Had a really good experience here. Went for a birthday present for our 6 year old cousin who is advanced for his age. The gentlemen who helped us - who had a long pony tail, pointed us to the 'Genius' Isle where they had assembly based modules where you can build various items. He went through a number of them, and let us know which he has seen in action, and the few that he hasn't. While we were looking, he came back with several 'games' to look through, although I wouldn't call them games. They were more along the lines of the assembly games we were looking at. In the end bought one 'game' and one assembly thing. I felt we were well looked after, good toy selection, and I would definitely recommend them. Please not I rarely give 5 Star reviews; for that I have to be wowed, or find the same great service on a second visit. read more

Checking out the latest board games and newest Barbies. Discovering a new color of Gak or falling in love with a Lego set? Rediscover all those feelings with a trip here. I drove past it and had to turn the car around. A still open, toy store?! I had to know more. The rush of nostalgia took me over. I darted from aisle to aisle, oohing and ahhing over all the neat toys they have. My favorite part of the store though- is the straight out of the 90's confetti carpet! Toy Box has been around for years and is well known in Mamaroneck. They have a broad selection of toys and all kid related activities! Definitely a great place to go for gifts, and they offer free gift wrapping! Prices are on the higher end but I think the convenience of the store makes up for it. I had a recent experience where a gift I had bought had some dried out paint in it which was part of the art project kit. I took it back to see if I could exchange, but did not have a receipt. They were very accommodating to the exchange and were happy to do so even without the receipt. I really appreciated the customer service during this visit and it made for a happy child who got a present she could actually make use of! read more

I was visiting New York on vacation and wanted to take my granddaughter to a toy store...I was surprised to see so many when I was searching online ... I read the Reviews on Toy Box but that was the only one open nearby that initially grabbed my attention...Well everyone...please take heed when you see negative Reviews because I experienced the same morgue like atmosphere and the nonchalant evil spirited aura...When we finished walking around the store and was paying for the merchandise that my granddaughter chose I spoke about the male salesperson who was very inattentive when I asked him about a toy to the other salesperson and noticed her attitude as well...my granddaughter made a comment when we left the store that 'she didn't care what you were saying either'... The owner was following my 6 year old daughter around the store like some CREEP. my daughter wanted to buy a pop it, when she brought it up to me to checkout I GASPED when I saw the price. $15.99 for a SMALL watermelon pop it. I immediately brought this up to manager asking if it might have been a mistake. He shrugged it off and told me and my daughter to leave if we didn't want to buy anything. Have been meaning to swing by this store because I do want to support local businesses and notice some have wonderfully curated items as compared to big box stores. First impression: it's a little tight if you've got a stroller. The aisles are relatively narrow, shelves are jammed and some are totally blocked with merchandise towers making it difficult to navigate. I came in looking for a birthday present. I found myself looking at some science kits and lego sets. Came upon this teeny tiny lego set for $40, which just didn't seem right, despite understanding that legos are expensive and that there would likely be a markup. I'm fine with a reasonable markup too, for the convenience and knowing this is a small business, however this store took it too far. A quick google revealed that the same set was being sold (not on sale or at a special price, either) for $15! $25, more than a 250% hike--seriously? And it's not like it was just on Amazon, where you'd have to wait for shipping, it was the same at Target, etc. That's way beyond reasonable in my book and just not worth it for me to shop here. I do hope the management considers lowering prices and advertising as such, as I sincerely believe it will help them in the long run. They'll make less profit per item but will become the go-to shop for all the families in the area and surrounding, so the quantity will more than make up for it. I bet they have scared off a bunch of potential regular customers, which is a shame. read more

Of course u can get toys cheaper on Amazon but my daughters like the experience of a toy store and I like to support local businesses. HOWEVER, the vibe in the place is like a morgue. Totally joyless. Not a smile. Not helpful. No answers. No thank yous. I have been there multiple times because my kids beg me to go but I just dropped 600 bucks for Xmas toys and they were as sullen and thankless as DMV. I won't go back. I will go to the corner store in larchmont, miller's on Mamaroneck ave or Bigtop by Scarsdale. Hey toybox owner and employees - you work in a toy store!!! Act like it!! In this day and age with the big-box stores and e-commerce its a pleasure to be able to walk into a well-stocked, perfectly-sized toy store and not only find a wide selection but an owner (Steve) who really cares! It was the holiday season and I had a few items left on the list. Thanks to Yelp, I searched in the area I was in and the Toy Box was the first name up. The location has a small parking lot but I would think there would always be available spots. The store itself is organized very well. They have a wide selection and of the good/educational toys. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. One last note... I do not live in the area. But they won my business over for the next time I need a toy. When I asked for a particular product that they did not carry, they were not afraid to point me in the right direction to get the item. The speaks volumes for me and a real reason to always invest your dollars in small business. read more

First impression: wow, so many toys! What a great store! Final impression: I'll probably stick to Amazon next time. That's too bad because I really do like going to the store and seeing items in person and supporting local businesses... Why this conclusion? Well, I went out of my way (drove 20minutes one way with a grumpy toddler) to go to this store instead of getting the exact same toy on Amazon. Online, I found it almost $20 cheaper and with free shipping, none of the hassle of driving, parking and dealing with taking my child in and out of the car etc. However, I like to support local businesses especially during the holidays if possible. Unfortunately, the customer service was not so great: no cheerful or helpful staff. They told me one thing on the phone and then the selection in store was not the same. Also, when I mentioned the discount that was advertised online (10%) it was grudgingly given to me (at first the lady at checkout denied that it existed) and I was made to feel like it was a big inconvenience for them to apply the discount. Yes, I had paid and the money needed to be refunded but NO, I didn't want store credit instead! So all in all, I don't think that I'll be coming out of my way again. And on a side-note: the toy box looked a bit damaged too (no one apologized for that and it was just dismissed when I mentioned it. Not a huge deal because my kids won't notice it, but if it were a gift for another family, I wouldn't buy the present there because it didn't look completely new).
