We have been coming to this pediatric office for 19 years, and I truly can't say enough good things about them. They care for children all the way up to age 21, which has been such a blessing for our family. Dr. Lin has been our provider throughout the years, and she is absolutely amazing. She is incredibly thorough, attentive, and compassionate. She always takes her time during appointments and never makes us feel rushed or unheard. Every concern is taken seriously, every question is answered thoughtfully, and you can tell she genuinely cares about her patients. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!! Just arrived for my son's annual physical appointment. I was checking in with a very sweet young lady and then a very rude Hispanic lady with a heavy accent took over the check in and demanded she see vaccinations for my son's appointment. I said we are on a delayed schedule, and they were done in Alabama, and I started delaying after he turned 3 months, and this was never a problem before. I have 2 sons that go here as well and have always done the same thing with, and it wasn't a problem before. Lady stated she will need to ask the supervisor for approval, came back and was so happy to say we will be getting a dismissal letter in the mail since I will not be vaccinating my 7-year-old ongoing and they cannot help me. I stated If I had known this on the phone making this appointment it would have saved my day checking out of work early. She then stated the office now is cracking down on delayed vaccine schedule or no vaccines at all and are starting to dismiss the patients. This place has turned horrible, stay away. read more

We moved our 3 children from being patients at Pediatric Associates of Alexandria to TPG. We've had a good experience. Unlike PAA, the front desk is friendly, it is easy to schedule appointments, a specialty provider remembered my child/related issues and the billing is efficient and correct. TPG Pediatrics has been WONDERFUL for both my kids. We've been coming here for several years now and see Dr. Cavros. She's fantastic with my girls, asks lots of questions, and explains things the kids need to know in detailed but easy-to-understand language. We switched from Pediatric Associates of Alexandria (PAA) just down the street due to the sub-par care we received there. At that huge practice, the hours were convenient, but we could never get the doctor we wanted and they mis-diagnosed my daughter at over 8 visits for the same issue, and these mis-diagnoses led to serious developmental delays in my youngest. TPG is smaller, and you can tell they genuinely care about your children. They don't make you come in unless it's really necessary. When you do need an appointment, it's easy to schedule, especially far in advance. I'm a working mother and have never had an issue getting after school appointment times. They also have convenient flu shot clinics on weekends in the fall and winter for quick shots. read more

My daughter has been with this practice since birth (she's now 8), and it's been the biggest mistake. No continuity of care. Every time they see her it's like it's the first time. They don't know her and the people keep changing. Only reason I haven't changed is because I'm lazy, but I will be finding another doctor as it's ridiculous. The doctor that I interviewed with while I was pregnant left the next year, since it's been a big of a revolving door. If you want a practice that knows you and your child, look elsewhere. read more

I LOVE THIS PRACTICE!! The medical providers and the support staff are wonderful! My kids love the providers and are not fearful of the doctor's office. Love the evening and Saturday appointments. The newly remodeled office is lovely. Dr. Cavos and NP Jennifer rock!! I only had one bad experience where I had to convince/beg one of the nurse practitioners (not Jennifer) to run a strep test on my daughter. Mommy's know their kids and sure enough my daughter tested positive for strep. She is seemed very nonchalant about the positive test. This is a quick and positive update to my last review. We have been going to TPC since our daughter was born and have seen a handful of doctors they have in their rotation in the past 2 years. We just went in for my daughter's 2.5 year old check up, and I'm happy to say that in the past few visits we've had, the services have certainly improved. The wait time after checking in as well as the wait time b/t the nurse and doctors is very reasonable now, usually within 10-15 min each. The recent doctors and nurses we've seen (at least Dr. Lin, Schmidt, Morea) have been great in terms of patience, attentiveness, and care. We've also had to call the nurses line and speak to on call nurses/doctors for various non-emergency issues/sickness, and although the calling in portion takes a long time (often end up waiting very long and/or leaving a message for call back), the service we have received is quite thorough, and the nurses/doctors are patient with all questions. Furthermore, they always follow up the next day to see how your child is doing. I'm glad we stuck it out with TPG and we don't have any plans to leave the practice at all. read more

Truly a terrible, dishonest, unethical company/group, take your children and money (insurance) somewhere else. I took my daughter for her annual physical and I was shocked when they sent me a bill regarding a "medical health" service charge for. When I inquired about the charge, I was told that it was due to the "mental health" evaluation form I filled out, which was given to me by the receptionist who told me all the forms were required and needed to be filled out. However, I wasn't told that that the "mental health" assessment was not typically part of the annual physical examination and might not be covered by insurance. So, essentially, they can bill (overcharge) your insurance by any amount they want, and whatever amount the insurance company doesn't pay, you are "screwed" and have to pay no matter the costs. Families, please be aware of this... please. How can a company/group who deals with insurance claims, day-in and day-out- not know, what services are and are not covered and not have a fiduciary responsibility to inform their customers? When I go to my dentist, she knows what is and is not covered and lets me make the choice, but at least they tell me. Save your family from this terrible group. read more

The lady that runs the front desk is absolutely efficient and does a very good job getting patients scheduled, checked in and out. She deserves 5 starts...Very good at her job. The office itself was very clean and organized. The nurse assistants/MAs were very nice and efficient as well. I was not happy at all with my children's visit with the NP. Both my children where there for physicals for school. The visit seemed rushed and I did not get to address all of the issues I wanted to go over with the doctor. We recently moved to Virginia and needed everything transferred over to VA forms for school. I left without being given an updated shot records or physical forms. I was told to call back to request them. I guess I had higher expectations for the visit. I'll continue using the clinic but I know that I will not make an appointment with NP there again. read more

I've been taking my kids here for over a year and just discovered that their office has been billing us co-pays that are higher than what our insurance allows and then not giving us a refund after the claims are processed. I called and complained about this to the office manager and she told me to take it up with the company that they outsource their billing to. I asked if she could at least refund the most recent charge that only happened 2 days ago and she refused and said take it up with their billing company. Transferred from the TPG Fairfax to TPG Alexandria. I wantes to stay within the TPG practice long term. TPG Alexandria were able to schedule me in for the 2 week check up. Nurses checked me in the lobby, directed me to undress baby and weigh her. Communicated my concerns on acid reflux, throwing up, diapers and bowel movements. Staff need to follow up on hospital results. Everything runs smoothly and scheduled for 1 month check up. Ran across medical statements that didnt include insurance info or EOB. Contacted billing office and told them insur and patient dob is correct, then when Im on the phone with insur co, they left voicemail msg as follow up. It took about 3x times for system to update w insur info.... read more

We have been taking our baby here since she was born. We usually see Dr. Lin, who is amazing, patient, calm, helpful, and very reassuring. The front office staff is very efficient and nice, the nurses are also friendly and gentle, and with the redecoration of the entire office, even the environment is very cheerful and bright, which should help keep babies and kids a little less scared during visits. There is hardly ever a wait to be taken back, and only about 10 minutes or so for the doctor. There has never been an issue getting a same-day appointment for illness, and the triage nurse does a very good job of helping figure out if you need to come in or if they can give you advice over the phone. I like that there is an online patient portal where they send out messages about weather closings, special clinic hours, or where you can ask questions about test results, request prescription refills, view past vitals like height, weight, temperature, etc., and pay your bill. They also eprescribe, which is especially convenient for babies and kiddos, since it's transmitted right away and their RX will be ready by the time you get to the pharmacy, instead of having to drop it off and wait (usually with a sick child, of course.) They also are very good about giving us visit summaries about what was done during the visit, vital signs and measurements, follow-up information, what to expect at the next visit, answers to common questions and general advice for baby's current level of development, etc. It is very helpful to have it all written down for easy reference later. I chose this practice over others in our area because 1) they have separate waiting rooms for sick and well-child visits, 2) they are very much pro-vaccination so I don't have to worry about my baby catching easily avoidable, devastating diseases from other patients before she is old enough to be vaccinated against them herself, and 3) there are weekend hours for acute illnesses (and don't they always seem to pop up on Friday night!) The only areas for improvement I can think of would be to have an IBCLC or two on staff to help and support new and breastfeeding moms, and to help evaluate babies for latch problems, lip & tongue ties. "One-stop shopping" for mother-and-baby who might be struggling with milk supply and baby weight gain would be amazing, especially during those crucial first postpartum weeks where moms need to build and maintain supply, but might be struggling with postpartum fatigue, recovery, and depression and find it difficult to find an IBCLC and manage yet another appointment. I definitely would recommend TPG to my friends with kiddos. If only I could find a doctor's office for myself that was as friendly and well-run as here! read more

I have changed my rating to a 4! With the exception of the receptionist, who is not really friendly or organized, the rest of the staff is awesomesauce! The office is super clean, and we hardly had to wait at all. The doctor was amazing, thorough and extremely helpful! Everyone else was extremely friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend this place to all other moms I know, but I'd really consider maybe retraining the lady at the front desk. She is the first person people see and talk to, and first impressions matter. read more

I really disliked this office. As with others, the copay charged and the amount billed regularly does not add up. I should never pay a copay with my plan but received bills from them for each visit. The allowed charges are far surpassed by the actual charges. Scheduling appointments is easy, although the customer service leave a bit to be desired. Aside from the general office management issues, I strongly disliked the setup of the clinic. The waiting rooms and hallways (to my memory) are carpet - just inviting in those lovely infectious germs - and appeared not to have been cleaned in years. The space is cramped and is hard to get a carseat (don't even attempt a stroller) down the hallway. The rooms are painted fun and bright colors, but how does a newborn not look jaundiced in a Yellow or Orange room with fluorescent overhead lighting? The seating in the rooms themselves generally seemed to be 1 plastic chair (also dirty looking) which leaves limited options if you do have a car seat and would also like to sit - I can't imagine having brought my son's father with us to the appointments. I didn't notice cleaning wipes or antibacterial hand sanitizers in quick reach - but it was a while ago so hopefully that has changed. As for the knowledge and expertise of the docs... My son had lost 1lb after birth. I was having problems with supply and latching. The reaction to this was terrifying, I felt very judged. Instead of offering any insight into what these issues might be stemming from the doctor suggested I supplement with formula - "everyone does it." As a first time (and exhausted) new mom I believed her and took a sheet with contact for lactation consultants I could contact to go. Unfortunately, the supplementing was the beginning of the end for BF'ing. Turns out there were very simple and legitimate reasons that could have easily been addressed with some time and support from other medical professionals and probably alleviated without the use of formula. They made a big fuss over his weight loss requesting him to come in daily initially and then every other day - causing me lots of stress - not to mention an hour round trip (excluding appointment time) for my son and I in his first few days of life. Certainly I was concerned but it seemed a little excessive and made me feel like either I was killing my baby or I was being brought in for them to create a nice set of invoices to bill my insurance company. Eventually they allowed every other day visits followed by a 2 week window, at which point I transferred to a new pediatrician. Don't get me wrong, the staff here were generally nice, friendly, and seemingly knowledgeable. The office itself is less than desirable but not a total dump. If this was the only place in town I would take my son there... Fortunately, it isn't. read more

I had a very good first experience with the Pediatric group: The doctor (dr. Cavros) was warm and competent, the staff were accommodating, and the nurses were very caring and smiley. My wait time in the waiting room was no more than 5 minutes...I did have to wait a little in the examination room but since it was a first-time visit, and a one-year check up +shots, this was to be expected. My daughter was even happy with them (smiling and giggling the whole tome -well, until they poked her that is). One complaint I have is that the waiting area is bare and uninviting -no toys, no books, nothing. Like I already mentioned we did not have to wait, so that was OK, but, I am dreading the time we'll go and they'll be running behind...How to entertain a toddler? (granted I am not sure if the "sick" side looks more like a children's doctor's place) read more

We had a couple of terrible doctors who didn't know what they were talking about and then we had Dr. Jennifer Smidt and nurse Sandra, who are amazing. I love this practice!! I brought my daughter here after she was born in June 2013 & now I bring my son who was just born in July 2014! The desk staff is very friendly, the doctors are so warm and attentive and the nurses are so sweet and happy to do thier jobs! The on call nurses are so friendly, have been most helpful and don't make me feel like a crazy lady when I call with a concern! We started bringing our daughter here after she was born in July 2015. Each time we see Dr. Davitt, who has always been friendly and informative. While you may wait a little while up front or in the room, she takes time to really evaluate your child's health, ask key developmental questions, and respond to any concerns you have as a parent. If we weren't moving out of state, we would definitely stay with this practice. The front desk staff has regularly been friendly and helpful in scheduling appointments and answering my questions. The nurses have been so friendly and good with my daughter, especially when she has to get vaccinations. I have called the nurse line twice, and they helped me make informed health decisions. The practice has always been clean and functional, even on busy days. I highly recommend this practice to partners looking for a great pediatric group. read more

I called today (Wednesday 1/2/2019 at around 10:45am). A woman picked up the phone and was very rude with an unwilling to help attitude. I needed to bring my daughter to see a doctor to check for a possible ear infection. The receptionist's exact words to me were "Why are you coming here? Why you no bring her to your other doctor?" I had just changed my insurance company and plan for my daughter for the new year and this woman turns me away and tells me to go elsewhere. We have been going to TPC, Manchester office, over the past 2.5 years, since our son was born. At the time when we were looking for a pediatric office as soon to be new parents we were extremely picky on who our son will be visiting overt the next decade. We selected the TPC, Manchester office because of the good vibe and comfortable feeling we had with them. To date they have far exceeded our expectations. The staff has been professional, prompt and responsive. In particular, nurse Jennifer as been a true gem for us, our son and our recent addition to the family. The Pediatric Group, PC gets two tiny thumbs up! We've been taking our son to this location since he was a week old (now a toddler). It seemed just like yesterday... Anyways, I waited to properly and honestly review something very important to us and could maybe help you and your family (no, not where to find the best fish tacos); finding a good provider for your kid. As first-time parents, we did all the research, visited several places, and finally this place just felt right. From what I've experienced, they consistently seem organized, quick to return your phone calls, and gets things done on time. Good professional service from doctors, front desk, and the on-call nurses (who we call on speed-dial for those late nights/early mornings when something didn't seem right and we needed advice). Then the nurses always (yes, I said "always") call back in the morning when the office opens to follow-up and check on my son. Very flexible for scheduling at the last minute with reasonable wait time, almost always on schedule, clean waiting area and rooms (two separate waiting rooms for sick/well kids), plenty parking, and I think the staff genuinely cares about the kids and what they do. I should mention that they use what I call a "whose-evers available" system, which may not work for you if you want the good 'ol days when we grew up seeing one family doctor. I suppose you could choose to only see one of their docs but why wait a couple of days if your kid is sick now (my thinking). Seeing different doctors every time we go was a not a concern as long as our son was seen and taken cared of right away. Yeah, some of the doctors have more personality than others but all the doctors that have treated my son have been very good and took the time to answer all our questions. With all the things we have to worry about plus all the imaginative and curious mischief the little cherub gets himself into, it's been one less thing to worry about in having this pediatric provider as a reliable partner in helping us through the journey. read more

I'm not one to leave reviews normally, but TPG needs a shout out! They are without a doubt THE BEST doctors office I've been to. We've been going to the Manchester office for a little over two years. It is so easy to get an appointment and their late hours are perfect for working parents. Yesterday I decided to call and make an appointment after a few days of my little one not feeling good. I called at 4:50 pm expecting to get an appointment for later in the week. I was surprised when they offered me 5:15 the same day! NP Jennifer was able to diagnose her quickly and had so much patience with my little as she wasn't feeling good. Love this group. read more

I just took my daughter to the doctor right when they open at 8 AM. Walk-ins are always welcome at any time. She had a fever this morning and over the last two weeks both of her brothers have had flu and strep throat. Along with all the coronavirus risks I wanted to be sure that her fever was quickly and accurately diagnosed so that she could start getting treatment if needed. The pediatric group changed their policies last week, in the midst of the coronavirus crisis, to get rid of all of the morning walk-in appointments. Any doctor can tell you that fevers and viruses rear their ugly heads in the morning after they've had all night to infiltrate the body. In a time like this where coronavirus is wreaking havoc around the country and in this community, the pediatric group change their policy to remove walk in appointment availability in the morning. It would seem like when a community needs it most, the availability of doctors walk-in visits ad hoc appointments, especially during an uncertain coronavirus environment, that the pediatric group would not make such a drastic change. We started using the Pediatric Group after moving to Alexandria from San Diego in 2013 and were satisfied. We moved across town and tried a different, closer pediatrician - never again! We came running back to TPG and have been very happy with them. Jennifer Schmitt sees both of our kids (3 years and 8 months). They love her, and our toddler is always excited to see her when we go in for appointments. She is kind and thorough, respectful of our personal choices, and genuinely cares about the kids. The office is somewhat dated but clean, and my boys love the decals on the walls in the exam rooms and the books for while we wait. I don't have any complaints and would highly recommend this office! read more
