Dave is a direct and a real genuine human in an undisguised mechanic body that will give your auto 'buddy' the right touch so that it's back on the road taking you from A to Z without having to worry, "Did they use the right oil, or was it Canola? Dang it! OMG, people without a vehicle at the moment do not know how lucky they are that the only thing they have to worry about is their presto card refills!!!" You call this place up, already booking some days is quite tedious as their shop is humbly set up, enough for only a few vehicles at a time and the work is tediously done without the acquisitive approach on giving quotes on excess work you don't need at the moment. Without an appointment he lifted my car to take a look at what was wrong and proceeded to show me, in detail (and plain english) what was wrong with my brakes, exhaust etc. I knew I needed brake and exhaust work, and all other mechanics I visited gave me a rough estimate without explaining how, why or what specific work was required. Dave was happy to have me watch as he inspected my car, and then gave me a very fair estimate. When I picked up my car the next day, the final bill was actually less than he estimated, plus he changed the air filter (something he noticed that needed to be done while he was working on the car) Definitely a positive experience with a trustworthy mechanic in Toronto. Not the closest most convenient location to me (I live downtown), but just north of Finch Subway station (either walk or bus). I'll definitely be seeing Dave again next time my car has any trouble, and will be recommending him to family and friends.

He said it may be the transmission and that he would charge $120 to assess it (see second image). His assessment was that he may need to reseal it and the cost is $2175 or if he needs to rebuild it then it will cost $3395! We felt something was not right so we took it a dealership and their mechanic said that we only needed an $8 cap to fix the issues; which it did. We went back to this shop and asked him for our assessment money and he said that he hadn't actually assessed it and that he had used another transmission shop and once he gets the money back from that shop he would refund us. We did not give him our consent to use another company. We have spent so much money with him, we feel swindled, and will no longer be using his services.

These guys have been doing it for years, and understood exactly why it happened, and described he error code, symptoms and conditions to me. Chris who runs the shop, is one of the smartest guys I've ever met when it comes to transmissions. He's a young guy who's been doing this since he was a kid with having a shop in the family. I know a lot about maintenance and cars and believe me, Chris knows his stuff. His prices are more than fair. And probably the best you'll find for a full CVT rebuild. I had to bring my original job back to him because the valve body needed replacing. He said no problem, hoisted it again, drained all the fluid, and swapped it out. This is a good shop and anyone who has CVT issues I recommend coming here before they inevitably blow up. At least the older Nissan CVTs which had a design flaw which mine had. Without getting into detail, it's one of the pullies that uses tiny circle bearings. The bearing design causes them to fail after a few years and thousands of kilometers. When Chris rebuilt it, they used the knew upgraded design which uses proper metal sleeves to reinforce the ball bearings. I've been back once already just to check everything out, and he did it for me no problem and no charge.

My family has been going to Hide Auto Centre since I can remember. His specialty is Japanese cars (honda and toyota), but Hide Auto Centre also fixes european and american cars. Hide is an extremely nice man and very trusting. He never "overcharges" for ghost fees or tries to upsell you to do fix something random with your car. One thing that I really appreciate is that he always goes over the entire bill with you. He also will explain to you exactly what happened with the car--sometimes bringing you the broken piece--so you know what he's fixing. When you first walk into his small store-front, keep in mind that his waiting area is not a nice frily waiting area of an overpriced dealership repair shop, filled with a cappucino maker and an endless supply of day-old donuts. Remeber that you're paying to have your car fixed, not to be entertained while you wait. The waiting area is small, with only a few chairs. There's coffee available and a small tv to entertain yourself. It's probably a good idea to bring a book to read if you're going to wait.
