Catherine looks very chic and the shop is small but cute. Looks really deceive though. She bat crazy! I asked for a cut, brought a pic, and she refused to cut my hair for what I wanted. It would have been simple to make the client happy, but no, she disagreed with what I wanted and was honest in saying so. So I gotta give her honesty one star. Very strange experience. Most of my co-workers go to Cathy for hair color and cuts. They all have beautiful hair, and I made a decision to divorce my current stylist of 10 years. He completely lost his edge when he became part owner of a "hoity toity" salon in Walnut Creek, so I decided to give Cathy a try. For a first impression, I was fairly disappointed. I was her only second appointment and already she was 45 minutes late in receiving me. When she finally got to me, she was easily distracted by people coming in and out of the salon and every time she would converse with me or others she would stop working on my hair. It felt like I was in there for hours. Other than that she is very nice............but nice doesn't get me the color and cut that I want. I ended up coming out of the salon looking 10 years older. That is a no no for me. She is very trendy with cuts.....but the trendy cuts does not work for everyone. You cannot do the same cut on everyone and expect it to look great. This is why I left my other stylist in the first place. Although my experience wasn't a great one, I have to admit that my co-workers hair still looks great. Maybe she just wasn't the right fit for me. In the meantime, my search for my perfect stylist is still pending. read more

Let's just first start off with, I have NEVER in my entire life yelped anything..I am so disappointed and surprised to see that this place even has good ratings. I bought a deal on living social for a facial, I called them to make an appointment and spent about 20min on the phone with them because they were booked for awhile. But I had to call back to give them my voucher number because I didn't have it present with me then and when I called back Cathy (the OWNER) informed me that my appointment wasn't on record and I explained to her how I spent 20min on the phone earlier. I told Cathy I didn't understand why my appointment wasn't booked and was wondering the lady name I spoke to earlier and she replied back with a horrible and rude tone and said "listen I told you earlier I couldn't do anything about that" and HUNG UP ON ME, I called back and she turned off her phone. I know a lot of people who run businesses and that is no way to handle an upset customer. I highly DO NOT RECOMMEND this place and the worse part is I received TERRIBLE service and I wasn't even seen in person. On top of all this I had to call living social back to get my refund which was also time consuming. read more

I went to see Catherine after trying 3 other salons who told me I needed to cut my hair in order for them to do an updo. I had been growing out my hair FOR the wedding! When I walked into the tiny salon in San Bruno that advertised Total Concern for the Bride the first thing I asked is is my hair too long for an updo? Do I need to cut it? And Catherine said "No way!" I went ahead with a trial updo. I didn't have an exact picture of what I wanted my hair to look like for the wedding, but Catherine was able to make my LONG hair look like a work of art - on the first try! I loved it. The true test was on the wedding day with my brides maids and their particulars of some wanting half up and some wanted it down, others super picky. She was able to do all 6 and my Mom by herself and all were satisifed with the result. I was so relieved! (My Mom has been going to see her on a regular basis for cut and color ever since) If you want to know that your hair and makeup will go smoothly on your wedding day, or you're just looking for a new hairdresser who is truly talented at what she does - go see Catherine. read more

One of my besties took me here to get a facial when I went to the Bay Area. It was a more than a facial it was an experience. The facial concentrated on your face and your pores and getting all that bad stuff out and cleansing. The extractions didn't hurt. She has good touch and got it all out without your face being swollen or red. It was very relaxing. At the end of the treatment I got a mini massage. It was more than I expected and a nice surprise. I used to live in NYC and would get facials on regular basis and never had the extra treatment. Like I said this was an experience. After the facial I received a complimentary massage from the massage therapist, which was super cool. When I left the salon I was glowing and felt like a million bucks. Plus the cost was not bad at all. After the facial, I loved how my skin looked. I bought the eye cream and love it. I went to Claire. She is amazing. I definitely recommend her. read more

Absolutely love this Salon!!! Catherine was fantastic! She gave me an amazing hair cut. Love what she did with my hair! It was unhealthy and she completely brought it back to life! She cut my hair exactly like I wanted it, but better! Besides being an amazing hairdresser she takes the time to talk with you and get to know you and is extremely genuine. She surrounds herself with others just like her in the salon! Everyone was extremely friendly and kind! The salon atmosphere is fantastic and intimate and relaxing!!! She has everything Aveda and represents the products so well! Overall I had the best experience. I have been looking for a hairdresser for a while and finally found it! I was on the fence about giving 4 or 5 stars on a whole, but, the bottom line is, I love how my hair is cut and Aveda Color is so far superior than other color I've had that I will never go to any other salon now--so, that's got to deserve a 5. I've never seen any other stylist use the technique that Catherine implements and she is just excellent. Sure, I'm not surprised by some of the other mixed reviews. When you walk in the tiny salon, they don't always gush all over you with the hellos&howareyous but when it's your turn, the focus is all on YOU. Also, Catherine is very direct and opinionated on what will look good and what won't. My first time there I wasn't super happy with the cut but I didn't really say anything before or after. The second time I went, I told her what I thought--what I liked and didn't like, and she got it--then it was golden from then on. So, try to explain clearly what you want and what you don't want, otherwise, she may just do what she thinks best. And if you don't like what she thinks, you can take it or leave it, she doesn't take it personal because at the end of the day, it's your hair--you gotta like it and live with it. As for the other services, the Massage therapist, Gloria, is really good, however, the salon itself is not really conducive for massage. No matter how hard she tries, the acoustics are not good--the room isn't truly walled off and you hear everything. So, it's really hard to get into that "relaxing" experience. I haven't tried skin care services w/ Claire yet since my allegiance is to another esthetician however, she seems to have a good vibe and Aveda's skin products are so good, that I'm sure it's all great! read more

I had a 90-min facial/hand & foot treatment tonight with Claire - and it was wonderful! Claire is very professional and friendly. She takes her time and was very thorough with the extractions. She also massages your scalp, shoulders, arms & hands. It was SO relaxing! When I got home, I looked in the mirror and my skin was so soft and clean. I'm definitely going back for another facial. OMG! Cathy is a life saver. I had never been to Total Concern until yesterday when I was in a hair nightmare. I went to another salon earlier in the day where they completely butchered my hair. I called in tears to Cathy and told her that I looked like Charlie Chaplin! She told me to come on over to see what she could do about it. I arrived and she was the first to greet me and she addressed me by my name. I already felt so touched that she remembered who I was from our phone conversation. Several clients that were there told me that Cathy could work miracles and fix my butchered hair cut. Boy oh boy, Cathy sure did deliver. She had basically nothing to work with because the previous lady cut my hair so short but Cathy made magic happen. Although I still have to wait for my hair to grow back, Cathy made that journey much more bearable for me. I will be a return customer from here on out. read more

Cathy was really friendly. But I got there on time, and she said she was running 30 min behind, and asked if I could come back. So, I literally walked and and sat in my car, making a phone call that I had planned on later, then came back in 30 min later. She said she was still running late...so I sat there, until an hour after my scheduled appointment. She apologized--then went on to cut my hair far shorter than I had asked. She was very friendly and talkative (maybe too talkative, which is why her prior appt when WAY over). Afterward, I scheduled my next appt, but decided later that the experience was pretty lame, so I called later to cancel my next one. read more

Was completely disappointed that I choose this Salon. I choose it for a massage, facial, and hair cut because it was an Aveda Salon. I have been to other Aveda salons and I thought that they were all held to the same high standard of care, cleanliness,and professionalism. I was wrong and will not be returning. Massage and facial were good, but based on items mentioned above, the cost, and overall attitude I will not return even for a good massage. Also, the entire staff was 20 minutes late for my appointment. A Starbucks does not make up for this waist of my time and lack of professionalism. read more

I've always had problems when it came to getting a good haircut. There has been too many times to count where I left the different salons very upset with the way my hair had turned out. That all ended when I found Katherine at Total Concern 2. Now she is the only one I can trust with my hair! The first time I came in my hair was a complete mess after a perm another place had recommended it was frizzy and very poorly cut after I left my hair felt and looked like a million bucks! It was smooth I couldn't believe it. At work I kept getting compliment after compliment! The best thing is the hair grew out to look even better as Katherine had promised it would. Not only is Katherine fun to talk to but as a stylist she truly listens to you, REALLY looks at your hair your face shape, it's texture, your personal style, and everything else a professional hairdresser is SUPPOSED to look, and she REALLY listens you and then makes her suggestions, the cut she gives you will flatter YOU. I've had one too many hair dresser who would do a "textbook" haircut on me that didn't even match my face or bone structure. I could go on and on. I highly recommend Katherine at Total Concern 2. I am all about hair. I have had my hair cut at top stylists from London, New York and LA averaging $300 a cut because hair is soooo important to me. After moving to the bay area 3 years ago, i was largely unsuccesful in finding a great haircut. I have absolutely no problem in paying top dollar for a haircut if it makes me look good. Needless to say, I have spent about $150 dollars elsewhere in the Bay area, with no color etc, trying to get a great cut, but ended up being an ok cut, but did nothing for me. And so being the hair person that I am, I would routinely fly to LA to have my hair cut. And then I found Cathy. For about $70 (less than half of what I used to pay), I have found the BEST hair stylist I could have ever dreamed. I have been to top salons in NY, LA and London, and Cathy has by far given me the BEST cut. I have been going to Cathy for about a year now, and I am soooo thankful that I found her. It has become routine for me to have complete strangers compliment me on my hair and ask me who cuts my hair. For someone with her talent, artistry and execution for a look that is personal and suits your face, Cathy should be charging $400. We are truly lucky to have such a gem just minutes from San Francisco. There's free parking too :) read more
