I went for Advanced Physical Therapy in Torrington following rotator cuff surgery. My first visit…read morethey assigned me a student who was condescending and arrogant and just kept leaving me to talk in the back and made me do exercises I was not ready to do with little instruction or monitoring me. Not wanting to be a guinea pig for a trainee as this was extremely serious to me (as it should have been to them), I refused to work with her again. I was then assigned to an "experienced" PT, Kevin Tucker (a whole 2 years worth I later learned). After maybe the first two months I was not getting any improvement in neither my range of motion nor pain. This PT went on vacation and I was assigned the head PT in that location twice. He said he believed I had adhesive capulitis (frozen shoulder). My ortho confirmed. I was forced to work with the other PT when he returned from vacation. I saw Kevin Tucker over 130 times!!!! He has since moved to one of their other locations. He made NO improvement in me AT ALL. I requested several times to switch therapists as he was not helping me, but was never allowed to do so. He did the SAME stretches on me and had me do the SAME exercises EVERY time! Clearly this was NOT working but no one there would listen. He went to a one weekend seminar on dry needling and kept trying to force me to let him poke around on me with needles. NO WAY! They seem to mostly just hire interns right out of college with no real knowledge and they were all more concerned with what cartoons or inappropriate music they would play. In the meantime I fell into a deep depression as this has completely devastated me and destroyed my life, my career, my body, my relationship. I told my ortho again whatever they were doing there was NOT WORKING! He agreed and I was told to stop going. After a third (and one final) surgical attempt 8 months later to "fix" me (three years later and still no better) I went to another EXPERIENCED physical therapist. Within one to two visits she simply told me to point my thumb up and I was able to move my arm (still a huge struggle) ON MY OWN. Not easy and I still have a long way to go. But the new PT did more for me in one visit than Advanced Physical Therapy did in over 130!!! They need to stop hiring college children and spend the money to pay for people with actual expertise. Who knows what damage was done to my shoulder in all that wasted time or how much quicker I could have recovered. Now my other rotator cuff has a full thickness tear due to carrying the load for my other side for THREE YEARS!! If they had someone experienced work with me maybe this would not have happened. They also line the beds up like we're cattle in stalls with no privacy in one big room. It can be embarrassing at times. I've lost my career, my relationship, my self esteem, my confidence. My depression and anxiety are worse than ever having dealt with this for so long (THREE YEARS) and still no end in site. I've been told it may be permanent now and my shoulder may never improve. I hate leaving my house and only go out for dr appts now. I'm completely distraught, exhausted, and disgusted. I would NOT recommend being treated at Advanced Physical Therapy in Torrington (he is at another location now though) until they hire actual experienced physical therapists. They are messing with people's lives and livelihood and need to be held accountable for the consequences of their poor handling of people's injuries!!!!!!!

Unbelievable care and experience for over two months of therapy for extensive back surgery. Mindy…read moreand her staff were amazing

Although we love her dearly, she was wreaking havoc in our house- the kids were scared of her, she was making a mess of the house and yard, and quite honestly we had zero control over her. She wouldn't stop barking at my husband, and I was covered in bruises from her jumping on me constantly. We were fed up and desperate, so we hired a trainer who came to our house- long story short, she charged us a lot of money, and we got nowhere. She was a positive reinforcement only trainer, and it basically just made our dog obsessed with performing for treats. In the absence of treats she did not follow any commands, and she'd break the command as soon as she was rewarded. I do think strictly positive reinforcement might work for some, but not all. We opted for a new solution, and I found Dogs by Doug online, with good reviews. Upon our consultation, I got the feeling he understood exactly what Bruna needed, and he recommended a four week board and train program. It's always a risk leaving your dog with a stranger for four weeks, it requires a lot of trust. I instantly felt like I could trust him, and you can tell he really cares for his client dogs and remembers all of them. He sacrifices a lot to constantly have dogs boarding in his home at overlapping times. Well, fast-forward four weeks, and Bruna is home. We instantly noticed a difference in her overall behavior. He told us he was going to teach her to relax, and that is literally what he did. She has been responsive to all of her commands, and at times when she breaks a command or does an undesired behavior, we now have the tools to deal with it. Walking her on a leash has become a great experience. She walks at our side at our pace, no longer dragging us down the sidewalk. I am beyond impressed with Doug's ability. You can tell he's a master of his craft, with lots of experience. He did his job with Bruna, and now it is our responsibility to keep up with the training. We are going to try our very best, and follow up later this summer! We HIGHLY recommend Doug. Our household is entirely different, at peace again and we got to keep our good girl (and our sanity). I am writing to recommend Doug, who recently trained our 10-month-old pitbull mix, Lucas. Before…read moretraining, Lucas was difficult to control and didn't follow commands, mainly because of his size relative to our three smaller dogs. After a month of training with Doug, Lucas is now trained on all commands and the e-collar. Since Lucas has been back home, he listens very well and has a much better relationship with our other dogs! Most importantly, it was clear that he loved Doug. Doug was an excellent trainer for Lucas and our family. He is extremely patient with both dogs and humans and is incredibly knowledgeable about all things dogs! He loves what he does, and it shows. I am so grateful to have met Doug and highly recommend him for any behavior or training issues your dog may have.
