This location is great! All of the staff is always wonderful, going out of their way to assist is any way they can. It can get really busy, but the staff always do their best to move things along. This is not my first time here at this trader's Joe as I have shop here a few times as I work in the area, I have also been to other Trader's Joe store and they are always on point with their service but what made me review this store was especially how I was treated today. My friend recommended me "Trader Joe's Way more Chocolate chip cookies" so I decided to come in here to pick up some after work. Got in line waiting for my turn at the check pay for my item I was greeted by a female cashier(sorry did not look at name tag) with a big smile asking "How is your day going so far?" and then when she scanned the contained of cookie and I handed her the $5 bill she pushed a button on the cashier and the whole machine just froze after a few minutes she called over a male co-worker (sorry did not look at name tag again) which I believe would be a manger or higher up to help start up another machine. He also greeted me with a big smile and asked "how is my day doing?" while trying to get the machine next to it up and running. up til this point I did not complain about the waiting or upset about the situation as I understand computer crashes unexpected and it is not something we can control.. The male co-worker said something to the female cashier and she handed me the container of cookie and the $5 dollar bill back.. she said to me "the cookie will be on the house" which at this point I was shock as I did not expect this type of outcome. How did I not yelp about this TJ? First of all, I am so glad Davis finally has a TJ. When I was here for undergrad, I would've been so happy to have a TJ so close to campus. This TJ definitely makes students happy. It's close to campus and it has all the stuff we need. I came here last night 10 minutes before closing, and the staff here is nice and helpful. I bought all the ingredients I needed. I used to think TJ is overpriced but I needed a lot of canned food (like corn, beans, diced tomatoes), and I think they are affordable at TJ. Less than a dollar for garbanzo beans? Yes, I think I might just buy a few cans! Also, the spices here are cheap too. So if you ever need dried foods or canned foods, go to TJ. I think their sauces are reasonable priced too. The parking lot is weird but it's the same one with World Market, Starbucks, OTH, etc., but it gets the job done. I say it's weird because it's cramped for some reason. I literally...and I really mean *literally* came here almost every day for about a month. I had a serious problem. And on the days that I wouldn't come in, it was because it was too late (past 10) and I had not been able to get off my lazy butt in time to come. Oddly enough, I always was actually buying something (I'm the type that doesn't know what she want to eat right up until the meal...aka a boy's nightmare). I probably came here so much because I love it there. The produce is always fresh, the shelves and fridge are well stocked, and the staff is so freaking friendly. One time I told someone that I hadn't seen a product I wanted and he ran from the cash register to check for himself to make sure I hadn't missed it. What a gem. Products I recommend - Gone Bananas (bananas frozen and covered in dark chocolate) - Hold the Cone! My husband and I moved to Davis for the summer and it was our first experience with having a Trader Joes so close. It has been nothing short of amazing. Whatever we get from Trader Joes is amazing. We are always trying new things and it is always delicious. My all time favorite things are their dark chocolate peanut butter cups and their Vegetable Masala. I could rave all day about the produce and how I love how everything is Trader Joes brand. The best thing about Trader Joes is the customer service. I came just for cash back, but I was impressed by the offerings at this location. There were a lot of empty frozen areas to suggest this place is always popular and busy with the college crowd. If I stick to my healthy and basic ingredient list, I get out of there with some money left, but let your hunger get involved and it can be an expensive trip! While they do not have as extensive of products as a Safeway or Rayleys, there are many wonderful creative food options if you want to try something new. They're $3-5 and usually feed 2 people, which makes for a quick and maybe healthy for quick! The india dinners like Saag Pinner is perfect for your significant others freezer with to ensure you'll never be hungry other there. Also their kettle cooked chicken soup, while being pricey, is soooooo good! To make r even better get some of their soup dumplings and simmer than in the soup! And there wines!!!! Oh my goodness!! They're so cheap and good. Charles Shaw is cheap and great. Their is a an organic Spanish with a picture of a carpet on that is yummy, and TJ's even carries bubbly from Mumm's (an amazing vineyard in St. Helena) at such a great price! The purple, green, and red bags of candies by the checkout lines are so good too. They're a bit too addicting Trader Joes's ups the ante by giving up free samples of food and coffee, and hiding a quite little duck around the store to find for a price. If TJ's didnt come to Davis in the middle of my sophomore year, I don't know how I would have survived college. The prices at Safeway for non sale items are too damn high, and I have not hit that echelon of society that can afford the Co Op or Nugget. Enter Trader Joes, where many high quality foods are sold almost ready to eat at a fair price. This TJ's is especially unique because there is alot of cool Davis decor around the interior walls and the staff are so damn efficient! I mean each time I am at Safeway, I feel like I have to wait in a 30 minute long line because there is only 1 cashier working. Thanks for making my day better - I don't live in Davis but I work for UCD PD and stop by here on occasion to get a snack for the week and then I come for home grocery shopping every 2-4 months to stock up on pantry items that I find here that I can't live without. Today though confirmed what I have always believed about this company - they are in it for the people and do what they can to make their customers happy. I wish I would have gotten the clerk's name - but he asked how I was and I asked him (after stumbling through my words) - if he wanted the polite or honest answer - he said honest and I told him I was there buying chocolate as a comfort to putting my horse down. He asked me to wait there and he returned with a dark chocolate caramel with sea salt chocolate bar and told him it was on the house and hoped I had a better day. He was so sweet and nice about it. I have always heard about them giving flowers to random customers and I know they donate a lot of their getting close to expiring foods to churches and other organizations to help the community. I have been to a church when they were there and it was nice. In response to some of the negative reviews: I have also experienced food overlooked, especially the prepacked produce stuff hitting past their expiration and not looking the best. I know some are best by dates and some are expiration dates - but while I think the store should help clear these items - I do think it is the consumers responsibility to double check these dates - I do everywhere I go to ensure the dates meet my eating needs and sometimes I buy in advance for something. I have encountered this at many stores, but I think larger chains pull early to prevent this causing a waste in food... which I don't think is good for people. I am sure if you took the item back to TJ's they would make it right. For the TJ marked products - I love their roasted garlic salsa, tried it this week and I am in love and even though it says medium it is more of a mild IMO - I can't take heat and this was just fine. This is my spot. I'm here at least twice a week because I have food shopping problem and I really like free samples. Granted, it can be more expensive than Safeway but Trader Joes simply provides a different assortment of food and ambience. What I love about Trader Joe's it's just so interesting- they are always bringing in new products. Sometimes, I like just getting their little cup of coffee, trying out their samples, and walking around to see what's new. Everyone is soo friendly and helpful here! Maybe because I'm from SoCal and used to rude don't care attitude workers or something but every time I've been here workers greet you with a smile, ask if you need help with finding anything and are just overall genuinely nice. Maybe it's in their job protocol or something to always be happy. This location is super close to where my bf lives so we usually just walk there, saving gas! This is a more affordable place for still quality groceries than World Market, IMO (although both has its ups/downs). My boyfriend and I always come here and we like to shop for their wide variety of frozen foods. Our favorite is the chicken tikka masala...omggg it is soooo good. Just put it in the oven for 30 minutes and you'll have yourself a meal almost comparable to restaurant quality. You can also microwave it, but I think the taste differs a bit. HOWEVER, the portion size is a bit small (even I can eat 2 of these for one meal). Everything else is really fresh here at TJ. I read an article that said you can ask a team member to open ANYTHING in the store and they will let you try it -- not sure if it's true, but that's nice to know! Service here is reaaallyy friendly, you can tell these people actually enjoy working here (or if they don't, at least they don't show it). The reason why I give TJ 4-stars instead of 5 is because sometimes they take out items that I feel are popular. For example, I enjoy their frozen kimchi fried rice and dried mangoes, but those are not always around. Best thing to get is their frozen orange chicken! Everything here is great and the food is bomb. There is so much variety and they have great pre-made meals already. A Trader Joe's right off campus is incredible. I was afraid the prices here would be inflated like other places in Davis, but from what I've seen they're identical to Sacramento. For lunch, I can pick up an absolutely filling salad for just $3.99. While there, I could easily pick up some produce and snacks for later. So convenient, and a great value. I love Trader Joes ! First of all this Davis locations has the friendliest employees , thus the best costumer service . I usually get nervous asking for help because of who I am as a person but the employees here are very easy and comfortable to talk to. They are more than willing to help and occasionally go nice and beyond to make sure your visit is a good one. Aside from the costume service, trader joes offers quality grocery options at a reasonable price. I'm huge on snacks and their extensive snack options always keep me coming back for more. I always get really excited when I receive the monthly newsletter to see the what "flyers items " I get to pick up on my next trip. I have been coming to this trader joes for a couple of years now, and their consistency has made me a loyal customer. P.s. Here is what I had to say about the TJ's in Sacramento, but it all applies to the Davis store as well, excluding the part about the girl with orange hair. Since I frequent both stores with about the same frequency, I think that its a fair assessment of each rolled into one review. "What's not to like about TJ's? Fresh produce, excellent frozen seafood selection, cheap booze and great prices all around! Trader Joe's is a great compromise between foodie, organic havens like Whole Foods or your local Co-op and budget, Savemar or Safeway-like supermarkets. The prices are surprisingly good, the produce is fresh and the staff are cool and friendly (especially the girl with the orange hair!). A few things that I love and buy on a weekly basis: fresh bead, Persian cucumbers, heirloom baby tomatoes, fresh basil, arugula, cage-free brown eggs & European-style yogurt. Other great finds: flattened banana, frozen self-rising croissants, mandarin orange chicken, any of the pre-marinated frozen fish selections, fat-free pretzel chips and red curry tuna. How I lived a complete life before discovering this Trader Joe's is beyond me... A great tip: don't shy away from their 'budget' booze selction. For example, you can get ~$10-12 bottles of gin, bourbon and vodka here that rival competing brands like Tanqueray, Knob Creek and Grey Goose. I guess that they choose high quality brands that simply don't have 'branding'. I'd rather pass on Two-Buck-Chuck myself, but some of the special TJ-brand wines are pretty special deals (keep an eye out for any TJ's brand wines that designate a particular appellation/county, like Monterrey, Pasa Robles or Santa Barbara... these areas typically produce more wine than Napa and often of comparable quality (especially for whites and soft reds like Pinot and Merlot), but aren't quite as competitive on the global market, so you can find really, really great deals for around $7." read more

I always make an effort to go to TJ once a week, even though I live in North Davis (aka pretty far). I LOVE their frozen Arabiatta penne pasta, panang curry, and masala patties, not to mention their dark chocolate almonds with sea salt. All are SO good and irreplaceable, I swear. Their microwaveable organic brown rice and rice medley are lifesavers, especially for college students! The customer service is also really friendly. This has become pretty much the only grocery store I use any longer in Davis. It's a super convenient location (grab some fresh food on the way back to my apartment, or just hop over and grab some a lunch cheaper & healthier than anything on campus), the staff are particularly friendly and willing to help you out, their prices are near unbeatable, the food is almost always very fresh and delicious, and they have a great selection of produce, meats, and breads among easy prepared freezer meals. A favorite of mine are the lunch wraps and salads near the entrance.
