Took the Basic Riders Course. The instructor Erik Marquez was great. Very knowledgeable and instructs in a common sense adult to adult style. He keeps the classroom and riders day training very professional but lively. Never a dull moment. Bad side is that I wish the motorcycles at the track day included dual sport bikes. I currently do not own a cruiser type bike so something in a sportbike would be preferred. Obviously it's not Erik choice but the Total Rider Company. I'd recommend the course to anyone. I didn't take the course from Harley cause I heard they would push or talk a lot about buying a bike. I don't like people trying to sell me something when I should focus on the training. Thumbs up to Erik and Killeen Powersports for not bugging classroom attendees about purchasing a bike. Awesome time. Wish it was cheaper though. read more

The bikes are old and clapped out! Don't go here! My bike had a poor throttle. It wouldn't snap back at times. I'm new to motorcycles and felt I was being belittled and judged. I asked for help and kept being told go online and figure it out. Online vs learning hand on hand are 2 different things. Walking away from this class felt good! Everything felt extremely rushed and if you were last to finish he would tell you to hurry up! Don't waste your money here. read more

Don't WASTE your money here! Please go to a different location or course. I do not recommend taking a class at the Killeen location. The coach (Tim) is absolutely an intolerable grumpy ageist. He belittles people as soon as they walk into the class room. He pokes fun at people that are young or people that have no experience riding (this is a beginner course) In the class room he makes the class read the slides instead of being an actual instructor. On the training grounds, He yelled at people in a very unsupportive way. He makes people so nervous so they can't concentrate on the courses. He wants you to fail so that you will have to pay for the course multiple times. I didn't want to show up for day two because of this instructor. (If you can call him that.) He only coaches the from the book. You would be better off watching YouTube videos. read more

I want to extend my deepest thanks to Total Rider and to Mr. Glen Pugh. I am a brand new rider and passed my class this weekend. I want to specifically bring your attention to a great man and instructor Glen. Glen has a passion for riding and a passion for teaching others. His expertise, patience and hands-on tips have made me a more confident rider (this was my first time riding EVER). Glen saw where I had the struggle and also saw where I was strong. His keen eye for teaching his student is impeccable. I realized if I pay attention and LISTEN this will keep me alive on the road to continue to have FUN on my bike. Safety is Glen's utmost concern for all of us. Glen is professional, personable and very patient. I thank this man for his time and knowledge. I will never forget the lessons he taught all of us. I will specifically remember to "make sure the bike is in 1st gear at a stop to reduce stalling and staying safe!!" God brings people into your life for a reason, from day one Glen makes his students feel comfortable and welcome. I look forward to more training with your company and hopefully with Glen again in the future. KUDOS to Total Rider. read more

***response to Frank*** Sir. You clearly did not read nor are you familiar with my experience with TotalRider. This had nothing to do with skill. It was an equipment failure. Meaning - you all are placing your students on FAILING equipment. The bike I was on was leaking gas and jerking. The second bike was just as faulty and was never even tested or warmed by the instructor. I would understand if the concern was my inability to ride. However, I was passing all the range exercises and received a 92 on my written and completed the online course with Excellence. So. My experience with your Company has everything to do with your Company and hence I'm the ONLY review you've had in the past 4/5 years. Because you are not meeting the needs nor are you all providing a joyful experience or even helpful for your students. Take heed. Accept that you all need to make some changes and I hope my review helps other new riders to steer CLEAR of your Company and/or you all treat people with the respect all paying students and patrons of your business deserve. We the tax paying citizens make the DPS salary. We pay for your course. Thereby WE deserve to be given the ultimate customer service provisions. Thank you *****My Original Review****** My experience with this Company was awful. My suggestion is that you take your money and either get private lessons from someone experienced or sign up for a different program. The online course is the most informative part of the class. The class instruction was minimal and the instructor (Tim) had students read aloud the course material and conduct our own exercises. He was impatient with the class if we did not know the answer he was looking for and he seemed annoyed to have to actually teach anything therefore using sarcasm to turn all questions back to the learner until you give up and just don't ask or speak anymore in class. The range equipment was sub par. I got thrown out of class for their equipment failing - gas leak. That I had to point out to the instructor. He dismissed my concern, had me ride on the vehicle and then ended up yelling at me in front of the entire class when he got frustrated with my inability to quickly learn another faulty back up bike from the garage. The Operations Manager was rude and condescending when I called to discuss this issue and attempted to get me to quit riding bikes altogether because she couldn't handle owning a customer service/instructor failure. Jeff - not sure his title but he said he manages the instructors was able to get me a mechanical drop and schedule me for another class. Unfortunately that weekend I had an out of town death in my family and called. Emailed. And when I called to reschedule a few days later when back in town, with her nasty attitude, Mindy said it would be another $75 to reschedule. I was only a few hours shy of finishing the course - and will not pay $75 on top of $215 already paid. I'd already have to do all of the course over again and had been originally inconvenienced by TotalRider. Really the money isn't the issue. The people at TotalRider are - with the exception of Jeff, this Team of people are unprofessional and obviously money driven over safety and service oriented. I wouldn't recommend this course to anyone wanting to learn anything about riding. The good folks at Killeen PowerSports where I got my bike referred me to this class. They said Tim was the "best" instructor- since he is known as their best ... I wouldn't want to meet up with their worst. My plan is to move out of state and work with a whole other State to finish my learning and riding credentials. This experience has been bad enough for me to seek out a more positive and professional environment to learn and safely ride in. read more

Signed up for the MSF with Total Rider and was excited to learn the basics on how to ride. I had only been a bike passenger before so riding was a new experience. My experience with this company is a unique one because I eventually ended up having to take the course twice! The first time was a big misunderstanding, but Mindy, the Operations Manager, went above and beyond to make sure I was accommodated. I took the classroom portion with the instructor, Tim, and passed the written exam. Then drove an hour back and forth for the two days of riding to Hutto for the riding portion with Jeff, the Program Manager. He was a really great instructor, he knows his stuff and was right on with his observations of what I needed to improve on. I let my emotions and personal issues take my focus off enjoying the class so I eventually failed the course. I was upset but Jeff took me aside and let me down easy. He offered some great advice and I have nothing but respect for him and his decision, which I have to admit was the right one. I wasn't ready. He saw that I had potential but advised me not to give up. So I signed up again and this time, I was able to stay focused, learn and enjoy learning to ride. Tim was very informative and patient with everyone. He has many years of experience and knowledge. Since I had taken the course once before, Tim pushed me to be a leader to the others. He saw that I was focused and determined. He helped me get my confidence back on the bike but also let me know right away what I needed to work on. I offered my classmates advice and tips that I had learned previously. One girl in the class was having trouble, she was nervous, wobbly on the bike and dumped it a couple of times. She broke down crying out of frustration. I walked over to her and hugged her, gave her some dignity back and pushed her to keep trying just like I was told to do. I felt so proud that my efforts worked! We all passed the class!! I'm so happy I was able to take my misfortunes and turn it into a positive not only for myself but for others. I would recommend Total Rider for those who are committed and are eager to learn. Respect to both these guys (and Mindy)! They are awesome and I'm glad I got to have this experience, not once, but twice. Now, Im ready to ride!!! read more

Total Rider - Range portion of the class - Driving Schools Near Me - Killeen, Texas

I had to get my motorcycle license for my job. ERIK MARQUEZ was one of the best teachers I ever had. The man is entertaining and informative. He did a great job making sure the we were safe and having fun. The bikes were easy to learn on and the directions were simple and straight to the point. I recommend everyone who comes into the dealership to Erik for especially the basic rider course as well as the advanced rider. read more

Absolutely the worst two days of my life. The instructor that I had was a horrible person. On day one I was humiliated because of my gender preference in front of the class. He refused to address me as I wished to be. I did not pay 200 to be treated like this. Ever since our first bad encounter it was all down hill from there. His slick and condescending remarks were completely unacceptable. As an experienced rider, I came in to change an out of state license. Day one of riding my bike worked fine, second day I was switched out due to a key issue. The bike I received had a clutch cable that kept coming loose from the lever. I told the coach about it. He adjusted it once. I adjusted it a few more times. I constantly told him I was having issues. When it came down to testing, he would not let me finish the test. After the second test he asked me to leave. Would not let me try on another bike. I did not complete the testing phases. This man was out of control with his disrespect and lack of human decency. He did not connect with any student present. None of us were fond of him, he made others nervous. He was not patient. And I was unable to get a certificate, I feel it was based solely off him not liking me and having previous issues with me. I will never ever recommend this to anyone ! So many other options. Do not do not do not go here. You will not be treated as a human. You will not be respected. And you will not have a good time ! ! As someone who flys cargo jets for a living and has experience on a bike, I was humiliated. Never in my life have I been treated like this. I work too hard and am too successful for some instructor that I PAID to teach me like this. Unbelievable. read more

Just completed the Basic Rider Course today and it was very exciting. I am glad I was able to go through it, having Erik Marquez as instructor. I have never been on a motorcycle before and he took away the nervousness and I was able to learn, and now I can ride safely with confidence. read more

I just got my license last week, and Eric is an amazing instructor. I showed up nervous as could be but he made me feel comfortable by not rushing the training and actually taking the time to ensure we understood the basics before moving on to the next step. Amazing class all around. - Amber read more

Horrible company! They are very shady and have horrible information, was told class started at a certain time in the email I recieved was told something different by instructor. I had to reschedule so I chose to use another comoany who offers military discounts and is much more user friendly. I have a email stating that there needs to be at least three people for riding days, we had a total of four for my riding days myself and fiancee included. After we were told to reschedule and would have to pay again, Im sure the other two riders will be told the same thing. I will make sure I never recommended them to anyone I work with and will make sure my soldiers do not use them. Killeen Motorsports offers the same class with much more friendly staff and also offer military discounts. read more
