I love noodles - I just love 'em! I drive passed Toro on the bus most days and I've been wanting to try it for ages, so I made an effort to head there for lunch yesterday.
Firstly, the venue itself is good. Nothing striking, nothing fancy, just a decent restaurant with a nice open window at the front where you can people watch.
I sat down and was handed a menu. I instantly noticed the I was the only white caucasian customer, which is generally (I find) a good sign of authenticity. The waiter came back a couple of minutes later to take my order. I wanted the Japanese Style Beef on Fried Ramen but asked if they could add some bean sprouts. I was told quite firmly 'no'. But I ordered it anyway because it came with vegetables. The dish was really tasty, if not a little too salty. But it was a soy sauce dish, so you have to expect it to be salty. I really enjoyed it!
I finished and within a couple of minutes my dish had been taken and I ordered the bill. Paid. Left. All done within about 20/25 minutes. I was on a lunch break so this was perfect for me.
I can't really fault Toro. There's no Wow factor to it, but it's good at what it does and i'd certainly go back. read more
