstairs. It doesn't have everything I've come to know and love from TJ's but it's got just about anything I need. So glad to have this more recent addition to the downtown Brooklyn are. Now I can head to Alamo Drafthouse AND swing by Trader Joe's all in one trip. read more

I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to walk right in in shop relatively undisturbed. It was very few people in the store and I was able to find pretty much everything that I needed. There were only a few seasonal items that were sold out. All of the veggies whether bagged or loose were very fresh in made for delicious meals this past week. I found quite a few new items that my family enjoyed. I was in and out in an hour. This is pretty rare since I usually see lines outside, stretched down the block. Well, the ever-lengthening lines around this wide-aisled store indicate that it's no longer a secret. For a brief, glorious period, it was almost as if this new underground TJ's was undiscovered while the crowds of mouth-breathing masses flocked to the more established Court Street location. But now, like everything else desirable in Brooklyn, any time you want to be there chances are there's hundreds of people that do too. That said, if you have the flexibility to be able to shop here during the weekday mornings, it can still be tolerable. After work and on the weekends though (just like other TJ's), it's the worst. Beyond the varying crowd sizes, it's the TJ's that you know and love. They've got the Green Dragon hot sauce you need. They've got organic frozen fruit that is for some reason far cheaper than other grocery stores. They've got the whole wheat crackers that taste as good as the white ones. They've got cheap bananas and occasionally questionable produce. They've got lovely little samples in the corner, perhaps a berry crumble pie, and the nice lady actually wants you to take four of five of them. I swear, that's what she said. It'll make a perfect dessert for the burgers and fried seafood and pork buns you ate at DeKalb Market Hall before walking in because you can't shop for food on an empty stomach because you have no self-control whatsoever. (You should really get your life together.) They've also got carts that pull slightly to the right when a grown man runs and jumps on the back, which someone should look into. read more

I use to really hate this location. Yes, hate is a strong word which is was exactly why I chose it. I found that it was always out of everything, the lines were always long and wrapping all over the place so much so that it is hard to shop; I would have to make a break for it, extend my arm like Mr.Fantastic as the line moved up in order to grab items off the shelf. The layout of this location is not my favorite, similar items are separated while in other locations, for example all frozen items are in one place as opposed to separate aisles: My last gripe with this location is there is no reception which I know is not their fault entirely, but it does not help when you're underground for half an hour or more. One of the wining things for this location is that the staff are superheroes as are all TJ employees who are both kind and helpful. Another thing is that there tasting area is skewed off away from the registers which makes it less crowded, if you want to sample but also don't want to look like you're trying to skip the line! I like that there is a Target upstairs which is great if you need to grab things that TJ's does not carry. I do recommend coming during the day instead of after work if you want to be in and out, but like all TJ locations the lines are well managed and move rapidly. I would suggest an express line of sorts for 1-5 items or less. I saw a few people with a handful of things which they waited 20 mins+ to purchase. read more

This might be my favorite Trader Joe's in NYC. One of the newer ones, it's located on the lower level of City Point, meaning you can go on the same visit as a trip to Target, DeKalb Market, and more. It's fairly crowded, but the crowd (except at very peak times) doesn't feel as oppressive as some of the other stores. The aisles feel wider, everything feels a little more spacious, and the exit lines are broken up into three instead and feel quicker. We've only been there once when the line circled the entire store and doubled back again, but even then it was bearable. The staff here is friendly. The only bad thing about this location is that there is zero data connection, so it's impossible to communicate with any shopping buddies if you get separated or anyone on the outside if you're picking up stuff for others. If they put in some wifi, this might be the perfect TJ's location in NYC. read more
