I visited The Book Trader a few days ago. What an experience! First of all, they have every type of book imaginable. From cookbooks to sci fi, from fantasy to biographies, from adult romances to children's picture books! You could find books from the 1600s all the way until the 21st century. The Book Trader is exactly what its name says: it trades books. You can bring books, which they will give you store credit for and then you can buy books for cheaper than they would cost in a regular store. This was such a great idea, in my opinion. I traded in 2 books and bought one. Now, aside from being separated vaguely by genre and authors' works being mostly together, there is no other sorting system to this store. Books, as you can see in my pictures, are all over the place and it is very hard to walk around parts of the store. If you want a specific book...good luck! Also, make sure you have cash on you. Tons of used books available, and the owner was extremely helpful. Very reasonable pricing and they even offer a trade back program (bring books you bought back for credit towards another purchase). We will definitely return when we finish reading what we picked up in this trip! read more

Been coming here for years now and it's always great to browse and leave with a stack of books that come out to be a lot cheaper than they would be anywhere else nearby. The only used bookstore we've got in the area, so really appreciate their service and commitment to literature! read more

I really love this place and the woman who works there is absolutely wonderful. She is always so helpful! There is a really wide variety of great literature so you do have to be patient. I could literally spend hours here, which I have done so many times. The people who work here are never pushy and never make you feel rushed and never hover over you no matter how long you're there. I love The Book Trader! They have thousands of thousands of books that are reasonably priced. You're guaranteed to find a bunch of books here. I traded some of mine in too & they give you a generous amount of credit. They definitely treat customers right & are not pushy. It's a great bookstore! The Book Trader has a wide selection of books. It also helps that she guides you to certain authors and almost everything is placed in alphabetical order by author here! You can trade in paperbacks for credit as well. The Book Trader is cash only and after 12 purchases you get a free book, how awesome is that?! Great, old fashioned used bookstores, home to many paperbacks. Delightfully reasonably priced, with many treasures. Well-priced, so if you're looking for that summer reading for the kids, thoughtful material for your reading group (yes, there are multiple copies), or just a fun summer (or rainy day) read, stop on by, and stock up! read more

I have been going here for over 20 years (they had an old location on 35). For the most part, the books are cheap, and they have a wide selection. I've always found the woman owner to be nice and helpful. You can really find some gems in this place. The only caveat I'll make is that I walk right out now if I see that the husband is there and working the register. He makes up prices and jacks them up at the register, saying they are "internet prices," even for books that are softcover, torn, marked 35 cents, and available on the internet for just the cost of shipping. The Book Trader has an enormous number of children's books. They're mostly organized by authors, but also exist in piles and piles around the shelves. Teachers looking for classroom sets will find lots of their staple books here. read more

This is a nice, down-to-earth bookstore. It's what a bookstore should be: shelves and stacks full of books, with very reasonable prices. Most of the books are 'previously read', but are by and large in quite good condition. And the 2 owners, who run the store, are friendly and helpful. I'd definitely try here first for books for myself and to give as gifts to others. The selection is eclectic. I found interesting cookbooks, my beau loved the available selection of classics, and there is just about everything else in between, for readers of all ages. Not to mention that when I visit, I usually find a real gem that I didn't even realize I was looking for (case in point: a funny book of New Yorker cartoons on literary subjects). It can be like a treasure hunt. Also, another quaint touch is the small selection of non-book merchandise they have by the check out. I have also always loved the Book Trader, and now they are in Clark opposite Pompei Pizza. . They have a huge selection of used books and are definitely worth checking out. I just read that hold-in-your-hand books are coming back and am glad they are . If you have a favorite author and can't seem to find his books then come here. You won't be disappointed. read more

The store has moved to 73 Westfield Ave, Clark, NJ. I always enjoy coming here since I never know what I'll find. The owner is always helpful and will keep an eye out for a certain title if you ask her. The new store is much more crowded than the Colonial location was and getting through the aisles can be difficult. read more
