The place was packed, but the service was still really good. And honestly, I loved the whole atmosphere. It reminded me so much of My Big Fat Greek Wedding that I felt like I had stepped right into the movie! Just a fun, lively place with great food and lots of character. I was given the ear right away, but the coffee person made the drink incorrectly, so that was a bit of a wait. Delicious when it was finally right. The elephant ear was just okay though. I am used to them being fluffy and flaky, and this one was just dense and flat. The bakery is attached to their restaurant next door; I'd like to visit that next trip to Tarpon Springs.

The display case had a wide variety of pastries ranging from typical bakery pastries to Greek specialties. We had the galaktobuereko, which was entirely new to us. She warned us that it would be a lot, but we were not prepared for the sheer mass that would come out. The pastry was crispy and flaky on top with the phyllo dough, and the inside was a tasty thick custard. It was also drizzled in a sweet syrup. The bottom phyllo layer soaked the syrup up, and each bite had a perfect balance of everything. Despite the size, we finished the entire thing since it was too good. I would love to come back and try their baklava. This little bakery should be on everyone's list for a sponge docks visit, especially for their galaktobuereko.

I found national bakery nestled on a little side road. there was no line, no frills. when you step inside, though, you'll be greeted by a baker who has been serving fantastic baked goods with superior customer service at incredibly fair prices -for decades. the woman who helped us was SO incredibly friendly. she stayed open late just to answer our questions about the area -after having already served us some of the most delicious baked goods I've ever had. I'd recommend going for the goodies, the friendly conversation, and old world atmosphere. skip the lines and overpriced, overhyped "show" goods.... spend your money and time on food you won't forget.
