BEFORE: infected root was causing pain up my jaw and into my head!
S W.

I'm writing this as I un-numb from the only 35 minute root canal by the Fabulous and Caring endodontist Dr. Sara Soumeeh. I can judge! This is not your parents' root canal, or even mine from 10 years ago, and Dr. Soumeeh and her team take full advantage of the newest and best practices and procedures!! I could tell I was in good hands at the outset. Before my visit, Nyneth patiently checked (and rechecked) my insurance and assured me I was eligible, which relieved me of that pressure. Then when I arrived, Isabel made me comfortable with her positive attitude and offered me a coffee from the coffee bar. Evelyn's seamless and confident assistance to Dr. Soumeeh helped calm my nerves. Dr. Soumeeh made sure this was a practically painless experience (and I'm Very Sensitive), giving extra numbing (which I thankfully did NOT feel). I REALLY APPRECIATED Dr. Soumeeh's attention to my comfort and stress (even loaning me a stress ball!), which made this a surprisingly POSITIVE EXPERIENCE!! I hope you don't need an endodontist, but if you do, TORRANCE ENDODONTIX and DR. SARA SOUMEEH should be your choice!

He also helped me calm down when I was getting anxious about the treatment. I had a great experience with the staff as well who tried very hard to help me find an in-network general dentist while I was undergoing my root canal. So sweet! Root canals are no joke and I'd always rather go to an endodontist for them, and I'm so glad I did.

Here's where it gets spicy! Sean comes in the room to go over my out off pocket cost. He rushes thru the treatment plan and quickly says your total cost is 979.00. When I asked him to break it down, he proceeded to go over it in a rush, as if he couldn't wait to get out of there. I didn't feel comfortable at all. I asked for further details on the following treatments that were on the plan: Code 9612 - Therapeutic Med Sean said this was medicine for the root canal used to rinse out the root canal. Code 7465 Destruction of Lesion(s) Sean said this was a laser treatment, and when I asked what it was for he said it's to make for a precise job! When I told him the out of pocket cost was too steep and that the charges didn't seem to align with my copays, he asked, well what's your budget, I will go back and talk to the Dr and to the office manager. He comes back and says, we can remove these treatments, and it will be 566.00! I said, these treatments seem pretty important and I don't want to skimp on my care, but that I would like to call my insurance (Delta Care) to go over the treatment and coverage and come back. The whole experience just felt off, so I called after I left and Marissa answered, I asked to speak to the office manager ONLY to be told that she's on maternity leave!! If that was the case then who did Sean go to the back to talk to!! I told Marissa that I had just left and I explained what took place with Sean. Marissa said that they have a stand in office manager but that they weren't available. I did not get the name of the stand in office manager because by this time I was livid. I asked Marissa to go over the treatment plan with me, and initially she said the therapeutic med was an injection in the tooth to flush out any bacteria. And the Destruction of lesion is an anti microbial rinse to help disinfect tooth to prevent infection from coming back; an enhanced cleaning process. (NOT a laser as previously advised) I asked again to go over the therapeutic med, and she put me on hold and came back with an apology, stating it's not an injection but rather a topical that the put on the tooth during the root canal (not sure what that is for, I was done at this point) She said I had the option to forfeit those treatments, and that they were preventative treatments! I said if the dr recommended these treatments how is it so simple to just remove them? And I was told, this is to help YOU with the cost. I did rescheduled my appointment with out those treatments. However I DID NOT return for treatment . I was able to find another Endodontist and went that route. They were straight forward and their treatment plan did not have these additional treatments. My out of pocket out the door was 455.00, much better than 979.00!

Of course, his treatments and explanations are very thorough. All assistants, receptionsits and accountants are very nice and friendly. I suspect 99% of us don't have any depth of knowledge about teeth, so having a doctor who makes an effort to explain, to walk you through X-rays and show before and after status, and one who includes follow-up calls and visits in the cost of your procedure is very refreshing. Top notch tools and gentle, caring techniques. You're gonna pay for that quality, but it's fair, and your teeth and health are worth it. I was referred by Dr Erin Kim at Rolling Hills Dental, and she and my usual dentist, Dr Jeff Goodman, are also both excellent.

My excellent dentist, Dr. Barry Kadowaki, was kind enough to get me in on Monday. His X-rays did not show a crack in the filling, but with the symptoms, he gave me a referral to Dr. Peter Endo for an endodontic consult. I was reluctant at first because I couldn't fathom the idea of undergoing a root canal so close to leaving on Saturday. However, the peace of mind of knowing the diagnosis and cause overrode the hesitance. His office staff was very accommodating and had me come in on Wednesday. His office played relaxing Hawaiian music which made me feel at home. My father was an amazing and well respected dentist, so I had very high standards. Dr. Endo surpassed all of this with his knowledge, patience, skill and compassion. He spent an incredible amount of time with me using a high powered operating microscope, doing numerous bite tests with different materials to simulate normal situations. Since I had developed an increased sensitivity to cold in the affected tooth, he used -70 degree dry ice for the final test. Cool, so very very cool! Dr. Endo then sat down with me, and patiently showed me the X-ray, photos and drew out what he thought was going on. He was honest and forthright saying he felt the nerve root was not seriously damaged enough to warrant a root canal. Peter went on to give me a treatment plan to get me through the stressful next couple weeks. Being a physician and surgeon myself, I was very appreciative of his attention to detail, bedside manner and integrity. When I described my terrific experience with my wife, she remembered that a number of years ago, she had a root canal with Dr. Endo. Terry remembered being so scared because of all the horror stories she had heard, that she was amazed by how skillful he was, and how well her procedure went with him with a smooth and rapid recovery. We can't say enough about the excellent superb care we have had with Dr. Peter Endo, and recommend him enthusiastically and without any reservation. It is very comforting to see so many other fellow Yelpers feel the same way about him.

With that said...(my father loves him, and he and nurce seemed to be professional and kind). And seems to me he's a great guy! Very personable and thorough regarding treatments. We arrived 10 minutes before appointment, waited to be checked in for over 15 minutes. Those of you that have elderly parents will benefit from this post. Waiting room very small and clean. Lots of Camaras everywhere. Very uncomfortable chairs. I figured I'd be waiting for my father at least 1.5 hours. (can't leave due to his age and health). As we sit here and wait (35 minutes) the doctor is literally talking to another patient just threw the glass door in full view. Mind you my Fater is now agitated beyond belief! And I'm trying to get comfortable in the worst chairs ever for a waiting room. It's already been an hour..... still haven't seen the receptionist / nurse, I believe this is a two-person office at best. My father was taken back after about 35 minutes. So, my take a way; Make sure you get 1 appointment of the day and bring a pillow for your back.
