Came in for a routine eye exam and mistakenly signed the medical insurance form which was made to seem that issues detected and treated would be billed accordingly. The result was my mention of dry eye while wearing contacts being used to bill both vision and insurance for the same visit. I didn't receive any additional testing or treatment for this and the combined bill was in excess of 600. I now owe towards my deductible for a routine eye exam. Upon further examination, I brought it up to their front office and was immediately countered with a copy of my signature. The exchange here felt very contractual as opposed to medical and they only care about your diagnosis as a means of having more ways to bill insurance companies. Beware read more

Great selection of glasses across all different price ranges. They are not "pushy" and will help you out if you need help making a decision. They take insurance but will price out your glasses with any specials they have going on vs insurance for you to make an informed decision. Parking is easy in the back and only a short walk, or you can park on the street. Either way, it's metered parking. read more

Me, my family and per my recommendation, some friends have been coming here for over 10 years. They have the best selection of frames and HAD terrific staff! I was in earlier this week, had 3 pairs of glasses picked out and added to my account. I went back with my mom to help me choose. I was in the store no less than 30 minutes, and none of the 3 people working there so much as said hello to me. After the 30 minutes, I let one of the girls know why I was leaving and she said that she thought someone did say hi. So not the point. Sadly, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. read more

I've been going here since 2016 and have even recommended them to friends but won't be going back after today's experience. I had a test in March that the doctor was concerned about because he didn't have a baseline for comparison and asked me to repeat the test 3 months later. I mentioned that I'd had the test before but he couldn't find it in my chart. Went back for my follow-up. Repeated the test and they added another test and then found the original test in a different chart where they had misspelled my last name. The doctor compared the older test to today's and said the good news was they were exactly the same. So I asked the manager about getting a refund because they had me repeat the test due to their own clerical error and they completely changed their story and won't refund for the repeat test due to clerical error or the additional test they snuck in. I've read other reviews about feeling taken advantage and I completely feel the same way. read more

Dr Rustagi and his staff are professional, friendly and provide a great service. The store has a great range of frames in a wide range of prices. There is never any pressure to buy new frames. If you like what you have, they will be happy to update the lenses, should you need to. The staff tries to accommodate you with scheduling and they are on time. The longest I have ever had to wait was 10 minutes. Dr Rustagi is kind and caring. I was having a problem with my eyes on a day that Dr Rustagi was not scheduled to see patients. I left him a message explaining what I was experiencing. I got a call back within the 1/2 hour that he would see me within the hour. He saw me, diagnosed the problem and I was on my way. He called me days later to followup. (When was the last time a doctor called YOU to see how you were doing?!) I would recommend them to anyone. read more

I recently started going there and my first appointment was with Dr. Rustagi. Turns out that my eyes were pretty dry and he sat down with me and explained everything that could be causing it, prescribed me some eye drops and a new contact prescription. Before I left, I ended up setting up an appointment for my mother! Not too long ago I called back to schedule a follow up appointment because the new contacts felt dry too. They gave me an appointment the next day with Dr. Patel. She was just as nice and welcoming as Dr. Rustagi - was will to answer any questions and changed my contacts to ones that offered more comfort. I must say the entire team is really nice and great at what they do. The facility itself is so pristine! The only thing I'd watch out for is parking (can be kind of hard finding parking sometimes but there's a lot in the back, street parking and the Bellevue Lot down the street)! read more

I recently stopped by on my lunchtime with a mangled pair of (expensive) glasses and they were able to fix them within minutes!!! Literally, no more than 5 minutes. And they were so pleasant and professional. I actually went back and bought an item the following weekend! read more

If you want to know why health insurance costs a fortune, look no further than this kind of business which is part of your eye care plan but really exists to bill your primary health insurance hundreds of dollars for additional testing. If we had not been sent a copy of the actual "bills" presented by this company, we would never have known that under that affordable co-pay lurked close to $1000 in charges billed directly to our health insurance provider. Then glasses made didn't seem quite right ... brand new prescription fuzzy ... after two additional visits staff allowed how "legally we are allowed a 2% variance but some people are really sensitive". Yes, I'm sensitive. I like to see. I chose them based on their reviews, so needed to post this. I would have much rather not. read more

Never do reviews but very frustrated by lack of accountability and had to say something.I had a great experience here until I decided to pay (not covered my insurance) to get my old frames updated with new lenses as a back up. My old frames were broken and despite the fact that I paid hundreds of dollars for the lenses they are telling me that the only way to get glasses replaced is to pay their cots to get frames replaced, probably another $150 on top of the roughly $500 I have already spent with them. There is a 2nd option if the frame manufacturer deems the breakage covered by insurance I will only have to pay shipping.... paying the $5 shipping after I have spent hundreds of dollars with them is obviously no big deal but reflects the total lack of accountability that I feel, really you broke my frames and you can't even pick up the shipping? Anyway this hasn't been resolved but I am beyond frustrated as I trade voicemail after voicemail with them... otherwise I am left with no back up glasses and a pair of lenses that I have already paid for and no frames. Total lack of accountability and I feel like I am being gouged for every nickel and dime they can squeeze out me. I think the doctor is very nice but I plan to never walk through their doors again once this is resolved and would advise others to be wary as well. read more

The staff is extremely professional, knowledgeable, and attentive. Dr. Rustagi cares deeply about his patients. This was apparent to me as he took the time to go above and beyond to guide me in the right direction on two issues that weren't even eye related. I love this place. Dr. Rustagi is wonderful and loves to explain everything in easy to understand ways. I always have a thousand questions and feel like he's not going to have time to answer them all. But he never acts rushed or like he doesn't have the time. Ask him any question and he'll be happy to give you the answer - in a way you'll be able to understand. The shop is beautiful and they have the best collection of eye glasses I've seen anywhere. I always hate it when I have to get new glasses because most places carry frames that I either don't 'get' or just plain hate. But they have a truly beautiful collection high-end designer frames. While the staff is polite and helpful, be aware you are being cleverly hustled. You will be pushed towards the most expensive frames and lenses as well as the most expensive follow up exams. You'll also be told when asked that your child's prescription for contact lenses (for the most expensive, naturally) are not transferable because she's been fitted --surprise-- for only the most expensive brand, without being first told that. When I realized what had happened and watched it happened to others right in front of me, I could only say "caveat emptor". And of course, request to get my child's prescription so it could be used for something less that the $1200/year boutique MyDay 90Pack overpriced prescription she was given. That's when I realized it really was sort of a scam. I was told the prescription and fitting was only for that specific lens to be ordered through them-- aren't eyeball shapes all the same?? 1-800 CONTACTS listed the specific Coopervision lens MUCH cheaper. Service was pleasant and professional. Dr. Rustagi took his time to explain the different aspects of what was a somewhat complicated set of features I wanted in my glasses. The resulting prescription and glasses has been just right. The sales staff are friendly and helpful. As an extra "freebie" they gave me new lenses for my reading glasses. They have an unfortunate location, not on a main street, but are well worth seeking out. read more

Great customer service with lots of smiles. I was quiet surprised at what was covered by my VSP insurance, every frame in the store was available even the designer frames. Dr Rustagi takes his time, explains everything and even showed me a video of my eye examination which really helped me understand the health of my eyes. I would definitely recommend them. read more

I had been here a few years ago when they were still in their old location to have a prescription for glasses filled. One of the reasons I chose Upper Montclair Eyecare and Wear was because they participate with my vision insurance plan. At the time, I needed both frames and lenses, so a gentleman helped me pick out frames and then explained to me what was covered under my vision insurance plan. Once I picked out the frames, they put the lenses in according to my prescription and I picked the glasses up about a week or so later. I returned here the other day to have my new prescription for glasses filled. Their new location is beautiful and their hours are convenient. The woman at the front counter was helping me, then Danny, who was very friendly,chimed in and started suggested new frames for me. He helped me pick out a great pair of frames that really compliment the shape of my face and were also partially covered by my vision insurance plan. Bill, the Optician then sat down with me and took a few measurements. He was very friendly and even helped me by fixing a pair of my grandmother's glasses I brought in to have fixed (one of the lenses kept popping out). Bill said my new glasses would be ready in about a week and they they would call me to come pick them up. Again, Upper Montclair Eyecare and Wear is great about using my vision insurance to cover new lenses and frames and their staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I will keep coming back here for my glasses and also recommend them to others. read more

My wife and I bought eyeglasses a little over a year ago. The coatings failed dramatically on both pairs within a few months. They redid my wife's lenses because they were still under warranty; because I was out of warranty by a few months they said they'd get back to me. I still haven't heard from them. They're really not interested in keeping us as customers even though we spent close to three thousand dollars (primarily on the lenses). On my frames, they charged me $100 more than the manufacturer's own website charged. Their response: they had to charge more to cover shipping and handling. Our experience was bad lab work, price gouging, wasted time, and wasted money. Nice front of store staff though; always smiling. read more
