They don't make bakeries like this anymore. About an hour north of Tampa is the small town of Tarpon Springs, AKA "Greek Town." A large population of Greek immigrants have called Tarpon Springs home for over 100 years. And throughout that time stands National Bakery, a family-owned and operated bakery for those same 100 years. The table you see in the video was made in 1924 and has been crafting classic Greek pastries ever since. We got some baklava to snack on in the bakery and some classic Greek bread and almond cookies for the road. If you're anywhere near Tarpon Springs, you have to check out National Bakery.

National Greek Bakery has the friendliest employees and most amazing service! Their desserts are tops ! Koulouri Rings, Kataifi, Baklava, Koulourakia cookies, & the most delicious breads ever ! A plus establishment !

It is a small bakery mostly bread but they do have some sweets. We really enjoyed the almond cookies so yummy and the Canoli was very good too but the coconut cake was not fresh.

Slightly off the main drag but go to it!!!! You will enjoy this more than the more commercialized bakery. Stacy was so welcoming and sweet! I would be here every day! You can see the room where the items are made every day with love!

Cash Only. 100 years of service! Best local, Greek Bakery located off Main. Parking on street. Tarpon Springs Strong after surviving the 2024 hurricane season, please support this incredible, resilient business. Always welcoming and smiling. We were given a surprise tour. it's a small town feel. open 7 days a week to provide fresh bread and bakery items for the local restaurants, Tarpon families and the public. Open 7 am to 5 pm. Get in early to choose from the full selection of Greek treats. Valerie and her family are awesome and gave us a heartfelt and informative tour of this amazing, 100 year old bakery. The original kneading table still in use has the same wooden dowels that were first hammered in by local artisans. The out of this world Tiramisu is our current favorite: so rich with a strong coffee aroma even before you take the first bite! Fresh biscotti, breads, and spice cookies that are delightful. Greek coffee for sale and other cooking ingredients.

If you are looking for that hidden gem of a bakery in Tarpon Springs, the National Bakery is it! The National Bakery is tucked away on Athens St., away from the chaos of Dodecanese Blvd. We were wandering around and came upon this great little mom & pop shop on our way out of the downtown area and are glad we did. We saw that The National Bakery is a local favorite; the seating area outside was bustling with local Greek gentlemen sharing conversation, baked goods, and coffee. We couldn't pass up the opportunity to see what the bakery had to offer, and with the smell of fresh-baked bread and desserts filling the air, we had no choice to go inside. We ordered two cannoli ($3-each) and a red velvet/Greek yogurt tower ($4). Although the selection here was not near as elaborate as the desserts we found at the Taste of Greece, their variety of goods was fresh and kept traditional to the Greek Heritage. Also, prices at the National Bakery are more reasonable than the Taste of Greece. We shared our desserts with friends, and everyone was impressed with the freshness of the desserts. I enjoyed the red velvet desert and felt that the delicate, airy, fluffiness of the cake and sweet creaminess of the yogurt paired nicely with a hot cup of coffee after dinner. If you are looking for delicious Greek bread and desserts without the fuss/muss of the crowds on Dodecanese Blvd. the National Bakery is an exceptional alternative. I highly recommend a visit to the National Bakery if you are visiting downtown Tarpon Springs.

Located in tarpon springs off a side street near the sponge docks, parking can be a challenge, so I'd recommend coming early in the morning. Lots of tasty looking treats. I ordered the tiramisu, which was 3/5, the cream was too sweet for me and the lady fingers were not very well soaked. I'm picky about my tiramisu though! There were many other options that looked great. They take cash only. The staff seemed rushed even though there weren't many customers.

This place is a gem of a find. Everything was DELICIOUS. Lady in the store was super nice. Make a point to stop here.

They were able to answer all of the questions I had about any of the Greek pastries I haven't heard of. It was very lively in there because it's also connected to a restaurant. They had a variety of pastries. I got the pistachio baklava and the tiramisu pasta. Both were very rich - I don't think I'm a big fan of the flaky bread but anyone who is will appreciate this bakery. One of the best Greek bakeries I've been to. Highly recommend.

The baklava & the other delicacies were good. But none of the ladies behind the counter asked if I was ready to order or even greeted me when i walked up to the counter, especially the two ladies folding the boxes on the counter. I had to get their attention so I can be served. I understand that the other ladies were busy fulfilling orders. Then we came back for lunch after our tour, the place was busy but were seated right away. The music in the background wasn't too loud. For a busy restaurant like that, we got our food in good time. Our server was very attentive & checked on us a couple times if we needed anything else. My pastitsio was good & the fam liked their lamb kebab.

Of course the saganaki and Octopus was the best. We also ordered gyros, pork souvlaki, and a fried cod fish sandwich. My order was the pork souvlaki! It was really good. The tzatiki sauce stood out as different than I have had at other places. Our service was impeccable. Our server was very cheerful. The owner was cheerfully inviting people in for lunch or dinner! He was really nice and funny too. We can't help but be happy that this restaurant is dog friendly, and nicely shaded! Big murals and fake brassy gold items. Our server was ok, seemed a little put off to be working, but no outright issues. The restaurant seemed to fill up more the longer we dined and kept the servers busier. Food was good, portion sizing being the pro here. Meat in my gyro was plentiful. Taste was good too. Other ordered flatbreads and again they filled a whole large plate. Cant say they were the best ingredients, but filled us up. Overall ok experience. Maybe for a more authentic meal try somewhere nearby.

We tried their bread at a restaurant nearby. When the restaurant owner told us the bakery is just…read moredown the street, naturally we decided to check it out. Maybe my image of a small town bakery is too idyllic: I image crusty loaves in baskets and the lovely aroma of fresh breads. Walking in, it's more like a grocery store with some shelves for gourmet food items: jam, pasta, etc., and a large counter for bread. I suppose I forgot that in a small town, they probably don't sell a lot of bread retail - not to mention people nowadays don't get their bread from their local bakery; Publix, Walmart or Panera are more convenient not to mention cheaper. The case, therefore, looks a bit sad with a few loaves forlornly sitting inside, wrapped in plastic bags. Now, I won't give a 3 stars for that. I love small businesses, so sometimes I generously give them 4 stars in hope of bringing it more business. Unfortunately, we can't get over the fact that the lady put down her cat and proceeded to get our cookies without washing her hand first. She did use bakery tissue so she didn't touch the food with her bare hands, but nonetheless, while old lady + cat is charming in most situations, it makes me lose my appetite when food is concerned. I can't help imagining cat fur on my cookies...
