The manicure here was wayyy wayyy below average. They are located in an office building. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a Russian woman who will ask you to pick from a very limited color selection. They did not have any OPI Polish. An older Russian woman did my nails, while 'the manager' tried to sell me on other treatments. She tried to explain to me that Botox, chemical peels, and other enhancements would be in my best interest. I definitely did not like nor appreciate the vibe I got. Furthermore, for the pedicure you'll be soaking your feet in a giant plastic tub that does not look to be very sanitary. The manicure did not last more than 3 days. We came for a couple massage that we bought a Groupon for. Scheduled for a Friday afternoon, no problems getting there, no problems scheduling. Things to keep in mind when considering this spa- 1. It is located in a suite of the building and there is basically no waiting area- you wait for your appointment in the same area that they might do an eyebrow consultation or someone's nails. That being said, there's not much of a "relaxing atmosphere upon arrival" and it isn't much of a "spa" though they do provide spa services. 2. However, the staff was nice enough and they do their best to make you feel welcome. They are not overly accommodating, but I have no complaints. 3. The services are relatively inexpensive and, I wouldn't say you get what you pay for because that sounds negative... but, you get what you pay for in a GOOD way, as in, the value is good for the price- but it is still a "cheap" sort of service- and I would not be happy paying more than the Groupon price for what I got. We opted for the deep tissue but both ended up receiving Swedish massages... It was enjoyable, but it wasn't what we ordered. My masseuse did not speak English so I'm not sure I could've communicated that she was giving me the wrong service either way. And, in the end, we may have been better off receiving Swedish massages since we may not have been able to communicate effectively for the deep tissue anyway. On a positive note, the couples massage room was clean, candlelit, and spacious with high ceilings- the high ceilings make the ambiance of the room seem almost luxurious. So, although the waiting area doesn't deliver, once you get in the room it's very relaxing and sweet. Will we be back? Maybe. I've been here twice. I got the Groupon for 2 mani & pedi which is a really good deal! I called to get the appointment and the lady who answered the phone was busy so I think it might be a big & busy place. When I got here, it is on 3rd floor of a building. This place looks like a little studio. I found out they also have the unit next door as their massage room. They do offer all kinds of beauty services. I really like the lady who did my nails. She's very nice. At first, she let me sit on the sofa more high up so she can do my pedicure. The nail polish is right on the wall by the sofa so I could pick the color while she's doing my pedi. After the pedi is done, she asked me to sit at the table by the door to do my manicure. She also put a nail drying fan on the floor to dry my toe nails. She also massaged my hand & arm for a little bit. While I was drying my finger nails with the fan, she came to chat with me in case I was bored since I couldn't use phone at that time. She even helped my put on my socks & boots. I love all the services there. You might find out this is a tiny place which doesn't look like a normal salon but they do offer great services. read more

I rarely go to the effort of writing reviews, unless it's an exceptional experience or a horrendous experience. TQ Spa falls into the latter category. I'll list the issues point by point. 1. I purchased a deal through Groupon for 2 manicure pedicures. 2. The spa is on the third floor of an office building, down a dark hallway. 3. I arrive 15 minutes early and wait 15 minutes past my appointment time while Veronica/Victoria (I forget) finishes manicure on current client. She is the only one working. She and the client and then a third woman who is there to retrieve the client all socialize together, speaking in Russian. 4. The technician has zero regard for keeping me waiting, does not apologize, does not explain their bizarre procedure when she's finished. Basically you sit on an elevated chair, like a ghetto throne, where you're wondering where the heck the water for your feet is. I asked, "Is this a dry pedicure?" She says no, but fails to help me understand. 5. Limited polish selection, though typically I bring my own anyway. Still. 6. The lighting in this space is terrible. One she stars on my toes, she is hunching over them with a floor lamp barely illuminating my feet. How can she even see? 7. She continues to socialize with the previous client and the client's aide as the client's nails dry. She even takes time to look up at them. Even after I tell her I need to be somewhere. Her phone rings and she answers it I think 2 or 3 different times. One time she talks for what feels like 5 minutes but was likely more like 2 minutes. Horribly unprofessional. 8. Another woman arrives for her appointment, not a mani pedi, something else. The woman pauses her work with me to call the person who is supposed to be there to service the other woman. She's speaking in Russian and it sounds like an unpleasant call. She asks this woman to wait, even though it was the salon that told this client to arrive early. No one else ever arrives and, without saying a word, the client walks out. Veronica/Victoria says nothing either, during the entire time this woman is waiting, or about it afterwards. She never even apologized for the mix-up, the wait, offer her water, etc. I do not blame this woman AT ALL for taking off. I was half tempted myself at more than one time during this experience. 9. When I ask, V tells me she's been working there two months and graduated from cosmetology school about 1 year ago. That might explain her gruff handling of my nails, which she was rough with when filing. She also applied the polish too thick. 10. Returning to how my feet were soaked, at some point she disappears to the back, no explanation, and returns with a big bowl with water in it. Okay. Never seen this before. So I go with it. 11. Typically I leave a mani pedi feeling cleaner, more put together, like my toes and fingertips have been treated and taken care of, the rough edges smoothed, the cuticles cleaned up, my feet baby soft, etc. Not here. I forewent having the cuticles on my fingertips tended to because I didn't trust her to do a decent job. I always have the cuticles clipped, so this is a first for me. But time-wise and due to her incompetence in other areas, it felt like the right move. I don't regret that decision. 12. The foot drier doubles as a hand drier. When she's finished with my fingers, she pulls the drier from my feet, sets it on the table with some paper towels and now my toes are no longer drying. 13. Unlike with others, they did not charge me for the quick drying top coat. Whatever, I would never pay extra for a layer of polish. But in reading other reviews today, this wasn't an issue for me. 14. One thing that posed a big issue for me, beyond the above, was the toe dividers. I'm surprised no one else mentioned. Usually at nail salons they weave paper towels between toes, which works well. Here they have these toe dividers that are like little foam monstrosities. They are cumbersome and unwieldy, sliding down my toes and threatening to ruin the pedicure. I remarked on the dividers and she'd push them back up out of her way, but that's no way to go through this service. It gave me anxiety and it makes her job that much harder. Once we moved on to the mani, I pulled them off. They did more harm than good. 15. She attempted a quick hand massage, but with the latex gloves and not enough lotion it was a fairly unpleasant, albeit brief, experience. Clearly comfort and calm are not on the menu here. 16. She doesn't seem to know how to paint thumb nails. I don't blame her for her inexperience. But my guess was she knows the owner and they let her work here for tips. Who knows. Maybe she gets paid. Doesn't seem like she should. Though it seems like she shouldn't be working in this industry at all. 17. When we finished, she ate strawberries and string cheese. She offered me some fruit, but I declined. 18. Looking at my nails, they don't look half bad. But the harrowing experience wasn't worth it. read more

Where do I begin.. I have so many positive things to say about this salon I could write a BOOK :-)) but I won't keep you long... Just know that this is the Top Salon in the City if you want ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING needed to BEAUTIFY and Treat yourself!! The service is Top notch and right away they make you feel like family or an old friend.. The products are all Top of the line products.. They explain the entire process as well as stopping along the way to make sure that you are completely Satisfied and Happy with the look they are creating for you... That alone deserves 5 stars :-)) The salon itself is comfortable, classy, and intimate... I was so comfortable I didn't want to leave lol it was truly an experience that will have you wanting to return again and again! And already I can't wait until my next visit.. Do NOT go to this spa to get a manicure or pedicure for the following reasons: 1. HORRIBLY messed up nails. I had to tell them to remove paint from the skin near my toes, and to repaint in an area. My friend's manicure was absolutely HORRENDOUS - nails were slightly streaky and looked OK when we left, but 30 minutes later it was incredibly streaky and horrible 2. I had a great experience with TQ spa so far. I have a Groupon for massage + facial and only had a Swedish massage for now. The masseuse, Andrew, was awesome! He was firm, very thorough, polite, and his hands were warm (a must!). The atmosphere was also relaxing, although I didn't being able to hear the front desk during my session. It was hard to be fully into the experience when I'm listening to phone conversations (although the front desk lady was very nice too) I have a facial booked with Stella and am really looking forward to it, judging from the reviews. This was by far the worst mani-pedi I have ever gotten. First of all, all of the nailpolish was old and clearly needed to be thrown out. They did not have any OPI, only a limited selection of Essie. She picked at my cuticles so hard that I was in pain and bleeding. She put the nail polish on way too think, and I could tell while she was doing it. I sat under the dryer for 30 min, walked to the subway, and my polished was ruined the minute I put my hand in my bad to get my metrocard. Also, I was wearing sandals so my toes were fine for the night, but when I wore flats to work the next day, the polish was ruined because they still weren't dry! This place was awesome. It was a little odd that it's in an office building-esque setting, but once I was in there, I forgot all about it. The guy who gave me my deep tissue massage was good. It wasn't great, he did a couple of odd moves, but what do I know, maybe there are new techniques out I don't know about. Point is, he wasn't disappointing and helped relax this bride to be to the point of jello! The other service I did was a facial. I had a Groupon coupon for both. The facial and STELLA were TOP NOTCH! I bought a Groupon package for eyelashes extensions and had my appointment last Sunday, and I am so disappointed that I have decided to compose my first ever Yelp Review on their behalf. First off, the floor was eerily empty and quiet and there was only one employee in the studio which was slightly disconcerting, granted my appointment was for the late afternoon on a Sunday. I started off and I told her I wanted a natural look, and so she suggested putting different lengths on my lashes to achieve that (good idea, that I appreciated). She took a long time cleaning my lashes and removing my old lashes (which was unnecessary because I had asked to match them because I really liked them). 1. Then I noticed she pauses for a while and stops cleaning them, so I peak to see what is going on and she has her cell phone out and is taking what I find out to be a "before photo." Without my consent and knowledge. I probably would have agreed to this, had I been asked my permission beforehand, but it was very unprofessional and borderline privacy invasive. I would not have even known my photo was taken and put on yelp if I hadn't opened my eyes. 2. In the middle of the service, her hand slipped and poked the inside corner of my eye, which led me to verbally yelp (pun not intended). I understand accidents happen and there was no harm done other than my fleeting discomfort and continued nervous alertness. 3. Additionally, when I opened my eyes at the end of the session, I had discovered the burning sensation and she had gotten glue in both of my eyes and i had get a paper towel to get it out. Although she was appropriately concerned, her response to this was "don't worry, you will not go blind." Good to know. 4. This is the kicker. I probably would not have even written a yelp review in the first place, until CLUMPS of my eyelashes started falling out yesterday... only 3 days after my appointment. The day after my appointment, I had already noticed several lashes falling out, which I found begrudgingly understandable; I bought a cheap deal so a lower quality product was assumed. But I have hardly any lashes left now that I have to wear mascara... 4 days after my appointment. It is unfortunate, because the lady was very nice, but I'm overall disappointed with the service and that I paid a total of $80 ($45 deal + tax and tip) for extensions that last less than four days. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I bought a deal on groupon and I seriously regret not reading the reviews for mani pedi on Yelp before. This is by far the worst mani pedi ever and just a waste of my time. I got a deal for 2 mani pedi for $45 on groupon. Came the first time and there was only one person working, Roxy. I had to wait 30 mins even making an appointment beforehand. This place is not suitable for mani pedi because there are no massage chairs and they don't have the correct equipment. They brought a tub of water to do my pedi!!! Despite all this..Roxy is a sweet girl and did an amazing job on my mani pedi. She took the time to do them and put a lot of effort carefully making them nice. However, the nail polish seemed old. I paid extra money for quick dry and was there for 2 hours and my toes had still not dried!!! I had found out after getting home taking off my shoes that my toes were ruined. I let it go, hoping the second time around it would be better. I even brought my own quick dry this time so my nails would not get ruined. The owner called me to reschedule my appointment. I had booked it for 11:30 and she changed it to 12 pm Bc whatever they had to do before me was going to take too long. Fine, I agreed to 12pm. I had told her about the incident that happened with the quick dry and told her I was upset. She said she was sorry and said she would tell whoever was working that day and make it up to me. I came on time and the girl working there seemed so confused. I waited another 30 minutes this time until I got My mani pedi and I was pretty upset because I had to be somewhere at 2pm. The girl who was doing my mani pedi came late. She walked in the door so confused, dropped her bags and didn't even know what to do. She sat me down on the table ready to do my hands. I told her, "aren't we suppose to do pedi first? it won't dry on time" then she said, uh...ok. Just wait here. And got a tub of water to do my pedi first. I was so taken back by this. I also told the girl about the quick dry incident that happened last time and how her boss had called me To reschedule and said it would be taken care of. She told me her boss didn't tell her anything, took another phone call and just ignores me. Sigh. I don't know what to say anymore. It is what it is I guess. The girl who did my nails barely spoke any English. I kept telling her I needed to leave in 1 hour Bc I had other things to do that day and she kept reassuring me that she would be done in 1 hour. I went here with a groupon for a facial and a massage. They took the groupon from me once I arrived so I can't be exactly sure of the 'type' of facial I had booked, but regardless it was 'some' type of facial. I have to say I was not totally wowed by the facial by Stella but maybe I should give her another chance. (Maybe waxing is more her forte, since I see most reviews are raving about her waxes?) There was no steam...just a warm cloth put over my face covered by what felt like Saran wrap. While I was lying there she did massage my shins and feet a bit, which was nice. She did very little extraction. No exfoliation. It was a bit confusing but I think she was then saying something about 'oxygen', so perhaps that was what she meant when she went over my face with something that felt like a teeny bit of wind. Perhaps it was some instrument that emits pure oxygen or something? Either way it felt very gimmicky to me. How is a wind of pure oxygen over your skin supposed to actually penetrate or help your skin? She then asked if I wanted to try a certain 'special' type of mask that would cost an extra $25. I said 'thanks but no'. I think after that she dabbed a bit of toner on my face and said 'ok I am done now.' I was surprised to have gotten no exfoliation, no mask, and no facial massage but I thought 'well, maybe I ordered a mini facial...I will have to check my records later...". But then two seconds later she came back in and said 'oh I will give you your mask...sorry I got confused with the time.'. It was a bit odd but I certainly wasn't going to refuse a mask. She then said she'd be giving me that 'special' mask and that it would be 'on her'. The mask was good but either way, after confirming that the normal price for the facial I got was $90, I would have expected a more complete facial with exfoliation and facial massage and an automatic mask (not a mask as an afterthought). Either way though she was certainly very nice and I did appreciate the two Decleor samples she gave me so yeah...I should probably try her one more time. As for the massage by Andrei, it was really phenomenal. I've gotten my share of massages and he was right up there wtih the best. So I would definitely go back to see him! Making an appointment here was also a bit odd. They don't seem to have normal 'office hours' and I left a message the first time and no one ever called back. So I called again a few days later. Scheduling my massage and facial together for a two hour time frame seemed to be a bit more complicated. They implied that if I did them separately it would be easier to schedule. Anyway I wanted to do them together, so I think I had to schedule the appointment al\most three weeks out. As for the decor of the spa, it's located on the 3rd floor of one of those typical Midtown non-descript office buildings that just have a small lobby with an elevator and then like 10 small private businesses on each floor behind their own door. The staff at TQ spa were very nice, but I got the worst lash extension job ever at this place. AND Ive been to many! I paid for silk quality lashes which are supposed to feel and look natural, as well as be soft. Whatever they used turned out very stiff, and hard. Irina glued each lash so close to my skin, my eyes were glued shut when done. I asked for a natural look but she proceeded with some "cat eye" dramatic effect. Stella is so nice and so funny - she keeps me laughing the whole visit. Most importantly, she really loves her job and is damn good at it! She is completely professional, wants to make you look your best, and is never about just getting your money. On my first visit she did my eyebrows for free! My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary and everything was amazing. They were very friendly and even offered shots. Based off of the service we received this establishment definitely deserves a 5 star review, But at the end when we were tipping the ladies laughed and said "what is this" basically hinting that she needs more of a tip. Then we tipped them on top of the generous tip because they had a minimum for their credit card machine and taxed it. She let me know the strengths and weaknesses of my skin and was very direct. This place is located in flatiron. Its not the most fancy place, but its certainly clean and cute. I was offered a glass of wine when i arrived which was welcoming. I have really noticed a difference on my skin. My skin feels much tighter and has a glow to it which others have noticed! I went for spider vein lazer treatment 3 times. The first time Irina did not show up and was very apologetic. The second time was fine. The third time, the equipment didn't work so she had to reschedule. And the last (the rescheduled third time) the lazer was evidently dialed way too high and my chin was very badly burned in 2 spots. She noticed a white spot but only said "I don't want to burn you" before she finished. I really hope there is no scarring as a consequence. I would absolutely not recommend and hope the license to use this equipment is revoked. read more

Got a $25 mani/pedi thru groupon. They only had one station, so it took a long time for my turn, thank god i didnt have any other plans after. They didnt even have a hand dryer. Also, the lady put a quick dry top coat, and she applied it so thick that it wouldnt dry itself! She was not gentle, and she cut my skin and didnt apologize, not happy with the service! read more

This was an amazing experience. I had the 3d eyebrow tattoo done. I was tired of filling in my eyebrows everyday before leaving the house. I won't have to worry about that anymore. I have the eyebrows I've always wanted now. Irina was amazing. She kept me comfortable and kept asking if I was ok. My eyebrows and fuller and thicker, all while looking natural. I originally found TQ Spa through a Yelp search. I was looking for an affordable waxing place near my job in Manhattan, and Stella came highly recommended. The spa itself is cozy and warm, with soft music and a relaxing atmosphere. I had never received a waxing before, so I was a little nervous, but Stella was truly professional, gentle, and understanding. I usually have a very low threshold for pain, but under Stella's expert care I barely felt anything. I am now a TQ Spa regular, and even though I no longer work close to her office, the trip is definitely worth it! read more
