    Scallop dinner
    Leah M.

This is such a fun place for the family or for when company is in town. We always bring guest and make sure to get the flaming cheese! I love the scallop dinner the flavors are absolutely amazing! The service is always friendly and so fast. The place does get busy but it's always a blast and the food does not disappoint.

If you're wandering through Tarpon Springs and craving something sweet, Hellas Bakery is definitely worth a stop--especially if you're into traditional Greek desserts. I decided to try the shredded baklava roll, and wow... this one hit. The outside had that perfect crispy crunch, while the inside was everything you want in a baklava--moist, sticky, sweet, loaded with honey and packed with nuts. Every bite felt rich and satisfying without being over the top. Easily a 4.7 out of 5 for me. My wife went with the chocolate baklava, and unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to the same standard. It was a bit on the dry side, and while half of it was dipped in chocolate (which sounds great in theory), it didn't really elevate the flavor. It just felt like something was missing. She landed around a 2.5 out of 5. Overall, it's a great spot with some standout items--just know that not everything on the menu hits the same. If you go, I'd definitely recommend sticking with the more traditional options.

This is my go-to for friends and family visitors from out of town. Always a great experience... Good service on numerous occasions. Our latest visit was for Easter lunch. There were no online reservations available until evening when I checked the day before, but four of us waited only 15 minutes. One disappointment was why management decided an elderly adult in their 80's couldn't order two entrees from the kids section of the menu. Why can't you just make your customers happy when two kids plates totaling $18 is pretty much the same price as one normal entree??? When I asked the waitress how can my Dad get the two things he was craving on the kids menu and she said he could order two adult entrees totaling almost $40. Huh? For an 84 year old? We could have ordered this "to-go" so how hard is this to just say yes when we are leaving you a $20 tip? Why would you need to delay things to go check with a manager? Is the manager coming around to see who is eating a kid's hot dog? My go-to is usually the gyro, which comes with just the right amount of tatziki sauce and tomato. I added a side Cesear salad for $5.50. Dad and Mom both had the burger platter. Another at the table had the Greek hamburger which comes on a pita and flavored with mint... I tried this and liked the difference from a regular burger... The pitas are always fresh here. Fries were good too. Dessert they were out of our first choice, a chocolate cheese cake. Not sure how that happens on Easter at lunch time. So we went with three other chocolate varieties and a regular baklava. The chocolate baklava was not flavorful and only rated a 3 of 10. The regular baklava was 5/10. The Tiramisu was too light with little flavor, 4/10. The chocolate kok was several people's favorites but is so small 7/10. Initially we were going to grab 3-4 additional for breakfast the next morning but overall dessert was a "miss" so decided to skip this after eating our selections. They have inside and outside seating. On this day our table was at a window open to the street outside (see my pic from the table). Great for people watching on a busy weekend but there were several bees that kept coming in. The place can be a little loud when it reaches capacity. Opa! Next time we'll have to borrow a child to get Dad what he wanted.

My wife and I had a fantastic dining experience at Hellas Restaurant & Bakery in Tarpon Springs. This place has a well-earned reputation as one of the iconic Greek restaurants in the area if not the entire US, and our visit absolutely lived up to it. From the moment we sat down, the service was truly world class thanks to our server, Demetrios. He was welcoming, attentive, and clearly passionate about both the food and the guest experience. He made great recommendations, checked in at just the right times, and created the kind of atmosphere that makes a meal feel special rather than just routine dining. We started with the Saganaki, the famous flaming cheese, and it was nothing short of mind-blowing. Watching it arrive flaming tableside is fun on its own, but the flavor is what really stood out--perfectly crisp on the outside, warm and creamy inside, and incredibly rich. It was one of those dishes that immediately sets the tone for the entire meal. For our entrées, we ordered the Moussaka and the Aegean Salmon, and both were exactly what we had hoped for at a classic Greek restaurant. The Moussaka was hearty and full of flavor with beautifully layered ingredients and a rich, satisfying finish. The Aegean Salmon was cooked perfectly and seasoned wonderfully, delivering a lighter but equally flavorful option. Of course, we couldn't leave without dessert. We finished with the Greek Key Lime and Baklava, and both were excellent. The Baklava had that perfect balance of flaky pastry, honey sweetness, and nuts, while the Greek-style key lime dessert added a refreshing twist to end the meal. Between the incredible food, the authentic atmosphere, and the outstanding service from Demetrios, this was a memorable experience from start to finish. Hellas is clearly a cornerstone of the Tarpon Springs dining scene, and if you're visiting the area, it's absolutely worth a stop.

If you are visiting you MUST come here. Do not bother going to any other restaurant, my family and I have been coming to this place for years and love it. Usually weekends have a 15-30min wait, but they have benches out front to wait. You cannot go wrong with any of the food items but we usually do the cooked shrimp plate or the salads, portions are perfect! Service is always on point and food is always fresh and flavorful. PRO-TIP: if you eat here, they have their own parking lot behind the restaurant kind of up the hill but it is FREE if you dine with them. Ask your server for a ticket so you can exit the lot.

Yes, this is a five all day The outside is so welcoming you just wanna be drawn inside to the amazing showcases of wonderful Greek pastries that to me are eye candy I didn't even know where to begin so I ordered the spinach baklava. I think that's what it's called. Along with a small Greek coffee. The spinach pastry was so savory, warm, and just hit the spot for breakfast. The outside pastry shell was so crumbly, and the spinach inside was delectable seasoned just right. I loved this Greek coffee, and found to be habit forming. I wanted one more, but thought I would probably be bouncing off the walls The barista was so knowledgeable, friendly, and made this Greek coffee perfectly The owner was also in there and greeted me like an old friend. This is a campus. This is a must try. This is a here take my money. The pastry in the coffee was just a little bit over $10 and well worth it. I tipped generously as the service was impeccable. Get here early, I was here by 9:05 AM for the numerous choices of the pastries and the lesser crowds

We sat outside next to a heat lamp rather than waiting:30 for an indoor table. Teri waited on us, she wasn't very cheerful. It was very noisy outside between the cars, people walking by, children running, and dogs barking. But we're here for the food and it is the authentic fabulous Greek food. Huge portions of reasonable prices. We started with the huge Hiroyuki Greek salad. We always get the flaming table side saganaki. The cheese was hot and delicious, but it needed warm pita bread. For our entree we shared an assorted plate with octopus, shrimp, olives, peppers & taramasalata & tzatziki. Our platter was fantastic. We devoured everything. We tried our friends pastitsio, the béchamel sauce was so creamy and fabulous, it was so fresh. It was fabulous.

We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Hellas and it was a hit with our entire family. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was lively, welcoming, and full of energy. The flaming cheese was such a fun experience and everyone yelling Opa made it unforgettable, especially for the kids. Every dish we tried was delicious. The Greek salad was fresh and perfectly dressed, the spanakopita was flaky and flavorful, the gyro was outstanding, and even the kids hamburger was a win. Dessert was an experience all on its own. The dessert cases were so fun to browse and everything we chose was amazing. The chocolate pasta was unique and delicious, the Superman ice cream made the kids so happy, and the Greek kadayif with walnuts was incredible. Helpful tip if you park behind Hellas they will validate your parking which makes visiting even easier. Try to arrive early so you can enjoy walking the Sponge Docks, learn about the area's history, and browse all the fun souvenir shops. It really adds to the overall experience. We can't wait to come back.

Hellas Restaurant is a Tarpon Springs must stop. The food is authentic Greek food and the decor gives Greece vibes. We were immediately seated even during the busy lunch crowd. I ordered a mojito mocktail, Hellas gyro with feta fries and a key lime tart from the bakery. Everything was delicious.

You can't visit Tarpon Springs and not visit Hellas. The food, regardless of the dish, is amazing!! My favorite is the Dolmades. It's a starter but I could stop there. They are now for their bakery as well, but I've only ever tried the baklava (Yum!!). Always friendly service. We learned this time, that if you park in their lot behind the restaurant, they will issue a voucher for free parking. The whole area is pay parking ($10/$20)

Always a solid 5 star review. This time I parked in the dedicated Hellas parking lot so I saved money on parking. It's a pretty big lot so it's totally worth eating here when at the sponge docs for the free parking alone. I came with my sister and we got the combination platter and the octopus. I learned the difference between the octopus plate and the octopus appetizer is the appetizer doesn't come with a side plate of rice, green beans and potatoes. For around $2 extra this is a good deal, but since the combination platter also comes with these things it was a bit duplicative in this case. You would think I'd get tired of just octopus, but it's so tender that I can eat the whole plate happily. Everything on the combination platter was delicious. It's a great variety of meat and carbs. I loved everything on it. I definitely wouldn't be able to finish it alone, but it was perfect amount eating it with my sister who runs marathons (so needs fuel.) This restaurant is large and beautiful. I do feel like I'm eating in Greece. There's an extensive dessert menu and a bakery attached so if you're a sweets person, save room for dessert. Service was attentive and I felt like everything was paced really well. This is my favorite restaurant at the sponge docks.

This place has always been a wonderful experience. Stopped by for lunch with my daughter and her family. I love the blue lights and Greek looking ambiance. We were seated immediately. Our server Mathew was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. We started out with the hot cheese because you just have to order the cheese. The portion size was small. If you have more two people, order more. The Greek salad was delicious. We also ordered the gyro and the grouper. The grouper was very good, served with green beans and rice. We stopped by the bakery for goodies to go. The baklava is the best! It's just perfect! I'll return when I'm in the area.

I genuinely cannot believe it's taken me this long to review this divine gem of fine dining in Tarpon Springs. Better yet, I can't believe I've had this review in drafts for the entirety of this Summer! I have been going to this restaurant for years and I will tell you now; Every time I've walked out, I've walked out thoroughly satisfied. The restaurant may appear to be whole in the wall, but when you walk in, you're introduced to a softly cool-lighted area that's clean, classy, and elegant with many cultural references to Greek culture, true to form. Service wise, they do not disappoint; they are polite, transparent, and they're very hard-working. Now food wise everything is alright, and their lamb shanks are to die for...But it's also very limited in supply, and other lamb products tend to pale in comparison to it, but aside from that? Everything's fantastic. This particular day we had the Skordalia, which was warm, zesty, and just downright flavorful. We also had decided to get the broiled octopus which was well cooked, had a nice combination of savory and sour, and the texture of the meat was just right. But the real winner was what I ordered; the Lamb Shank with Spaghetti. If there's one dish I can whole heartedly tell you will win you over aside from the iconic Saganaki (lit on fire with a nice "Opaaa!" included), it's this. The Lamb Shank here is tender, juicy, and it practically melts in your mouth. Coupled with the spaghetti and tomato sauce, as well as that lovely cheese they let you add, you'll never go wrong or hungry with this. If you ever come to Tarpon, make some time to go to Hellas. You can't go wrong with a restaurant that holds a name once used to describe Ancient Greece!

Lots of seating indoors and some outdoors as well. I choose the indoor seating since the outside seating is very close to the road. A very big menu, enough choices to satisfy everyone. We got an open face gyro platter with oven roasted potatoes, salad, and chicken soup. The food was delicious. I would certainly order our meals again. I have to tell you that the portions are huge! And that's a good thing because I like to eat a lot, you just need to be aware of the large portions if you're ordering appetizers etc with a meal. A couple at the table next to us had ordered a fried calamari appetizer and it looked so beautiful - lightly breaded and fried to a delicious golden color. I was honestly wishing I could try their calamari, LOL. But the portions are incredibly huge, the other table ended taking a lot offood home with them when they left. My husband then commented that they must only have one Greek beer, because he wasn't given any options; the menu didn't list any specific beers either. After our drinks arrived I noticed our server smoking a cigarette outside on the sidewalk right outside the restaurant and right next to other dining tables. This was unsettling, and I kind of didn't want them handling our food after that. However, our food arrived promptly and was very good. I was surprised to find potato salad in my Greek salad, but it worked! The gyros were delicious as well and the pita bread was great. All together it was not the best experience. The food was very good but it was the experience that will keep us away. I find it unacceptable to have employees smoking out front of the restaurant, ESPECIALLY when it is in the outdoor dinning area.
