I remember waking up each morning and having to leave the room to use the bathroom early morning to try to get in there before others do. The stall doors were so short that anyone walking in could see the commode. That being said somebody would always clog the toilet and you would hear the noise knowing the water or the river was going to come downstream and you'd have to put your legs up or you would get wet. Some people would walk right in barefoot like it was a normal walk in the park nothing to see here. And then the mixed showering setup in the partying was way overboard. Many people had the jail mentality where they'd be showering and you'd come in there it's your towel and soap and they'd say oh there's more than enough room under one shower head. So some of us would go to the gym and then shower down there and frequenting many YMCA's this one is probably the most stuck up group of people that I've experienced. You're scared down there working out like everybody else on older machines by the way what business is it of theirs to ask what type of car you driving or how big is your house? Now they obviously knew that we were from the men's wing due to the residential cards that we had and free gym privileges. But some of the people that are stuck up tried to make people feel like they shouldn't be there. And people need to remember people stay at the y short-term or long-term for many different reasons from all walks of life The Good The bad and The ugly. And there might be the good in the bad in the men's wing but the only ugliness I seen was the comments from the people downstairs. If you can avoid this place like the plague. If not make sure to keep your feet up when the river comes running.

Also, apparently having a small child is a handicap now as there's parking spaces only people with small children can use. Really?? They're also perpetually empty and going to waste. Working out is suppose to uplift your day and make you feel good. I can count on this YMCA to almost always do the opposite. I've never had such a frustrating experience going to any gym. As soon as I'm able, I'm going to get a new gym membership elsewhere. The only reason I have any membership at this point is the sauna/steam room. I'm not sure why Middlesex county has such a weak selection of good gyms throughout the area.

I've been going to the T.A.G. (Thighs Abs and Glutes) class along with the Zumba class and each one have left me sore yet wanting more. The faculty is a hidden gem attached to the offices and food court that many people that work downtown know about. Vertical rather than a traditional wide YMCA each level has something different. The bottom floor has the pool and though it isn't as big as the pools at the Wheeler location is serves its purpose if you want to swim some laps. You'll also find a min, body and spirit room for Yoga along with the state of the art locker rooms for men and women with showers, steam and sauna rooms. Next floor up is the gym equipment along with turf and a punch bag section. You'll find cycling there as well. Though it looks little cramp, you'll be able to stretch yourself however you want as you work on your fitness goals. The downside of the place is that it doesn't have a parking lot though they let you validate your parking for $2 for 2 hours rather than the garages standard fare. Since it is below ground there isn't much sun but sometimes it's nice to hide away from the hustle and bustle of Hartford. With a warm towel given to me at check in I'll be soaking that up with my sweat hitting the treadmill, weights and group classes before relaxing with a shower and sauna.

I restarted my membership solely off the fact that I need to stay active and this is the most accessible gym in Hartford, not because I want to spend $73. I would still say the priorities are a little questionable, but at least now there is some new equipment throughout the facility. A lot of the weight machines are newer, but some still seem to have issues when it comes to weights catching or some of the latches not properly closing. They removed a portion of the cardio equipment to make room for a indoor golf simulator... I've never seen anyone using it. I'm not sure who the target demographic was but I guess that's what all of the expensive membership fees were being saved up for. They recently repainted the pool as well.

They had a stretching room, and a main area with weights, a cybex circuit of equipment, and of course cardio equipment. They even had a Jacob's ladder! Scary! They have a indoor track that's a bit smaller than standard tracks, but it will work if you want to walk or jog indoors. And of course they have a pool which is always a plus! I brought my daughter there starting from 9 weeks old and it was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I feel so fortunate that I was able to bring her to such a warm, loving and happy environment. When we had to leave (for personal reasons,) we cried, my daughter cried and her teachers cried. The teachers here genuinely love and care for your kids. The director and the teachers truly love their job. Prior to Covid, I was able to come into the center and nurse my baby. I saw firsthand how well the infant teachers handled their kids. They were all held and attended to as if they were their own. We now have two kids in this center. Their Covid precautions are strict, but we feel safe and clean here. My toddler son is learning so much at the discovery preschool level, much more than I would have been able to expose him to. It truly is like a play based school before school. Only cons are high teacher turnover, but this is common in other daycares from what I hear.
