A million interesting and unique household and gift items, plus a hardware store that has had every single random part we have ever needed for a 100+ year old house. We are always skeptical we will be able to find various unique replacement items and miraculously, Town Hardware always has them along with knowledgeable folks with helpful advice. read more

From the moment you walk in, it feels like you took a step back in time- in the best of ways. Wooden floors and a mixture of practical items and lovely gifts greet you at first glance. This store is broken up into two big rooms. The one towards the left is more upscale gift like. You will find lotions, cards, kitchen gadgets and candles/soaps. While it is a bit pricey, I love the local and well curated feel. They have nice candies and snacks from Asheville and some great natural products. Some old fashioned soda in the back for hot summer days. The right side is more your everyday stuff and traditional general store items. You will find actual hardware, command strips, soil, birdseed and leaning supplies. The front has cute games and books. Again, check the prices as some are quite fair (I got birdseed and a birdfeeder for the cat that costs similar to Amazon prices) but some can be high. Other random info- They also do handiwork and make key copies. That's nifty. You can become a member and get some discounts if you wish (it's free). Killed some time here while my wife did some yarn shopping down the street. Very old timey feel to the store. It was how imagined old time hardware/general stores to be. This shop took up like three or four store fronts. Each section with a different theme. There was a hardware and paint portion, a toy area, a houseware area, and a grocery area among them. My son and I spent most of our time perusing the toys and groceries. I loved that you could pick up food items that were made locally. The toys were old school and unique, not the kind of stuff you can find at chain stores. We walked out with a magic kit and some local food items. The price was pretty miniscule. read more

This store is absolutely adorable and you will feel like you are walking back in time as soon as you walk through the front door. So many fun things from the past. one more time for peter, the owner, who wrote 2 very lengthy replies defending his staff who ignored me and then shouted after me as i was walking out "hope you have a great day" dripping in sarcasm and hatred. i'm home now from our vacay. what a sour taste over this stupid incident when you could have just said, shoot we're really sorry. all the details about how fast i walked by them as they were chatting and didn't look up and then how long i "berated" them. how dare you. you say they were dealing w a transaction from the customer before me...maybe you should lock the doors while 2 employees figure out each transaction and then open them up again when your staff can pay attention to new people walking in. i didn't berate. i said , hey i'm a nice person...the fact that you never looked up when i walked in and then walked right past your register was a bit rude. the guy then said the absurd thing abt some people don't like to be bothered. then, peter, you contradict him by telling me that greeting customers is your business model. aren't your employees in tune to what your front door sounds like when it opens?? to look up and say hello is the normal way most places operate. your store was empty, i was only one in there. again, your defensive responses proves to me that i'm just a bother to you and you lack compassion to really see the customer. you say i walked by so fast your staff didn't see me. that's absurd. you backed your staff's excuses and lies and once again your store ignored the customer. read more

Love this hardware store! They have everything and then some. If I have time I can usually get lost in here checking everything out. I always grab an old fashion soda from the cooler and my dog Lucy a cookie. The staff are very friendly and always willing to help out. We did some Christmas shopping in July. Such a fun store with really unique items! Fun to browse & find unique gifts.

I went into this store in a bit of a panic. We had just finished hiking a nearby trail, where myself and a 6 year old were stung several times by hornets. They helped me locate sting relief and then I realized I didn't bring my wallet. Susan offered to cover the cost for me and made this disaster so much easier! We returned to the store a few days later to repay our debt and drop off a thank you card. read more

A fun store to shop, with friendly staff. Not only can I find actual hardware items here, though it's a small hardware store and thus doesn't compare to the chain home improvement stores, but they also have a wide variety of other fun and useful things, from area travel guides to decorative items to artisan toiletries/health products. read more

They are the best! Many times I go there not knowing exactly what I need and they patiently explain it to me and go with me to get the part. In the case of my key fob needing a new battery, they opened it and replaced the battery. Nice people and responsive. read more

What great people running this establishment! I traveled two and a half hours from Charlotte through rush hour to get a Swedish hand forged Splitting Axe - and when I called and said I would be 5-10 minutes past close - they accommodated willingly. They saved the day! Not only having a rare and ridiculously premium axe, but by showing kindness to a paying customer. Thank you so much to the kind lady and gentleman in the hat for their efforts which allowed me to have a day full of Lumber Jacking on short notice. The Axe is The Bjork by Hults Bruk. read more

My wife and I just happened to stop in Town Hardware & General Store while exploring Black Mountain. This is a wonderful store. The owners were in the store talking with customers and making everyone feel at home. I do believe that they have just about everything that you would ever want. AND! Everything was so reasonably priced. I know the cast iron cook wear was better priced than my local Walmart ! Staff was helpful and pleasant. All in all, it was a small town experience not often found today. read more

There is no place I would rather go for any of my hardware needs. Yes, there are a lot of things sold here that appeal to tourists and novelty seekers. But when I, being a local, need something for my house to fix something, even if I don't know what I need, I know I can go in Town Hardware and describe what is going on, and I have no doubt I will leave with EXACTLY what I need to fix my issue. They are friendly and helpful, but you can find that in a lot of stores. But to go into a place where you KNOW you will in one stop find the exact things you need brings me here every time. I will be helped by people who are knowledgeable and not just someone who worked in toys last week but got put in hardware this week and has no clue as to how to help me. The years of knowledge this store and its employees hold it the greatest asset to this community. They are never impatient and take time to hear what is going on and lead me to exactly where I need to find my solution. I won't go anywhere else! read more

I was surprised by how much stuff was in here- it's pretty much a one stop shop. From some cute toy for your niece to a cheesy beer opener keychain for you boyfriend, to a cast iron skillet for your Mom... This place has it. It's the size of two stores, so they're able to squeeze in a lot of stuff.
