Tough Mudder Michigan 2026 was sooo soft. This year was the third time our team signed up. If it was this poor the first year, we would never have gone back. Check in lines took nearly two hours to get through. When I finally got to the front and asked if I could pick up our team (corporate) wristbands there as well, the check in guy had no idea at all what I was talking about. Never hear of corporate gold sign up or "team" before. He yelled to his supervisor who gave us the same blank stare, then said, "I dont know, I am going to have to ask Brad." Their were no sponsors around like last couple years, sporting complimentary energy drinks, deodorant, etc. I got the impression they bailed on this failing event. Obstacles were very clearly thrown together. No ropes where their were supposed to be ropes to aid climbers, no ice bath. Mud walls that should have been 2 feet above water to force you to struggle to climb over were reduced knee height while wading through shin deep water. And you didnt even have to step over them, foot wide gaps meant you could simply walk the 30 feet through the water. Weak. Just example after example of crap thrown together. No Arctic Enema, no Everest. Whoever was in charge of this event in Michigan did not care about the brand or the long term success of it here. They got their money and phoned it in. Cheers to the motivator who gave the safety brief at the start line. That guy was awesome. Hey Spartan... PLEASE do better. Bring back people who care. the run was cool but they offered an extra timing medal to get shipped after the race and noone knew anything about how to get it or anything about it. And the sponsors this year was severely lacking. The water wasnt on at the end so you couldn't rinse off if you wanted to. And we waited in line for an hour so good thing we showed up early or we would've missed the our start time. When we left after finishing the line to get in was about a mile long. Tough Mudder sold tickets for Nashville event Oct 18-19 and then did not host the 19 at all. They're now refusing to acknowledge any of the customer service inquiries regarding this. They sold tickets for an event and then didn't even host it. The least they could do is refund the people that bought Sunday tickets. This is fraud. read more

I do not recommend doing any sort of business with Tough Mudder or any of its affiliates. We purchased tickets to the race scheduled 10/19 in Nashville, TN. We are from Seattle so bought flights, hotel etc. Arrived to race an hour before scheduled start time only to be told that the race was cancelled. They claim to have emailed everyone to let them know that they automatically transferred tickets to the previous race day, I never received any email communication and my registered ticket still shows the original 10/19 race day. We were told by staff at the race that this was Tough Mudder's fault and to reach out for reimbursement, then their 3rd party customer service system auto closed tickets and refused to help at all. No compensation, no ticket for future race. I asked for a phone number to call to talk to someone, they simply just stopped responding to the email chain. I've filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, on the site there are other complaints as well from both customers and vendors. Interact with this company at your own risk, they don't seem to care at all about individual customers. read more

I was fearful to try the Tough Mudder but when Warrior Dash folded I got a free ticket for the 5k. I've done various obstacle course races before but don't love mud and lack upper body strength. My friend's were willing to try it out and registration online was easy enough. The race itself was much more fun than I thought it would be. I was happy to find I was able to complete most of the obstacles with assistance. There truly was a sense of teamwork on the course. We decided it was silly to injure ourselves doing the piggy back one and skipped that, but all the other obstacles were fun and somewhat challenging. The lines to do each obstacle were not too bad. People were patient if you needed to make more than one attempt. There were some things about the race I did not enjoy. Even though I had a free code for entry I still had to pay an additional 20$ for parking. There was also an 8$ charge for bag check. We waited in the pouring rain for an insane amount of time to get checked in, this appeared to be done so slowly mostly so that people could have their age verified and get their bracelet for their "free beer". None of us had originally planned to take advantage of our free beer, but were not given the option to bypass this. At the end of the event we decided we might as well try to take advantage of this since we had waited so long to get our age verified, but then we found out the beer was only available by a "donation" and that we could not even chose the type of beer we wanted. Craft beer was being sold at regular price. I did really appreciate the cleaning station here. It was large and left me feeling like I had managed to leave most of the mud there (not true, I still can't get it out of my shoes). I also really liked the free pictures from the event, I wish photographers were at every obstacle, but the pictures I was able to find turned out great. read more

I've enjoyed the tough mudder previously. Sure it has its flaws, but everything does. However, this year they required EVERYONE to purchase a bag drop ticket and a parking pass. They pretend to promote a team spirit, but don't provide any incentive to build a team. Plus they hiked the price to the point the day-to-day working people can't afford to participate anymore. When did fitness become a rich people's pastime? Oh, and you better check your bank statement. They sneak in some bogus membership scam with Active and try a tack on another $100 charge. You have to wend your way through their website (not the tough mudder site) to opt out. This is a company out for money, and it seems like they're willing to snatch it out of your pocket any way they can get it! read more

Tough mudders are always a good time and 2018 was no different. We had a great crew and were helped by other awesome people because we had an odd numbered group. Lots of new obstacles this year and my favorite was the block ness monster - super fun getting over those blocks and falling into a pit of muddy water. Overall I'm glad I went to the middle of nowhere to run this and had a great time. read more

Each year they bring in new/fun/different obstacles and challenges that keep it different and fun. Tough Mudder Seattle is an excellent course for beginners as well as seasoned OCR runners! There is something for everybody and it is challenging without being impossible. Get some!! Extreme obstacle course...11 miles & 22 obstacles. 2nd time running a tough mudder course. Comparing one TM course to another might not be fair, but this course was about 1/2 of the challenge that the Squaw Valley course in 2011 was. I was actually extremely disappointed that the course didn't provide more of a challenge. The obstacles were shorter and not as imaginative, the overall course was slightly shorter, and the course was flat. I am not an exercise junkie, but am former military and appreciates a little challenge. Isn't that why you do these events???? Other issues with the venue was that the parking situation was really poorly planned out. Getting into the event took over and hour and we missed our start time (which isn't an issue, but we still wanted to start earlier than later). Exiting was thankfully fixed after there was a two hour wait forming. They opened the entrance to be used as an exit and we were luckily one of the first cars told about it. There were also less sponsors on site and the pre & post event festivities were totally lacking. I think TM really dropped the ball on this part. For most people this was probably their first TM event since it has never been to WA or OR, but the headband which you earn feels a lot more special from Squaw than this year. TM must give a better challenge next time to get my support and trust that it will be an event that is one of the "toughest on the planet." I ran the course on Sat 9/29 and it felt more like a FUN RUN that barely made you break a sweat. Guess if I am interested in running another race then I will have to check the actual location and travel to it again. On a side note - It is awesome that they support the WWP (Wounded Warrior Project) and I am always stoked to provide support to that non-profit. read more

I have been locked in a back and forth exchange with Mitchell Kenigsberg, Customer Service Representative, of Tough Mudder Races and Active, Inc., for two weeks now. I reached out to inquire about a refund for the 2020 Seattle Mudder Classic 10k race I purchased. Tough Mudder canceled that race of their own accord due to Covid-19. I had no problem with that and assumed my tickets would transfer to the next available race date for Seattle. However, in January of this year I had a catastrophic injury and and I am not medically allowed or capable to run the September race now. I let Mitchell know this, and offered to provide medical documentation and doctor's note, instead of working with me, he cited the cancellation policy and told me that start times would be assigned to my wife and I and I have no reasonable expectation that those times would match up. He told me Tough Mudder sent out an email in January explaining how to register to pick a start time.  I looked for that email, and amongst the deluge of spam Tough Mudder has sent me over the year, there was no registration email. Maybe it went to junk, maybe they didn't send it. I don't know. What I do know is, if they're are going to set up a short deadline to get value out of your paid tickets, then they should make every attempt to ensure that the customer is notified of that deadline. One email that may or may not have ended up in the junk file is certainly not an effective attempt.  But then, Tough Mudder lost a lot of money on the 2020 race, maybe their hoping to overbook this year and the 2020 customers don't get to get a refund, transfer, selected race time, or maybe even will not know how to sign back up.  Either way, I tried to work within their ridiculously anti-customer and opportunist policy and at least get my wife and I the same start time and figure out a transfer or something as September approaches.  Mitchell, feeling so generous, sent me a code to use to pick a start time that expired the following day. He didn't tell me how or where to use it. When I fumbled my way through it I realized my wife's ticket wasn't there. I reached out again after his arbitrary deadline had already passed and told him this. I found my wife's account and he, after pressing him, gave me another code for her. That code expired a few hours after he sent it. I didn't get the email till the following morning. So after calling him on it, he gave me till that night at 8:59pm PST. I immediately attempted to lock in both our race times together but was given an invalid message for the codes. I notified him of my multiple attempts. That was Friday, he didn't return my email till Monday when he told me that I was supposed to disregard my already active account and buy two new tickets and use the code, not as a registration code, as he had told me it was, but as a coupon code at checkout. He also explained to me that it was too late now and that I would be assigned a start time and would not commit to allowing my wife and my start time to be guarantee to match up. Even after I relented and told him I'd take an assigned start time.  I explained to him over and over again my medical situation, that my wife and I are both disabled Veterans who really like the race because of its team building and goal achieving challenges. I told him we'd be racing again as soon as my foot was healed enough that I could put those stresses on it. I even asked him if I could just transfer my ticket to another person so they could race with my wife. I cited their own policy on it and he said I could not because the race hasn't been created yet!?! Really??  I've asked to speak to managers, he won't let me. I've asked to have a phone call. He won't do it. I've asked for a refund citing Covid and my injury. It seems like they are using their policy which doesn't include pandemic procedures to steal people's money. I've asked to defer to 2022, which is allowed in their own policy, but he denied that too. I've asked to transfer my ticket to another racer and he has denied that. I've asked him to let me choose matching start times for my wife and I and he gave me a vague code and no instructions on how to use it along with a short expiration timer that made it very unlikely that I, crippled, while at work, commuting, seeing the doctor, kids, cooking dinner, etc., had no opportunity to use in such a short amount of time.  Then when I'd given up on all other avenues and simply asked him to "assign" my wife and I the same start times so we could at least be made whole after THEY canceled our first race, he would not even acknowledge the request. He did however say we would be assigned start times, and no they may not be the same. read more

If you are looking for that next challenge to physically push yourself, I highly recommend Tough Mudder for your next go-to event! Team Pandavores was a team of 2, which suited us fine; with hope, we'll be able to round up more peoples for the coming one in May 2013 (can you believe tickets are already on sale?? Get in now while it's cheap!) Do I hear a UYE in the works?? You can bet that Yelper Jay H. and I will be in the mix to prepare for the SPARTAN RACE in August. Once you do Spartan, you can sign up for...DUN DUN DUUUUNN!! The Death Race. Google it. It will scare the poop out of you. We did the Sunday one yesterday, which meant that the TM HQ had ironed out all the complex logistics of Saturday's event. Parking was awesome (got there an hour early.) It was hard not to feel pumped up as you begin the race by scaling an 8-foot wall, which was followed by the most horrendous sensation I have ever felt. The Arctic Enema is the ice bath you have to jump into, then go under a wall while under water. Eff that sucked. Let me say it again. Eff that sucked. Now I know why Rose didn't let Jack onto that door. The obstacles were challenging - 22 in all over 11 miles of terrain: electrical shocks while on your stomach in the water AND at the end, scaling walls, rings, monkey bars that spin, carrying a partner piggyback 100 yards then switching, jumping 15 (?) feet into 12 feet of water, a 1/2 mile log carry, steeple runs, cargo nets, and lots and LOTS of teamwork. My kind of event. Here's some recs: DO wear fingerless gloves. DO work on hand-strength (Think of the movie, "The Big Hit"...but not for the same reason.) DO both cardio and strength-training beforehand. We made a pact to run the whole thing--no walking--and by gosh, we did it. DO have a team. It's waaay more fun. And if you can, have spectators--they get the best pics LOL DO wear light shoes. I wore barefoot trail-running shoes and the only time it didn't serve me well was over the long stretches of large river rocks. Ouchie. This event was so much fun. My buddy Mike and I had a blast on this course. This is my kind of event. Marathons really just aren't my thing, just running for the sake of running gets boring so having the 20+ obstacles along the way was great. We both qualified for the Toughest Mudder in NJ but weren't able make the trip. We are already registered for this years event and hope to qualify again. At the end the free beer you get is exactly what you need after kicking your own ass for 12ish miles. I highly recommend this event to anyone who likes to compete but gets bored simply running. Participating in the Tough Mudder was seriously one of the most entertaining things I have ever done. I have run countless 5/8/10K races, as well as half-marathons before and nothing is comparable to the Tough Mudder.! We have taken teams to 3 events so far, and plan to do many more. Pandas eating pandas. Team Pandavores came, we saw and we conquered. Cynthia L. and I were a team of two; a dynamic duo. Working as a team and helping other teams and solo participants we made our way through electroshock, subfreezing temperature water pits, crawled beneath razor wire on gravel, climbed walls, pulled ourselves up muddy cliffs and just generally kicked major ass as we ran 11 miles of muddy trails and hills. We were on the Sunday of this two day event and it seems all the traffic issues and bottle-necking on the course were well worked out by the time we arrived. My girlfriend watched her brother on the Saturday and mentioned these issues but we didn't experience them at all. I found the course to be well marked for Mudders but our spectators mentioned getting lost a few times. There was plenty of water (every two miles) and bananas on the course as well as first aid stations. I had a blast! Was it as hard as I was expecting/hoping? No, but it was plenty of fun and it was challenging. I wish there would have been some sort of fire obstacle but other than that I enjoyed the varieties of obstacles to overcome. Some similar events I've done have been too easy or unimaginative with their obstacles. The coolest thing for me with Tough Mudder is the sense of community and camaraderie as you compete against yourself. From complete strangers cheering each other on and high fiving to complete strangers making their own course more difficult so they can help out another Mudder... this event was all about making sure everyone finishes. If you've done mud runs, pretended to be a gladiator or skipped through a dash for warriors and found them lacking then this is your next step. If you're like me and ready for the big challenge (Death Race) this is a great way to add to your training. I'm already registered for next year... are you? I'm a fan! read more

I'm firing the chain gun. To be completely honest I will have to say that I didn't actually participate. I was however a spectator which not only costs a fair bit of of money (pay attention to the timeline for buying tickets...they double in price) but can be "tough" in and of itself. This is mainly due to the fact that if you are there to root your friends on it damn near impossible to distinguish them between all the other contestants. Basically everyone is covered in mud. Just as there was comradeship amongst the mudders there was an equal amount among us spectators. Will I spectate next year or participate... Unknown. What I do know is that this event is well organized, well thought out, and in the middle of nowhere. Worth a peek next year. read more
