Property Name: Whale Wind I'm very upset with our stay, not only did we arrive to a dirty house, with no clean linens or anything. We called multiple times with no answer, to ask what happened, when finally someone answered and we were told that the maids were just running behind and would be there in 30 mins... 4:30 rolled around and nothing, at 5 pm we called back they apologized again, and repeated the same thing... We called again at 6, and were told that the maids went to the wrong house but that they would be there soon and would take care of the linens and everything... At 6:45 two ladies showed up and said that this house wasn't on their schedule, the house was so gross they had to call in three more ladies to get it done for us. We had to move our dinner plans but almost a hour and a half because they were still cleaning until almost 8. Oh and the best part is the linen service was seperate, NO ONE SHOWED UP. We had to wash the left over towels and sheets in the house, I called left voicemails, and called again and again, and not a one person called me back. We spent a generous amount of money to stay in a house where no one cared about our experience, and frankly its disturbing. The house had roaches, and you couldn't run more than one water source at a time. If someone was washing dishes you better forget about your shower. I've given the management company over a week and a half to get back to me prior to reviewing this. I'm disgusted. People spend their life savings to have vacations such as what we had, and it seems like Topsail Realty doesn't care. I was told our stay would be brought up in their Managers meeting on July 3rd, and since then I've heard nothing. I've called with no calls back, they simply don't care.

Company also goes by Carolina Retreats. I arrived at rental property in Surf City which was a beautiful home from the pictures on the rental website. Pulling up to the home noticed a for sale sign in the yard , no big deal. Upon entering home the smell of dog was overwhelming. I rented a pet home because I have a small dog and she came along. I noticed some dead bugs, spiders on floor and thought okay no big deal.Going upstairs the base boards were dirty as well as window seals. The walls are pretty marked up from what I'm assuming is past tenants. I open the refrigerator to put groceries in and the refrigerator is dirty. Now this home was cleaned prior to our arrival. I immediately reached out via phone and text to let management know my issues. I received a text the next morning no phone call to say they could send a cleaner to clean the home. Umm a little late for that. If the home were cleaned these things could've been addressed prior to our arrival. When you pay so much to stay in a nice home you definitely should get better! Hell the kitchen didn't even have a trash can. I understand this is on the homeowner but don't advertise Pics that don't show current condition. Pics provided.. 414 W Wilmington Ave Surf City was the home Edgewater Retreat .

I'm very disappointed as a new client and licensed Realtor renting with Topsail Realty by Carolina Retreats. I booked "Lancaster Cottage" for my family. Although I didn't receive an email or phone call, I immediately received a confirmation code along with pending charge on my credit card. I called approximately 30 times to get through to speak with an agent. I received an email prompting to sign the e-doc rental agreement. I signed the rental agreement and received an email claiming my reservation was cancelled. I finally was able to speak to the agent again that the house is not available for the week that I was able to successfully reserve online via their website with a pending credit card charge and received the rental agreement for. This is poor customer service and bad business. I would not recommend.

Dresser Drawer stuffed with random nails and outlets etc

Update: spoke with Danny and he updated me on the issue. The employee we spoke with quit unexpectedly this week and this caused a major disconnect. We were the first family to rent this home as it's new so it makes complete sense the issues we encountered. The home was gorgeous and would rent again. House (the beachcomber) in topsail was advertised as newly renovated, yet several things left in poor disrepair. We arrived to the ice maker being broken as well as several dirty dishes put back in the cupboards we had to rewash ourselves. After paying a hefty cleaning fee I assumed the home would be actually cleaned. The cleaning company left a random sack strewn across the dining room table like it was a trash bag... There was NO toilet paper or hand soap provided despite staging it would be in rental agreement. Had to go to the store and purchase these items. We noticed it was very hot downstairs and our 2yo and 11 month old baby had trouble sleeping because of this... then someone from this rental company randomly calls to notify us an AC repairs man will be coming onto the property 3 DAYS into our trip to "do routine maintenance." When I directly asked if AC wasn't working and listed my concerns of recent indoor temp during relatively hot and humid days she denied this. The AC repair guy gets there and admits that the AC downstairs wasn't working properly. The agent assured me she would get back to me that day... 2 days later and nothing. Also, when we arrived random drawers were full of nails, light panels, etc and other unsafe items for small children. As if they just shoved random items in drawers and didn't clean up properly for a 2500$ a week rental! Also, the sliding screen doors blew off in the wind over night downstairs and one on main floor was so stiff it barely opened at times we had to lubricate it ourselves. It's a sad sign when we had to do maintenance on the rents home ourselves. Very poorly maintained which is sad as the house would be lovely otherwise and right on the beach! It's been so frustrating we are cutting our trip short and leaving on Thursday instead of Sunday. I am STILL waiting for a call back and expect some sort of discount on our trip cost as this was unacceptable.

We arrived on Saturday a quarter before check-in and parked at a public beach access near the rental property to take a walk up the beach to stretch our legs and wait. Walking in front on the property we noticed that the roof was being fixed on the entire property. We had no idea that the rental had received any damage from the recent storm, so we called Island Real Estate to check in with them and to see if this was going to be an issue with our stay. We were told that the construction crew should be about finished and that it wouldn't affect our stay. Shortly after, we received our confirmation to check in at our place. Not only did we not have a place to park, as the construction crew had parked a large dumpster and truck in our designated parking, but we also found our front deck to be completely covered in piles of sand, the trash cans still full of trash, and the construction crew still working on the roof. We again called the rental office to ask for these issues to be taken care of and they said they would have to call the owner. We never heard back from anyone until almost 6:00 pm. (3 hours after checking in) when the owner of the property showed up to clean off the porch. The porch was cleaned off, but we were left with the trash canisters full of trash and when the roofing company did leave for the day, they left their large dumpster and truck in our designated parking under the house. We called the rental office on Sunday and sent an e-mail asking if the roofing company could move the dumpster and truck so we could easily unload our belongings, as I was 30 weeks pregnant during our stay, we did not hear back from anyone until we again had to call on Monday when the roofing company showed back up and continued to work from 9:00 am till 8:00 pm. That day. The construction crew was very loud and it was impossible for us to put our toddler down for a nap. While replacing the roofing the workers threw their trash, shingles, nails, and swept sand and debris from the roof onto our deck/beach access all day. We were unable to safely access to the beach for that day. When they continued to work past 6:00 pm, we found the noise to be so unbearable we had to leave the property to find a quiet place for dinner. Upon returning at 8:00 pm, we found the roofing company still working. At this point, our toddler was beyond ready for bed, so we asked the roofing company to leave immediately and again called Island Real Estate. At this time, we greatly expressed how upset we had been with our stay and how inconvenienced we had been. We asked that the deck/beach access be cleaned up immediately, as it was riddled with nails from the roofing company as was the carport, which they finally removed their dumpster and truck from. We were unable to safely use the parking or the beach access due to the number of nails left behind. We also asked that we be compensated for the many inconveniences we had had since arriving for our vacation. By noon on Tuesday we had not heard back from anyone about the property being cleaned up so we could safely use the driveway and deck. Again, we called the real estate office and were told that they would immediately contact the owners. An hour later, we had not received word from anyone, so we called back. This continued every day of our trip. Eventually, my husband had to spend over an hour sweeping the piles of debris on our deck and picking up nails on the porches and access, so we could safely use them. The real estate office NEVER once reached out to us to take care of any of these issues. Every day, we had to first contact them for them to initiate anything being done. The owner never contacted us, nor cleaned up the rental property during our stay. At this point, we have checked out and no one has reached out to apologize or to offer any compensation for our terrible experience at this rental.

They say they will reimburse for buying a DVD player since the cottage did not have one. Lie number…read moreone. Don't rent near or at "clydes dream" . You will only enjoy noise and no privacy with a local living beside that cottage. Enjoy lawn mower going in your yard daily, when grass does not need cutting. If July 4th week, enjoy big tent put beside cottage with lots of noise and cars coming and going. Then when u check out a day early , expect a call when u r back home asking u to vacate the cottage. Never will rent from then again and will make sure to post this on other sites.

I am writing this review to share my experience with Landmark Vacation Rentals and Alana Malechuk,…read morewhich has been extremely disappointing. On Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at 9:52 PM, I reserved a vacation rental through Landmark Vacations LLC for the dates August 29, 2026 - September 5, 2026. My credit card was processed the following morning on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 11:17 AM, for a total of $7,067.44. Unfortunately, the dates did not work for my family. Within 19 hours of booking, on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at 5:04 PM, I sent a text message, email, and placed a phone call to cancel the reservation. We had not signed a contract with Landmark Vacation Rentals and canceled well within 24 hours of making the reservation. Despite this, $576.18 was withheld for "service charges." Alana Malechuk refused to refund this amount and stated in an email: "The fee is not retained by Landmark, but rather paid out to a third party vendor. For that reason, we are unable to refund the reservation fee." To better understand the charge, I respectfully requested: The name of the third-party vendor who received the fee, and An itemized receipt or accounting showing how the fee was distributed. I also asked that the company reconsider the charge given the timing of the cancellation and the lack of any actual service provided. Ms. Malechuk responded: "We will not be providing itemized documentation of these charges, as they are internal business costs disclosed and accepted under the terms of your booking. We consider this matter closed and will not be issuing a refund. Please refrain from further contact regarding this issue." I find it concerning that a significant fee was kept after a same-day cancellation, without a signed contract, and without any transparency regarding where the money went. Refusing to provide even basic documentation for a disputed charge does not inspire trust. I am sharing this experience so future customers are fully aware of how cancellations and "service charges" are handled by Landmark Vacation Rentals.

Maintain your properties! Hire a better cleaning crew…read more The beach was great ! The house would be if it were taken care of. Lights that don't work. Moldy and dirty bathrooms . (There was actually a small animal toenail in one of the tubs! You can see in the pics). Towel bars keep falling off the wall and towels hitting the floor. Floors not vacuumed and washed. Just yuk. Such a shame.
