Easy to miss, tragic if you do. The real deal is inside.

Wish it was open more than it is, that's for sure. Cutsey name...I challenge you to get it right. Some seriously good BBQ. Our second time to visit and it's every bit as good as the first. We heard about 'em from a spot they did on the radio with a local talk show host. Really nice people who most definitely know how to cook the different meats. While it's easy to drive by the building without noticing, it's 1500 ft from Gollihar heading towards the freeway. Nearly across the street from Oil Town Express. It's take-out only, no sit-down. No problem as they get the product out quickly. They're open 'til sell out and that does happen, so best not plan your visits towards closing. Our first visit I got a three meat plate and wife ordered the Notorious B.I.P. potato. So we had the spud (something wife says the owner made a deal of on the radio) and I ordered brisket, sausage and pork ribs, potato salad and beans. Brisket was exceptionally tender, with a nice bark, sausage had decent snap and flavor, the rib meat simple fell off the bones. I wish I had taken a photo of the plate as the helpings were generous (Oh, wait, I DID!). The BBQ sauce was tangy with a touch of heat but not overwhelming. I WOULD say to not order three meats unless you can really put away a lot of beef. I did it for the sake of trying their widest offerings. And of course, I shared with my wife. She loved her potato but ordered her second one (today) without the jalepeños. I did the same...no peppers for me! I have to point out that the potato salad is currently my favorite from a BBQ joint or restaurant. It's not mustard-y at all. It's just delicious. Come early and be hungry. I just wish they were open more than Friday and Saturday. I think they'd kill it. If I had a suggestion to add, it would be that maybe to offer a sauce with less spice (heat) and perhaps back off the pepper on the beans. Might be something to draw in customers with slightly more timid taste buds.

Brisket ribs and sausage a must try!!!

First day of Corpus vacation. I was walking along the little touristy area just north of the USS…read moreLexington. I Yelp'ed on the iPhone; I first found a cajun restaurant that seemed well recommended (the others around it were not), but could not find the location of it. So Plan B, found Dot'z and the exterior looked cute like a 50's dinerish place on the beach. Ordering was a little tricky, it's up on the wall but you can combine things you see on the wall. Wait staff was alright, not overly eager to serve, but not rude or disrespectful. You order and it takes maybe 5-10 mins to get a meal out. The ice cream also looked good, but did not sample any on this go around. I went with the chicken sandwich to try and stay a little healthy in this haven of beach food. Came very plain jane. I don't recall if it had mushrooms on it or not, but I distinctly remember thinking I paid for this?!? It had the appearance of fast food burger joint, not trendy little place on the beach. They have small inside seating but if a few folks are there, they have a covered patio area that is a good break from the sun. No fans or ventialtion that I recall outside. They also have a nice playground right outside if you need to occupy the kids in a safe place while you eat. Overall, I wanted to like the charm of the place, but could just not get into it. Thus, 3 stars.

We were able to sit outside on their patio with our dogs and enjoy a good hot dog. The food experience isn't something to get excited about, but we were really happy they were accommodating to us since we brought our pets. The atmosphere is fun and the hot dogs are good. Great place to come if you have a large family!

I love this place. It's probably my son's favorite restaurant in all of Corpus. He's the third…read moregeneration in my family to love the burgers here. My parents used to take me to the original location back in the 80s, and it was always a great experience. Back then you stood in line, ordered at the counter, and had more of a self-service experience. I think I still prefer that style over the newer sit-down service, but that may just be nostalgia talking. My son and I stopped in on a late Saturday afternoon while we were out around town digging through vinyl shops. He immediately requested Wallbanger's. Our waitress, Fantasia, was great and pointed out they had a $5 half-order appetizer special during happy hour. We started with mozzarella sticks and chipotle BBQ boneless wings. The mozzarella sticks do seem a little different from what I remember at the original spot, but these were still fresh, hot, gooey, and really good. The marinara they serve with them is great. The boneless wings were solid too, and their chipotle BBQ sauce is one of my favorites. My son ordered the crispy chicken sandwich with that same chipotle BBQ sauce. The sandwich was huge and he ended up taking half of it home to finish later. I went with the Uncle Sam burger, which is a classic burger setup with bacon added. It was very good. Their sidewinder fries are always on point. One thing that deserves special attention here is the bun. They make their buns in house and they're excellent. Fresh, soft, and full of flavor. It's not just something holding the burger together. The bun is part of what makes the whole burger experience work. This place has been part of my family's routine for decades now. I hope it sticks around long enough for a fourth generation of my family to enjoy it.

Clearly a significant investment has been made to make over the old Montana Mike's building. The charm of the original location is gone. What was a very fun visit...order at the register, get your fixings and go sit...refill your own drinks...now a conventional sit to be served by waitstaff in a sports bar. Wife ordered a chicken fried steak, I ordered the cheesy burger. My burger was quite good with fixings delivered on the metal tray. The CF steak however was a major disappointment. Looks huge...but it's very thin and covered in WAY too much breading. The mixed veggies were covered in grease and the mashed potatoes tasted and had the texture of instant. So, food was good and not good...now there's a waitperson to tip where there wasn't before...a lot of staff where there wasn't before. It's a choice ownership made when the move took place. Sad to see the changes. We already had a number of sports bars. Miss the simpler approach.
