    The barb wire obstacle.
    Heather J.

I was fearful to try the Tough Mudder but when Warrior Dash folded I got a free ticket for the 5k. I've done various obstacle course races before but don't love mud and lack upper body strength. My friend's were willing to try it out and registration online was easy enough. The race itself was much more fun than I thought it would be. I was happy to find I was able to complete most of the obstacles with assistance. There truly was a sense of teamwork on the course. We decided it was silly to injure ourselves doing the piggy back one and skipped that, but all the other obstacles were fun and somewhat challenging. The lines to do each obstacle were not too bad. People were patient if you needed to make more than one attempt. There were some things about the race I did not enjoy. Even though I had a free code for entry I still had to pay an additional 20$ for parking. There was also an 8$ charge for bag check. We waited in the pouring rain for an insane amount of time to get checked in, this appeared to be done so slowly mostly so that people could have their age verified and get their bracelet for their "free beer". None of us had originally planned to take advantage of our free beer, but were not given the option to bypass this. At the end of the event we decided we might as well try to take advantage of this since we had waited so long to get our age verified, but then we found out the beer was only available by a "donation" and that we could not even chose the type of beer we wanted. Craft beer was being sold at regular price. I did really appreciate the cleaning station here. It was large and left me feeling like I had managed to leave most of the mud there (not true, I still can't get it out of my shoes). I also really liked the free pictures from the event, I wish photographers were at every obstacle, but the pictures I was able to find turned out great.

This is the best and pretty much the only gym in the area to train at if you are looking for a ninja warrior type experience. The place is small and in its infancy, but they have large aspirations and are adding new obstacles weekly. David (the person who runs the gym) is great and has been building obstacles upon request for ninjas preparing for the upcoming American Ninja competition in a couple weeks. They have the essentials here. A warped wall, a salmon ladder and a lot of hanging grips to work on. I also bring my son here during kids classes and he has a blast. The adult open gym is affordable and what I normally go to. The kids classes are pricey IMO though and you have to commit to a tuition with an initial fee. They follow the same model as the attached gymnastics gym (which owns Sumner Ninja). A drop in kids rate would be nice. Looking forward to training here a lot more!!!

He gave us tips on how to succeed on the obstacles and encouraged us to try everything. The gym itself had all the remnants of American Ninja Warrior (scaled down of course). We booked it for 90 minutes, but David let us stay over a few minutes to flip the tire and try a few more obstacles. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for an awesome group activity or if you're a fan of the show. If you're booking a party, I would recommend keeping the group small (maybe no more than 15) so everybody has a chance to do the obstacles multiple times. With the ten of us, we never felt like we were waiting around too much and got adequate rush between each obstacle.

I am a regular climber somewhere around V5 and 5.10, and I found the rope course very engaging. They have a laser tag area, rock climbing and even gem stone mining for the littles. But the main reason everyone comes here is the elevated obstacle course in air. Everyone starts out with about 30 minutes of instruction on how to navigate the course safely. This mainly due to the fact that you have two tethers and only one can be up clipped at a time. Once you are up in the obstacle course you will find green(easy), blue(intermediate) and black(oh heck no). The option for you to personalize your adventure is always in your control. The staff watches very attentively over their guests. I did see them in action a couple times sprint out to check on a potential issue, that did not materialize, but they were there. The coming down from the upper levels is the best part, zip lines. There are multiple zip lines and multiple places to exit the course. This is a fun places for the kids and adults to play and experience. The pricing was very reasonable for the time we had on the course.

Kelly recognized I had five this a few times before and made certain to call out how to make the zipping more exciting. The course is very well maintained, and beautiful! Nestled in dense forest within Bellevue! Did not ever have to worry about safety. Right from the start, they are using very high quality gear, and their practices are the best. As a trained climbing director, I have to say I appreciated everything they had available, how they communicated with each other at each station, and the practices they followed. I had maximum confidence in our safety.

There was absolutely no guidance provided on the ropes course--kids and adults were getting stuck with no one to help. There was a staff member named Jack, but instead of assisting, he seemed more focused on his headphones and made no effort to support us. We literally had to shout to get his attention, and even then, he was unhelpful. This was extremely disappointing, especially for an adventure activity meant for kids, many of whom are new to ropes courses and need proper guidance. Sadly, it wasn't just us--other customers appeared to be having the same frustrating experience. For what is supposed to be a fun and safe adventure, the lack of supervision and support made it absolutely pathetic.

There's a total of 6 zip lines. They start at shorter and easier and increase in difficulty. I wouldn't say it's a very extreme zip line, there were plenty of young children doing it as well. Fun fact: the longest zip line is slightly longer than the Space Needle in length! There were about 8 people on the tour with my husband and I (not including guides). I think the only con is having to wait for everyone at every canopy which is understandable for a safety point of view but can take some time and I'm a bit impatient. But you're quite high up so I took the time to enjoy the views, peace and quiet of being in the forest! Also, a good opportunity to strike up some conversation with everyone else. The staff helped us get into our gear, get in and out of every zip line and gave us a velocity push when we wanted extra speed very kindly. Halfway through the tour, you even get freshly made lavender lemonade which was delicious. I would try to book this in advance if you're trying to go on a weekend. I went on a Friday afternoon and was lucky enough to book same day. All in all, if you're looking for a fun day trip activity nearby Seattle - this was an hour and a half drive and just a lovely day!
