Today I got the brush fire and crossroads tacos and they were fantastic. Needed to get an extra corn tortilla to hold everything in. Oh and if you cant see the meat under all the toppings, assured its there and was excellent. I would say two tacos was enough, could've pushed for a third but honestly if I was going for a third I would get a burrito to go along with the two tacos to really push me over the limit. Excellent service and fast. The decor and seating could be a bit better but this is definitely a fast casual atmosphere. Prices are spot on for what you're getting and wont be disappointed.
I appreciate that the food is made fresh. It can be crowded during certain times, but staff are courteous and will provide order updates. There are machines for ordering inside, or you can order at the counter. There are plenty of tables inside as well as a bar you can wait at for your food. The place is a decent size, and there are tables outside. My tacos are always delicious - the Baja shrimp sauce is amazing!
I was really excited that Torchy's a place I love to visit when I go visit friends I Texas came to Maryland and right in MoCo. It did not disappoint and it was just as I remembered. I enjoyed a taco, margaritas and queso and chips. The food was great and the staff were really nice and took time to explain the menu. We even tried the taco of the month. Can't wait to return to try more items.
This place was suggested by a fellow Elite after an event, and I can hardly ever pass up a beloved location I've never heard or been to before. I was met by a kiosk as I approached the register area and was informed that after a certain time of day the kiosk is there to order from. It was ok since I was able to scroll through the selections and look at what was offered. If you are a traditional taco gal this isn't for you but if you like American style or tons of options added on top of your tacos then this may be right up your alley. There was so much signage about their 2 person meal that I decided to go with that so I could also have lunch the next day because why not? I love a good deal. I was able to choose from carne asada, barbacoa, or green chile pork tacos. I grabbed 5 carne asada and since I'm not a soft meat fan, I did want to give their barbacoa a try so ordered one of those which gave what I thought, soft pot roast. The Double Feature also came with sides of rice (cilantro) and beans and two drinks. I grabbed both of my cups because I knew I wanted different drinks and since I usually drink a lot, it was perfect for me to have some horchata and also another of whatever else. The horchata had a taste that didn't sit well with me. It wasn't spoiled but it also wasn't authentic or freshly made. It had an after taste and was very smooth, reminiscent of regular milk with minimal flavoring. I'm sure this allows them to have more control over quality instead of having it homemade and I understand that but was somewhat disappointed. It was a nice touch for them to have a suggestion of adding some cold brew along with your horchata but since I'm not a coffee person and it was late, I didn't try it. The rice which was made with cilantro, lacked flavor and I was caught off guard when I didn't taste any lime, garlic, or salt . . . . but ok. I guess I don't eat pinto beans on the regular enough to know that taste like baked beans without sugar and I wasn't expecting that either. Not their fault but just knowledge for me to know pintos aren't the choice for me when ordering beans. Or maybe it was just how they prepare them . . . . The carne from the carne asada tacos are not asada at all lol. No grill marks anywhere and the pieces were soft with some of them also being chewy or just gristle (sp). The barbacoa was very soft and not horrible but I'm not a fan and there was some flavor so it was ok. They have a bar with some specials as well and I can see this being a spot many frequent for that combination of tacos and drinks. Will I be back? I could see myself going back if in the area and convinced to hang out there, but it wouldn't be my suggestion.

But both had almost too much on the tortilla, which made it really messy to eat. Mexican street corn had great flavor, but the the rice & beans were pretty bland. Steak burrito my son had was good and had great flavor, tortilla was very fluffy and soft. You order at a counter and they bring it to your table. Staff was friendly. I'd give the place 3.5 stars if I could. A 3 isn't bad, it's average, and that's what I thought of this place. It just didn't quite hit the 4 star mark for me.

We sat at the back of the dining room so we could catch up, laugh loud and not disturb the other guests. Unfortunately a large party of 40-50 people came and sat down by us and kept eyeing our table waiting for us to leave. One of Torchy's staff came and apologized because they saw the groups stares and said that they knew a bigger group was coming but were told it was going to be about 20ppl.
After trying many samples at the different food festivals I finally visited the brick and mortar store. It was nice, not too noisy, with a lot of room, and it was clean. I got three tacos, and it was a lot more than I expected. Flavor was there and the colors made it a feast for my eyes as well as my belly. I was unable to finish all three tacos but I and happy to have tasted them all. I can say my favorite was the Steak Fajitas. I just liked the overall flavor profile. I can not wait to try the others. Overall the service was quick and efficient. It took a little time that time tells me it was made to order so I am not upset. Money well spent in my opinion. I hope you give them a try.
Salad at Torchy's Sunny Sunday In the mood for something different, I stopped at the taco place for what I thought was tacos but instead I got the Moon tower salad with shrimp, one of their salad bowl offering. You can request grilled or fried shrimp. I opted for a modified bowl, without cheese nor beans as my stomach is sensitive to both. It had ample shrimp, lettuce, and vegetables with a tasty dressing. It was very tasty and fresh tasting with a hint of mint. I loved it, The price was around $16, which is now an average price. I definitely want to return and try the other salads, to enjoy their tacos and drinks.
I stopped by this Torchy's Tacos to get a quick taco or two and an ice cold margarita to beat the hot weather. Overall, I thought the food and service at the bar were absolutely wonderful. For my dining pleasure, I went with the Trailer Park and the CrossRoads tacos. To be honest, I just randomly selected those two tacos with no rhyme or reason. However, I was quite pleased with leaving my taco selections to chance. The Trailer Park taco came with fried chicken, green chiles, pico de gallo, and mixed cheese. The Crossroads came with smoked beef brisket, onions, jalapeños, an avocado slice, cheese, and a tomatillo (I think) sauce. With the exception of removing the cheese, I would not have changed a single thing about the two tacos. To be honest, I did not read the full list of ingredients, but I'll know to request no cheese for my next visit(s). I thought the sizes of the tacos were pretty generous for the $5.50-6.25 price tag. Regarding the margarita, it had a perfect mix of booze, tart and sweet. Since I tend to drive through this area on a frequent basis, I look forward to trying more of Torchy's delicious tacos.
I needed to pick up a bread order from Great Harvest, and what a better way to spend a late lunch than Torchy's Tacos! I loved the small portion of guacamole. It's just the right size. Way too many chips, but that's not a complaint! I took most home as they have a self service counter with bowls , aluminum foil, and bags for your left overs. My Baja shrimp taco was perfectly filling with the accompanying guacamole. I ordered it without the jalapeños because last time I was here the peppers made me choke up a bit. Instead, they gave it to me without the pickled onions. Oh, well. It was still delicious. They don't skimp on the shrimp. There were five flavorful shrimp in my damn good taco! This summer when I'm off, I'll be by for happy hour when their tacos are $1.00 off.
I first went to Torchy's for a Yelp event and I knew I was going to bring my friends for happy hour soon and what better time than Cinco de Mayo to grab a couple of margaritas! Bright and vibrant decor, the vibes were right and many people had the same idea as me because the place was packed! The tacos are a good size and well stuffed! I tried the Trailer Park, Brushfire, and the Democrat tacos. The Democrat was my least favorite and felt a bit mushy and lacked texture, but the other two had really nice flavors and texture! Everyone in my group enjoyed their tacos and drinks. I had the Strawberry Margarita Swirl and it was refreshing. The guacamole was a bit disappointing though, needed some tomatoes and lime! The best part was actually the service! Although you pay first and seat yourself, the staff do bring the food to you and clear the tables. There were many staff, but our main "server" took my order at the register, delivered some of the food, asked if we wanted more chips - he was like a one man show and gave great energy! The downside of this concept is that we were too lazy to line up again to order another drink or leave a bigger tip since it was prepaid upfront. Didn't get his name, but shout out to the guy with the black glasses who was moving nonstop!!
It's the queso for me!! Damn good!! I hadn't heard of Torchy's until a recent Yelp event where we were treated to the award winning queso. Apparently Torchy's is very popular popular in Texas. I told a co-worker who loves Torchy's so much that he was willing to drive an hour to get here. He had a great time and couldn't thank me enough for letting him know it was here! A few days ago I was nearby and met a few others here. We sat at the bar and on a Tuesday it was busy but not overwhelming. Service was good. Thank you Bridget! I got a frozen passionfruit margarita - very good! I got the half size of the green chile queso with chips and a brushfire taco. Yummy! I'll be back again soon!
First time trying Torchy's Tacos and it was such a fun experience! It was super busy when I went, but the staff was really nice and even gave out mini margarita shots while everyone waited which I thought was very sweet. I got the fried avocado taco (with corn tortilla) and it was actually really good. It was flavorful and filling. The spicy queso was SOOO good and I highly recommend getting it. Also, I got the churros and it was delicious!! The chips were very salty, but still tasty overall. Would definitely come back to try more tacos!

I was so excited to learn about the Torchy's Tacos in Rockville. I've only ever enjoyed Torchy's while visiting family in Texas, so it was nice to know that I can get my Torchy's fix more often. When you enter the restaurant, you can either order at the kiosk or the register. The menu is extensive, but I doubt there isn't something on the menu you'd like. After placing your order, you sit at one of the dining tables in the large dining area, and a staff member brings your food out to you when it's ready. All of the staff I interacted with were friendly and helpful. I ordered a chicken fajita taco and a bacon egg and cheese taco - yes, they serve breakfast items all day - and shared some queso and chips. As expected, the tacos were delicious, fresh and flavorful. The queso is one of my favorite things on the menu. If you're in the area and want to try some unique tacos, definitely try out Torchy's! read more

There's plenty of seating and parking it's on the corner of the strip mall making it easy to find. The setting is definitely a more casual hangout spot you order upfront and they'll bring out your food to you. The staff was friendly and gave some suggestions, but the service is mostly you doing things. The food was good, nothing amazing but pretty good! Good portions of meat and interesting flavors that work together. The steak was tender enough and the chicken was good. The only thing I would suggest would be a heated up tortilla and meltier cheese on top. Overall most of them were pretty decent! 3.5/5 Chips and sampler was good! I do like the chips tasted freshly made and the guacamole and salsa were great! The queso was decent not my favorite, but it was a good addition to the trio. 4/5 Overall, this place is better than Taco Bamba and what I would compare it to with thier similar fusion flavors. Love torchys and glad we finally got to try the Rockville location. Their green chile queso is amazing and I love the tipsy chick and trailer park trashy tacos. Service was great and our food came out quickly. It's a nice space and convenient for parking as well. read more
I don't know if I came on a bad day and ordered the wrong things but all my tacos, except the Baja shrimp was SALTYYY. Also decided to give the steak fajita taco another try and still not good. The threesome (guac, queso and salsa dip) was off as well. The guac had too much lime flavor and so did the queso for some reason. The only good on was the spicy red salsa. read more

Came here with my husband and daughter on a Friday night, no wait. It feels a little overwhelming to make a quick decision at the counter. I should have taken more pics but we ordered some of the same items as last time, like the democrat and chicken fajita tacos. The democrats had a bit of inedible fat but overall tasted good. I tried the green chile pork and it was pretty good, husband had the hogfather (really good), he also had a special (holy diver I think) he said it was excellent. We signed up for the app/rewards ahead of time and got a free order of chips and queso (delicious). Our daughter ordered to beef tacos (from kids menu) and didn't love them but that's because I think she was expecting regular ground beef, they were steak and I personally thought they were very good. For reference, I'm a big eater, I ordered two corn tacos and a flour taco but since we had a full order of chips and queso, I took the chicken fajita taco to go because it was a lot. Also, the manager, Matt stopped by our table to ask how we were doing, which was nice. He even offered up more chips ... I guess he noticed we had devoured the first batch. It wasn't chilly this time and the place is cute enough for families, while having the little bar for those that prefer it. read more

When it comes to BBQ and Tacos, Texas reigns supreme. Through my many visits to Austin, I discovered Torchy's- a local chain that started with a food truck and is now expanding nationwide. I was thrilled to see they landed in the DMV (although I wish they were a bit closer to DC and NoVA.) I braved the drive on the beltway on a recent Sunday afternoon to see if it was as good as I remembered. It was busy, but I had plenty of seats among the tables or at the bar. My order came out quickly without any problems. For this meal, I went bi-partisan: Democrat: The combination of the barbacoa and avocado made for a rich, savory experience. Republican: I preferred the balance of this one more: the smoky beef brisket and chipotle sauce combined with the tang of the corn relish and crunch of crispy onions. The tacos are a good size, two was enough for my hungry appetite. The Hillbilly Queso was the highlight of the meal: it takes Torchy's green chile queso and adds in chorizo. It has the right amount of kick and spice that takes this cheese sauce to the next level. Overall I'm glad Torchy's is in the area and their food reminded me of all the SXSW trips I've taken over the years. I only wish they were a bit closer to where I live. Hopefully, the success of this location could lead to even further expansion into the area. read more
We had Torchy's for the first time in Austin a few years ago, so we were amazed that they decided on Rockville, MD as one of their newest locations! We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon around 1 pm, and the place was packed. We had a field day with the Damn Good Tacos (we ordered 5), and a side of queso, and rice and beans combo. For the 2 of us I thought it was a good amount. Trailer Park: Honestly my favorite of the 5 but kinda hesitant to say that because it was more like a fried chicken lettuce wrap than a taco you'd order at a Tex Mex joint. The fried chicken was SO MOIST I was a little surprised. Democrat: My next favorite. The beef was SO TENDER yet again and you really get a full mouthful of meat with every bite on this one. Republican/The Hogfather: These were okay, PERSONALLY just not a fan of barbecue sauce/sweet sauces in my tacos. Also didn't love the crispy onions, but that's just me. The Swinger (December special): Pork was cooked to perfection yet again, only comment was that the pieces of pineapple could've been a tad smaller. Wish I got it on a flour instead of the default corn. Hillbilly Queso and Rice and Beans combo: Lots of positive reviews about their queso - we enjoyed it but would've liked mine a TAD thicker. They sure give a LOT of chips with their queso. David liked the rice and beans a lot but I thought it was just average. Overall they do really such a good job on their meats, regardless of what you think about the toppings. Everything was incredibly tender and juicy. Took off 1 star because it took a while to get our food - the table next to us ordered right before us and after they were served at least a good 4-5 other parties got their food even the ones who came after. And by the time we got our food it cold. Would come back and try their burrito and/or bowl! read more

Friends from Texas told me all about this and one even lived above one at SMU. I finally was out in the area for lunch time and tried it out. I ordered three tacos that were very filling. One was a jerk chicken one whose spice and their staff warned me was very spicy. The ambiance is nice too, I sat at the bar even though I only had a diet soda to drink. I look forward to coming back with my wife to try more of their amazing tacos. read more

Torchy's is a cute taco hang out. You order at the counter, so staff interaction is minimal. I got two of the veggie tacos, and they were fine. They weren't exactly anything to write home about, but they had enough flavor to be pretty good. I also appreciate any place that has more than one vegetarian option. read more
The minute that signage went up outside, I was ready to go! I love Torchy's! Whenever I go to visit family in Houston, at least one trip to Torchy's is a must. I finally made it a few weeks ago, and liked the clean, bright space. The servers were everywhere - taking orders, bringing out food, cleaning up, and answering questions. I was sad that my favorite taco, the Tipsy Chick, was unavailable. The bacon bourbon marmalade is delicious! However, it gave me the opportunity to try something new - the Trailer Park. It was pretty damn good. But my dad got the Hogfather, which was even more exciting - dude, pork and more pork! I'm getting that next time. We also got the Baja shrimp, which is always excellent. Also, the queso is outstanding. Skip the guac and salsa (which are fine, btw) and just dive headfirst into the queso. The only complaint I'd have in these early days is that there was way too much cilantro garnish on everything. The queso had so much that it looked there was a salad on top. read more
Hey friends! I came here for my god brother's memorial lunch. This is a fast causal spot serving Mexican cuisine. I ordered the Chicken Grande Burrito($8) and a house margarita($9). The burrito was okay, nothing to rave about. The margarita was strong! The interior has many dine-in tables. Orders are placed at the counter and bar and brought to your table. Service was friendly. Although, they brought out my order incorrectly. It was fixed but they didn't let us keep the incorrect order. What's the point of taking it back if it's going in the trash? Def annoyed about that. Torchy's really does have some damn good tacos! The first taco I tried was the brushfire which is a Jamaican jerk chicken style taco with mangos and other toppings. Nice and spicy! The second taco I had was the crossroads taco which consisted of smoked beef brisket and toppings. So much flavor and the jalapeños kicks the flavor up a notch. The food came out in a timely manner. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very nice but he had to man the bar and walk in orders at the cash register which kept him running around. The bartender should be manning the bar and that's it. The place is clean and casual. You can order online or have a seat and enjoy your meal. Decent parking. read more

Probably 4 stars overall, but a boost because finding good tacos in DC can be hit and miss and for the nostalgia I get from having lived in Austin for 3 years and getting to relive that closer to home. Torchy's tacos is an Austin landmark. This outpost is very close to the feel of the originals. It's going quirky interior decorations and the same order at the counters and sit down to have baskets or trays of over-stuffed tacos delivered to you feel. The actual tacos aren't quite as good as I remember them being in Austin, but part of that is probably the overly-rosy, nostalgic memories I have of them in Austin. Still, as I said when I first came here: "fried avocado taco" is a phrase that gets better with every word. Actually, the fried avocado taco is my wife's favorite and other than the gimmick, I prefer other tacos. My favorite is the super-spice brush fire which comes with thinly sliced, grilled chicken and diablo (habanero) sauce. I also like the chicken fajita and crossroads, but not as much as the brush fire. The crossroads (smoked brisket) taco seemed to survive the move from Texas the least well, which I guess makes sense. My kids each got the fried chicken tacos (just a chicken tender and shredded cheese on a tortilla). My daughter ate all the cheese and my son ate all the chicken tenders. Neither of them ate any of the tortillas. I'm a bit embarrassed about that, but at least they were happy and ate something. They liked the kids menus with crayons and chips too. Get the queso. It's worth it with a dollop of guacamole and a strip of diablo sauce in it. read more
I lived in Austin, TX for 7 years and Torchy's is a staple in the city. I could not believe my luck that they opened a location in Rockville, MD. As soon as I opened the pitchfork handled doors to this business, I felt I was transported back to Austin. The only difference between this location and Austin is they actually have a fully vegan taco on the menu! I ordered a Shiner Bock beer, guac with no cheese, and 3 Fo Sho (vegan) tacos. I did not realize how much I missed Shiner Bock. I sipped on this beer while waiting for my food and truly felt like I was in Texas again. This restaurant was PACKED yet the line moved quickly, and the food also came out sooner than I expected. The guacamole and chips had the perfect ratio of chips to guacamole. I also loved how creamy and flavorful the guacamole was. It is the perfect representation of TexMex cuisine. Torchy's only has one vegan taco on their menu but honestly this taco is so good I don't need another option. It has every veggie I could have ever hoped or dreamed of in my taco. You get to have a sauce on the side with it as well as a lime wedge. That helped enhance the flavor and remind me how tacos should taste. Hands down, the best vegan tacos I have had since moving to Maryland. I am so thankful this location exists so I can once again enjoy TexMex. I do hope Torchy's improves their breakfast menu for vegans. If they had a tofu scramble to add to breakfast tacos I would visit much more often. As of now, I do look forward to being a regular customer at their dinner hour and rejoicing in the taste of Texas in Rockville. read more

These tacos are huge! One taco is like two or three regular tacos at other places. I really enjoyed the Republican taco, the crispy onions really made this taco and the beef brisket was well seasoned. Steak fajitas were also good, steak was very tender. Don't forget to order their chips and queso. I was quite impressed with them. Service is so friendly. I like how they bring the food to your table, so don't forget to leave a tip. Can't wait to try their other tacos and side dishes. read more

Amazing food, amazing service, classic Torchy's decor. I used to go to the Torchy's in Texas and while no food is like Texas food, Torchy's is a nice reminder of my time there. I'm really glad they opened a restaurant here. This was my second time since they opened and I can confidently say they don't disappoint. The first time I tried the democrat and the mr. Orange. I loved the mr. Orange more. This time around I tried the republican, the bushfire, Mr. Orange again, and their churros! Each item was AMAZINGG. The churros was amazing especially the dulce de leche dipping sauce it came it. 100/10 would recommend!!! You can order to-go, dine in at the bar, or sit down. They have daily drink specials and hh from 3-6 Monday - Friday. They also have monthly taco specials to check out. read more

Came in before the happy hour rush on a Margarita Friday. Ordered a lot to try the beef options and glad I did. Everything was great and seasoned well. I didn't need to ask for hot sauce. Normally, it's a thing I do at TexMex places such as Chipotle, Cal Tor, Qdoba, etc... I was helped from staff at the bar who was friendly, the rest of the staff is new as they had just opened and the manager on duty was helping them out with orders and organizing tables. The wait staff sort of gave my food a tour around the restaurant as they couldn't believe I ordered so much. Torchy's has a lot of hype and for good reasons. Orders were taking up space on the delivery cubby and there was a solid line starting to form for happy hour. Better vibes than their competition mentioned above. Brought a bunch of left overs home and it all tasted good. The family approved. I may order far delivery on Uber eats since the food kept well. Luke warm Torchy's was still really good. 5/5stars read more
