I have been going to Towne Vision for my glasses for years, and they have always been wonderful. Recently, I had a prescription for a very specific issue, and despite multiple doctor visits and adjustments, it just wasn't right. Through all of this, Sharon and Gina were absolutely amazing. They were patient, kind, and incredibly understanding. I had at least two lens changes over several months, and not once did they make me feel bad, rushed, or like I was an inconvenience. They handled everything with such compassion and professionalism. I cannot thank them enough for the way they treated me and the effort they put into making sure my glasses were perfect. Thw doctors are great but watch for Tom and his wife. There no prices and ask they will wouldn't tell you until you hand over your card and charged. watch they are experience. If have an problem they will NOT help you. Tom does have anger issue bewarnes. His wife wrote up some notes about what the insurance covered. The only catch I only had an eye exam which I was charged for. Of go make sure you call the inzurance company first then go. read more

I'm with the reviewer below and only wish I'd seen that review before going there. Went to get contacts for my daughter and was told by the store (before our visit) that they accepted our insurance. After an eye exam (by Dr. Rufalo (sp.?) who was totally unprofessional and talked about his ex-wife and about his daughter going through puberty during the whole exam.... huh?!) and as we were placing the order for the contacts, the sales guy (same person I'd spoken to over the phone before our visit) told me they only accept our insurance for eyeglasses. When I confronted him about what he'd told me over the phone he merely shrugged his shoulders unapologetically and repeated that they only take our insurance for glasses. Talk about deceptive practices. In addition, the price they were charging for contacts was outrageous. Unfortunately, we had to fork over the cash for an overpriced eye exam, but needless to say, we cancelled the contacts order, complained to the store (to no avail, they could have cared less) and informed our insurance co. The good news is, our insurance co. has red-flagged them for other prospective patients. Of course, after mentioning this experience to a number of friends and acquaintances I've learned that many people have had bad experiences with them. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Towne Vision Center owner, Mr. Rufolo, is rude, mean, and inconsiderate. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he and his secretary refused to wear face masks and tried to argue with us how they were not necessary. Face masks are required in the state of New Jersey. He continued refusing to put on a mask and, ultimately, kicked us out of the store when we wouldn't accept them not following the law and jeopardizing our health and safety. Also, my prescription was incorrect and they were unwilling to admit to and accept their own mistakes. They do not deserve business or good reviews. If I could give them zero stars, I would. I rarely write reviews, but this place warrants one. The Dr was great, if he works elsewhere, seek him out, and go there. The owner on the other hand, Tom, seems to prey on people not knowing their true insurance benefits. He overcharged me $150 for my exam. When I asked why, and noted that I've had the same exam for the past 20 years and never paid this much, he gave me some BS about maybe they used my contact lens allowance previously to offset my total costs (?!??). I paid and left. Spent some time thinking about it and reviewing my benefits and decided to call back and try again to get a better explanation. Nothing. He was rude and obstinate, refusing to even entertain the idea that he might have made a mistake. I finally called my insurance company, twice. The first time he was too busy to talk to them and I had to call back. The second time the agent said, and I quote, "Well that didn't go well." She basically told him he had overcharged me, and that he needs to resubmit his claim and that I'm due a refund. I went back to get my refund, he sees me, "Oh, I knew you were coming in today." He doesn't know how to use the machine, his wife does it, he asks me to leave him my card details and she'll do it when she returns. I did, and I eventually got my refund. But the kicker, no apology, or remorse of any kind!! Make sure you know your insurance benefits, question everything they want to charge you! I find it odd that other reviewers have complained about being overcharged as well, no one has been undercharged, if it's an honest mistake, it should happen in both directions. Please learn from my expensive lesson and avoid Towne Vision. I went in for an annual contact lense exam, which is supposed to be a $55 co-pay, and left $209 out of pocket. They know how to play the insurance game and they charge 3 to 4 times what most providers charge. I have very mixed feelings about Towne Vision. Both my wife and I go here and like Dr Rufolo. He gets to the point and my wife says he is the first doctor to get her a contact prescription that worked without her having to go back again. That said, I am very conflicted about the pricing. Never sure if I am getting a fair deal given the benefits available under my eye care program (I have VSP). We will probably go back just because of Dr Rufolo, but want people to have a balanced view. read more

Tom, the owner, provides excellent customer service. He changed my glasses and lenses twice with no problem. First he changed the lenses of my new glasses because I didn't like the progressive lenses. Second he changed the frame after I used the glasses with the new pair of lenses for a few weeks and realized the temples (arms/legs) weren't comfortable. I highly recommend this shop. Sad to give a negative review. Started as a great experience and ended with me spending $250 for glasses I can't use and no refund. I went elsewhere where they spent a ton of time to get it right and promised to make it right with no hassle if the two pairs of glasses I ordered didn't fulfill my needs. Towne made minimal efforts to handle my problems with the lenses, used cheap materials for them, and had the audacity to put lenses in a frame I hadn't chosen. To give this review 1 star is to do it a favor. The manager was rude and combative. He gave us misinformation regarding the type and style of glasses he was ordering us. He sold me glasses with a nose piece that could not be replaced. He sold glasses for my 10 year old son where the anti - selective coating was over polished. He charged us 800 dollars for two pairs of glasses (thats with the insurance discount). We immediately went back to our normal store in Berkeley Heights (Suburban Optik) where they provided us the glasses that we wanted at half of the cost. Towne Vision Center should be ashamed of their lack of customer focus and deceptive practice. We have lived in the area for many years and tell everyone who needs glasses NOT to go there. I came to Towne Vision for an eye exam, to update my contact lenses, and update the lenses on my eye glasses. 1) the eye exam left me with a prescription that was too strong for my eyes, and I had to go back to reduce the prescription 2) the lenses cut for my eye glasses were completely uneven and frankly cut so horribly, I did not want to be seen wearing them, so I went back to ask if they could fix the cut on the lenses, and I experienced the worst customer service I have ever had 3) the owner did not kindly change the cut of the lenses, but reacted very aggressively towards me, took the lenses out of the glasses and threw my eye glasses (with no lenses) onto the counter. He also took my cleaning cloth for my lenses so all that was left was my eye glasses case and the glasses with no lenses 4) I was greatly overcharged for the horrible service and decided to order my contact lenses and get my glasses fixed elsewhere The customer service was the worst I have experienced and I would highly recommend going anywhere else other than Towne Vision. The owner was so aggressive from my request to fix the lenses that I almost called the police. by far the worst experience ever at an eye doctor. The actual doctor was fine. But they never gave me copy of my prescription. They Charged me 240 dollars (4 times the average) for a contact exam and fitting... theyate up my entire insurance benefit iwth just the exam. when my insurance company got involved they gave me 2 boxes worth of contacts in a zip lock baggie. when i called to talk to them about my displeasure he hung up on me. they kept telling my insurance company that they mailed my prescription...but i never got it.. would highly recommend you stay far far far away from this business. read more

Can I give them a 0? The optician did almost nothing and then charged me 3 times as much as the Lenscrafters on Rt. 22 and the Lenscrafters at least gave me a real thorough exam. They claimed I got a "premier contact lens appt" but all he did was get my glasses prescription. They didn't even see if the contacts fit. Then they had the nerve to turn around and charge the insurance company for even more services that I didn't receive (refraction test?!). I will never go back here again. read more

I had an awful experience here. Tom could care less about his customer satisfaction. He is arrogant and insulting. I ordered hard contact lenses from him twice in the past. This time they did not fit correctly (with the same fit measurements) and they caused me to suffer pain which resulted in an eye infection. I took up my issue up with the women who works there and she was very understanding. She said that she was determined to find out what the problem was and that she would have another pair made. Unfortunately for me, Tom answered the phone for her. I tried to explain the problem to him. He first told me that my eye would mold them. Are you kidding me, I have been wearing lenses for 40 years and they expected me to buy that, they are hard plastic. He then told me they were fine and that he was neither going to help me or give me a refund. He had no explanation for my painful fit. It got ugly and I told him that my wife had had an issue with him years earlier. He then insulted me and my wife. I was also overcharged for the lenses. He charged me $267 and I have nothing. I called Cosco for a price and they told me $80.00 for Gas permeable hard lenses. I should have listened to the other reviews online. read more
