Pretty good, not the best I've had but also not the worst! I really liked that the tacos themselves weren't greasy, they were presented well, and the employees were very kind. I loved the surf n turf and birria the best, chorizo was my least favorite. My friends tried the smash burger and it was just a hamburger patty placed on top of the tortilla, not smashed into it and they felt like there was very little seasoning. Pass on that next time. The price is pretty steep, $5.50 per taco and you have to order yourself at a kiosk, a little strange in my opinion! But it's in an awesome area and felt very clean, so that's a bonus. Overall I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here but if I'm in the area and craving a taco, I wouldn't be mad about coming back! TIPS & TRICKS: * The red salsa is SPICY steer clear if that's not your MO! read more

Amazing. I got - 2 smash burger tacos Chorizo taco Rockfish taco Oldbay fries smash burger tacos cost $5.50 but the "combo" cost 12.95? (Don't let them trick you get 2 singles for $11). They were ok, I had to ask for onion Chorizo taco was amazing. Best I've ever had. Rockfish taco was good. Fresh and crispy. Old bay fries were amazing. Best fries I've had in like a year. Nice coating / light batter. Came with nice dip/burger sauce. Service was polite. They weren't hesitant to give me free onions upon request. And laughed and shook their heads when I asked them about the Smashburger taco Price. The ambience was great. Two huge TVs to watch wail you eat. And restaurant was clean. I will definitely be back. read more

I have to say this place was very MID. All the workers super friendly and greeted us as we walked in. After ordering, we went to find a table. Pretty much all the tables had either crumbs or salsa all over them. We opted to sit by the windows as it was the only clean area. The food - Both of our drinks were very much WATERED down. Not worth $5. Like my pineapple juice gave more water than anything. My girlfriend lemonade also tasted like water. - my girlfriend enjoyed her chicken tinga tacos - she said packed with flavor! - I really liked the surf and turf taco it was delicious in flavor - i would reorder this - smash burger was just okay - it's literally a patty with minimal lettuce and onions, with big pieces of pickles. I wouldn't get it again - guac and chips - guac had minimal flavor idk i like to taste more than just avocado like some lime or cilantro Overall, you probably wouldn't catch me here again. read more

I think this place is average! I think if you are craving tacos then it will get the job done but its kinda pricey for the size of the tacos. I ordered the carnitas and chorizo and both meats were quite dry. It tasted better once you dip it into the consomme. I enjoyed how the tortilla was cripsy. I think the birria grilled cheese sandwich was definitely better than the tacos but it felt a little too oily/greasy towards the end of the meal. read more

This is a pretty decent taco spot. I went in and ordered their birria taco combo, it came with three tacos, consume, and two salsas. The place was surprisingly empty, didn't get much service except when my order was called. The consume was piping hot while the tacos were a little cold, i still enjoyed them though. The ambiance was nice as well. read more

Great fast-casual spot! I got the rockfish taco and the shrimp taco -- both were really flavorful. I ended up liking the rockfish taco a bit more just because it had more toppings and felt a little more loaded. The staff was super friendly, and they had a great playlist going, a mix of rap and R&B that my friends and I really enjoyed. Overall, definitely worth a visit! read more

Oh yea this spot is fire!!!! The food is really good. I was heading to Regal Rockville theater to see Wicked with my friends and we decided to eat here first real quick. We decided to order our food online even though we were dining in. The service was great - we let them know what we ordered and our names and they brought our food to our table. I ordered the birria grilled cheese and I am still thinking about it. It was SO SO good. Right when we were leaving the chef and the guy at the register also checked in the check in if we enjoyed the food. The spot is cute and vibey. Perfect for late afternoon, evening bites after a long day in Rockville town center and the birria grilled cheese the best thing on the menu FOR ME. However I will 1000% be back next time I go to the movies to try other stuff on the menu! read more

Amazing place for tacos/ birria in the area. Got the birria pizza and honestly it was large enough to feed a family. It was so delicious me and my party of 3 almost finished it in one go. They do not skimp on the portions here The service is quick, friendly and the restaurant is in a great area with lots of things to do near by. Would recommend! read more

Went with the bae the other day, and this food was fire!!!! I'm still thinking about it. I got Birria tacos (usually stick with pastor but they were out) and I ate them in silence because they were THAT good. I'm looking forward to coming again and eating well. Def recommend. Ambience was great as there was music playing but it wasn't overwhelming and I was able to enjoy the space even while tired. Service was nice as we were greeted and we ordered through the kiosk which was quick and efficient. read more

Hey friends! I met my family here for dinner to catch up. We were in the mood for fast casual. Big Papi's is a fast causal spots offering traditional Hispanic dishes. We ordered Surf and Turf Tacos($18) and Birria Pizza($25). I enjoyed the Surf and Turf tacos, they were flavorful and the proteins were cooked perfectly. My cousin enjoyed the Birria Pizza. To me, the birria was overcooked and lacked that intense birria flavor. Customer service was amazing! We were greeted warmly and the cashier came over to joke with us while we dined in. There's plenty of tables available for dine in. There are a few TVs as well. No free parking available, paid garage or street parking. I'll definitely be back for those Surf and Turf Tacos. Hope you enjoy! read more

Recently got an order of 3 soy chorizo tacos from Big Papi's and I'm a little conflicted. First the flavor is great and would recommend for vegetarians and vegans to get it. I'm suprised that Big Papi's isn't pushing this protein more because it's something the other taco places in the area are offering. While the flavor is great, the portion size isn't and for 15$ it makes it tough to recommend. I dont want to compare it to other taco places in the area but with so many around, I have to. Other places, its a bit of a challenge to finish 3 tacos with the toppings and at Big Papi's I finished the 3 and felt like I could still eat more. So while the portion size was good, it didn't beat out other places. Lastly there were two sauces included but I wasn't sure what they're base was an if they were vegan or not. Either an explanation or note what the sauces are would be helpful for those that order this option. read more

An Exceptional Dining Experience at BIG PAPI- Wow, what a fantastic location! I absolutely fell in love by the incredible food, vibrant atmosphere, and amazing service. To begin, I ordered the 8oz guacamole with freshly made crispy tortilla chips. For my main course, I sampled from the single taco selection: the Birria, Smash Burger, Chorizo, and Carnitas tacos. Each taco was a masterpiece, featuring a crispy tortilla that appeared to be dipped in a savory sauce. The portions offered a perfect balance, packed with compact flavors. I MUST highlight the Loaded Fries with Steak--they arrived perfectly crispy and were generously topped with steak and a delicious secret sauce. Of course, I had to try the Flamin' Hot Elote Loco in a cup. Unlike many places where the corn lacks freshness, Big Papi's elote was unmistakably fresh and utterly delicious. For dessert, the hot, crispy churros were the perfect sweet finale. A special thank you to Jorge and Edward for their exceptional service. Their attentiveness and warmth truly elevated the experience. As a huge sauce enthusiast, I deeply appreciated the wide variety available. I LOVE IT WHEN I GO TO BIG PAPI, I ONLY LIKE IT WHEN MY TACOS COME REAL SAUCY. Thank you so much to the entire team for an excellent dining experience. I cannot wait to return! read more

The birria tacos are good. Crunchy shell, moist tender meat and hearty consomé broth. Sauces were still included. Restaurant is tad bit on the more expensive side. Wish they were cheaper. About $16 for three birria tacos with consomé. However my birria didn't come with the consomé at first, I had to ask for it which was weird... It was labeled in my order yet they didn't put it on my tray. So make sure to double check they don't forget it if you get this. Esquites was also a bit watery or on the blander side? Could be a tad better maybe. Aesthetic is good overall. Two self order kiosks. The loud pop reggaeton music was a vibe. I liked it. Might be back again to give the non birria tacos a try. read more

Best vegan tacos in Maryland. No competition. So thankful they opened up in Rockville so I can get this meal regularly. In Montgomery County there are many taco options but there are very few vegan options. At Big Papi's they have a vegan taco on the menu that is clearly labeled and needs no modifications to avoid animal products. Also, their vegan meat is made from tofu, tempeh, and lentils. It is so rare to find a business that crafts a plant-based protein in-house rather than using Impossible, Beyond Meat, or Gardein. The tortilla for the taco was so flavorful and a little crispy. The vegan protein had an amazing meaty texture. It was hearty and had some chew to it. The two salsas on the side added the right amount of heat. Each lime slide added the citrus this taco needed. And the cucumber slice on each taco was the best way to cool down your mouth after enjoying so much flavor. When it is your first visit you can join the Rewards program and get $5 off your first order. I highly recommend stopping in and taking advantage of that incentive. One taco order is all you need to get hooked! I am so excited to continue to build up points at Big Papi's Tacos. It would be cool if they could increase their vegan offerings. But this one meal is enough reason for me to stop by regularly. This business also is family friendly. They have plenty of highchairs and seating options for families. Looking forward to bringing my husband and daughter with me next time. read more

Let me start by saying that I cannot wait to try more menu items! I had 3 carne asada tacos and the nachos and everything was so good and fresh. The perfect flavors and when I finished I definitely wanted more. lol. Quick and friendly service with an easy ordering system. I like places like this so I don't get overwhelmed. The overall appearance of the place is cute and colorful with lots of neon lights. The music is a vibe and the bathrooms were clean. I enjoyed my visit and will be back. read more

New to the neighborhood! Nice vibe inside. Good music, but a little loud for conversation when I was there for lunch yesterday. Got five tacos, beans, rice, the consommé, the Esquite Loco and chips/guac. Everything was delicious. The chip bag was greasy (like 5-Guy's fries bag greasy), but other than that the chips were crisp, not greasy and tasty. The guac was smooth and the small (they have two sizes) portion was plenty for two of us to share. Each of the tacos was good, with my favorite being the carne asada. The weakest for me was the shrimp. The consommé wasn't necessary to enjoy any of the tacos, but I will say that the consommé did provide a little something - not spice, not salt, but a nice complement. The tacos also come with a green sauce that was spicy and a nice complement. I enjoyed the Esquite Loco, although my partner did not. I think there was too much cojita cheese or maybe mayo in it for them. The rice and beans also were good and, again, a decent portion for the price of the side. Service: its counter service and the order was filled promptly. I asked for black beans and got pinto beans by mistake. The pintos were good actually. I asked for a spoon and the worker apologized that they don't have spoons. Then I looked in my bag, and there was a spoon there. So, be careful and double check your order. I like the place very much and will be back. It looked like other diners were enjoying the food and the vibe. read more

On a dark and chilly Rockville evening, we found ourselves at Big Papi's getting some flavor. We started with the loaded chicken nachos, and there were more toppings (and chicken) than nachos, in a very good way - plenty of stuff to carry with each nacho. Then the tacos - crispy tortillas (I think they're fried in oil), with lots of flavorful ingredients. My favorite was the shrimp tacos. The rockfish tacos came in close second (the fish were fried, so the tortillas were not - nice balance). In general, plenty of meat with lots of bright and fresh fillings to balance out the oils in the fried tortillas. If it's taco Tuesday, get to Big Papi's for some really good tacos! Friendly folks in a fun atmosphere, you'll be glad you stopped in! read more

I did not enjoy my meal as much as my anticipation would allow. I went in and ordered chips and queso, and 3 tacos (chicken, birria and one steak). Because of where I live, I decided to eat my food while it was fresh. Well... The queso was great. However, my chips were super hard and stale. Every last one of them. I even tried shaking the bag up and pulling from the bottom in hopes that I would find fresher chips. I didn't. I ended up tossing the entire bag out. I was furious!!! I guess I needed to ask for the birria dip because my taco did not come with it. The chicken was seasoned well but something was off. The steak was ok. I was super disappointed. I should have known not to try it cause the place was completely empty at 7 pm except for the workers and the group of 3 patrons there. However, it had great reviews from what I saw. I didn't take pictures of anything bc I pretty much threw it all out. Maybe it was on off night but I definitely was excited until I tried to enjoy my chips. That may have been what set off the chain reaction of my experience. Pros: the staff were super nice and very personable, which I appreciated. The establishment was also very clean, which is a plus as well! read more

Went here after a hike with 2 friends. It was pretty good. Pros- It is a great vibe in here. They were playing good music that we enjoyed and had the game on!! I would recommend the Horchata & the Fish tacos most definitely!! Churros was the best thing we had. One of my friend ordered more to go. Good and fresh. The service was good as well. My friends liked their food. The only cons are my friends said their food was not really hot for it to just have come out. The cheese was melted but the meat was hot warm enough. And the amount of tajin in the elote was over powering. I was not expecting that much. Still good but noted for next time to get little or no tajin. We did get the chips and salsa and none of us like it. The chips were very hard close to stale and the salsa taste like pace picante sauce. A hard no for all of us. Overall decent. Will return to try more things. read more

i really wanted to like this place. i've been trying to find time to visit for the past few months, but my experience wasn't worth the wait unfortunately. two stars for the main star - surf & turf tacos, though only 2pcs of shrimp seemed a bit dishonoring to the price. the sauces were good, especially the orange one for a kick. the elote - awful. it's that chewy kind of corn with no flavor that easily gets stuck in your teeth, not the sweet corn. the toppings don't make it any better if the base isn't flavorful. the rice - poor. it was very upsetting that mexican rice didn't live up to the expectation in a mexican restaurant. horchata - good. could've used more mixture since the cup is rather larger. i have three stars because they did try to rectify the corn issue by offering me free churros. those were a good treat to end with. read more

I mean they put it in their name that the tacos were going to be good. I'm not sure why you are doubting, but when you get there let me know if you disagree. Since I was there before you I can tell you that you're going to love it. We got our food fast and we didn't have any complaints. I will be back next time I am in the area, I don't live close enough to come here regularly that's probably good for them because I think they would be tired of seeing me, plus I'd be trying to talk them into giving me some kind of a punch card for the frequency of my visits. read more

Greeted as soon as I came in! Very great atmosphere with Hispanic music. The inside is modern, with lots of seating. So happy this spot is in Town Square! My son and I stopped by for lunch on a Sunday and absolutely loved it. You order at a screen, which makes it super easy to customize everything. I got the chicken tinga tacos and two shrimp tacos, with added peppers and guacamole. My son had a quesadilla, and we shared a side of chips and salsa. I'm from California, so I have high standards when it comes to tacos and salsa, but this place delivered. The sliced cucumber on the tacos was unexpected but really good. Both the red salsa with the chips and the green salsa with the tacos were flavorful and actually had a kick! My son loved his quesadilla (it was huge, we took some home). Service was great! Staff was kind and food is amazing. Highly recommend good food and nice atmosphere.

We stopped by this new spot on a whim, and wow--what a find! We tried a mix of dishes--ramen, nachos, tacos, and a quesadilla--and everything was seriously good. The ramen was rich and comforting, with a flavorful broth and perfectly cooked noodles. The nachos were layered just right--crispy, cheesy, and topped with fresh I ingredients. The tacos were bursting with flavor (we'll definitely be back to try more varieties), and the quesadilla was golden, gooey, and just the right amount of indulgent. It's rare to find a place that nails such a variety of dishes across different cuisines, but they've done it. Great food, good vibes, and definitely worth a return visit.
